Player stats

Under WP:Hockey project WP:HOCKEY/PPF guideline, we don't update player statistics during the season. I've reverted the stats under Gregg Johnson to exclude this season, but could you please clean up the other cases where you've done this? New Years Message for WikiProject United States

With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. Question about WikiProject South Carolina

Greetings, I noticed in the members list for WikiProject United States you mentioned having an interest in WikiProject South Carolina. I have been watching the WPSC project for a while and it doesn't appear to be very active and I had a proposition for the members to consider. I wanted to ask, do you think that the project would be interested in falling under WikiProject United States to some degree. I am not necessarily talking a full merger unless thats what they want but here is what I mean.

1. The project would stay the way it is except for a couple things. I would like to replace {{WikiProject South Carolina}} with {{WikiProject United States}} and add WPSC to the list of Projects supported by WPUS. This would include replacing the WPSC template on the talk pages of the articles with WPUS/South Carolina (if you want to see an examply you camn look at Washington DC).
2. I would also add it to the list of Projects supported by WPUS on the main WPUS landing page.

This would do a couple things that I think would benefit both projects.

1. It would increase visibility of South Carolina and related articles to a much larger user base
2. It would allow WPSC to more easily benefit from the Bots running for WPUS. This includes article alert bot that warns of Articles and Images for deletion or Promotion. This would ensure maximum visibility if an article relating to South Carolina was submitted for deletion or promotion.
3. It would allow the South Carolina related articles to fall under the WPUS and South Carolina scope.
4. It would somewhat reduce the maintenance required by consolidating the templates
5. It would reduce the number of templates visibile on the articles
6. In addition to the above, I typically cycle through all the articles in the WPUS scope every month or 2 fixing various things (sections, typos, persondata, categories, etc) and this would allow the South Carolina articles to fall under that much more easily.

Before I go shooting messages to all the members of the project please let me know what thuoghts or ideas you have about this and if the other members would be receptive to this. Thanks in advance. --Kumioko (talk) 16:08, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree that having WPSC under the aegis of WPUS would definitely help with respect to the resources that WPUS can bring to bear. My only concerns are as follows:

1. WPSC losing its identity as it becomes subsumed by WPUS, and
2. WPUS becoming gargantuan and difficult to manage.

WPSC has stalled in recent (well, let's face it) years, and so I do welcome the idea of opening it to a new audience of editors and readers. I just don't want it to stagnate there as well and simply become a WPUS footnote instead of a living project.  Cjmclark ^(Contact) 18:41, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, well first let me start with the statement that WPUS is going to be big. Yep no denying that but there are lots of big projects out there. Wen also have over 160 members that have signed up recently though and several are becoming active including yourself. IMO the size of the project won't be as much an issue as long as we use technology to our advantage and maximize our resources. For example the use of AWB, bots and content drives to keep things alive as well as collaborating with other projects. In regards to WPSC losing its identity, the only thing substantive that would be different would be that the project would be added to {{WikiProject South Carolina}} and the WPSC banner would be replaced with the WPUS/SC one (this allows the articles to appear in both places while minimizing the number of banners on the articles). Then I would also add it to the top of the WPUS page like District of Columbia as a project being supported by (but not owned or controlled by) WPUS. This hopefully will help increase its visibility and at the same time allow the articles that fall under the WPSC scope to be reviewed for things like Article alerts and other things. Since there are several members of the WPUS project that mentioned being interested in WPSC already im hoping they will continue to make improvements. I am so stoopid. I just started working on boot to the head because it's unreferenced too. Anyway, I just remembered that on the album it was the martial arts instructor that was giving the boot. RE: Team rosters

I think the rosters should stay until at least July 1 ( that is the beginning of the NHL's free agent signing.) As players sign with new clubs, include them in the contract section indicating that it is for 2011-12. See Frigren & Hisey Raul17 (talk) 14:44, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

It's a nice idea in theory. I edit predominantly in the ECHL for hockey, and roster information isn't generally as forthcoming as with the higher leagues. Sometimes guys can literally fall off the radar (see Gregg Johnson). I usually wait until the season opening roster is officially announced, and update from there. It becomes prohibitive at this level to find reliable sources for player movements otherwise.  Cjmclark ^(Contact) 15:53, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

We are in agreement. My response was to answer your question to another editor. This was the first time I heard of any player signing with a team before the summer. Most ECHL players do not have their signings annouced if moving overseas.

