Your draft is gonna be approved. The hold up though is that the page Mike Sprayberry already exists as a redirect, so I need to wait for an admin to delete it so I can approve your draft. Just letting you know your draft will be marked as under review until then. Curbon7 (talk) 06:36, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Great, thanks for reviewing it and for letting me know! It's my first new article so I'm super jazzed; no rush obviously. DanCherek (talk) 06:40, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Thanoscar21. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Curious George (film), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanoscar21talkcontributions 14:44, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

@Thanoscar21: Hi there! I noticed you reverted my edits to Curious George (film). There were three edits affected by this revert: (1) revising the film's plot summary; (2) slight modification to the character list; and (3) and adding sourced information about the film's premiere.
For (1): per WP:FILMPLOT, "[s]ince films are primary sources in their articles, basic descriptions of their plots are acceptable without reference to an outside source."
For (2): this edit was made based on WP:CASTLIST, which advises that we should "name the most relevant actors and roles with the most appropriate rule of thumb for the given film." If this is a sourcing issue, I would note that like the plot section, casts are often just listed plainly, even in featured articles (e.g. Hoodwinked! and Sense and Sensibility).
For (3): The information about the film's premiere was included with a link to CBS News, which should certainly be a reliable source.
Could I get a second look here? Thanks in advance. DanCherek (talk) 15:17, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Oh, right I completely forgot about that rule! I didn't see the four edits you made, I only saw that one most recent edit, so thanks for telling me. I've reverted my revert. Thanks again, Thanoscar21talkcontributions 15:22, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I can definitely see why that one edit would have looked suspicious on its own; regardless, thank you! I appreciate the quick reply. DanCherek (talk) 15:35, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Curious George (film)

Please do not remove sourced content and citations, then replace them with your own original research, as you did in this edit. The source clearly says that the film is an American and German co-production. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 10:42, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

@NinjaRobotPirate: Thanks for the message! I'm just not sure (but certainly open to being convinced) that the claimant section of the AFI catalog is the determinant of a film's country we should use. To take some featured articles as examples, should Evita be listed as a British-American film and Fight Club as a German-American film? (I see that in the Fight Club infobox the German listing is noted as a source of international funding, but it's referred to as an American film in the first sentence of the article.) Any insight would be appreciated, and you certainly have more experience with film articles than me! It's not something I'll dig my heels in for, just want to get it right. —DanCherek (talk) 14:11, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia is based on what the sources say. It doesn't really matter if any of us is convinced that they're right. If the weight of sources says something else, that's something to consider, of course. The American Film Institute catalogs theatrically-released American films, which makes it one of the easiest sources to cite. There are a few others in Europe that get used regularly, such as Lumiere (which calls it "American") and the British Film Institute (which calls it "American-German"). Trade magazines, such as Variety, are also a common source for Hollywood films, but they're sometimes paywalled. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:52, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
Gotcha, thanks! Yeah, "convinced" was a poor choice of words on my part—I wasn't doubting the veracity of AFI, but merely meant that I wasn't familiar with what a film claimant was and how that related to a film's country of origin. In any case, thank you for the helpful explanation! Hoping to eventually get Curious George (film) to GA... —DanCherek (talk) 13:21, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Our project

Good afternoon DanCherek. I noted a recent edit you made to the Delta Delta Delta page, reverting vandalism. Thanks for that.

Should you have further interest in Greek societies, we'd welcome your participation on our shared project, the Fraternities and Sororities Project.

For many of us, these institutions represent a very impactful period in our lives. I know of several chapter advisors among the regular 300 participants, along with general alumni and undergrads that are Wiki-savvy. We presently keep an eye on 1,500 or so Greek pages, while a fairly substantial number of recent or dormant local chapters don't make the cut. There are perhaps 6,000 locals that do not have a Wikipedia article, and maybe 50 that do - mostly at Ivy League schools. Long ago, the Baird's Manual editors decided to include as national groups those societies that had three or more chapters, or locals that met a certain bar of longevity: ten years or more. We follow that same logic.

