Hi Catxx and welcome to the Horse Breeds task force! Thanks for your work on the horse breed articles. We definitely need those infoboxes put on all the articles that don't have them and I for one appreciate your work. A couple of things you may want to know about, however. One ongoing thing, constantly debated (though not for the last year or so), is the issue of wikipedia capitalization conventions versus proper name conventions. Most of the pony breeds we deliberately chose to capitalize as "XYZ pony" instead of "XYZ Pony" because wikipedia won't always find the article if a user forgets the capitalization (and it's a pain to create redirects for a zillion articles.) Anyway, if you don't mind, it may be wise NOT to change the capitalization on these unless there is a really special reason to. An example of a special reason was American Quarter Horse when that is the full breed name (No one calls them "Quarters!" LOL!) there was actually a minor edit war over that one a couple years ago! But generally, it's better NOT to capitalize the second word, but if you think there's a good reason to, feel free to take it either to the talk page of the article or to wikiproject equine (WP:EQUINE) Basically, I am of mixed feelings on the topic personally, and the article naming is inconsistent (we have about 350-400 breed articles here) so it's not a moral issue to me, but you may want to seek some consensus before changing 100 articles that someone else will want to revert. Montanabw(talk) 23:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Catxx. Yeah, I know about the capitalization thing. As long as the redirects work if someone just types in the name without capitals. The software is fussy. I would ask that you do be aware of two things: 1) I originally put that template into all the horse breed articles. Then, 2) just a few months ago, we had a fairly substantial edit war with an editor who unilaterally went in and REMOVED the equine template from all the breed articles (which was a side effect of a rather nasty edit war over templates in general). Now that you are putting them all back, don't be surprised if this other editor shows up and expresses outrage (I personally wanted to keep the template there, so I am OK with your work here, but heads up that it may reawaken another round of this...other than the two main combatants, the other equine editors have opinions, but not strongly held ones).
The other thing is if you could leave clearer edit summaries so I know when you have just added the template and/or infobox and when you have made more substantive edits or added photos...as it is, I have to open and check all articles you have edited to see what's happened. Most of it is really good, but a couple of minor things had to be tweaked (the photo in Lipizzan, the caption at Chincoteague Pony, etc...), you are doing such a great job that I haven't had to do much, but a good edit summary sure helps. I have tried to leave edit summaries when I did tweak something of yours, hope they are clear. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me on my talk page or leave a message at WikiProject Equine or at the talk page of a particular article. There are about 3 or 4 real active editors on the horse articles and we would all be glad to assist. Also be aware that there are a couple of articles that are real "fragile" in that they either reflect a delicately negotiated edit war truce, or are subject to some ongoing spats and too dramatic an edit could cause an upset, so please don't fret if we tweak some of what you do. Fortunately the biggest spat right now is in the horse racing articles over whether Australia or New Zealand claims certain famous horses, and I, luckily, am not involved in that one! LOL! Anyway, just another thanks for all the cleanup you are doing and it is MUCH appreciated! Montanabw(talk) 02:16, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You don't give a poop? Does that mean we can give you sh**? (grin). Just PLEASE be here for us the next time someone goes back into all 350+ breed articles and wants the template out, OK? Montanabw(talk) 23:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again and stuff

[edit]

Just a quick thanks for all the much-needed work you are doing on the horse articles with the infoboxes and photos. It's a tremendous effort and much appreciated. An FYI, don't put a section at the top of the lead. Not sure what the deal is, probably has something to do with the sites that mirror to wiki and to search engine stuff, but the wikigods don't like the TOC to be first, they want an intro, THEN the first heading. It kind of makes sense, I think, but also one of those things that others care about greatly so best to just go along with it. You only did an initial header a couple times, so absolutely no big deal. (and usually indicative of a need for a stronger lead, but that's a different issue altogether) Also, if you put in a photo but are at a loss for a caption, leave a note in the edit summary to alert others that we need to come up with one. It is a delight that you are able to find so many images, also. Thanks again! Montanabw(talk) 04:00, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm groovy with it in collapsed state. Should you wonder why I act so dicey, see here. I lost that round, when the one person behind that spat went in and unilaterally removed all the templates (that I had originally put in). I'm sure she will be back, eventually. In a recent edit to the page Domestic rabbit, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. me_and 20:06, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sket One, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 19:05, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Sket One, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion notice, which will allow you to make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Kinu t/c 18:20, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

The page Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appeared to be a direct copy from https://edch.org.uk/, https://m.facebook.com/pg/EdinDogCatHome/about/, and https://edch.org.uk/about/our-vision-and-mission/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion ReviewDiannaa (talk) 14:43, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:01, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
