Semi-protection issue

Hi - Based on advice given, I have initiated a discussion on the semi-protection issue at the village pump. Your opinion, now over the broader topic and not just India, will be most valuable. Shiva (Visnu) 09:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Image permission problem with Image:Barcamp chennai.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Barcamp chennai.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vinhtantran (talk) 03:57, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Restoration of images

Hi! I faced an incident with a fellow Wikipedian on November 16. I got pissed off after this incident and requested the deletion of around 10-15 public domain images that I had uploaded. All those images were tagged between 4 PM and 11 PM IST on November 16. Now that the issue has been sorted out, I request the restoration of the images. Could you please oblige? :-) Thanks-RavichandarMy coffee shop 10:58, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia Indian music - Cleanup listing

Hi. Would you be the person, or one of the persons who would run the process to generate the cleanup listing? If so, can we have this run once a month or once in two months at least? Since it is a long while since it was run, probably the next run can it be done soon. Thanks. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 16:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Masulaport.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Masulaport.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Trust Wiki

It has occoured to me that many persons do not trust Wikipedia due to the fact that anyone can edit it. I think we should advertise that we constantly chech sources and cites. Many people think that we do not have the capeablilty to check all edits. We should allow the general public to know of our technologies to prevent and reverse vandalisim and the punishments of offenders. We are not trusted by all but I believe in Wikipedia to make it happen. Someone could start a project to do these things.

P.S. Pass this message to every single wikipedia user starting with the project council. I have chosen you for the "G" section. Please pass it on to all members under "G" on the project council. And reply on my talk page.

Election results templates

Hi Ganeshk. Noticed your further comments on Aditya.Krishnan.82's talk. I had made the nominations, after moving the data to sub-pages in some cases and in other cases just substituted them. 2 questions that you can help with (a) are sub-pages are good way, when some piece of information is used in 2 or 3 or very low number of pages and (b) are these level of details appropriate for Wikipedia in first place. Your comments here, or at Wikiproject India Noticeboard would be helpful. Thanks. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 16:59, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Your comment at the INB

I've responded to your comment. The FritzpollBot discussion specifically gives us no mandate to create stubs of locations en masse. I have quoted the relevant portion of the consensus at the INB Fritzpoll (talk) 08:32, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

On coordinates for Indian Locations

Hi Ganesh! I am a Wikipedia enthusiast, and am currently working in filling in coordinates for several missing towns and cities. I began with Madhya Pradesh, and my aim is to minimize and eventually eliminate Category:Madhya_Pradesh_location_articles_needing_coordinates. I wanted to know how you undertake the task of finding coordinates. Currently, I have a small hack which uses geopy to use the Yahoo! Maps API and spit out the lat and long in the infobox notation. If you have a better idea, or if I can be of help to you, please do let me know via my talk page. Thanks!

Reg. coordinates

Hey! Thanks for the information on the coordinates thing. But I am not going to use a bot, since I am of the opinion that the amount of manual supervision needed to check what I enter would prevent me from effectively using a bot. I'll just use a bot at my machine, and make the changes manually. Thanks! Kumar Appaiah (talk) 22:37, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Masulaandcambay.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Masulaandcambay.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:11, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