The Project page lists several items on our To Do list, but among them are:

  1. Review any of our watched pages for vandalism.
  2. Update chapter information for the many lists of chapters.
  3. Write an article to list the Greeks on a particular campus. 50 of these have been done, so far.
  4. Research a new article for a page that is missing. On our watchlist, these show up as red links.
  5. Vote on whether to keep a contested page or not.

There is a debate among editors on Wikipedia about whether to aggressively delete articles or allow their inclusion, based on a notoriously fickle determination of NOTIBILITY. Once an article is factually and cleanly written, I personally favor Inclusion, in order to make life easier for future researchers. Especially for fraternity, sorority and collegiate society articles.

If this last issue is of interest, you may wish to weigh in on a recent discussion of an "Article for Deletion" or AfD: Two or three of these crop up each month. One we are currently discussing is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Delta Beta Phi. Voting is simple, and the instructions are at the top. Just add a line, with your vote, to Keep or Delete (or some other option) bolded at the start of the line.

Whatever you choose to do, we would welcome your participation in this Greek-friendly project. Join by adding your name here.

Guidance needed

I added that he ran out of fuel causing him to crash please guide me on the topic how is this suicide if you guys don't know the story how can you know that I am vandalising the page Singh10052003 (talk) 08:04, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

OK sorry for that

But can I add that he ran out of fuel causing him to crash and it wasn't a suicide Singh10052003 (talk) 08:06, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

@Singh10052003: Information that we add to Wikipedia needs to be based on reliable, published sources, not original research, so you would need to provide a reliable source for that. The reason that it's described as a suicide is this Bloomberg article, which is cited in the "Investigation" section. Best, DanCherek (talk) 08:12, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Nice work...

...on the SPI report. I was engaging with them on their talk, trying to give them pointers; I guess you were familiar with the antecedents, and saw through it. I'll review your latest stuff on the CVUA page over the next day or two, but seriously - nice work. GirthSummit (blether) 19:26, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

@Girth Summit: Thanks! I actually had the same experience as you but with the previous sock here. What certain people choose to do with their free time is quite baffling... DanCherek (talk) 19:41, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
It's annoying - certain individuals have wasted a whole load of my time here. "Like a dog returneth to its vomit..." - there are folk who just can't stay away from this site, and waste a lot of other people's time because we're all assuming good faith. That's not to say that we shouldn't continue to AGF: we need to do that even when we're doubtful. But when you're convinced - you did exactly the right thing, write a concise but convincing report and allow someone else to review and deal with it. DYK for The House of Asterion

On 6 February 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The House of Asterion, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that "The House of Asterion" by Jorge Luis Borges was one of the first works by a major author to examine a well-known tale from the monster's perspective? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The House of Asterion. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, The House of Asterion), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I have no idea what is wrong, but the signature icon doesn't show up in the edit mode. Ashleyyoursmile! 13:07, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
I'll just post the changes below. To the three points you raised in the review:
1) That's a good catch, I didn't see it that way, thanks for correcting.
2) Regarding the name of the band in the hook, if you see Please Please Me and Goats Head Soup, you'll find the band titles have used "the" and not "The" in the middle of the sentence.
3) Agreed that it can be condensed, so here's an alternate hook:
@Ashleyyoursmile: That all looks good, thanks! This is super close. The remaining thing I'd mentioned was whether the poem was actually written in 1981 (the Pitchfork source says his wife died in 1981 and he wrote the poem sometime after that). The article is fine, but I would either drop the year from the hook, or add the information about Elegies to the article and change the hook year to 1985. Does that make sense? DanCherek (talk) 13:27, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Right, I missed that part. I think the year should be dropped since this source doesn't explicitly mention that "The Kaleidoscope" is a part of the Elegies. So here's the final hook:
Thank you very much for the time you've devoted in reviewing this. --Ashleyyoursmile! 13:38, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Approved. Great job! Best, DanCherek (talk) 14:12, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

