Slant downgraded Patti's album

I also realized that. I was pretty surprise too, if you read the review, it's totally a 5, or 4.5. I don't know what happened, i listened some samples, and so far it's a terrific album, especially if you compare to her last one. It was a tough act to follow, and she did. I'm pretty sure they downgraded now, but until the end of the year, it will be one of their favorite records, at least inside the country/folk/americana field. Are you a Patti fan ? I'm sorry if you not. Eguinho (talk) 16:17, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I think so. The style section got to me a bit because it uses so many foreign words, but I don't know what you could do about it since it's an Indian player with an Indian instrument playing Indian music. --PresN 15:22, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: Sharma

I have moved the page according to his official site http://www.santoor.com/ . I researched and found out that Pandit can both be a name and a title (like "master"). So after all, if you are sure Pandit does not belong to his Name, shouldn't he be listed as "Pandit Shiv Kumar"? (E-Kartoffel (talk) 14:15, 29 January 2010 (UTC))

Question on Copyright problems with File:Roy-Morales.jpg

Hekerui you made me a note that this picture was under copyright violation, even though the picture was taken originaly from http://roymorales.com/media/ where it said that the fotos were under public domain (unfortunately the site is down now). I found another one at http://www.flickr.com/photos/eschipul/3503001189/ but the problem I have is that that one is under CC Share Alike V2.0 and when I try to upload it the only option I have is CCSA3. Can you guide me on this one? Thanks.. MarianoL (talk) 20:50, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Concerning the translation of Ram Narayan. I translated the lead so that it went beyond just two sentences. It's a very nice article, and I would enjoy to translating it in full, but I'm just too tied up with other things right now. If you can't find anyone else to translate to Swedish, try nudging me in a few months and I might have more time to spare.

February GA Sweeps update

Progress as of January 2010

Thanks to everyone's efforts to the GA Sweeps process, we are currently over 95% done with around 130 articles left to be swept! Currently there are over 50 members participating in Sweeps, that averages out to about 3 articles per person! If each member reviews an article once a week this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. At that point, awards will be handed out to reviewers. Per my message last month, although we did not review 100 articles last month, I still made a donation of $90 (we had 90 reviews completed/initiated) to Wikipedia Forever on behalf of all GA Sweeps reviewers. I would like to thank everyone's efforts for last month, and ask for additional effort this month so we can be finished. I know you have to be sick of seeing these updates (as well as Sweeps itself) by now, so please do consider reviewing a few articles if you haven't reviewed in a while. If you have any questions about reviews or Sweeps let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 02:33, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Help w/ U.S. marijuana maps

Hi there! I notice you frequently contribute to and discuss the same-sex marriage map of the United States. I am continually impressed with how up-to-date that map remains, and how much activity the talk page receives. I am finding it difficult to keep the three U.S. maps relating to marijuana found here up to date, so I was wondering if you might take a look and perhaps even add the images to your watchlist. I tried updating this one over at Commons, but the image has not updated yet (see NJ here). I am not sure if you have an interest in the legal status of cannabis or not, but I could sure use some help with keep the maps current. If interested, take a look! Thanks! --Another Believer (Talk) 18:51, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. I sent messages to several users, so hopefully I can get together a good group of people to monitor these maps and keep them up to date. Take care! --Another Believer (Talk) 20:37, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Things get deleted from the Commons for no reason. I don't trust it. I want to take Icke to FAC at some point, so I need to know things are stable. SlimVirgin TALK contribs 23:51, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

I've seen images be deleted before with OTRS tickets, which is why I prefer that local copies be kept. I don't have time to watch images on two websites. SlimVirgin TALK contribs 00:01, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be difficult, but the Commons seems to be such a mess. Images that clearly aren't PD are tagged as if they are. Images that clearly are PD are deleted because someone doesn't like them or misreads the tag. I've had so much extra work caused by having to reupload images that someone has moved, and then they disappear, and the article is left with a red link but no one notices, and so on. It got to the point where I just had enough, so if I know I'm taking an article to FAC, I try to make sure I have local copies of its images. SlimVirgin TALK contribs 00:19, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Feel free to move images to Commons as you see fit, assuming they are freely licensed and the licenses will stand up to scrutiny. It's a common image repository for all projects. Then choose to honor, or not honor requests to leave copies behind as you see fit as well. It's certainly polite to do so, and I honor politely worded requests from people who have a history of consistently working collegially with others. YMMV. ++Lar: t/c 15:38, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

GA Sweeps Completed!

