David M. Cote Article[edit]

Thank you for contacting me regarding the David M. Cote article. I unfortunately don't have a whole lot of experience with that article other than the addition of three categories relevant to his birthplace, current resident, and political affiliation to the article, and two those were added back in March, 2013 while I was conducting a research project in which his name came up in passing. I am however willing to help you in any way I can, but I would suggest contacting any other Wikipedian who has made significant contributions to that article for more assistance. --TommyBoy (talk) 05:37, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TommyBoy, I appreciate your candor about your lack of experience with the article. At this point in time, I'm trying to start building some consensus about the draft in general, so any feedback you can offer would be greatly appreciated. If you don't mind and have the time, could you look at the draft and leave any comments on Talk:David M. Cote? I'm reaching out to other editors as well, but the more feedback I get, the better. Thanks for the quick response! --FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:37, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You could add a "personal life" section. Is he married? Does he have any children? Another suggestion would be to add a "philanthropy" section after career, before personal life, if he has made any charitable contributions to non-profit organizations, or sits on any charitable boards...most CEOs do, both for the tax breaks and PR.Zigzig20s (talk) 06:00, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Solid advice from Zigzig20s. Reaching out to others for support is a great idea. Wikipedia's business coverage is patchy, and always in need of neutral, critical editors. One needs to be alert to spin and puffery inserted by PR companies and other company shills. Much of it is fairly blatant, but they are getting more subtle. In adding to (or creating) articles, always add a reference, especially for anything that might reasonably be seen as contentious, particularly for living people. Edwardx (talk) 11:51, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice Zigzig20s and Edwardx! As far as I know, Cote doesn't have any philanthropic ventures, nor does he sit on any charitable boards, but I will look into creating a "personal life" section. (Well-referenced, of course!) --FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:21, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, FacultiesIntact. I looked at the article as it exists today. It isn't bad at all! It definitely is NPOV and if anything, elicits my empathy over Jamie Dimon's criticism of Coates, post JP Morgan CIO debacle. That is among my criteria for BLP and bio article neutrality. Specifically, unsympathetic and easily disliked individuals should be portrayed with (truthful) balance. I'll make a few minor edits, try to add additional content to the Coates article next week. --FeralOink (talk) 17:31, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AIG Article[edit]

Hey FacultiesIntact, Thank you for contacting me about the AIG article. It might take a while for me to get it done. I took a brief look at both English and Japanese articles, but what is it that you're trying to translate? In the Japanese version of the article, there's already a brief section on history of the company and a subsection on the subprime loan conundrum, as well as their current business in Japan. Decafespresso (talk) 20:05, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you pointed out, yes, the Japanese article definitely needs updating. I think I can translate it within a month or so. Thank you so much again! Decafespresso (talk) 03:55, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi FacultiesIntact,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I've updated the infobox and the lead section in the Japanese version of the AIG article. Thanks! Decafespresso (talk) 06:28, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AIG edit[edit]

Hey, FacultiesIntact, got your message regarding the latest AIG figures - I see no reason why I shouldn't if it's in the interest of keeping all up to date and transparent! I'll get round to it asap. All the best, Gerard de Ridefort (talk) 08:22, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Are you still looking for a mentor? @BusterD: originally mentored me years ago under the expectation - I believe - that I would mentor someone else in-turn. However, so far whenever I try to help a paid editor, it seems to be a waste of time. They don't continue editing in order to implement the advice - at least not from that account. I think @Smartse: (if it was him?) said he's had similar experiences when trying to invest in honing paid editors into useful contributors.

I've authored more than 30+ Good Article-ranked corporate pages, which I'm pretty sure makes me Wikipedia's most prolific author of ranked corporate content. So I'm exceptionally qualified. Since I have experience as a paid editor, I can also provide better business/client management advice than editors with no paid experiences.

