OK, I started a game in the second round. --FeldBum 16:46, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We need to start a third round. You forfeited the second on time as it has been 72 hours. -FeldBum 22:12, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about not messaging you. I'll send you reminders after I guess if 24 hours go by. I started a game and guessed on yours -FeldBum 14:07, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

F&A Admin[edit]

Happy to help, as to Teke, its a tough call as we are suppose to merely report on what happened last week; but at the same time we want the article to be up to date. The fact the actual SP deadline is a little flexible doesn't help. Ultimately its up to the last editor who checks it. - RoyBoy 800 22:30, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost[edit]

No problem. I didn't notice the comment you made after the reversion. — BRIAN0918 • 2006-08-28 23:42Z

Travel[edit]

I've seen that nice "Countries I've visited" box on your userpage. Is there a template I can use to get that easily? - Mgm|(talk) 11:09, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1000 Admins[edit]

I suppose you know that some time this week we will reach a level of 1000 admins. {{NUMBEROFADMINS}} = 859 NoSeptember 00:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

In that respect, did you want to write a full article on hitting 1k admins? If so, feel free; if not, someone else can. It seems like it's worthy of a full article. Ral315 (talk) 20:29, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there going to be a note about #1000 in the signpost? If so, I thought I could link my words in that userbox to it. Thanks. —Xyrael / 10:45, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

> I count 39 former admins on WP:LA and my own page. But then there are also the 3 temporary admins who had rights once, and there are no guarantees that someone hasn't been missed (especially from years ago when it wasn't tracked so closely). It wasn't until May 21 that I realized Eloquence was not listed on WP:BCRAT as a former bureaucrat and added him, I bet there are a few missing admins. If 39 is correct then Wknight94 on July 16 would be the 1000th ever promoted, but that doesn't sound right when we know the three temp admins were promoted at some point, which would make Aldux on July 12 the 1000th. (I use my admincount page plus the log to calculate this) I think just having the note on former admins you have is OK since if we try to be exact we will likely be wrong, I guess you could mention that we passed the 1000 admins ever promoted in mid-July.
> And you can't say that there "were between 35 and 40 admins desysopped" as you have it in the article, because many more admins were also desysopped, and then resysopped later.
> You may want to mention the exact date of the promotion (probably Sept 2nd).
> Since we were at 500 as recently as early July 2005, we doubled them in a bit over a year.
> I like your idea of using one of the admin growth charts in the article. NoSeptember 11:12, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Heh, wow. I'm on the spamlist so I should see it. I'm not sure about a comment yet, perhaps it is indeed better to wait until after the promotion. Thanks. —Xyrael / 19:43, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

> In the Nae'blis sentence I would replace "have been" with "are" (there have been a lot more who are no longer former).
> The exponential growth sentence is opinion and would be hotly debated on WT:RFA, although I agree with you.
> And I would not use a bunch of charts (2 at most), create a new one if need be to show what you really want to show. NoSeptember 23:01, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I'd go more for a general "Wikipedia has grown" message. I'll help out with it a bit later this weekend. Ral315 (talk) 13:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You say that "Nae'blis pointed out..." but you don't say where he said this (just thought this seemed slightly odd). Cheers, NoSeptember 03:39, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
No mention of me is warranted, just feel free to link to my admin project subpages in the future whenever relevant to an article :) NoSeptember 04:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
So Angela, who is a member of the foundation board and a steward, in addition to an en.wiki bureaucrat, did the promotion. That has a good feel to it. This was her first promotion since November 2005, NoSeptember 11:44, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Users write hundreds of excellent comments on talk pages every day, The paragraph with my quote is not all that interesting, and doesn't really need to be said, as it is implied in the previous paragraph. I advise getting rid of it. Thanks for thinking of me though. NoSeptember 02:00, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Well that paragraph says very little about admins, it seems to be a discussion about how good we are at tracking our records - a bit off topic. If you need more to say, you could mention which project has the second highest number of admins, and other trivia like that. NoSeptember 02:38, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
m:List of Wikipedias and m:Administrators of various Wikipedias has admin information. A simple line like "German Wikipedia has the next highest number of admins at 225" would be all one would need to say, no big analysis or anything. NoSeptember 02:48, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Looks fine to me, time to get some fresh eyes on this, others may have better suggestions. NoSeptember 03:06, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp[edit]

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

With new buttons come great responsibility, and I'll try my best to live up to your expectations. If you need assistance with something, don't hesitate to swing by my talk page or email me (trust me, I do respond :)). The same goes for any complaints or comments in regard to my administrative actions. Remember, I'm here for you.

