A belated welcome!

[edit]
Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Ferrer1965. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Iryna Harpy (talk) 04:46, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Iryna Harpy: Hello dear Iryna, sorry for my late reply and thank-you for your great digital cookies - really delicious ;-) and also thank-you for your great links which I read (and for some - re-read). If ever you plan to travel to Europe and stop in Paris, I would be delighted to invite to taste a local "croissant au chocolat" ;-)

Control copyright icon Hello Ferrer1965, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Sam Parnia has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:43, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help with pinging other editors

[edit]

Hello, Ferrer2965. I've tidied your use of the 'userlinks' template on the Sam Parnia talk page. You can consult with 'Reply to' template directions for instructions on 'how to', or you can simply use {{u|Exampleusername}} to mention the editor you are addressing. Happy editing! --Iryna Harpy (talk) 21:20, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Iryna Harpy: very kind of you ! though I am not sure what mistake I was doing before (?) Any page page that you advise me to read to understand what I was doing wrong? Also any pages you advise me to read with more useful tips and tricks? Have a nice day in sunny Australia ;-) Ferrer1965 (talk) 03:43, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! You were using the userlinks template by invoking {{userlinks|Exampleusername}}. You can see the changes per this diff. Using my own user name, this is what comes up when using 'userlinks':
Iryna Harpy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
Using the reply to parameter, this is what shows up:
@Iryna Harpy:
Using a 'ping' this is what comes up:
@Iryna Harpy:
As regards useful quick tips, I'm afraid that the Policies and guidelines is really the best starting point. There are all sorts of tutorials to be found linked from there. You can also type "Help:" into the search box at the top right-hand side of this, any any, page which will produce a list of help topics. I'll post a full greeting message to the top of the page where you'll find the 5 pillars of editing and where else to get help from. If you need further assistance, you can ping me. Hope this helps. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 04:44, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war notice

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Sam Parnia. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

I opened a Talk page section here yesterday. Come and talk. Jytdog (talk) 19:02, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jytdog: Hello I am replying to you on the talk page - Cheers Ferrer1965 (talk) 19:20, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Talk?

[edit]

I see you are a science-based biz dev person like me. I think I understand what you want to accomplish here and I understand the challenges you are facing. Would you like to chat a bit so I can help you get what you want? You just need some more grounding in how this place works -- on the content policies and guidelines. We can do that here, or via gchat if you like. Jytdog (talk) 20:18, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jytdog: Hi - okay no problem. Let's chat. Am not sure what gchat is but if you explain I will try to use it. Cheers Ferrer1965 (talk) 05:41, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for replying! wasn't sure if i had abrased you too much. about gchat, if you use gmail, it has a chat feature. we could also talk on google voice which is more efficient. or we go back and forth in this environment, whatever you like! Jytdog (talk) 06:03, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jytdog: Contact me via user page and we will exchange E-mails okay? I am free tomorrow and Sunday. Am based in Paris - regarding the "abrased" part, frankly I do not care - however regarding the page I do care. So start writing clear suggestions for improvement/modifications on the talk page even if in terse style. The rest you will share over hangout or skype - okay with you? cheers Ferrer1965 (talk) 12:41, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

just emailed you. if you look at the section on the talk page where i moved the content, i was pretty specific. if you don't understand what i meant, please ask! the main thing is the secondary sources. i can talk with you about that a bit. if you want an elaborate written description, please see my userpage where i go on (and on) about secondary sources being the foundation of this place. Jytdog (talk) 12:45, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jytdog: Okay no problem, I will read both your talk page + primary/secondary/tertiary sources Wikipedia rules - cheers Ferrer1965 (talk) 12:49, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war warning

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Sam Parnia shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