Part of the reason you caught my attention was because I saw that you had AIG as a client. I don't remember the details, but a long time ago I provided some consulting regarding their representation on Wikipedia and I felt it was one of those exceptions where COI participation made sense. CorporateM (Talk) 00:43, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you are here just to make a quick buck, then nobody will be able to help you adequately. If on the other hand you are honestly trying to go about doing paid editing in a way which is not only correct and ethical but also generous and eloquent, I highly recommend an association with User:CorporateM. I can say without reservation that CM is a long time wikipedian, fully committed to building the world's best online encyclopedia. He happens to do so on behalf of paying clients, though he often brings his abilities to bear helping other types of subject pages to be improved. I can think of nobody as well respected or better qualified to demonstrate and teach this special form of contribution to Wikipedia. Such training will likely require a lot of boring repetitive tasks, a willingness to work outside your comfort area, a developing rapport with suspicious (and often vastly experienced) contrarians, and a boldness in communicating exactly what the limits of using the encyclopedia might be to the corporate client. Further, if you complete the mentorship, I'd encourage you later in your wikicareer to be willing to help another editor (paid or otherwise) become a better Wikipedia contributor. As a public relations professional, CorporateM is ideally suited to inspire ethical engagement in the commons-based peer production work environment. BusterD (talk) 03:07, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@BusterD: Remind me to keep you in mind if I ever need a letter of recommendation ;-) CorporateM (Talk) 03:35, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @CorporateM:. Sorry for taking so long to respond to your offer, but I thought it worth taking careful consideration. While I’m quite grateful for your offer of mentorship, I don’t really see a way in which you can advocate for me without incurring a new conflict of interest. I don’t think it would be in either of our best interests to pursue a formal relationship, and as such, I’m afraid I must decline your offer to formally mentor me. That said, I have a sincere respect for your work in the community as both a volunteer and paid editor. I would be very appreciative if we could leave the door open for me to seek your advice in the future (and vice versa, should the occasion arise).--FacultiesIntact (talk) 18:10, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I was only ever offering advice, as oppose to advocacy and my advice is available to anyone that asks for it anyway. Cheers. CorporateM (Talk) 18:21, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake, I thought you were offering mentorship along the lines of WP:COOP. In any case, I appreciate the offer and will certainly keep you in mind when I'm looking for guidance.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 00:57, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Honeywell draft[edit]

No objections for five days, I'm thinking we can go ahead with this? §FreeRangeFrogcroak 20:13, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@FreeRangeFrog: I'm inclined to agree, but I'll defer to your judgment. I wouldn't want to invite controversy because of my COI.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 21:21, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Terms of Use[edit]

On your Userpage, you say you "declare projects on which I have COI below" and that "Transparency is incredibly important to me." I don't see a list there that complies with the Terms of Use, where you declare your "client, employer, and affiliation" for each paid edit. Please provide a disclosure on your Userpage that complies with the Terms of Use. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 10:44, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reply? Jytdog (talk) 00:00, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jytdog, sorry for my delayed response; I was away for the holiday weekend. I’ve since updated my userpage to comply with the ToU. It has never been my intention to deceive my fellow editors about my work or aims. Clearly I am still learning to navigate the waters of Wikipedia.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:40, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply! Several things.
  • First and most important one. The 2nd paragraph of your Userpage, that you created in this diff, is marketing material. In my view you need to change that to make it a very simple disclosure. "I am contractor for StellaResults, a PR firm. The list of articles that StellaResults has me working on, on behalf of their clients, is below, along with a clear disclosure of who the client is for each of those articles." (please do not link to StellaResults). Please remove all the marketing language around that. If you don't, I will mark your Userpage for speedy deletion per WP:UP#PROMO, and an admin will judge. I would rather not go there but if we disagree, that is how to resolve it.
  • Second, the Terms of Use require employer, client, and affiliation. It is not clear who the client is, for each of the articles you have listed. Who is the client for Smart Grid in China, for example? You must disclose this.
  • Third, please get in the habit of disclosing your COI on the Talk page of the articles you draft, so that reviewers are aware. I have gone ahead and added the disclosure to each of those Talk pages.
Please do clean up your Userpage, and please disclose the clients for each article. Thanks. I do appreciate that you want to do the right thing and want to be fully transparent. It takes some work to get used to this place. Jytdog (talk) 00:38, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As I said I would do above, in this section, in this dif, the 2nd paragraph advertises your paid editing service and is not appropriate for a Userpage.

