WikiCup 2022 November newsletter
The 2022 WikiCup has drawn to a close with the final round going down to the wire. The 2022 champion is
Lee Vilenski (1752 points), who won in 2020 and was runner up in both 2019 and last year. In the final round he achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on cue sports. He was closely followed by
Bloom6132 (1732), who specialised in "In the news" items and DYKs, and who has reached the final round of the Cup for the past three years. Next was
BennyOnTheLoose (1238), another cue sports enthusiast, also interested in songs, followed by
Muboshgu (1082), an "In the news" contributor, a seasoned contestant who first took part in the Cup ten years ago. Other finalists were
Sammi Brie (930), who scored with a featured article, good articles and DYKs on TV and radio stations,
Kavyansh.Singh (370), who created various articles on famous Americans, including an FA on Louis H. Bean, famed for his prediction of election outcomes. Next was
PCN02WPS (292), who scored with good articles and DYKs on sporting and other topics and
Z1720 (25) who had DYKs on various topics including historic Canadians.
During the WikiCup, contestants achieved 37 featured articles, 349 good articles, 360 featured article reviews, 683 good article reviews and 480 In the news items, so Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors. Well done everyone! All those who reached the final round will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or the overall leader in this field.
- Lee Vilenski wins the featured article prize, for a total of 6 FAs during the course of the competition and 3 in the final round.
- Kavyansh.Singh wins the featured list prize, for 3 FLs in round 2.
Adam Cuerden wins the featured picture prize, for 39 FPs during the competition.- Z1720 wins the featured article reviewer prize, for 35 FARs in round 4.
Epicgenius wins the good article prize, for 32 GAs in round 1.
SounderBruce wins the featured topic prize, for 4 FT articles in round 1.- Lee Vilenski wins the good topic prize, for 34 GT articles in round 5.
- Sammi Brie wins the good article reviewer prize, for 71 GARs overall.
- Sammi Brie wins the Did you know prize, for 30 DYKs in round 3 and 106 overall.

Titling thoughts
Hi, Drmies-- can't edit your talk page because of page protection so perhaps a ping here will suffice-- and any TPS that may see this. I just created 1839 Marion riot, and I'm relatively happy with the content, but I don't think the title is completely correct-- while contemporary sources frequently described it as a riot, I'm not convinced that does it justice, but not sure what a better title would be. I don't think there's enough actual biographical info to title it 'Bill Mitchell'. Any thoughts? Eddie891 Talk Work 14:49, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

- Hi Eddie--sorry, I forgot. I read the article last week, but not the sources, and now I have. That account from the Anderson book, what a story. I agree that naming it for the person is probably not the best move here. "Trial of" would be kind of silly. Contemporaries have it as "riot", as you noted, but Harrold has it too and Hudson has nothing to suggest a change. I say go with it. God there are so many stories still to write up, aren't there. - Thanks for having a look, @Drmies. It really doesn't stop. I was just reading "Bloody Caddo": White Violence against Blacks in a Louisiana Parish, 1865-1876 and it is simply horrifying.
On October 1, a band of some 75 whites from Shreveport on its way to the scene of the Bossier riot met a group of nine blacks who were taken to the bank of the Red River and told to swim for their lives. As they rose to the surface after having plunged in the river, the blacks were shot. Not one of them escaped. On the same night, thirty blacks were taken from around Shreveport, marched to the bank of the Red River, tied together with ropes and shot in the back. During the following days, a raft of swollen bodies drifted down the turbid river until the bodies were eaten by alligators. Few days later, seven blacks were chained in an old abandoned building which was then burned to the ground. On October 12, a group of whites went to the Johnson's brick-yard and took five blacks away from their work. After tying their hands, they riddled them with bullets.