@Benchrest Air stripper: Welcome to Wikipedia! Please give WP:SOURCES a read. Specifically, information in articles must be based on independent, reliable, published sources, so a private email from an organization wouldn't be sufficient for inclusion. On the other hand, if the information that you'd like to add has been reported in a newspaper, or another reliable, published source, then that could be cited in the article. DanCherek - Just trying to provide more info

Hi DanCherek. You recently removed my LinkedIn linked for two of the founders of FiscalNote, Gerald Yao, and Jonathan Chen. Neither of which have a WIKI page as Tim Hwang does. Wikipedia is about providing as much information to the reader as possible. I added those Linkedin links so people can learn more about the founders since they do not have their own wiki pages. I AM NOT TRYING to SPAM with those links or promote anything. I am assuming you don't know much about the topic of FiscalNote nor the founders, however, I could be wrong so please stop removing the links. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hackbyrd (talkcontribs) 04:36, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello Hackbyrd, welcome to Wikipedia. I understand that your edits were not an effort to add spam to the article! However, please give Wikipedia's WP:LINKSTOAVOID guidelines a good read: #10 specifies that external links to social networking sites, including LinkedIn, should not be added to an article. If people don't have Wikipedia articles because they don't meet the strict notability guidelines, it's totally fine (and expected) to just leave them as plain text—you'll see instances of this in every Wikipedia article. Please let me know if you have any questions. Best, DanCherek (talk) 04:46, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

GA?

Hi - just wanted to let you know that I had a skim over The House of Asterion - excellent work. I noticed that not all of the refs are quite working, I fixed a couple of them, but I can't work out what's wrong with the Borges 1964 one. The sfn and cite book templates look fine to me, but it's not making the connection between the citation and the source. Someone at the WP:HELPDESK with better eyes than me might be able to help figure it out. Anyway, to my eye that's an obvious WP:GA candidate, if you wanted to nominate it. Just thought I'd let you know. GirthSummit (blether) 14:55, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Ah, crap, it already is one! I didn't look at the talk page, I just saw the DYK credit on your userpage, then noticed the thread above this after pressing 'Publish changes'! Oh well - I'm sure you'll knock it into shape, it's great work. GirthSummit (blether) 14:56, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
And, now I see that it requires no more knocking into shape, since it has passed the GA review already. I must actually read through things before commenting. Well, congratulations on your first GA - I remember being exceedingly chuffed when my first one passed, I hope you are too. GirthSummit (blether) 14:59, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Girth Summit, thanks for the ref fixes! I think I've corrected the Borges 1964 one, there was an extra "ref=" parameter in the citation from something else I had been testing. And yep, I'm super stoked about it—Legobot hasn't stopped by to add the icon yet, so I might need to look into that later. When I find some time I may try to expand further and put it up for peer review. Best, DanCherek (talk) 15:03, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
DanCherek, yes, that fixed it. I've never written about a book before, but to my eye it's exceedingly well written and extensively sourced - I think with a bit more expansion, you've got a potential FA there. Let me know if you get round to nominating, it I will happily do a review. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 15:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
By the way - an afterthought. I noticed the problem with the refs because I have this script installed. It doesn't tell you what the problem is, but it makes big red ugly warning messages appear on the page when the refs aren't all in order. It also tells you if you've got an entry in the sources that you haven't cited. Highly recommended if you want to find hard-to-spot problems. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 16:12, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Girth Summit - I just installed the script and tried it out in my sandbox. Works great! Many thanks. DanCherek (talk) 16:33, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for quality articles about varied topics such as The House of Asterion, Christina Soontornvat, Josephine Dobbs Clement and Wind phone, for fighting vandalism, for "it's fun to go where the wind blows!" - Dan, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

