Your question on my RfA

[edit]

Has been replied, I'm very flattered that you used it. :) I hope it seems clear enough so that you may understand me as both an editor and a person. Yanksox 16:02, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time

[edit]

There are great game shows on GSN that are part of the 50 Greatest Game Shows category. Some shows that air on that show are shows that are never going to air again. Why are you deleting this article? Someone in the future might want to take a look at it. There are shows in the list that didn't air and people would like to take a look at the shows that didn't air that are on the list. Why is the list considered an article for deletion? - —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.237.218.93 (talkcontribs) . 12:22 23 July 2006 (UTC)

My mistake

[edit]

I was not aware that there was a warning that should have been given for deleting the AfD box. I'm still feeling my way around these sorts of issues. Erechtheus 16:46, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Don't bite newcomers

[edit]

I am sorry that you thought that my manner was uncivil on those pages. In my oppinon, I was not biting them, just strongly giving my oppinon on that page. If I caused any problems by that, please leave a message on my talk page on how I can fix that. But please don't insult me like that because that may make me more angry, so just leave suggetions. Thanks. Kitia 20:42, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help

[edit]

A user e-mailed me after appearing in my local daily newspaper with regards of adding information to the site. I asked for his user name, but declined to give it to me. I have been thinking for days trying to come up with a response to his e-mail:

Hello and thanks for your response. I appreciate your efforts. What would probably help me the most is a step by step approach to adding info. to the web site. I've already registered but the steps to be taken after that were confusing to me.

I'm not a computer expert. I have a lot of information on Ravenna's Quaker Oats including colored photos of old Ravenna Quaker Oats labels. I even have Sanborn insurance maps from the late 1800's showing the exact location of Ravenna's Quaker Oats buildings.

I also have information regarding Chapman Root whose' bottling company, in Terra Haute, Indiana, was the location for the creation of the well known Coca Cola bottle. Chapman Root went to school in Ravenna. I have some photos of him and his plant.

Henry Parsons Crowell, of Quaker Oats fame, was also instrumental in the financial backing of the Moody Bible Institute. Crowell was also instrumental in the creation of the Perfection Stove Company that our grandparents used to warm their homes.

My concern is that I don't want to ruin another person's information but would rather add to or create a new information site. Thanks for your help. If you would care to help with a step by step set of instructions, I would appreciate it.

I was wondering the following:

Where should the user place the information? Should be in a Quaker Oats-related article, or should it be in the Ravenna article? This also may not be suitable for Wikipedia. Furthermore, more information could be added past this.

He claims that he is "no computer expert." How would I go about telling him how to edit information? Seeing as whoever answers this query is used to dealing with new users, I thought I would ask you.

The reason I haven't responded yet is because I don't want to say the wrong thing, and have his edits reverted, and then he would get all discouraged and never contribute again. Any suggestions? Or, is this an inappropriate place for this? Should I ask this elsewhere? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ian Manka Talk to me! 04:09, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the looks of your question, I think it would be best to have you log on to IRC. This way I can get others on #wikipedia-bootcamp to help you in addition to me. This link will direct you to a web based IRC client. This way you don't have to download anything to talk to us! We are waiting for you. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 04:21, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you can't make it to the IRC channel, I think asking on the Help desk would be a good idea. Perhaps a few people can work together to form a response.--Commander Keane 04:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the help desk is the best option, so I'm gonna post it there. Thanks a bunch! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by IanManka (talkcontribs) .

F&A

[edit]

I had noticed your addition, well done. I wasn't aware there was a defeatured mechanism for images, where's that at? And I've decided to archive my talk once a year... although if it get unmanagable, I might do it bi-annually. Up in the air right now. - RoyBoy 800 04:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed the delisting section. Thanks for the heads up. - RoyBoy 800 04:54, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heck no, thx. People have been requesting more analysis for the F&A, so anything is helpful and appreciated. - RoyBoy 800 04:59, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! How is it going with Ace? Sorry about my edit summary with a personal attack. To tell you the truth, I was just plain angry. Do we have to put Ace on the RfC? I will send you an E-mail. Marcus 20:25, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You missed one

[edit]

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Joturner 2 was another unsuccessful RfA with more than 100 support votes. Feel free to check my lists, User:NoSeptember/RfA voting records, on these issues, I have been quite thourough in gathering the data. Perhaps you only consider those that are not withdrawn, but this one was withdrawn based on the fact that it was not going to pass, which is sort of a technicality. Not listing it seems arbitrary to me. Cheers, NoSeptember 08:41, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure, a thanks and a link would be great, I'm always looking to publicize my pages :). I'll be on wikibreak when the next signpost issue comes out btw. Also, my pages are sometimes a week or two behind as I update some pages only about twice a month. Cheers, NoSeptember 18:08, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

OpenWetWare deletion

[edit]

I saw that you deleted the page about OpenWetWare. I have to say that i'm not too aware about Wikipedia's policies, so I can't really be that upset. However, it should be said that I wasn't notified at all. Also, the few people who voted on the deletion were also wrong in a number of their facts. There are definitely more than 66 distinct google hits from openwetware not including self-references. Also, there have been several articles about OpenWetWare, including two in Nature and one in Science (the two leading scientific journals). That being said, I have no idea whether the article should or should not be deleted. I am only pointing out that I would have liked to been notified to better address people's concerns (perhaps to beef up the article) and to say that the people voting were misinformed.

Thanks, --Skosuri 00:29, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ps. I am a member of the Steering Committee of OpenWetWare. I didn't realize that this means I shouldn't contribute. In which case, I have also contributed to the article Synthetic Biology, a field that I have vested interests in promoting (as do most of the other contributors).

Here is a link to some of the press articles about OpenWetWare. (disclosure: also on steering committee, so don't know if this excludes my contribution.) --Jasonk 18:09, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Catch Me When I Fall (song) on deletion review

search highlight summary

[edit]

Zow. Now that's taking me literally! For completism, (mostly just fyi, probably doesnt need to be added to the summary) this was the final remarks between Aude and I in User talk:AudeVivere/Archive3#Snappy.21. --Quiddity·(talk) 07:00, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so very sorry to have to inadvertently caused you to do so much work summarising it. But I really believe that there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of it getting the super-majority-support it would need in order to be accepted. I'd hate for the sidebar redesign to get splintered over this issue. So, can I archive that thread, and like, owe you a beer? ;)
Ahh, I just previewed and (got the orange "new messages" box) saw your new msg at my talk! Yeah, I'm going to archive it right now. Sorry again. (Try out that code to highlight it for yourself though. See my monobook for a few more too). Thanks, --Quiddity·(talk) 00:42, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