Thanks to everyone's amazing efforts in February, we have reviewed all of the articles and are now finished with Sweeps! There are still about 30 articles currently on hold, and once those reviews are completed, I will send you a final message about Sweeps process stats including the total number of articles that were passed and failed. If you have one of these open reviews, be sure to update your count when the review is completed so I can compile the stats. You can except to receive your award for reviewing within the next week or two. Although the majority of the editors did not start Sweeps at the beginning in August 2007 (myself included), over 50 editors have all come together to complete a monumental task and improve many articles in the process. I commend you for sticking with this often challenging task and strengthening the integrity of the GA WikiProject as well as the GAs themselves. I invite you to take a break from reviewing (don't want you to burn out!) and then consider returning/starting to review GANs and/or contribute to GAR reviews. With your assistance, we can help bring the backlog down to a manageable level and help inspire more editors to improve articles to higher classes and consider reviewing themselves. Again, thank you for putting up with difficult reviews, unhappy editors, numerous spam messages from me, and taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Thanks and request

First, my heartfelt thanks for restoring the image of Michael Foot to its original state. Second, you might wish to give your opinion here. With kind regards, --BF 21:41, 4 March 2010 (UTC).

Incidentally, you might like to look into the image of Michael Foot anew; the problem seems far from resolved. --BF 22:28, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your message. I have already spent far too much time on the issue, so that I shall not take any further action. J Milburn's argument is faulty: one cannot remove an image on the possibility of the events that may or may not take place in the future; the relevant question is whether my copyright statement is incorrect at the time being, and the answer to this is clearly in the negative (at least Milburn has not come up with a free image of Michael Foot, thereby showing that my copyright statement were invalid) so that the image must stay. I have argued, but to no avail, that when a free image turns up (there is no a priori reason why a free image should at all become available at any foreseeable time from now), that event renders my present copyright statement invalid, at which instance the present image must be replaced by the available free image. At present no law is violated, so that there is no reason why the image should be removed. But I have said this many times, and unless User:Stifle takes a firm action, I am afraid that the image will be removed because someone has put his heart into removing it. From the legal perspective, the action by Milburn can be likened with putting an innocent person in prison on the suspicion that that person may break a law in future, which of course is what fascist states do as a matter of course. Milburn has incidentally put his heart into removing the image of Ebrahim Pourdavoud, even though there is no reason for doing so; the image has a perfectly valid copyright statement and there is no reason to believe that the person who has made it public might have unlawfully appropriated it. Above all, Pourdavoud is not a sexy celebrity whose photograph would be worth anything from the commercial perspective (he is also long dead --- his daughter was in her eighties when I saw her for the last several years ago, so that there is also no one who would have any interest, commercial or otherwise, in keeping the photograph at issue from public domain). Kind regards, --BF 03:01, 7 March 2010 (UTC).

Article history note

Hi Hekerui, Thanks very much for your note. You were quick off the mark. I've noted your changes.

I seldom read the documentation for the {{ArticleHistory}} template, I don't find it too helpful. I just tend to copy, paste and update the last one that I entered. At one time I started getting template error messages, but I couldn't work out what was causing them - but missing out the (UTC) from the time stamp helped. I see for your latest change that its a date stamp rather than the time stamp that is to be used. Pyrotec (talk) 10:58, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Santa Muerte

Thanks for the suggestion. Its nice to know that folks like my work. About a year ago, I nominated some articles for good article status and even got one Mexico City Cathedral there. However, I found the process to be a royal pain in the ass (excuse my French) as I had to do a lot of little editing work (hard spaces, measurement conversions, and a whole lot more), taking a couple of weeks before I finally stopped getting objections. Im more about content than editing, and rather spend that time expanding the large number of really bad articles about Mexico. I can work on getting 3-5 articles to where you see Santa Muerte is now in the time it took to get one to good status. Dont worry about suggesting... we all get a voice around here!Thelmadatter (talk) 01:48, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Photographs of Mayors of Hamilton

I contacted the City of Hamilton back in 2007 regarding the photos of Mayors of Hamilton after the City itself uploaded the picture of the current Mayor Fred Eisenberger. They stated then, and emailed wikipedia that any image on the city's website of a former mayor could be used. I do not have that email anymore as it was almost 3 years ago but the images are public domain as they were done by the Government of Hamilton for the official portraits.

Re File:TWGTT-Haas-&-Benjamin-Postmatch,-RLA-Melb-10.11.2007.jpg

Hi, thanks for the note. I see they've deleted a couple of my files off commons due to this (without any warning there I may add). I don't guess you'd know what's happened to the licensing I had? All these files had licensing, and now the licensing seems to have disappeared. There seems to be a few others of the same vintage with the same problem, though others are unaffected. Strange. --jjron (talk) 17:04, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I fixed up the licensing on a few others that I found that were lacking the licensing, but no idea if I've got them all. As best I can tell somehow some of my images were missed when they did 'the big license migration' a year or so back on Commons, and for some reason were just left without a license. Not sure why the ones deleted popped up as lacking licenses when others had the same problem but were left alone, just 'luck' I guess as to who saw them. Have also noticed now that some of these images are being used pretty widely on other Wikipedia projects, so if they get deleted I have a bit of an idea where to readd them here, but they would unfortunately be lost from those other projects. Anyway, will just have to keep a watch out. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 09:32, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
