I understand some of what I wrote was unsourced, but most of it was sourced. What about my history section which had perfect sources? What about the fact that I said that the LOKed out Khmer Bloods were rivals, and it was included in a source? I didn't include sources for Wah Ching being a rival gang, and that was it. Speedy deletion nomination of Tongan Crip Gang[edit]

Hello Cyanidethistles,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Tongan Crip Gang for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Dudel250 (talk) 00:18, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Tongan Crip Gang has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There is no single gang of this name. At best there are three groups of youths (widely separated in time and space) who have used the name. None of the references support this being a single gang.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stuartyeates (talk) 02:44, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya: Regarding the list you made List of people from Santa Rosa, California, did you know that the Wiki Cities Projects guidelines say no inclusion on notables list without a Wikipedia page of their own? Vietnamese people in Hong Kong[edit]

I have removed your statement from the article. Everything about it is inaccurate:

  • "As of 2011, the Vietnamese population is concentrated in the areas of Peng Chau and Hei Ling Chau on Lantau Island, which are at least one percent Vietnamese.[1]". My understanding of yourstatement is "most of the Vietnamese population of Hong Kong is located in Peng Chau and Hei Ling Chau".
Peng Chau and Hei Ling Chau are islands, they are not "on" Lantau Island, which is also an island
the stats are grouping Peng Chau and Hei Ling Chau, but Hei Ling Chau is in fact a prison island. So either the Vietnamese are still in a camp there or in jail, or the ones counted are living on Peng Chau
There is a grand total of 80 Vietnamese reported on Peng Chau and Hei Ling Chau. That amounts to a relatively high percentage because the total population of these 2 islands is low. In no case does that mean than "the Vietnamese population is concentrated" there. There are thousands of Vietnamese in other parts of Hong Kong.
Therefore I have removed it. Underwaterbuffalo (talk) 23:01, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. However, do you know any articles online having information about where Vietnamese are concentrated in HK? Cyanidethistles (talk) 23:02, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

I live in the area where this incident occurred and it's not notable. Important but not notable. There have been far more serious cases involving police that resulted in DEATH or INJURY and there is zero mention of it on the page of city where it occurred. Why is there no mention about the shooting death of Jeremiah Chass on the Sebastopol, California page? Why is there no mention of the police shooting death of a mentally ill man named Richard Desantis in Santa Rosa on its city article? Why is there no mention of the death of Shooting of Kuanchung Kao on the Rohnert Park page? These are far more notable and serious than a generic but unfortunate incident of a cop unholstering his gun.

How about you answer those questions before attacking me. I am in favor of making awareness of police brutality but people who are truly against police hurt the cause and use Wikipedia as a way to vent out their anger, and if I mistake you as one I apologize

Please do a Talk first[edit]

Hello @Cyanidethistles:. I noticed you moved a page and renamed it to something else Shooting of Corey Jones. Beside the fact that I fundamentally disagree with this decision to move the page and rename it because it strips the subject of their personhood, and IS NOT a mandatory designation AT ALL, it would have been much more of a good-will gesture if you had brought up the idea on the Talk page so there could be discussion about this renaming and moving of the page first. It's just really important to talk with others about doing such a major change first. Also, this is a very new, developing entry, with breaking news. To contextualize this entry in this way, it may or may not be the most effective approach. I suspect it's also slightly premature to make these decisions. And if you look at other similar entries, they list the person's name, not the act. So I'm going to ask to have this changed back. So just begging you here: Please try and talk first. -- BrillLyle (talk) 04:40, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That is literally how every police shooting article is, aside from a few. So what you said isn't even accurate. For example Shooting of Michael Brown, Shooting of Oscar Grant, Shooting of Akai Gurley, and much much more. I don't see why the article needs to be about the guy, because he is only known for being killed, and not for himself. Not being harsh or anything that's just how it's done on this site. I don't see the reason why it's so wrong to have it like that. Cyanidethistles (talk) 04:50, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyanidethistles:. Please indent your responses. This is typical on a Talk page discussion.
First off, that's not necessarily true, that every person who has been killed in police custody or in an altercation has a page named this. I could give you a list of people who don't have articles following this convention. Secondly, this act strips the subject of the article EVEN MORE of their personhood, by reducing their life and notability to the act of their death. I think it's something that should be considered carefully. Thirdly, this is a VERY recent case. So to make this judgment to change the tenor of the framework of the entry, it seems, again as I said before, premature. Fourthly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: I think it's just sort of not such a nice action on your part to do something like this without having made any effort to discuss it first. I think it's really important, this point, that to do something so significant to an entry, it's REALLY important to discuss it first. I see you are a relatively new editor. I would encourage you to look at what others do in situations like this and maybe err on the side of talking first? Finally, I think that it is completely harsh to list people like this. It's dehumanizing and I think reductive. I obviously think it's really wrong in this case, especially given how new the case is. Lastly, I think adding content to the page would've been a really nice thing, versus just messing with the page the way you did. I don't get this. It's obvious I spent A LOT of time on this page, and you just sort of went in and didn't add really add content. I know it's a lot harder than this type of edit, but on a page like this, where it's very clearly a solid entry, it seems like these efforts could be put to better use elsewhere. -- BrillLyle (talk) 05:00, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Examples:
Category:Victims of police brutality
Category:People who died in prison custody
Category:People shot dead by law enforcement officers
Category:People who died in police custody
Category:Deaths in custody
Relatively new although I've obviously been here since 2007-08 as you can tell by my profile? No, I did so because it's the proper format on ALL the big police shooting pages. Sure there are a few where it's just about the person in the bold, but few of them are massive articles on big events. You see it as dehumanizing but this is an online encyclopedia and not a memorial. This has to be neutral, and reporting it in such a way sounds like you're doing so out of sympathy, which is not how this site is ran by. It sounds like you don't know much about journalism or publishing articles. I don't care if you revert it back but eventually someone else will change it to the regular style.
And I still fail to see how it's dehumanizing. This is an article about an EVENT, and the name of the page should reflect the name of the event.
Cyanidethistles (talk) 05:17, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Relatively new in that you don't indent talk discussions and have a lot of disamb links on your talk page?
I fail to see what is proper. Sort of a strange descriptor and undermines the argument presented completely. Also, if you peruse any of the category links I provided above you can see that the majority of listings are NOT using the style you provided.
I sort of resent the implication that this entry is in any way a memorial. I made every effort to create an entry that was encyclopedic in tone and presented both the victim and the police's side. The end result of the police person being fired was given as a probationary issue, not as you re-wrote in the infobox you provided necessarily due to this event. I also noted he was let go from his position at the college because he was no longer a law enforcement officer, which was required to do the position. I think the neutrality of the article and tone is not in question, but the minute you made the over-arching decision to rename and refocus the article to the "Shooting of..." the neutrality is challenged and compromised. If you don't see the effect of this, and the issues surrounding this, it's obvious that this discussion has been exhausted and it might be good to just agree to disagree. I will ask to have this changed back. And will request going forward that there is a conversation about this on the Talk pages of any pages like going forward. The article CreaTV (San Jose) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unsourced, fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. The article Stabbing attack of Michelle Yi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The victim is not a notable person (10th place in Survivor 15 years ago), and the event is not notable in itself. There is no in-depth, significant coverage in multiple, independent reliable sources. I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Armenians in the San Francisco Bay Area, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Armenians in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