You are recipient no. 2540 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:48, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt, thank you for this wonderful surprise! My relatively short tenure at Wikipedia so far has been an amazing experience; my only regret is not joining sooner. I look forward to continuing to see you at DYK and elsewhere (and I'll check out QAI shortly!). Thanks again, for this and for your positive presence around the project. Best, DanCherek (talk) 23:06, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! I just read again that we share admiration for El C's translations of lyrics, about Us. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:09, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Beloved, we are us! El_C 23:12, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
What do "we" think about the images on Bach, - discussion just began. Dan, if you need an admin ask Drmies (the image mentioned is this, was lead image for Boy for a while), - El C should better translate more ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:31, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
I'll just say that more translations may happen at... some point in time. Hey, gotta keep some suspense going! El_C 23:35, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
We eagerly await. (How many more until you get the Rosetta Barnstar?) My Spotify playlists these days are pretty much all 70s rock and American pop, so the genre diversity is appreciated. DanCherek (talk) 23:50, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Truth be told, I've translated the lion's share of all my Israel and Jewish -related article contributions straight from the Hebrew Wikipedia, but I guess it doesn't have the drama of, say, the siteban of NedFausa, so hardly anyone notices.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ El_C 02:36, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
An admirable task nonetheless! I was looking for something to write about, stumbled upon he:נמרוד (פסל) just now, and have created Draft:Nimrod (statue). More to come... DanCherek (talk) 04:08, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

well i have proof of the edits i made. you may not be neutral in deciding if the edits were correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davys3193 (talkcontribs) 15:05, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Davys3193, you can't write that someone is "a fake news specialist" on Wikipedia, especially without providing a single reliable source to back it up. Wikipedia has a policy on biographies of living persons that imposes strict guidelines on how information needs to be sourced to reliable, published sources; "i have proof" isn't going to cut it. DanCherek (talk) 15:11, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Well the proof i had was the twitter post by this person claiming Coronil has been granted WHO clearance and DGCA clearance for covid medication and then WHO themselves stating in their official pages that they have not provided any clearance. Furthermore DGCA has sough explanation for the government of India on how these claims were made. All these information is there in public record. A responsible journalist does not peddle news without verifying, if he does he is supposed to be called out for propagating fake news. good luck with your Vigilante work but u need to get your facts straight as well. COVID times are filled with misinformation and such journalists fail to do their duty when they themselves spread misinformation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davys3193 (talkcontribs) 16:45, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Davys3193, thanks for responding. I understand your points and agree that COVID misinformation is dangerous. Please be assured I'm not trying to be a "vigilante" in any way, just trying to keep articles in line with the WP:BLP guidelines. If multiple high-quality and reliable secondary sources report that the subject has indeed spread misinformation, then it could be included in the article (a bit more neutrally written than "fake news specialist", of course), along with the citations to those sources. Best, DanCherek (talk) 16:58, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Congratulations

Your intriguing DYK hook about the wind phone and its use to communicate with the dead drew 11,352 page views (473 per hour) while on the Main Page. 331dot, that wasn't my page but thanks for deleting! I think I created the user talk page when I tagged their user page earlier for speedy deletion, and then they added a ton of spam to their talk. DanCherek (talk) 09:41, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Serious

Being serious now, why are you deleting my messages? Is it because I just joined and have had some vandalism issues? If it is, just respond and tell me and I won’t bother you again. I hope you understand sorry for my intrusion, thank you. MuchoNucho (talk) 05:32, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

You just made a series of abusive edits, repeatedly taunting an admin to block you, and then proceeded to attempt to delete content from my user page. This is clearly not being asked in good faith; please don't post on my talk page anymore. DanCherek (talk) 05:36, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
@DanCherek: you really need to file a complaint at the edit warring noticeboard. This intense edit war needs to stop right now, both of you. Rusted AutoParts 06:56, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Rusted AutoParts, thanks for the message, I'll lay off. I didn't see it as edit warring as their contributions indicate a self-professed vandal who is WP:NOTHERE (this was one of my reverts on Captain Marvel), whose edit summaries show a clear intent to disrupt Wikipedia (You’re persistent Dan, maybe I’ll change some random articles instead of Marvel movies, be ready), and whose AIV report has been languishing for an hour. Amazing behaviour. All of this users contributions have been reverted because of their poor behaviour. Should they be blocked? Brunswicknic (talk) 16:02, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