I only edit the Kalamazoo Wings and Trenton Devils plus the Utah Grizzlies at times in the ECHL. I usually wait until the end of the season rosters (when all those future considerations have to be finalized and players whose rights are being protected) are annouced by the league before I update the rosters.

Under old roster format, I would hide those players that did not sign with the team and search them in Hockeydb.com. If I could not find them, I left them hidden. Trenton & Utah signed players who just disappeared. Thanks Raul17 (talk) 17:25, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Could it be argued that players in the AHL (which is what my question was primarily for because I edit mainly the Lake Erie Monsters, but it does also apply for the ECHL and Central Hockey League) who were signed to ATO's and PTO's could be removed when their team is either out of the playoffs or their season has ended?Weatherman05071 (talk) 19:41, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

I would leave them as they are unless the player signed a standard contract. The New York Islanders signed one of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers players to an NHL contract after being an ATO. Most of these players usually sign with another team. Raul17 (talk) 15:07, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

My examples are Calvin Pickard and Steffan Elliott who were signed to deals by the Colorado Avalanche and assigned to Lake Erie for the playoffs, but as far as Pickard his status is unknown because he still has eligibility in the WHL. In that case I would argue that they be kept, but hidden. However they also signed a couple people to ATO's that were not draft picks for Colordao and IMO that makes them less likely to come back. Yeah, most of the ECHL's business decisions are quite clandestine. I've been surfing numerous minor league hockey forums trying to get some info and maybe an article or two. I seriously doubt the league will allow an ownership group in Trenton that they think is anything but rock solid, so I'm 20-80 when it comes to whether or not there is a team in Trenton next season. Though the league registering the Trenton Titans name and logo makes me think that if they don't find an ownership for the upcoming season, they will try and find one for the 2012–13 season. They've been weird about it on their website, too. Initially they posted a press release re: the franchise folding, then they took it down. Now, instead of taking the Trenton team link off of the top of the website, they've just left it in place with an ECHL logo instead of the Devils one. I'd say they are definitely poising to keep the franchise, but as you say, it may not be this season. I hope for the fans' sake they can pull it together.

I think, despite the league's desire to expand in the west and south, that Columbia is still dead. There's a lot of internal resistance in the city from the University of South Carolina, likely because having a minor league team in the city creates competition for their college teams.  Cjmclark ^(Contact) 14:02, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Back in 2007, when the Devils bought the Trenton Titans, many of us on forums began the death clock for the Titans/T-Devils. The NHL Devils have a great history of killing minor league hockey towns, the most notable is Lowell, MA and now Trenton. Both teams had decent support when they had neutral names (i.e Lock Monsters, Titans) considering the majority of the cities' fan bases were fans of the Devils' NHL rivals in Boston and Philadelphia respectively, when those names became Devils it turned off a lot of fans. A few posts in the comments sections on one of the newspaper web articles I posted about Trenton on the ECHL article have a few commentators referring to Trenton's re-branding as a reason they no longer attended games. I have a good reason to believe that if a new ownership group is found (either for this season or the next) and the Flyers affiliate and cross-promote like they have stated they intend to, the new(-ish) Trenton ECHL team will be able to draw back fans like they did during a major portion of the Titans era.

It seems (almost) every time we chat, we come along the subject of Columbia and/or Reno, lol. The only way the Inferno return is if USC gives them a lease for the Carolina Coliseum and that would cause (IMO) too much scheduling conflicts for the arena and, as you said, could take away from ticket revenue from the Gamecocks basketball programs. I think we'll see a major realignment of "AA" hockey following this season, as I don't think the CHL is long for this hockey world. As for losing teams in the Northeast, I would love to see a good "A" league in the Northeast like the SPHL, unfortunately the Northeast has the Federal Hockey League which is (IMO) more of a glorified rec league than a professional minor hockey league. The word we have down here is that the ECHL is looking to expand to 24 teams, with expansion in the West and South. I know South-wise they'd like to get back into the VA, NC, and LA/MI markets. Not sure about out West, other than their perpetual hope that the Reno Raiders will eventually have a stadium. The way attendance numbers are now I don't think the league can realistically support another SC team at this point. I don't know why they're not focusing on the Northeast or picking up more Canadian teams.  Cjmclark ^(Contact) 22:03, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

