Speedy deletion nomination of Public Commercial Assets[edit]

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Public Commercial Assets for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Concerns on the articles you've been making[edit]

I've looked at two articles that you've recently created, The Public Wealth of Nations and Public Commercial Assets, and noticed that they consist primarily of material that's been copied and pasted from other, copyrighted sources. This is problematic due to American copyright laws, and is apt to lead to at least large portions of that material being removed from the article, and quite possible the deletion of the article as a whole. (I suggest you review our essay on copying text from other sources.) In addition, your source for large chunks of The Public Wealth of Nations seems to have been the promotional website for that book, which should also be a red flag for you; the goal of Wikipedia (to provide neutral information) and of a promotional page are profoundly different. Wikipedia is not here to hype the material. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Dag Detter 2.jpg[edit]

For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted content borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Holly: you state on my talk page that the photo "doesn't have any rights attached", but under modern copyright law, rights exist in the work from the moment of creation and need to be specifically ceded. As reproducing copyrighted work can had legal implications, I'm sure you can understand that we need something more than a you-say-Dag-said-his-partner-said-it-was-okay permission (and, frankly, this becomes even more of a concern given the false claim of copyright in the BBC frame capture and the false claim that Dag was the creator of the image in the current photo.) The best way to handle this is to have the partner themselves upload the file onto either Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons (which may be easier to navigate if the person does not speak English), where they can accurately claim that the photo is their own work.
Having said that: your edits on Wikipedia seem to be focused on this one book and its authors, have a promotional tone to them, and you appear to be in direct contact with one of the subjects. I recommend that you review our guidelines on conflict-of-interest editing, consider whether you have the sort of conflict described there, and if so, a) announce that conflict and b) start editing in the appropriate manner indicated by those guidelines.

Just in case Diannaa is not watching this talk page: Hollyeighteen, if you have submitted valid permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, you should add the template {{OTRS pending}} to the file pages of each image mentioned in the email. This alerts both other users and OTRS admins to the pending status, and can avoid repeated deletion attempts. There is likely a backlog, as OTRS (just like Wikipedia) is a volunteer system, but you should receive a confirmation within a few days, and a request for more info if needed. --Animalparty! Legatum Institute[edit]

Holly:

I saw you object to the Legatum Institute link on the Dag Detter page, saying that it was not the right Legatum. Looking at the website you linked to and the fullness of the Legatum wikipage, it appears that it is the same group; the firm in Abu Dabai funds the institute, and the Institute and its works are covered lower on the firm's page. The article Public wealth of cities has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a promo article sourced to things that predate the book, an article written by the authors of the book, an article written by an author in the pay of the publisher of the book, and the Financial Times article, which is not about the book but has a sentence referencing it and a few sentences that may be derived from it well into the article.

I have been writing the article based somewhat on the page for why nations fail and I'm not sure I see the difference between how that article is occasionally promotional, and my text which i have been trying hard to make as un promotional as possible. Holly, here is one first step for avoiding inserting promotional material into book articles: don't copy and paste the publisher's sales materials into an article. Sales materials are intended to promote the book. In addition, copying such matter is also generally a copyright violation, forbidden on Wikipedia. Given to your history of editing, which is basically exclusively built around these two authors and their works, perhaps you should be asking yourself whether your goal in editing here is to serve Wikipedia, or if your intent is promotional.

Conflict of Interest[edit]

One or more persons with “an undisclosed connection to” Stefan Fölster and Dag Detter are editing the articles about these two people, their book The Public Wealth of Nations, and other articles associated with their work. This is an “apparent COI”. The person or persons are using the accounts Hollyeighteen, Sakakawean, Tigerinthesmoke, and Timeforteapet. As a sanction against this person or persons, I shall

  1. Post this notice on the talk pages of the most important affected articles.
  2. Post a notice on WP:COIN.
  3. Delete most of the contents of these articles, since the users mentioned above use Wikipedia to promote two people and their work in clear breach of rules pertaining to COI.