You deleted the SPEED II article
What a waste of people's time guys like you are. Why not try to improve the article if you feel it's insufficient? SPEED II was a widely used software development back in 80s and early 90s. Trying to find info about it nowadays is very difficult. No independent sources, no assertion of notability.
All articles on Wikipedia must meet the notability guideline, meaning they have significant coverage in independent, reliable sources (such as, a profile in The New York Times or an entry in The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction). Other measures of importance, such as how widely used a software was or wasn't are hard to quantify without coverage that backs it up. Unfortunately, if coverage does not exist, an article is not merited (this is basically because we need enough verifiable content to write a substantive encyclopedic article). If you disagree with the deletion, you are welcome to request a refund, through which the article will be restored. Happy to try to explain further, if this doesn't make sense. - Sorry guys, I had forgotten about that reply I wrote to MrOllie - I didn't have the time or energy at that time to engage, so the article got deleted. I still think deletionists are completely in the wrong on this website, I don't know why I even bother engaging with you. You guys deleted a perfectly good article. For what? I log in to this site a few times a year to find articles I contribute to get deleted. It's so pathetic. But yeah, give me a warning for being nasty, I guess I deserve it. Technical news
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Pages 197-198 of Allen (1997) are available at Google Books. I cut and pasted the URL, but it comes out as "A Reader's Guide to Walt Whitman - Google Books." I don't know if that is helpful. On both pages, Allen refers to "Lilacs" as a "great elegy." I am not going to edit this article; I'm just passing on this information in case you want to. - Hi, @Bona1858, the page was deleted as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Goldberg Segalla, where the consensus was that the topic did not meet the notability guidelines for corporations, which requires articles to have received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. If you think there are three or more sources meeting this criteria that the AfD voters did not consider, I'd be happy to consider restoring the page. Unfortunately, if that coverage does not exist there cannot be an article about the subject on WikipediaI'd also recommend reading this guide to editing with a conflict of interest before going any further. - Per WP:AUD, I think the buffalo sources would fall under local coverage. Additionally, sources establishing notability should offer in-depth coverage beyond simply routine announcements and brief mentions. The corporation notability guideline specifically states that coverage of things like "the opening or closing of local branches, franchises, or shops" [1] or "the hiring, promotion, or departure of personnel,"[2] do not count as significant coverage to establish notability. If you feel there is some aspect of the sourcing that I am missing, do let me know. Many of the links in the deleted article return as 404s for me, so I can't actually read the content. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. Would you be able to skim through something for me?
I just wrote up Macks Creek Law, which relates to controversial stuff such as police ticketing, municipal courts, the Ferguson unrest, and a guy who's now senator-elect. Since its only truly controversial subject I've ever written on (Battle of Poison Spring kinda?), I was wondering if I could get some people to read over it. New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello Eddie891,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.

Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

I'm hoping to send Walt Whitman's lectures on Abraham Lincoln to FAC soon this year, just needs one or two more solid copyedits but I think most of the content is there. I'm actually an undergrad at Cornell University (studying history), so some of these articles align pretty well with what I do in classes. 1839 Marion riot originated as a paper from a history class, in fact, and the re-write of O Captain! But do not fool yourself into thinking that the professionals, by which I mean administrators, are going to care for this--I'm going to stop putting my Wikipedia work on my professional reports since administrators don't understand and/or don't care. I'm working on a little something that (on his suggestion) I'm going to try and get published in the Alabama Review, and then I'll put a watered-down version on Wikipedia. - Hi, Canton Viaduct, without being able to see what you have on your account, it is hard to say definitely what the cause is. I would suggest going to Special:Preferences and under the 'gadget' tab click to enable "Syntax highlighter", which might be similar to what you're looking for. - Law.com doesn't seem to be selective in its coverage (instead indiscriminately covering all law firms), so I wouldn't say that that is indicative of notability. The second and fourth links you provide seem to be relatively routine coverage that does not meet the WP:CORPDEPTH threshold (if you look at the "Examples of trivial coverage" subsection, it specifically lists mentions "of the hiring, promotion, or departure of personnel," and "of the opening or closing of local branches, franchises, or shops." Particularly the fourth article barely seems to qualify as independent reporting-- nothing against Alex Wolf, but it looks like he basically just repeated everything that the company told him. The third link is an interview with an employee of the law firm, which is not independent and therefore not indicative of notability. I don't personally see those sources as being enough (the corporation notability guideline specifically asks for multiple high quality sources contributing to notability). - The Vector 2022 skin has become the default for desktop users of the English Wikipedia.
Arbitration
- The arbitration case Armenia-Azerbaijan 3 has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 24 February 2023.
- In December, the contentious topics procedure was adopted which replaces the former discretionary sanctions system. The contentious topics procedure is now in effect following an initial implementation period. There is a detailed summary of the changes and administrator instructions for the new procedure. The arbitration clerk team are taking suggestions, concerns, and unresolved questions about this new system at their noticeboard.