A tag has been placed on User:FacultiesIntact requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Jytdog (talk) 16:11, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note, RHaworth removed the speedy delete tag with edit note: "Far from deleting, this page should be preserved even if the user gets blocked as evidence to support Jytdog's future actions (if any)." This was not contesting the problem with advertising, but rather from a desire to retain evidence that editors who are not administrators can still see (admins can see deleted pages; other editors cannot). FacultiesIntact, please do remove the advertising from your Userpage and retain a simple disclosure of your conflict of interest. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 13:56, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Terms of Use - last effort[edit]

Above in this section on Sept 2, I called your attention to the fact that despite your claims to transparency you are not complying with the Terms of Use. The ToU require that you disclose employer/client/affiliation. You have disclosed employer (StellaResults) but not the client for each article. I do not want to create drama and would rather work with people, but if you do not complete the disclosure, I will bring a COIN tomorrow which will likely lead to you being indefinitely blocked for violating the Terms of Use. Jytdog (talk) 16:17, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jytdog, I would appreciate some patience on this matter. I thought we were seeing eye to eye earlier this week, when I made a concerted effort to make good on my claims of transparency and comply with the ToU. I would just appreciate some time to ensure that I can do right by both the clients I represent and the Wikipedia community.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 23:42, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It was a week ago and you have made several other edits since then. Compliance with the terms of use is a prerequisite for your presence here (for anyone's presence here) at all and you should make coming into compliance your first priority. Especially since transparency is of such high value to you. Likewise, please remove the advertising from your Userpage. I will wait to bring the COIN case til Sunday. Please note that any agreements between you and StellaResults or between StellaResults and clients are not relevant - if there are confidentiality provisions in them that prevent you from complying, then you need to delete the work you have done here, because client confidentiality is not an option. So - please disclose the clients or self-delete the sandboxes where you cannot disclose by Sunday. The template you would use for deletion is {{db-self}}. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Jytdog (talk) 12:32, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jytdog, I understand the gravity of the situation. Complying with the ToU is my top priority. I have ceased my edits in mainspace, and will have my userpage compliant by Wednesday 16 Sep.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 23:08, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wednesday it is. Thanks for replying. Jytdog (talk) 01:56, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jytdog I've updated my userpage again, and I believe it now complies with the ToU. I would also like to clarify that I don't work for a PR firm, which I included on my userpage. Thank you for your patience and help through all of this.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 20:22, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clients[edit]

Hi FacultiesIntact, I've been adding the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template to some of the talk pages you've been involved in. I'd like to check before I go any further that the box on your user page lists the clients. I'm basing this on your comment: "I'm contracted by StellaResults, a small firm that specializes in helping our clients (listed to the right) ...," but I want to make sure that I haven't misunderstood. Many thanks, Sarah (talk) 05:29, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SlimVirgin, thanks for your help in tagging my work. I don't think I realized there was a separate connected contributor template explicitly for paid work. I've since updated my userpage so that it's clear which pages I'm working on for which clients. I'm going to doublecheck all the articles I've worked on so far to make sure they're properly tagged, but would you mind editing the templates you've placed so far? StellaResults is a consulting firm, not a PR firm. It's a minor distinction, but an important one. Thanks again, and let me know if there's anything else I can do to help out!--FacultiesIntact (talk) 20:30, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:FacultiesIntact/sandbox/David M. Cote, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". February 2016[edit]

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence User talk: Silver seren. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. Assurant article[edit]

Hi - I saw your note about Assurant. I didn't read the Supreme Court ruling in as much detail as you, but one thing concerns me. In the version you wrote versus the one I wrote, one can't tell why the Supreme Court ruled against the company. It wasn't for the automatic reviews, as far as I can tell, but because they were sloppy, according to Reuters. That info should be there somehow, right? Otherwise, readers won't understand what the basis of the ruling was.Timtempleton (talk) 21:05, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Timtempleton: Sorry for the late reply, I've been out of town and away from my computer for a while. Regarding your comment, I hadn't realized that about the version I drafted. I suspect I spent too much time looking over the ruling and got a little too close to it. That said, it seemed like the consensus was to quote the ruling verbatim. Would you be willing to work on something together to find that middle ground? Also, if you're up for it, could you help me update the annual financial figures in the infobox? The current numbers are reflected in my sandbox. Thanks!--FacultiesIntact (talk) 23:02, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure - no problem - give me a day. I'll add the revenue and tighten up the sourcing. Your sandbox still has the old 2014 ref name, and I'll include both the 2015 and 2014 numbers. After that, I'll look at the case detail.Timtempleton (talk) 01:15, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the financial numbers, and tightened up the sourcing. I also made a minor edit to the Assurant Health section about the divestiture, and in the process removed two sources, one of which was talking about HSAs only, not the Assurant Health insurance business that is the focus of the section. I didn't replace the verbiage about the Supreme Court ruling with your text, despite the suggestion to include the Supreme Court's actual ruling. I read them side by side and honestly am not really sure that the newer text actually improves the article. What inaccuracy are you specifically trying to fix?Timtempleton (talk) 20:53, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtempleton: First of all, thanks for updating the numbers and sourcing. As for the inaccuracy that I'm trying to fix, it's the ambiguity of the language regarding the findings of the court. The court found the Assurant handled this particular case wrong, but the Reuters article is the source stating that "As in that case, their insurance policies often were canceled on incorrect information, flimsy evidence, or for no reason at all." By citing the court ruling verbatim, and following it with the paraphrased information from Reuters, I think it clears up any ambiguity about attributing the information to its correct source. I made an edit to my sandbox version that includes the line I quoted from the current Assurant entry. Does it read better to you that way?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 07:32, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Revisited and reread the info and still have some concerns. The current version says

