Kevin Warwick

Hey I responded to you on the talk page of Kevin Warwick. I didn't want to add too much unsourced material, but the state of the article at the moment is just awful. Mysekurity 19:31, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Really? Why? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 16:46, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Hope you can help? No idea of the correct procedure I am afraid. User:KWCyborg 16.52, 11 June 2014 (UTC)User:KWcyborg

I am aware that you have been trying to help on this page but several issues still remain. Can you help further? KWcyborg (talk) 20:46, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

@KWcyborg: what are the remaining issues?
I am also a bit puzzled by what your Wikipedia username implies about who you are. Could you clear that up for me? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 16:46, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

There appears to be a POV at play in the June 2014 edits. The two references given do not question or indeed even mention the words - academic rigour - yet these terms have been entered on the page - twice (top + in a new criticism section). Also the references themselves - 11 and 12 - are both actually balanced with positive and negative points. However only the negative points have been selected on the page. For example in the first reference - 11 - it does indeed mention the entertainment issue, however it also directly quotes another opinion that the work is profound. This has been completely overlooked in the edit. On top of this, it does seem a little out of place to put such a statement in the opening lines of a page. As for my identity - do you need to guess? KWcyborg (talk) 14:47, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

I finally did it :)

About a month ago (9 May 2014) you were very kind and posted some support on my talk page when I worried about my English not being up to the Wikipedia standard. I especially mentioned that I wanted to work on the John Bauer (illustrator) article. I finally worked up my courage and rewrote the whole thing. Scary as h*** but fun.:) Thanks for your support! Best, - W.carter (talk) 20:29, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Alex Day

My sources for the Alex Day abuse stuff are [1]. I apologize for not putting sources on in the first place but I just noticed it and I thought it was completely necessary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dsb2001dsb (talkcontribs) 15:41, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for explaining your edit. Unfortunately, the source you mention does not say anything like what you posted about this person. You will need to look for another source, one that supports the statements that you want to add to the article. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:00, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Belated welcome

Thank you, Demiurge1000. The cookies look better than they taste (yes, my screen *is* warm).

And yes, I made occasional minor editorial corrections for a year or two before registering. I was a senior editor at our Hansard for a decade, after freelance writing for about 40 magazines and government clients. All Hansards are supposed to be what we called "substantially verbatim," unlike the Congressional Record, which allows after-the-fact insertions. So I'm quite attuned to fixing minor punctuation glitches.

The only article I've tried adding to was on Bocce. I suppose it's because the International Bocce Federation is so powerful, but the article is solely focused on court bocce. In reality, though, at least as many bocce games are played in back yards and parks as are played on courts. I suppose the right thing to do would be to find stats and articles about non-court bocce, to back up my additions, but I haven't found time to do that yet.

Again, thanks for the welcome, Demiurge1000.

Problem

Perhaps you can help me. I am wanting to create an article about a teenage business owner and political commentator, Caiden Cowger, but Wikipedia says that the article was locked from creation. I looked into the reasons why, and to be honest, I think that some of the administrators may have been bias. Here is what I mean. The administrator who locked the page made the smart-aleck remark to the user who went by the name DailyConservatism. The administrator said that DailyConservatism was not going to be able to post any articles because of their political affiliation. In the articles of deletion, they went on to call Cowger stupid, provided a Google search of ("Caiden Cowger" radio) rather than Caiden Cowger, which caused the search engine to bring up nothing; (this I find funny) the administrator then said that Mr. Cowger did not even exist. They also said that Cowger self-published his books, which is deceiving, because Mr. Cowger owns a publishing house in West Virginia under Cowger Nation Media, which is a WV multimedia company. Here is the website: http//corporate.cowgernetwork.com.

Personally, I am moderate. I base my opinions upon facts, and am loyal to information, not a specific ideology, but what they did seemed extremely wrong to me. I have researched this teenager, and he very popular politically in his state. He has a radio show based in Buckhannon, West Virginia, has interviewed presidential/senatorial candidates, is a syndicated columnist, a syndicated radio host, owns a television network, and even a newspaper. He has also made national headlines. I do not understand what the problem is here, but if it would be possible, I would love to write a page about him and his work.