Some of my earliest work, and I think the lack of experience for me shows in the quality. Upon further inspection of Kennedy, the chapter in question is actually written by Shea, so the reliance on a single author is quite bad. I've since acquired several works that include content about Prairie Grove that could be used to fix it, but I'm busy with work and struggling with ongoing depression and post-COVID fatigue to the extent that I just don't have the energy to be able to confidently say I can resolve the issues quickly. I won't be offended at all if this goes to GAR. Just one request - if you GAR it, please leave a notice on my talk page. It might be able to attract some fixing-up attention.
Heck, 2nd and 6th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Consolidated) and 1st and 4th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Consolidated) might need to go, too. As I mature as an editor, I have started to harbor some doubts about the quality of In Deadly Earnest, and that source isn't really replaceable at either of the other works, because I don't know of any other sources that goes into a reasonable level of detail about the units' activities during that time.
Also not happy with my first GA, Battle of Wilson's Creek, as I didn't verify some of the sources to books I didn't have at the time (my current library is decent enough that I could flesh it out sometime, if it weren't for work/depression/exhaustion) and the content could use expansion in some areas. J. Johnston Pettigrew - the Pippen SCV source might need replaced, although I may be colored by experiences with the local SCV's "the South shall rise again" vibes (FWIW, the part of Missouri I'm from is a neo-Confederate hotbed, so groups like that are probably better elsewhere). The Civil War Roundtable in Springfield is great, though.
Also pinging @Peacemaker67, Harrias, and Gog the Mild: who were reviewers on some of the "early work" of mine I've noted here. I think everything else I've produced is either in excellent shape or could be brought up to snuff easily. I've been too tired to start new content work for most of the last month, and I don't see things getting better in the near future (I'm going to have a one-way 1.5 hour commute back and forth from the client site for probably almost all of next week, and a lot of the other weeks coming up ain't much better). Again, I just ask that any GARs get a notice at WT:MILHIST and my talk page; maybe somebody will show up and help me out like happened at the GAR for batted ball. - Oddly, I have just had a similar experience. Constantine III (Western Roman emperor) was my 18th GAN, some time before I nominated my first FAC. I always wanted to come back to it and see if it had FAC potential. Earlier this year I did. I was taken aback at how poor it was - still is, just look at it! It took me forever to dig out and then dig through some proper sources and effectively rewrite the article. It is currently going through an informal PR in a sandbox before being moved into main space, see here. I strongly suspect that the previous 17 GANs were just as whince-worthy, but I feel no great need to confirm this. It was, I think, a necessary part of "learning the trade". I believe I did learn from them, or I would not be looking back at them now with such concern. And, I suspect, similarly for you. It is part of the process; if we were not so self critical we would be worse content creators, but this can, I think, be overdone. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:24, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.- Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. - 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Hi Eddie! checking with you about my OTD questions. Philip Zimbardo is one of the most famous psychologists in history and will be 90 years old on March 23. Two questions: 1. Is his notability and 90th worthy of inclusion in OTD? 2. Is the existing quality of the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Zimbardo good enough?
if the quality is not yet good enough, What specifically needs to be better before March 22? I know Zimbardo personally, so want to acknowledge my connection - i wont change the article myself, but have other wiki-friends who have offered to help if you can give us any list of what needs to be fixed. - Hi @DrMel: That would be a great article to feature on the birth section of OTD, and I'd be happy to swap it in! He's definitely worth inclusion. Right now, the problem is the big orange tag at the top of the article that says "This article needs additional citations for verification." The article cannot run on the main page until that tag is resolved. Basically, every statement in the article needs to have a citation. So, scrolling through the article, you can see unsourced sentences like:
- "In February 2010, Zimbardo was a guest presenter at the Science of a Meaningful Life seminar: Goodness, Evil, and Everyday Heroism, along with Greater Good Science Center Executive Director Dacher Keltner."
- or
- "In 1971, Zimbardo accepted a tenured position as professor of psychology at Stanford University. With a government grant from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, he conducted the Stanford prison study in which male college students were selected (from an applicant pool of 75)."
- Those need to be cited to reliable sources or removed. Also, I cannot verify his birth date in the source provided for it, so that would need to be cited as well. Otherwise, I think the article could definitely be run, though there is other cleanup possible. Hopefully that is helpful-- let me know if you have any other questions! - Actually, @Kting97, I'll leave my comments here: It seems like you have done a very good job reviewing this article. You looked at the prose, citation formatting, image layout. I honestly think that this is pretty much exactly what we want a good article review to look like. The one thing I'd suggest is to specify under sourcing if you have (and in this review it looks like you have) checked some of the sourcing to make sure it verifies what it is supposed to and that the text is not too closely paraphrased from the original. You may find one of these templates useful so you can highlight which criteria have (and haven't) been checked. I've added the review to my watchlist and will follow along as epicgenius responds, but this looks like a very well-done review, and my main advice would be to keep doing what you're doing! I have seen far worse good article reviews from far more experienced editors. Happy to answer any specific questions that may come up, now or later. - Hi, I can inform whomever it may concern that I have not been paid in any of the edits I do on Wikipedia. The article was deleted per the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MicroVision, Inc., where the consensus was that the article did not meet the notability guideline for corporations. If you feel that there are independent, in depth and reliable sources that establish notability that the discussion did not consider, please let me know and I would be more than happy to re-open it. If you believe you're an active contributor to Wikipedia It is easy to find valid information on a company like Microvision and correct what you feel is the shortcomings of their wiki page. Wikipedia also has notability policies that determine whether a subject is notable enough for an article. Namely, the topic must have been the subject of multiple in-depth pieces of coverage. There is a higher threshold for companies, which applies to Microvision. Something being verifiable does not equal notability. - Additionally, the onus is not on the person removing content to supply a "reliable replacement source", it is on those adding the information (or wishing to re-add it)