In court proceedings, it was revealed that the company's policy was to target every policyholder recently diagnosed with HIV for an automatic fraud investigation, as the company searched for any reason to revoke their policy. As in that case, their insurance policies often were canceled on incorrect information, flimsy evidence, or for no reason at all.

The version you are proposing says this

Six months after the court decision, Reuters reported that Fortis had a company policy to target every recently diagnosed HIV-positive policyholder for an automatic fraud investigation for a pretext to rescind their policy, according to undisclosed records. As in that case, their insurance policies often were canceled on incorrect information, flimsy evidence, or for no reason at all.

It seems that your version ignores the court's ruling, instead attributing the details of wrongdoing to a Reuters investigation. But in the same source used for the info, the company's own spokesperson Peter Duckler says

"We disagree with certain of the court's characterizations of Assurant Health's policies and procedures in the Mitchell case. The case continues to progress through the appellate process."

Your version makes it unclear which characterizations Assurant is disagreeing with. Obviously the court ruled something, regardless of whether or not that info is in the formal statement you included. The final version should also explain why they ruled against the company, which is what the current version does better. I'm not seeing any factual inaccuracies and will have to defer doing anything for now.Timtempleton (talk) 19:31, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtempleton: I'm not trying to ignore the court ruling. On the contrary, it is only the Reuters article that makes comments about "insurance policies [that] often were canceled on incorrect information, flimsy evidence, or for no reason at all." All in all, I'm trying to provide a clear and concise summary of the events while drawing on the resources available, and I don't think the characterizations made by the court nor Duckler's disagreement is particularly relevant. The actual court ruling only comments on Mitchell's case. From the Reuters article: "Previously undisclosed records from Mitchell's case reveal that Fortis had a company policy of targeting policyholders with HIV." The problem here is that the Reuters article doesn't distinguish what these "undisclosed records" are, and to directly connect it back to the court's decision would be a violation of WP:SYNTH. In my reading of the decision, the court didn't rule against Fortis because of the company policy, they ruled against them because the "erroneosuly-dated intake note" was a trivial mistake by the plaintiff's doctor, and could be categorized, as Reuters later described it, as "incorrect information" or "flimsy evidence" for canceling such a policy. The details of the case go on, but it all hinges on the central fact that Fortis used this intake note as an excuse to rescind the policy. I'm not trying to obscure information, but I think that readers that are more interested in the details of the case would go on to read the decision and Reuters article. All of that said (and thank you for bearing with me) I think a simple fix is to add the actual verdict to the beginning of the section. Reuters summarized it nicely as "wrongly revoking his heath insurance policy." I've updated my sandbox accordingly. Would you mind taking a look?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 21:35, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm responding to your request on my talk page. I've taken a look at your sandbox version, and I rather like it. It provides the exact verdict, verbatim, from the primary source, and then uses the Reuters report to give context and explain that primary source. It makes things a lot clearer... basically, the court found that there was a flimsy pretext to cancel the policy, and reuters explains that the reason there was a flimsy pretext is that all HIV patients were audited in this manner. I have a question though: does the phrase "six months after the verdict" accurately imply that Reuters did a followup investigation and found that after the court ruling, the policy was still in place? Or is the six months coincidental, and Reuters basically waited 6 months before reporting on the court case? Fieari (talk) 23:56, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@FacultiesIntact: Sorry for not responding earlier. I somehow missed your previous ping, but saw the last one pointing out that I had not responded. I get your point on WP:SYNTH, so unless there's a clear source that says the reason the Court ruled that the company was wrong was that the evidence was too flimsy, your version is fine.Timtempleton (talk) 14:47, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Fieari: thanks for taking a look. As far as I can tell, the Reuters article wasn't a followup, it was just published 6 months after the court decision. Does the way it's written suggest that? I included it because I felt it helped differentiate the sources, not to suggest that the policy was ongoing. Do you have any suggestions on how to clarify this?
Yeah, I think it really does imply a followup investigation. I'd leave out the "6 months later" part altogether, and just say that Reuter's report on the ruling stated, or something to that effect. The 6 months part doesn't really add anything, and if REALLY necessary to someone's research, the date is on the citation. Fieari (talk) 23:44, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Fieari: I went ahead and made your recommended change to clear up the ambiguity. If there aren't any other edits you'd suggest, would you mind updating the article? I'm avoiding directly editing the article due to my COI.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 18:40, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, done. I think this is a great improvement for the article. Thanks for all the work you put into it! Fieari (talk) 02:02, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtempleton: no worries. I've really appreciated all your help on this, and I'm glad you're still looped in.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 16:41, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings and...[edit]