Regardless of his beliefs, I think it is extraordinary that a teenager is that involved in business and politics. WikiMaster1998 — Preceding undated comment added 04:05, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

It is certainly extraordinary, but it is far from unique. Think of Malala Yousafzai.
Have many independent reliable sources written in detail about Cowger? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 04:13, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

I undid an anon's edit as he did not explain the reason for the deletion: diff. "Removed Model." is not a reason nor does it suggest to see the talk page. Which is what my edit summary stated: diff. WP:DTR Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 07:24, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

No, reverting someone (for being "an anon"?!?) by advising them to see the talk page, is irresponsible when you haven't seen the talk page. That's blind reverting. Don't do it, and especially not on a WP:BLP. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 07:27, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
Being an anon had nothing to do with my revert. If someone does something that does not make sense and does not leave a good reason, I will undo it as will numerous others. I am not going to search all over the place trying to figure out why an edit was made. That is the responsibility of the editor making the edit. BTW: you might want to 'fix' your revert. There is a formatting error. Jim1138 (talk) 07:36, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
You mentioned the editor being an anon, which is why I asked you about it here.
The article's talk page is not "all over the place" when considering whether to re-add controversial material about a living person into the article, it is the first place you should look after the article history (which you appear not to have done either).
Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Ansel Elgort is also relevant here.
If you, and indeed "numerous others", persist in re-adding unsourced or poorly sourced controversial material into this or any other biography of a living person, you and they will be blocked.
If you can't act responsibly on pages related to living persons, you may need to consider limiting your rollback-enabled recent change patrol to other pages.
I have not made any formatting errors in any reverts on that article. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:15, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

What's worrying is that I actually had to double-check that the towers aren't 2000 metres tall! (They do look rather impressive from ten or so miles away, it's hard to get a sense of scale at that distance.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:37, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

The Brilliant Idea Barnstar
... it is best not to regard the admin bit as a "promotion"; it is merely an indication that someone has certain technical rights to carry out certain dogsbody tasks as required and requested by the editing community. Thus of course, the removal of the bit would not be a "demotion", merely a period - indefinite or otherwise - of rest from such menial tasks.[1] — The most accurate description that I have seen regarding what being an administrator is, and is not. kelapstick(bainuu) 11:21, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Very tasty and much appreciated. Based no doubt in part on the sugar high, I dropped over and attempted to address your question from "Problem" above, but a filter and I seem to be having issues. WP:CLUEBOT seems to be finding rather too many false positives for my liking recently, too, and I didn't have much luck with a report for some reason. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:37, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

@Deb:@Demiurge1000:Hello, and pardon me for talk page stalking. I just wonder if there are any rules about the age of a user in certain positions? I can't help but notice that both of you have had some run-ins with above mentioned user, and that he have some tendency to get into trouble. I try to help, and guide him the best I can when he asks, but it seems like he could do with some more guidance. He is just so young and he want's to try everything. How is this usually dealt with? All the best w.carter-Talk 19:33, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Usually by means of WP:ADOPT or WP:MENTOR ... you're very welcome to give it a try! See also WP:Guidance for younger editors, which is aimed at an age slightly younger than the one mentioned, but it and its linked essays might still have relevance. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:00, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
From what I know he already is adopted by Matty.007, but it seems like that did not take, he's still very much a wild card. Me, still a newbie myself, so not so much into adoptions. So we'll just let him run wild for now? Best, w.carter-Talk 20:11, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, probably best. User:Matty.007, did you have a structured adoption program? I find that often works best (it can help to focus attention away from problem areas...)
Incidentally, W, just for future guidance, it's generally best not to repeat or speculate on things that self-identified minors state about themselves, just in case their original stating of it (or some interpretation of it) is a problem in some way. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:15, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, of course you are right. And this is why I brought the matter in a low key fashion to an experienced Wikipedian such as you, rather than take some action myself. I still live by the newbie-code: When in doubt: ask! And I did it since I'm a "softie" who'd rather be very wrong, than letting someone get into more trouble just by being inexperienced. Thank you for your kind advice and guidance. Best, w.carter-Talk 20:24, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
No problem, it just isn't totally low key around here with two or three hundred people (supposedly) watching :) Not all of them share your good intentions, in my experience. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:35, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
I know that, (Hello to the audience!) I mean how do you think I found you in the first place...:) but it's the best one can do right now. :) Life is a play on a theatre stage with the whole world watching. The trick is not to mind it too much. w.carter-Talk 20:46, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
No solid structure, I start with basics (format, requests, 5 pillars) and go from there. Would you advise something in particular to cover? Thanks, Matty.007 08:19, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
And I requested SL remove that info, which he has. W.carter and Demiurge: do you think W.carter should remove the reference to age here as well? Thanks, Matty.007 14:26, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Hello Matty.007, already done. :) Please remove more if you think that is for the best. We should all help our young. Best w.carter-Talk 15:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Looks good. Thanks again, Matty.007 16:47, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks to all. Just a note that if material mistakenly posted on-wiki has serious privacy implications, the only appropriate route for dealing with it is by email (or other private communication) to WP:RFO. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:08, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

