The article List of tourist attractions in China has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Policies violated by this page:

WP:NLIST Not all of the entries discussed as a set by independent reliable sources.

WP:NOTDIRECTORY "Simple listings without contextual information showing encyclopedic merit."

WP:NOTGUIDE Wikipedia is not a travel guide. We have Wikitravel for that, and many of these pages could be recreated (or already are) there.

The core content policies are: 1) neutral point of view, 2) no original research and 3) verifiability. This page violages policies 2 and 3.

WP:VERIFY What are the criteria to meet to be in the list? This page has vague or no criteria. By definition, then, there is no way to verify the inclusion or exclusion of any particular site in the list.

WP:NOR Original research "includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not stated by the sources. To demonstrate that you are not adding original research, you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented." Who says that each of the items in the list are tourist attractions? Given the lack of inclusion criteria, that's understandable, as there is no need to justify being in a list that doesn't have standards for inclusion. However, that also points to original research as being the source for inclusion.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 02:34, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why moved the page?[edit]

@Chongkian sire, I would like to ask you the reason, that why have you moved the more appealing and condensed title, Republic of Taiwan, Holy See to it's long form, "Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Holy See. please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (government and legislation). Please, don't make it a stand out article from others. follow the standard, that is being used in naming the diplomatic missions. Please, refrain from using the long, official, governmental names (Please do not include the official names of the country, as the rest diplomatic missions never use them, anyways, and aren't used here as well.)Utkarsh555 17:21, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was just reverting the article name to the original Embassy of the Republic of China to the Holy See which that article name was named as such since 12 March 2016‎ and everyone agreed to that for the past 6 years, before you moved it to the new name on 23 February 2022 without any consensus in your edit summary‎. When you wish to move an article, please have a consensus first and invite people from WikiProject Taiwan to have a discussion on that. You didn't even write in your edit summary (on any agreed consensus regarding the name) when you moved the article. You are also not even the member of WikiProject Taiwan, the page where all of these kind of discussion have been taking place. Based on the WP:NCGAL, the very first point says 'Use official names in article titles', in which that Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Holy See is exactly written in their official English-language website of the embassy. Based on MOS:NC-CN, the term People's Republic of China is used when discussing about politics or diplomatic relations, thus the same applied to the Republic of China. For Taiwan case, due to their political nature, their representative office's name is really unique with case by case basis. For countries which recognize Republic of China as the sole government of China, the term Embassy of the Republic of China is used. While those countries who recognize People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of China, they will use Taipei Representative Office or even Taiwan Representative Office (for Lithuania and Somaliland) and their variant. Each of this has their own reason, and thus can't be standardize for every Taiwan's embassy or representative office to be just Taiwan Embassy of xxx. Over time, these naming might change due to political change across the Taiwan Strait, thus exact official naming is really desired to represent the current situation of Taiwan/ROC's diplomatic relations. Chongkian (talk) 00:17, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chongkian Ok, but then why don't every country is made to use it's official name? Utkarsh555 09:46, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The page is translated done and edited. Since the article had a major restructuring, you may make a rating. --Beta LohmanOffice box 19:28, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. The article looks good enough already to be rated C-class article per WP:CCLASS. For some improvement, you can also add the short description per WP:SHORTDES and also its official website inside infobox and external link section if any per WP:ELOFFICIAL. You might also want to translate the list of reference titles listed there into English (for the non-English title) per Template:Cite web. Also to post the photo of the organization headquarters building inside infobox if any. And you might want to write down the name of the incumbent Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the organization inside the infobox. :) Chongkian (talk) 05:08, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, I made 3 main edits today. I archived all the links in the article. Then, I translated the web titles and also marked in Khaki color to improve readability. Also, I added the director's name (I may request to recover the deleted page) in the infobox. As for the photo, I will try look into if any place has it. I also wonder why do you suggest to translate the titles. Those sites are all in Chinese. Would it increase the rating by the way? I don't think the reader would click the links in Chinese. It's a fully translation, though. --Beta LohmanOffice box 02:19, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that one (to translate the non-English title), I think that is part of the referencing rule in Wikipedia. Non-English sources is acceptable, but when the title is not in English, then we only need to translate the title only, by adding the 'language=' and 'trans-title=' as part of the citation with the full coding/syntax written inside Template:Cite web page. Usually that will help the English-speaking readers inside Wikipedia. Same like when you write in Chinese Wikipedia, then the English sources you need to translate the title from English to Chinese. Some of the English-speaking readers in English Wikipedia might still click and read the Chinese sources (by the help of Google Translate). A lot of people do that actually based on my experience. Of course if the information is available in English website, then we shall prioritize that one first over the Chinese website source per WP:NONENGEL. Like this Tainan Mosque article that I wrote, the reference number 6 is a Chinese source, in which I translate the title to English in the 'reflist' part and add the language of the news source (台南清真寺隱身社區透天厝 平日大門深鎖 [The Hidden Community of Tainan Mosque, Locked on Weekdays] (in Chinese).). That is one of the example. Chongkian (talk) 03:08, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see. --Beta LohmanOffice box 03:29, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I came here to inform. I plan to remove the English translation on the titles of Chinese media. The MIB has been nominated for weekly translation. Then it would affect the versions in multiple languages if it's promoted on the agenda. So it shall be kept with original titles.--Beta LohmanOffice box 05:46, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template categories headers[edit]