@Brunswicknic: I left a warning on their talk page (the second one they've gotten), so we'll see if it continues; it should probably be reported to ANI if it does. I also suspect that the RfA pages, particularly the recent ones, are already on the watchlist of several admins, so an admin may decide to take action anyway. Thanks Eddie891, I appreciate it! I'm really liking my time on Wikipedia, and I've enjoyed reading your articles when building DYK sets (and nice work on O Captain! My Captain!). Also, I remember seeing some sources for The Paperboy that I didn't have time to include, but that discussed its themes as well as its Black representation — I may revisit the article soon to add them and see if there's enough for a GA. Your GA nomination of Nellah Massey Bailey

The article Nellah Massey Bailey you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Nellah Massey Bailey for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Editing

Hello DanCherek, I just received messages about my alleged editing of a page about Calvin Johnson. I have never edited that page, and I can only surmise that someone with my IP address did so. I usually log in with my user name but when I don't and I get these messages, it worries me that I will be banned from Wikipedia. I have contributed annually for at least the last few years, and I hope to continue doing so. Thank you.2600:387:C:2E12:0:0:0:78 (talk) 00:48, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Yes, someone using this IP address made spammy edits like this one last week. If it wasn't you, no need to worry, as IP addresses can shift around sometimes. If you already have an account, you'll be fine no matter what, because even if someone else using the IP is blocked, you'll be able to log in and continue editing. Also, IP addresses are almost never blocked indefinitely. Let me know if you have any questions. DanCherek (talk) 01:29, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello

I received a message from you saying I'd changed something on a capybara page. Just wanted to let you know that I did nothing of the kind. I've never changed anything on Wikipedia, in fact, I only use it to find information if I am curious about something. I can't say I've ever looked up capybaras, although I did spend time in South America many years ago and saw them in real life. I'm not even sure if I am doing this in the right place, so hope you get this message.80.42.7.240 (talk) 07:27, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for the message. Yes, someone using this IP address (80.42.7.240) made this edit on the Capybara article a few days ago. If it wasn't you, no need to worry, as IP addresses can shift around sometimes. If you don't want to have to worry about this kind of thing in the future, I encourage you to create an account and then you won't get any messages that aren't meant for you. I totally get why the non-free criteria are only valid for deceased people but yes, it's frustrating to not have even a small, low-quality image... anyway, having written almost exclusively about Americans so far, the contest has been a great way of going out of my usual comfort zone. Autopatrolled granted

Hi DanCherek, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66 02:19, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

VSN Wiki

Hello DanCherek, Thanks for the invitation to the teahouse (and excuse me, but I have to use a translation program to write, because my knowledge of English still leaves something to be desired ;-)). I also read your comment on the VSN Wiki page and do I understand it correctly that it looks to you like an advertising page for your own website ? That is not the case and certainly not the intention. My intention is to provide reliable information, while it is certainly also the case that I get information first hand and therefore have to watch out to guard my neutrality properly. Diederickdan (talk) 05:39, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

In tend to call it spam, cross-wiki, about a wiki of a non-elected political party. The Banner talk 12:02, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
@User:The_Banner: Not elected enough during the elections, but that doesn't make it any less of a people's movement, does it ? (And why are you interfering ? Don't you have your own page?) Diederickdan (talk) 12:59, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Anyone is welcome to comment on my user talk page, which is public. You wrote about having "first hand" information above, so it sounds like you may have a conflict of interest, in which case you should read our WP:COI policy. DanCherek (talk) 13:11, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
@Diederickdan: Thanks for the message and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm happy to explain in more detail. My point was that the only sources/references that you provided in the draft are links to VSN Wiki's own websites. Because we can't have a Wikipedia article on every website on the Internet (imagine how chaotic that would become), the English Wikipedia has developed a set of notability guidelines for web content. You can find these guidelines at Wikipedia:Notability (web) (and note that these are specific to the English Wikipedia — each language community has their own standards). Essentially, we're interested in seeing what published, reliable, independent secondary sources have to say about the website, not what it says about itself, and it needs to have received significant coverage in multiple of these sources. The draft was declined because it has not been demonstrated to meet these criteria in its current state. DanCherek (talk) 12:05, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar, Carptrash! Fixing links to Georgia (U.S. state) and Georgia (country) is one of my favorite things to do when I need a break from writing articles. Another fun one is separating New York links into New York (state) and New York City, but that one's a little harder. Cheers and happy editing. DanCherek (talk) 16:09, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