@Matty.007: regarding structure, I have almost always used User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Lessons. Although it's difficult to make a course that's comprehensive enough for a wide-ranging and eager beginner, this course has the advantage that there is plenty to go at, and thus is useful for keeping people busy. :) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:37, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Did you just copy them, or re-write them/use them as a basis? Thanks, Matty.007 17:39, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
I think WTT copied them from Hersfold (who is credited), who in turn copied them from someone else (credited I imagine), and all of us have updated and added to them along the way. Then again, there's lots more to be done... --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:44, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

--Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:25, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
thank you soo much sir. I asked the above question because I was totally lost when [2] removed “Taofeek Olakunle Ajiboye” (Nigerian biochemist) from the List of biochemists. Perharps he felt am just an ordinary “autoconfirm user” or simply because the scientist is a Nigerian. Kindly verify the scientist notability, using the search engine or any other tools. Am a Dr. Of philosophy (Ph.D) in my field. But since I had not met the notability criteria, I can't violate the WP:COI policy, because that is not my mission here. In my WP:NPOV “Taofeek Olakunle Ajiboye” ought not to be removed from the List of biochemists. Pls. sir, kindly verify his notability. See this as well [[3] (Wikicology (talk) 00:12, 26 July 2014 (UTC))
Please explain why you feel that someone being Nigerian (or any other nationality) would be a reason for them to be removed from a List of biochemists. Thank you in advance. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:20, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
thank you sir. I don't have any significant explation for that sir. He gave a reason, that such scienstist must have a page here. He his an admin. Who am I to fault his edit? Thank you sir. Please kindly put me in a better position in your heart as a friend.(Wikicology (talk) 00:40, 26 July 2014 (UTC))

Let me try mine?