Please avoid adding empty values for template {{Template category}} as you did in Special:Diff/1114167129. Empty values only clutter the category pages and empty parameter |type= actually causes a minor glitch in the output. I've added more samples to the documentation to make them easily copy-pasteable. —andrybak (talk) 02:02, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok, sorry. Cuz all these while I just followed the same MoS 'style' when inputting Infoboxes (leaving the empty parameters as it is until one day more information are available to be put into those parameters). Chongkian (talk) 02:08, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Saint Barthélemy templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

wrongly create. I intended to create Category:Saint Barthélemy templates

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. FeralOink (talk) 04:01, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you created the template, and made the request for speedy deletion, but intended to create [[Category:Saint Barthélemy templates]]. Thank you for explaining what happened! (Sorry, but I had to put this notice on your talk page anyway.) I wanted you to be aware that there already exists a Category with that name. It seems to be a correctly constructed. You can't create a Category:Saint Barthélemy templates because it would be a duplicate. Is there anything I am not understanding? If there is, let's include it on the talk page for the existing category, if possible. If not, you might put it on the to-be-deleted Template:Saint Barthélemy templates talk page, just to get help. --FeralOink (talk) 04:17, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, before I intended to create that Category:Saint Barthélemy templates, I search the wrong keyword (which was Template:Saint Barthélemy templates), then Wikipedia showed no result for that, thus I created that Template:Saint Barthélemy templates. Then only I realized it was a typo from the very beginning when I used "Template:xxx" instead of "Category:xxx". That's why I requested the speedy deletion for that Template:Saint Barthélemy templates page. Chongkian (talk) 00:39, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:39, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if there is any mechanism to show that a particular discussion is closed already (been archived) since it has been solved or it is always opened for discussion before the problem got solved? Because editors may not always look at the date of a particular discussion on when it was posted (or last commented). Chongkian (talk) 00:43, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article 5th National Congress of the Kuomintang has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article should be moved to drafts. It's an inherently notable topic (being a congress of a major political party) but it's only source is unreliable on its own (the party's official history) and the article itself is a complete mess.

Leaving a welcome template[edit]

Be sure to substitute those templates. See {{welcomeh}}. Use {{subst:welcomeh}}, instead of {{welcomeh}}. I fixed talk:Simón Rosales Lp, but you should go back and fix the rest. Oh, I didnt notice that. Because usually most of the (other) templates when I paste it on any Wikipedia articles, I will just use the template page name (without the 'subst:' part). I'll use this new one after this. Chongkian (talk) 05:00, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what your intentions were...[edit]

...but you just welcomed an editor with a blatant username violation and thanked them for their contributions which consisted solely of vandalism. There's a reason why we don't welcome editors who haven't made any edits.-- Ponyobons mots 21:55, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh, I see you're welcome people upon account creation regardless of whether they've edited. That's really discouraged, even the Wikipedia:Welcoming committee specifically advises against it.-- Ponyobons mots 21:58, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The welcoming note is not for editors with vast contribution. It is especially for newbie with little or no contribution, to tell to them what are the do's & don'ts in Wikipedia, so as to avoid any potential editor who will violate the rules and regulations of Wikipedia. So at least with that welcoming note, there is a black & white ground to warn or block editor in the case of any violation made by him/her. Or is there any other way (or better way) on how to properly welcome and brief the newbie editors? I'm completely open for that. Chongkian (talk) 07:40, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
sheesh your english shows you up! The point made above is saying if you welcome new users ( a much more polite - lebih sopan - way of naming them) - you must be very aware that the welcoming committee would prefer to see an. edit or two - to go to recent changes and simply welcoming red linked new users is a very precarious (kurang sehat) way of dealing with the new user - it is always better to see their edits before welcoming (perlahan perlahan). I know some admins would give you a very hard time if you did the welcome red links in a large scale - before there is any sign of edits of any kind. JarrahTree 07:47, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. If we have an MoS which can nicely write and summarize all of these (in the topic of dealing/welcoming with new editors), that would be really nice. Because I think got some other editors who always give this welcoming note to newly joined/registered editors, that's why I was trying to follow that style. I am not sure if that is BOT/automatically done by script or manually done like me. Chongkian (talk) 08:05, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Uhm, looks like the MoS to deal with my inquiry above is already written in Wikipedia:Welcoming committee. Ok, I shall read that MoS first now. I only know about it now, my apology. Chongkian (talk) 08:09, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On the basis that even consideringCreated page with subst:welcomeh becomes completely irrelevent if you use twinkle! in your preferences - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets

then - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Twinkle/Preferences there is no need to activate all the parts - the welcome section is worth having on! well worth the time to have a look - as well as - for talk pages https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Evad37/rater

maaf, tetapi[edit]

Re glam in Queensland... The adding of the 'project' to anything that relates to glam, or wikimedia - was a standard way of separating content talk pages from the glam/wikmimedia aspect of things - streamlining is hardly an adequate explanation of why and how removing the tag is of anyone's understanding of what is what - very specifically the australian chapter/project when it is involved in things - the usage of the tag helps keep it separate from the assessment issues... I sure hope in your massive edit count (now) that you havent streamlined too much! Please understand each country has differences in understanding such identification - it requires a bit of a 'check' before delete/revert. Hati hati - you must have developed either a sense of humour by now with that number of edits, or maybe you are more cynical, or even understand irony perhaps? JarrahTree 07:37, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JarrahTree. As you and I know, I had been editing in the main space of Wikipedia extremely a lot since years ago. And since a couple years ago, I started to try and explore on the editing outside the main space (e.g. on category, template, portal, including all of their talk pages, thus the wikiproject tagging for these non-main/non-article pages). From what I see, since there are extremely few people editing in this non-main pages, the MoS (manual of style) for editing these pages are not fully developed or are not really complete to cover all of the small issues (in which 99.99% of Wikipedia editors will probably never bother to look at), thus I can see so many aspects are in the grew area (not enough black and white to begin with). Most of the WikiProjects are left inactive or defunct because the time where people play around with this WikiProject was probably 10 years ago. Nowadays, not so many editors play around with WikiProjects editing (aside from the famous and highly used WikiProjects), because probably they are more towards Wikidata now (my wild guess). So I can see extremely lack of standardization of applying this MoS to any WikiProject-related pages, thus my recent edit works are mostly in this. I know on that 'streamlining' edit summary, that is what so far I haven't found out the MoS to cover that. Before this, we had to specify one is template, category or project in the 'class='. later on, even when the class= is left empty, the WikiProject banner will automatically display those class. And only recently (starting last month I think), now all of the non-main/article pages (the non-GA/B/C/start/stub pages), their WikiProject banner will not even display those template, category, project class anymore. And yes, I do realize some particular WikiProject (especially country-based) has slightly different style of writing, and I apologize if I overlook into that. This special MoS is more towards country-based, instead of topic based. And I know WikiProject Australia is quite active in this with high level of patrol (if I put this correctly) among its articles, that's why from that itself I don't do much edit on Australia-related articles or WikiProject, aside from a couple of new articles about Australia I have created before. lucu sekali[edit]

The wisest thing which many editors dont take seriously enough - if you dont know anything about it - dont edit it! Malay and Indonesian articles are in themselves worthy of much more closer examination - atrocious english (in some cases not even comprehendable) and in many cases lots of cleanup-able parts of articles - and singapore and brunei I havent checked carefully to offer an opinion. But then it is very easy to take it all too seriously - editing, that is... Some mistakes and errors are very funny when viewed, and in the end, no one seems to be interested in maintenance - but that is a very long drawnout issue across projects. I fully disagree with the idea of 'inactive' projects - they might look that way, they are waiting to be re-awakened after their siesta/istirihat, like a phoenix in a harry potter movie or something similar... In the end, take care! hati hati, saya tak mau mengangu (atau something similar) JarrahTree 08:12, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject banners[edit]

Regarding edits such as this one: note it's not necessary to tag subpages of the WikiProject as being within the scope of the WikiProject. Note the relevant sections in Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide are really about tagging articles, as this will enable article alerts to be raised for them. The retention WikiProject, in particular, has no articles associated with it as it is not a content-area related initiative. Happy editing! isaacl (talk) 16:13, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Mount Tiantai (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Hatnotes should be enough disambiguation here, or entries on Tiantai (disambiguation).