- If you read @Jogurney's comment, they seem to feel that the case for notability is not particularly strong, but indicate an intent to comment later, saying "I'll see if I can find something else." I read that as "Here's a comment, I intend to look further into this. As that was only one day before I looked at the discussion, I opted to relist to give Jogurney a chance to do so, if they wanted. I would have done the same if there were primarily 'delete' votes, and one user commented "I might be able to find something" shortly before the discussion closed. This is to request you to undelete the article 'Akhilesh Sheshmani Dubey.' I was aware of the Deletion nomination and was under talks with the individual who nominated it to move it back to userspace if I was allowed to do so while the article was still nominated. Moreover, I was monitoring the talk page as well but it did not have any discussions going on. The Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—will take place this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. Page deletion question
Eddie891,
I have had a Wikipedia page for many years. I did not set up this page, but I did add a photo to it some time ago. Today, I was notified that it was deleted! (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sophie Chiche).
After reading the deletion comments and doing some research, it appears that the reason for deletion is that the biography and other sections on my page were too "thin" and lacked substance. In no way was my intent for this page to be a "promo."
This topic (Wikipedia content standards and deletion) is brand new to me. I am happy to dig deeper into these standards and provide relevant content that matches Wikipedia's requirements. What is the best way to re-activate the page and make the required updates? Or is it better to start a new page entirely? Alternately, is it better to have someone else create the page?