Greetings FacultiesIntact! Thank you for your note. While it's true that I'm a relatively fluent Spanish speaker, I'm afraid that statement must be taken quite literally, since my writing skills in that language nowhere near match my speaking skills. That's one of the main reasons I spend most of my time at Wikipedia in Spanish just doing basic maintenance rather than creating new articles. The other important reason is that I don't actually like translating and am well aware of the fact that translation —especially that of a formal nature for an encyclopedia— should always be done towards the mother tongue. That said, I'd be happy to sort of just pick out certain aspects from the original articles and incorporate them into the es:wp version, in which case, you're welcome to propose stuff you consider particularly relevant. If you really prefer a full-blown translation, I can ask around and look for other editors you can contact and who are more into translating than wot I is. Regards, --Technopat (talk) 08:31, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Technopat: Honestly, I don't think I realized you weren't a native Spanish speaker. Mine's only conversational at best these days. I agree with your sentiment that translation should be done towards the native language, but as we're primarily concerned with the informational content and its availability, I'd love to take you up on your offer. Give me a couple days to pick out the key aspects that should make it into Spanish. Thanks for the help!--FacultiesIntact (talk) 00:06, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Formal mediation has been requested[edit]

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "David M. Cote". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 27 March 2018.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Honeywell May 2018[edit]

Hello, I think you have made a comprehensive but compact list, just a few things, firstly I would add is maybe a few references especially for some of the more generic items such as "First Aid" and also remove the word "Offerings on the headings" for example "Safety offerings" as the offerings bit does make it sound a bit more like an advert.

Hope this is of some help.

Hospital executive BLPs feedback[edit]

I looked at the three articles you had asked about back in February, and I believe they could indeed use improvement. I changed the names of the "Biography" sections. Some of the content could probably use better references, and the sections about scientific contributions should probably be rewritten in terms more understandable by the average person. I recommend reviewing Wikipedia:Manual of style/Embedded lists and also the "recognition" section on Bill Gates's article since it is a GA. PCHS-NJROTC (Messages)Have a blessed day. 23:38, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@PCHS-NJROTC: thanks for taking a look. I think a lot of the changes you proposed were good, and I appreciate you holding BLPs to the appropriate standards when it comes to references. In regards to Craig B. Thompson, could you help me understand your rationale for tagging it as too technical? I worked with another editor who thought the content was good, and while I think the subjects of his research are inherently technical, I disagree that the article itself is written in an overly technical fashion. I can't claim to have any intimate knowledge of cancer biology, and although the terms were at first foreign to me, I think everything reads logically. Could you elucidate your opinion? I'm happy to collaborate on revisions, but I'm not sure how else to clarify the article content.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 17:50, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Make technical articles understandable has relevant information about the technical details of these executives' research. The format of the sections are good, but it would probably be beneficial if someone more familiar with the topics could add a little more information as to the significance of the men's work in a way that is understandable to an average reader. For example, a lay person will probably understand the first sentence of the Research section on Craig B. Thompson's article, but not the rest of it. I'm thinking the section could benefit from a sentence or two in addition to the first sentence, explaining how his research has contributed to the study of immune systems and of cancer, but without removing the technical data. PCHS-NJROTC (Messages)Have a blessed day. 00:18, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PCHS-NJROTC: do you think the addition of this second line suffices? I think it helps clarify the context without going into too much technical detail.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 18:35, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect, I would say. Good job! PCHS-NJROTC (Messages)Have a blessed day. 00:04, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PCHS-NJROTC: Thanks for the positive feedback and your commitment to improving the article! Would you mind adding that sentence in and removing the banner? I avoid directly editing articles where I have a COI.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 23:37, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done! You might want to ask someone from Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography for help bringing them to WP:GA status. My most extensive experience at Wikipedia is largely with articles about institutions, like schools, universities, hospitals (WP:WikiProject Hospitals was actually my idea), major corporations, etc (probably because that's what interests me), though my experience certainly isn't limited to that area only. Honeywell list[edit]