You are on the verge of being blocked for vandalism, so I suggest you stop messing around. DanCherek (talk) 16:08, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Sorry

Hi, I wanted to say sorry for my part in derailing the DYK. I was just about to come back to it to say that the Alt0 is fine as there is no point in using so much time on such a small thing. Hopefully someone else will take the review forward. I looked at your other Finnish DYKs and I like them. It's impressive how much time you spend on creating articles for politicians from smaller countries. -kyykaarme (talk) 15:11, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

@Kyykaarme: No derailment at all! Thank you for your comments. It wasn't until afterwards that I realized that the UK has a similar system, where the Cabinet members are also MPs, so I think you're spot on and it wouldn't be surprising to half the world, and that's why I'm happy to go with ALT1. In the US, where I'm from, if a member of Congress is nominated to a cabinet position, they have to resign from their legislative duties. And thanks for this message — I'm creating these for a Women in Europe edit-a-thon, and it's great to learn about these people as I write. DanCherek (talk) 15:19, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok, that's good to hear. I had also thought of the UK system and how Boris Johnson is the PM and also an MP, so that's two out of the three. And hey thanks for finding and uploading images of the Finnish politicians! I'll add them to the articles in other Wikipedias. I don't know how familiar you are with editing Wikidata, but did you know that if you add an image to a person's Wikidata item, the image will automatically appear in those Wikipedias where the infobox images are taken directly from Wikidata? For example, I added Eskelinen's image to Wikidata, and it is now in the French Wikipedia article, even though I didn't edit the article there. It's a bit of extra work to add the images to Wikidata, and you're already doing a lot by creating articles, but I thought I'd mention it, in case you'd be interested in adding the images you upload also to WD. (You add an image to an item by creating a new statement, choosing "image" as the property, and then writing the file name as the value.) -kyykaarme (talk) 19:08, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
@Kyykaarme: Oh that's great, I had no idea about Wikidata, will keep that in mind for the future. Thanks for the tip! DanCherek (talk) 20:19, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi DanCherek. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 19:57, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Example of when someone living in a town would be a conflict of interest

So I kinda have a conflict of interest with the Wikipedia article for my town (not going to link to it for my own privacy) because I love the town and want more people to visit hit. However, if I were to add information to the article for my town I would risk making it seem like a travel guide, telling people places they should visit, instead of giving information on the town itself. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 13:38, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

@Blaze The Wolf: COI is not simply bias. (That links to the COI guidelines, which also state Beliefs and desires may lead to biased editing, but they do not constitute a COI.) You may be biased with respect to your town, but unless you stand to gain financially or professionally (e.g. if you run a travel agency), that's not really a conflict-of-interest issue. Actual COI problems, including undisclosed paid editing, abound on Wikipedia, so it's helpful to draw the line at what is and is not COI. DanCherek (talk) 13:47, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Ah ok. I thought Conflict of Interest was almost always associated with bias. Good to know. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 13:49, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Untitled message from 174.51.81.148

I know Mr. George Kiraly personally and he has been a notable figure in the homosexual community and has contributed to great achievements to the progress of homosexual rights and awareness in the United States. I believe tht Mr. Kiraly is more than deserving of a spot on the list of notable people with the Kiraly surname — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.51.81.148 (talk) 04:38, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

As with all surname lists, we generally include people only if they meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines (i.e., are the subject of significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources) and have existing Wikipedia articles about them. DanCherek (talk) 04:44, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