Hello Demiurge 1000, we had a deletion of the Article "Herzog Martin V. Zoransky" in German Wikipedia and after three days of discussion deleted it because it was considered a fake biography. I would like to start a discussion about deleting the English version of this article, but honestly: starting that appears to be far more complicated than in the German Wikipedia. I read on of your own contributions to the deletion discussions and would like to ask for your help with this. Thank you very much in advance, best wishes, LagondaDK (talk) 14:15, 29 July 2014 (UTC) EDIT: I guess somebody else did it by now. Soo its all right I guess. LagondaDK (talk) 18:52, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Heh, this talk page is not the place to come if something needs doing quickly :)
I'm not sure the CSD by an unregistered editor will be actioned. But, I've watchlisted it now, so if that gets declined then it will be a sign for, to quote a certain Cyberdyne Systems Model 101, "let me try mine". --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:04, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Well ... seems so ... that sticker for deletion was deleted itself so I guess it wasn't working with an IP and no reason given. Thing is: I hardly start deletion discussions on German Wikipedia, but for sure I ain't got a clue to get it started here! That article has to go! The whole biography has completely been made up! For details see my user-page. LagondaDK (talk) 21:12, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
I have asked for help from someone wiser than I. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:36, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
It's clearly a hoax, and one created with some effort, too. Most of those books referenced were created with CreateSpace and dummied up with fake publishing dates. They appear in Google Books as published by "Bender Books USA"; this title appears to be an effort to create a similar fake genealogy for the Rinaldi family. See also here. And...oh wow, we have a serious snake pit going here. This will need an SPI, I think. Choess (talk) 22:26, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Now at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Herzog Martin V. Zoransky. Choess, please would you do the SPI if not already done? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:20, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Done: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AustralianThreston. This is really bizarre. There are three spoof accounts set up on Open Library to push various books, and when I've tried to look into some of the contemporary figures...they all seem to trace back either to social media or to web sites that accept user submissions; press releases and the like. For all of his apparently rich social media presence, I'm not sure the late Mr. Fitzgerald nor his sometime friends exist. This has reached Stefan Roberts levels of odd, and I don't think I'm all the way down the rabbit hole yet. Choess (talk) 03:01, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
THX4th@! Things are rolling now! I must admit, checking that Zoransky articles when they came out on German Wikipedia was quite an enjoyable detective work! Its even more enjoyable when success stands at the end of the effort! THX again for your help! (^_^) LagondaDK (talk) 09:29, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

At the other end of the political spectrum, Polly Toynbee was at Oxford with mediocre qualifications. Admittedly, she was not an Old Etonian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.210.234.24 (talk) 07:53, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Maybe you should look for independent reliable sources that have significant coverage of the Sporting Third, which is a slightly similar topic, so that you could create an article about it. The practice didn't survive into the 21st century, though.
For what it's worth, according to our article Prince Charles, he also left Cambridge with mediocre qualifications, never mind arriving with them. What we call a "Desmond", for reasons you can probably work out. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 16:34, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Interesting exchange

The exchange between you and Eric on Jimbo's page was interesting. Like you, when I first read Monty post, I thought the point was that he had never seen instances of the first case. The construction of Eric's answer using the phrase "[p]erhaps you've not seen it" sounds like a response to that assertion. I agree with you that it was imperfect wording, which could be misinterpreted. You believed you were providing a service by pointing out the potential for misunderstanding. In addition, and I applaud this, rather than assume that Eric misread, you write it as a conditional.

So far, so good.

Eric's answer is interesting. He gives an examples of an unwanted sexual advance on Wikipedia. He doesn't say whether there were swift and severe sanctions; can we presume not? If he is simply giving an example of the first case, and silent on the sanctions (or lack thereof) it might be read as a response to the misreading, but it could be read as an example of the first case (and not necessary to explain there were no sanctions, because the example wouldn't make sense to bring up if there were). So it could be read as responding to the complete point. However, when you suggested he might be mistaken, he stated, quite politely, that he was not. No over-reaction to being false accused, just a simple statement.

Then you responded, "Indeed. That would be unthinkable." Five ordinary words, none of which could possibly make it onto a List_Of_Prohibited_Words, nor do they qualify, in my opinion, as a personal attack, but, again IMO, they cross a boundary into incivility. I'll bet a beer he wouldn't want sanctions for such small beer, but it does illustrate a point he has made, and many miss - it is possible to be incivil without using a certain subset of words.

For what it is worth, I'm not looking for you to do anything. However, I had just read, minutes before, Jytdog's interesting point about how hard civility enforcement is, and it was interesting to see a clear example soon thereafter. Eric didn't take offense, but had he, it might had gone pear-shaped, and I suggest it would be difficult for readers to figure out who started it.