The areas that I know that are being considered are Fresno and San Diego. The ECHL Checkers were said to be moving to San Diego following the AHL's arrival in Charlotte, but the Hahn family, who own the San Diego Sports Arena, killed the deal, apparently they want an AHL team with Anaheim, which would cause problems as AEG (owner of the LA Kings) operates the arena and there are doubts AEG would allow a rival organization field an AHL team in their arena. I have also heard that Phoenix could be an option IF the Coyotes relocate, as a reason that was given for the RoadRunners folding was the competition with the Coyotes in Glendale.

The Northeast seems content with minor league baseball instead of hockey, though it has in recent years became as much of a hotbed for producing really, really good talent as Minnesota. I think Lewiston, ME, Lowell, MA and if their teams are relocated, Binghamton and Albany, NY would be perfect if there were decent ownership groups. My personal wishlist would also include Jamestown, NY (former MAHL town, now with a relocated NAHL junior club), New Haven, CT (though competition with AHL Hartford and Bridgeport certainly kills that) and a return to Atlantic City. The Springfield Falcons are always teetering on the brink of oblivion, though it seems the AHL will do anything to keep the Falcons afloat as the league headquarters are based their. IF the AHL shifts some of its Northeast clubs to the western United States and possibly western Canada, those markets could be ripe for the ECHL to pick up.

In the South, Richmond, VA (if SportsQuest is built) and Greensboro, NC are higher on the list than Columbia, SC, though as long as Columbia pays that $1MM or so per year for franchise rights they'll still be "around." I would've thrown the Mississippi RiverKings and Huntsville Havoc in the hat as well, but Huntsville seems quite content with the SPHL and the RiverKigns have just moved to the SPHL and without someone between them and Gwinnett, I doubt they'd join the ECHL even if their non-profit is able to keep the team afloat.

Lastly, I really think the ECHL could or will take a few more teams from the CHL (namely Fort Wayne, Rapid City, Tulsa, Allen, Missouri and Wichita). Though I know that exceeds what McKenna says he's looking for, the guy will not pass up a good money stream and many of those franchises are some of the few minor league hockey clubs making money. Trenton Titans

Hersheybearsfan (talk) 20:16, 2 August 2011 (UTC)I think it's time that there should be two seperate articles, one on the new Trenton Titans and the other on the Trenton Devils, since the new Titans are considered to be not related to the Trenton Devils. There are two seperated articles for the Quad City Mallards. One for the original franchise and one for the current franchise. There are newspapers that said the Titans are same Devils franchise and other newspapers say that it is a new franchise, which is confusing. To resolve this problem, there should be two seperate articles, one article for the new Titans and one article for the Trenton Devils. On the Flyers website it also says that this the same franchise. This is the only concept I got for you. You better consider this immediately. Your a Stingrays fan, Im a actual Titans fan.

I had watchlisted the Titans article after doing a good bit of work on it but wound up having to take it off because of all the unsourced changes that I didn't have the time or energy to fight. He was a sockpuppet who has been blocked and the page is currently protected against new/unregistered accounts because he kept socking on IPs as well. ECHL Rosters for Called up Players

Hey bud, Ive been really into updating the 2011-12 Greenville Road Warriors rosters. No problems It was pretty easy to pickup just curious should I include guys who are loaned up. EX TJ Fast for Greenville. I didn't see a field to include that (like CAP and INJ) Thanks. Also you can take a look if you want. What I generally do is for guys who are called up/loaned to AHL teams is I use wiki markup to keep them in the template without appearing in the text. To do this, put a <!-- in front of the line for the player (where it says {{player7) and put a --> at the end (after the }}). Then whenever they come back, I remove those and they show up in the roster. Let me know if you need any more help.  Cjmclark ^(Contact) 20:59, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