- Hi @Sophiechiche, the main issue here is that of notability. Wikipedia requires that the topics of articles have significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources. Many, in fact most, people do not meet this requirement, and as such don't have Wikipedia articles. Do you have that? Let me know which sources you feel meet this requirement. If there are enough, I'd be willing to restore this page to a draft that you could work on. The other issue was that of self-promotion, which Wikipedia is not the place for. I'd recommend reading the guide to editing with a conflict of interest. The wikipedia Women in Red project may help you with rewriting the promotion, if you are notable. Basically, it's not a great idea to, but if you intend to, you should be transparent with your editing. Happy to look over any sourcing or answer any further questions. WikiCup 2023 May newsletter
The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:
- Iazyges (1040) with three FAs on Byzantine emperors, and lots of bonus points.
- Unlimitedlead (847), with three FAs on ancient history, one GA and nine reviews.
- Epicgenius (636), a WikiCup veteran, with one FA on the New Amsterdam Theatre, four GAs and eleven DYKs
BennyOnTheLoose (553), a seasoned competitor, with one FA on snooker, six GAs and seven reviews.- FrB.TG (525), with one FA, a Lady Gaga song and a mass of bonus points.
Other notable performances were put in by Sammi Brie, Thebiguglyalien, 
MyCatIsAChonk, PCN02WPS, and 
AirshipJungleman29.
So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

Guideline and policy news
- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
Technical news
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
Arbitration
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
Miscellaneous
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

The winners of the 2023 The Core Contest are announced 🎉. We had an amazing set of improvements this year, and the judges (Femke, Aza24 and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.
- First place goes to Buidhe for improving The Holocaust; very core, highly relevant; their work on bringing geographical balance to the article puts the topic in a whole different light. We also commend improvements to sourcing and prose

WikiCup 2023 July newsletter
The third round of the 2023 WikiCup has come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 175 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
Thebiguglyalien, with 919 points from a featured article on Frances Cleveland as well as five good articles and many reviews,- Unlimitedlead, with 862 points from a high-scoring featured articles on Henry II of England and numerous reviews,
- Iazyges, with 560 points from a high-scoring featured article on Tiberius III.
Contestants achieved 11 featured articles, 2 featured lists, 47 good articles, 72 featured or good article reviews, over 100 DYKs and 40 ITN appearances. As always, any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. - A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that
[s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment

- Hi, @Feyquin, I'm not familiar with the theory, but I'd say you need to supply a more independent source than you currently use to suggest that SENS is no longer a fringe idea. Your current source website advocates heavily for SENS and seems to have ties to a/several foundations that do work relating to the therapies, and can't be considered independent information. Women in Green GA Editathon October 2023 - Around the World in 31 Days

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Admin Access for James Naleski

- Hi, @JoeK2033, creation of the page has been restricted because the article was repeatedly recreated after being deleted for not meeting wikipedia's notability guidelines, specifically those for musicians. First you have to consider, has the situation changed? Has this figure received substantial coverage in reliable sources? Then, you should make a case (probably here first) that this is the case, and an administrator may remove the requirement, which would allow others to create the article. I'd suggest reading the following information on removing 'salting' of article creation: Editors wishing to re-create a salted title with appropriate content should either contact an administrator (preferably the protecting administrator), file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection § Current requests for reduction in protection level, or use the deletion review process. To make a convincing case for re-creation, it is helpful to show a draft version of the intended article when filing a request. Happy to discuss further if you have other/similar questions. - Hi, @Ajaber333. First of all, it's not a great idea to write the article of someone you know, *especially* if they have asked you to do it-- have a read of our conflict of interest guidelines, and consider that if your professor is notable enough for an article (specifically, if they meet the notability guidelines for professors), sooner or later someone will create it.
- If you still want to create the article, you first need to make sure that this figure meets a notability guideline (which I've linked above). For professors, we have the following criteria that can be indicative of notability:
- The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources.
- The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level.
- The person has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Physics).
- The person's academic work has made a significant impact in the area of higher education, affecting a substantial number of academic institutions.
- The person has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research, or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon.
- The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society.
- The person has had a substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity.
- The person has been the head or chief editor of a major, well-established academic journal in their subject area.
- Does this professor meet any of these?

- Also, I wouldn't recommend just plugging in a professor's CV to their wikipedia article, but if you wanted to create an article, you could definitely use that as a source. You should look for other reliable sources that offer substantive coverage of the professor and/or their work. For information on the fundamentals of article writing, I would have a read of this page, and you can also look at articles of similar professors for ideas. Does that help a bit?