Sorry, FacultiesIntact, but the topic is one that I don't have any real interest in, so I can't see myself putting the required effort into helping create such a list. If you want advice, my best suggestion is to search for more secondary sources on the products. Almost all of the references appear to be primary sources to Honeywell website pages, which likely won't be enough to prove that a list of products and services is notable enough for a separate article. Re: Fix the Debt[edit]

Hi! I took a quick look at your draft, and it seems OK to me. I guess we have a lot more info about that organization now than we did when I just pointed the redir to the bio of its main sponsor. Or, I was just feeling lazy that day and was mainly focused on something else, more likely. Unless you are on some sort of weird article creation probation, I don't see why you shouldn't go ahead and publish your draft to the main space where the redir is now. Let me know if you need any help. -- Kendrick7talk 21:02, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I poked around a bit more and now see where you were worried about a COI. But... meh, plenty of first drafts are written by people with a bias one way or the other and I think it's good that you are being honest and conscientious about it. I've ask for permissions over at AFC and, with any luck, I should be able to get this show on the road in the coming days if I'm not too busy in real life. As the matter of the U.S. public debt and the way it is handled politically is a topic of much discussion, I'm sure any imbalance in the article will get sorted out in due time. -- Kendrick7talk 02:58, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, I got tired of waiting and just went ahead and did the merge manually. Not sure when WP:AfC became such a WP:BUROcracy, but whatever. -- Kendrick7talk 00:26, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I did remove one para already in the Fix the Debt article that wasn't specific to Cote himself. I don't have strong opinions about how the rest should or could get merged. -- Kendrick7talk 22:27, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, no problem - and no problems. :-) If you need more input, I'm available. GregorB (talk) 16:43, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Would you consider Luis A. Diaz? In this case it would be a "natural" disambiguation and thus preferable to parenthetical disambiguation, per WP:NCDAB. GregorB (talk) 23:45, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't familiar with that policy, but I think that's sound logic. Luis A. Diaz should be fine. Thanks again for the help!--FacultiesIntact (talk) 01:36, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Made just a few tweaks to the Simon N. Powell article proper. Is this the target version for the review or is it the sandbox version? GregorB (talk) 19:29, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GregorB: I've got a sandbox with edits here (and a diff here). The things you fixed had caught my eye, but there was a lot of work to be done on the article. Could you take a look at the sandbox and the talk page? I outlined the changes I'm proposing on the talk page, with one of my goals being removing the banner warnings from the article. Do you think the changes are sufficient to take the banners down?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 01:08, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Girl Scout Cookies in sandbox[edit]

Thanks for asking me to comment on your proposed changes to the Girl Scout Cookies article.

Most of the edits look fine, though some of the language is promotional or unsupported. In particular:

  • "as part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program" -- this is the organization's view of things. I don't think that the organization's name of the program is of any interest or relevance to an encyclopedia reader. What is much more relevant is that it is a fundraiser. So I would keep the existing lead sentence.
  • There is no independent source for "The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-run and girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world" -- the USA Today article is quoting a statement by the GSUSA itself, which is obviously self-serving.
  • "The program is designed to be led and conducted by girls and not adult troop leaders, volunteers, or parents." is a verbatim quote of GSUSA statement quoted in the Vanden Brook article, so it is both plagiarism and not an independent source. Also, it is evasive language: what does it mean that it is "designed to be led..."? Is it or isn't it led by the girls?
  • The "Five skills" callout box gives no reference, and seems to take the organization's POV, not a neutral POV. If there is a source for this material, it should either be a quotation box, or be neutralized, e.g., saying "The GSUSA organization claims that the cookie program helps girls develop various useful skills". "that they will use throughout their lives" is just puffery. The "intended to teach" language below is better.
  • (This is in the pre-existing text, but still needs improvement.) "In January 2015, Girl Scouts began to offer customers the ability to purchase cookies with credit or debit cards using an online portal." -- wouldn't it be simpler to say "In January 2015, the GSUSA introduced online ordering." -- why mention the particular modalities of payment?
  • (This is in the pre-existing text, but still needs improvement.) "An iOS and Android mobile app called "Digital Cookie" allowed girls to accept orders on the go. Digital Cookie can only be used by Girl Scouts themselves with parent supervision, and Girl Scouts are able to share an individual link to their online cookie business to friends and family only." This is confusing and unclear, and also mentions too many details: why do we care about the name of this app? Why do we care which OS's it's supported on? Why do we care about the detailed usage rules?
  • "supports valuable leadership experiences" -- puffery

Hope you find this helpful. --Macrakis (talk) 20:53, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

FI, thanks for your note.

  • The source for the claim about "largest girl-run" etc. is a puff-piece article which appears to be repeating the GSUSA line. It would be more honest to simply report that GSUSA claims that.
  • The five skills box should be a direct, attributed quote if it's going to be a box. Otherwise, the claim should be mentioned in-text.
  • "In January 2015, Girl Scouts began to offer customers the ability to purchase cookies using an online portal." Wordy.
  • This is confusing: "A mobile app called "Digital Cookie" allowed girls to accept orders on the go. The app can only be used by Girl Scouts themselves with parent supervision," If they are using it "on the go", how can the parents supervise? Also, why is this in the past tense?
  • Suggested rewrite for the app: "In January 2015, Girl Scouts introduced online sales. Individual scouts can accept orders using an app, and can send links to their online cookie business to friends and family."
  • The online stuff might better be moved to where it already says "Girl Scouts also sell cookies through the Digital Cookie platform."
  • I still think that the name of the app is unnecessary.
  • The Production section repeats info that is in the last paragraph of History.

That's it for now.... --Macrakis (talk) 18:23, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Simon N. Powell[edit]

Sorry for the delay with Simon Powell - unfortunately for the last five days or so I've been either too busy or too tired for non-routine stuff.

I'll presume then that the sandbox has the most up-to-date version of the article and possibly do some minor fixes there (I'll limit myself to citations and other non-prose stuff).

Also, once I review it, I'll remove the COI cleanup tag from the article proper, with a talk page explanation. GregorB (talk) 16:00, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GregorB: Thanks for still taking a look! Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help out!--FacultiesIntact (talk) 00:42, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, sorry for the unplanned delay.

I've reviewed the sandbox version. It's very neat; I cannot fault it. (Just one nitpick: one publication is credited to Xia, F., omitting the rest of the authors, including Powell himself.)

I'd say do go ahead and merge it into article proper (leaving the cleanup tags, presumably). Once this is done, I'll remove the tags and leave a note in the talk page. GregorB (talk) 20:15, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GregorB: It's all good! I appreciate you taking the time regardless. I went ahead and updated that one paper with the remaining co-authors; that was a good catch on your part. Could you merge it into the article proper? I'm refraining due to my COI with MSK.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 21:46, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I could do it in accordance with WP:COIATTRIBUTE, if you agree. Either way, both authorship (yours) and endorsement (mine) should be clear. I'll leave a short review in the talk page one way or the other. GregorB (talk) 08:34, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October![edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need help in finding a book[edit]

Hello. I am searching for the title of a book and I cannot remember it. Could you help? It is a 18th or 19th century book, written in English; the title goes something like "The dialogue between heaven and hell" and it was written by a British man who had visions (I suspect he was mentally ill). The book and its author have a WP article. It is no Between Heaven and Hell (novel).
Thanks in advance! Veverve (talk) 01:17, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service[edit]

Hi FacultiesIntact! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over a year.

In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in two years or more.

You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
  3. Paste {{Frs user|FacultiesIntact|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.

Note that if you had a rename and left your old name subscribed to the FRS, you may be receiving this message on your new username's talk page still. If so, make sure your new account name is subscribed to the FRS, using the same procedure mentioned above.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you!