PROPERNAME[edit]

Hi. You recently moved Kinsale Road power station to Kinsale Road Power Station and Aghada power station to Aghada Power Station. With a note that each represents the WP:PROPERNAME of the subject (and hence capitalisation is required). Can I ask please what you relied upon for these moves? The sources in the article do not seem to suggest that, for example, "Aghada Power Station" (capital "P", capital "S") is the proper name of the subject? The ESB Group (the owners of the facility) seem to refer to it variously as "Aghada Generating Station" or "Aghada Combined Cycle Power Station". The latter, in particular, not being a COMMONNAME. While, to my mind, Aghada power station (as it was) is a COMMONNAME, the capitalised version Aghada Power Station (as you propose) doesn't appear to be its PROPERNAME. What thinking/sources prompted these moves please? Absent sources which suggest or confirm that the subject's PROPERNAME is "Aghada Power Station", can the move be supported? Guliolopez (talk) 15:34, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Me again. Absent a response on the above (and rationale or sources confirming that these are the proper names for the subjects), I have restored the original article names. I have done the same to Carrigadrohid hydroelectric power station. These restorations are in keeping with the guidelines on dealing with undiscussed moves (which provides that "If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move"). Personally I don't think that the proposed titles represent proper names. Certainly not to the extent that they override WP:COMMONNAME or the "proper name" exception to WP:NCCPT. If you feel strongly, that they are the proper names, please open related threads (ideally with references to support your position) as expected by WP:RM#CM. Thanks. Hello.

In the protected Stepanakert article, can you add these paragraphs at the bottom of the "Control by Azerbaijan" section?

« In the following months, Azerbaijani authorities dismantled monuments symbolizing Artsakh, including the Giant Cross and the Eagle Monument,[1][2] and statues of prominent Armenians in the city, among them, Stepan Shahumyan,[3] after whom Stepanakert is named, Charles Aznavour[4] and Alexander Myasnikyan.[5]

In early March 2024, Azerbaijani authorities demolished the National Assembly of Artsakh Building and the Artsakh Freedom Fighters Union Building.[6][7] »

Palestine[edit]

Hi. Please mind the interest of the user, if nothing else. How does it serve the user to read that X or Y is in the State of Palestine rather than in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories? Most people never went there, have no idea about actual local conditions. Your version lets them believe there is a State of Palestine, with airports and visas, and if you want to get to place X, say, the Inn of the Good Samaritan museum, you take a taxi with a license from the State of Palestine, drive on roads policed by officers from the State of Palestine, pay the entry fee with money issued by the State of Palestine, read signs in Arabic written by Palestinian archaeologists and museographers and so forth. None of that is the case, zero, zilch. Pie in the sky. If you're an activist, it's counterproductive to state the goal of the struggle has been reached when that's clearly NOT the case. If you are a Wiki editor, you must at the very least make the distinction between "contested de jure status" and "hardly contested de facto status". There's no way of looking at this type of edit and find it to be useful, either to the user (Wiki's reason to exist) or to the "cause" - other than by the "wag the dog by its tail" activistic approach, which is highly challangeable, weak and, as I wrote, counterproductive. Please, don't answer to me, just take a minute and think it over: whom did I help? Cheers, Arminden (talk) 07:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CATDEF and WikiProject templates[edit]

Hi. I've noticed for some time that you've been using the edit summary "add other related wikiproject per WP:CATDEF" when adding WikiProject tempaltes to category talk pages. This isn't quite right, as WP:CATDEF is about categorizing articles and has nothing to do with WikiProjects, and your edit summary may confuse other users. The rationale for tagging a category with a WikiProject would be the project scope for that individual WikiProject. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:34, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for noticing the detail. After I've read, yes I guess you are right. If that's the case, any idea on what is more appropriate Manual of Style rule (MoS) for me to add into the edit summary? Chongkian (talk) 12:08, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this will do WP:PROJSCOPE. Well, some of MoS are overlapping or redundant to each other. Chongkian (talk) 12:10, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think WP:PROJSCOPE would be more relevant for the edit summaries. And yeah, the various shortcuts can be difficult to keep track of (I didn't actually know of WP:PROJSCOPE before; nice work locating it). --Paul_012 (talk) 02:34, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