There are positives to be taken from this exchange. As I mentioned, I like that you didn't simply assume that Eric was wrong and coached your response carefully. I like that he didn't fly off the handle and accuse you of accusing him of misreading (an error that would not be a big deal for many, but I'll wager is a bigger deal for Eric.) I like how he responded in a jocular way, suggesting that you were violating civility rules without being a jerk about it. I'm happy that two editors managed to walk away without it blowing up. Yet there is still the interesting example illustrating the Sisyphean challenge any group asked to police incivility would face. (I'm deliberately not pinging the other parties mentioned because I'm not approaching this as a dispute needing resolution, I think it is settled, but I found it fascinating, and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.)--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:37, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Salvage the sinking ship - Halo Business Intelligence

Demiurge1000, I hope you're having a good Tuesday. Something unfortunate has been brought to my attention. I created the Halo Business Intelligence page without having a personal connection with the company. And now, other users have made changes without my knowing and now it is now being considered for deletion. C:Fred had helped me create Halo BI's page and he approved my initial unbias creation. Can I revert the changes that other users have made and salvage this mess? I still have the basic layout saved in my sandbox.

Daniel Bachar (talk) 17:34, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure User:C.Fred has approved any specific version of that article, nor commented on the notability of the company. He may well choose to comment at the articles for deletion discussion. As may you, of course.
I am also not sure that reverting to a previous version of the article would help? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:48, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 18

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ragyndrudis Codex, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Minuscule. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Oathed (talk) 04:45, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Forums and random people's blogs are not considered reliable sources for Wikipedia, especially when adding controversial claims about a living person. Further, if someone's LinkedIn lists their current occupation as "Writer at Games Workshop", that is certainly not a source suitable for justifying a claim that the person no longer works for Games Workshop. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:58, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

John Dewey Academy

What sources would be appropriate? If a respected newspaper is not sufficient, how would I obtain a citable source that confirms his criminal record and that of a child being born between a therapist of the school and her patient? This is a small thing to some, but to others this is an important topic that needs to be addressed or we find ourselves enabling history to be re-written. I look forward to solving this problem and thank you for your help! Troutbum898 (talk) 21:06, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Kumioko

You might want to change the bolded part of your comment from Support to Oppose, given that Support is being used by those who wish to retain the ban, and closers are often very lazy at !vote counting :-) Black Kite (talk) 17:50, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

They count !votes ?!? That's naughty! Perhaps it's even a symptom of the problems that Kumioko mentions! But thank you, I'll give it some thought.
More importantly, is the shade of green appropriate? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 18:04, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
Wouldn't be my choice, I'd go for a darker shade. More gravitas. Black Kite (talk) 19:23, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Kumioko AN

Re Kumioko - most editors are using Support to mean support continuation of the ban. You used the word, but with the opposite meaning. While I hope a careful closer will catch the difference, optics matter and someone just glancing down the screen will see you in the wrong category. Please consider amending the wording.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:19, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

(Guess I should have read the post above first :)--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:23, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
In this case there will not just be a careful closer, but, apparently, an entire team of careful closers! That's how important Kumioko has become to the operation of this wiki - no expense spared.
Also, see section immediately above this.
Also, there's another section much further above this, that you went to some trouble writing, which I read with interest, found useful, and do intend to write a similarly detailed reply to. My best intentions have often fallen through, though, especially regarding my talkpage. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:27, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

BLP Issue

Good evening, Demiurge1000. Having been away for a while from any computer screen other than that on my phone I've been unable to properly write until now, but wanted to express my gratitude for the contribution you made at the Charles Shoebridge page, especially for the fact that you obviously took time to familiarise yourself with relevant subject material beforehand and then took positive steps to put matters right. I note incidentally your comments here on your user page in respect of articles about living persons, and it's good to know there are experienced Wikipedia editors who understand the real harm and distress that ill founded or inappropriate content on BLP pages can cause.

In respect of this, I've placed some notes on the Charles Shoebridge talk page which I'd be very grateful for your taking a look at and, as I'm apparently unable to do so, taking any action you think appropriate. Many thanks for this, and best wishes UK1000 (talk) 18:27, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

PS For some reason my UK1000 password is now being rejected by Wikipedia login. I therefore have a new username, which is UKL1000. Many thanks again, and best wishes. UKL1000 (talk) 02:47, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