Steve Carell images[edit]

I was wondering why you took the The 40-Year-Old Virgin picture off his page and not the Little Miss Sunshine one. They are both images from films, is there some rule/classification that chooses which one stays? Just want to know for future reference. Thanks. --Nehrams2020 23:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me again, just to let you know, the pictures were readded. I guess you can remove them again and leave details about it on the talk page for Steve Carell. --Nehrams2020 05:04, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder...[edit]

Not sure what the point of your reminder is, perhaps you could give an example of templates where you think I have forgotten to subst, though of course there are also good reasons not to subst and indeed if we wanted to enforce subst we could have the mediawiki software changed to do so on talk pages. --pgk 06:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification, first thing in the morning for me, so my tired eyes didn't see the link (either that or I'm just an idiot, I can think of good arguments for both). That template it quite new so I doubt it's been considered relative to subst. I tend not to subst that one, though I've seen others do so, to me it falls into the whole unblock/unblock reviewed series, which I would suspect could be removed fairly promptly after being dealt with. --pgk 19:37, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Features and admins[edit]

SNL template[edit]

I can already tell, this SNL template is waaaaayyyy too long. A good template gives all the basics of navigating the subject, but it shouldn't try to be an exhaustive list of every SNL-related article. wikipediatrix 22:58, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

F & A[edit]

Thanks. Hope you don't mind me doing your work this week. You can do it next week. :) I'm sort of helping the Signpost in the background, yuh know, doing the articles when needed. Let me know if you ever need any more F & A work done and I can done it. Sugarpinet/c 01:47, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

O.K, we can switch off every week, you get next week, and I'll get the week after. Since I'm a newcomer, I'll need your help finishing up the article. Is this yours or RoyBoy's job? At here it says RoyBoy writes this article but maybe that's not updated. Sugarpinet/c 01:51, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, is your page vandalized often? I just reverted it. O.K, well I've updated the page. And you can do next week and I'll do the week after. But you'll have to help me with stuff..and copyediting because I'm still a newcomer to the signpost. Your contributions look good....I do planning for interwiki btw. That's my job for the Signpost. September Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

F & A[edit]

I've finally decided to leave Wikipedia. If you need help with anymore F & A's you know where to find me, here. I can prepare it there and you can get it from there and bring it to the newsroom. Sugarpinet/c 03:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, were still doing it. Your doing it this week, I'll do it next week. I'll be on simple so you can contact me at my simple talkpage, where I'll do the reports and then take them over to the newsroom. Fine with the idea? Any questions? Sugarpinet/c 03:34, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I'm still contributing but over on simple english. Can you fullprotect all of my user subpages and semi protect my user talkpage as right to vanish? Sugarpinet/c 03:38, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My subpage is only User:Sugarpine/Sandbox, talkpage is User talk:Sugarpine. Can you full-protect without moves, User:Sugarpine/Sandbox, and semi-protect without moves, User talk:Sugarpine? Right to vanish right? Sugarpinet/c 03:40, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hangman Tournament[edit]

Hey there Ian :)

Ehh...for me, I have to go to school during the days, and I am typically bogged down with work for the evenings of weekdays. So weekends are best for me.

P.S.: Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Very impressive... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ditzter4 (talkcontribs) .

Yeah, I know where you're coming from...major procrastinator here! It's really pathetic, actually. I recognize that I procrastinate, yet do nothing about it. As forums staff of a Harry Potter site, I compleyely understand. It's so hard to leave it! Anyway, you can sign me up for the tournament (or I can, whichever!). It would not be too difficult to gte on here for a couple of minutes each day to guess a letter! =P

2006 FIFA World Cup[edit]

Thanks for your response. The discussion and vote I saw were hardly convincing. I personally would like to move the match summaries of the first round back to the main page. Do you think I should just go ahead and do it, or just another discussion? I'm afraid nobody is now paying attention to this page after all the hoopla a few months ago. Simple[edit]

Are you simple's User:IanManka? Netoholic has blocked that account on simple because of fears that it may be ForestH2 impersonating you. Mak (talk) 02:59, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the holder of that account, then do please confirm here. Best way is to add and interwiki "[[simple:User:IanManka]]" to your main page here. I blocked because ForestH2 has a habit of welcoming himself and posting out-of-place messages on his own sockpuppet talk pages. That's how I interpreted simple:Special:Contributions/IanManka. -- Netoholic @ 03:41, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am Simple English's IanManka. I started the account to facilitate F&A Signpost article discussion. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 13:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ForestH2 was up for adminship, when I noticed some users with odd behaviour and patterns. I gave ForestH2 a chance to own up to it, he refused, so I requested a checkuser, which confirmed that a number of accounts were Forest's sockpuppets, being used in violation of policy to support him in his own RfA. It turns out that ForestH2 was also requesting adminship on simple, and also using sockpuppets there. Simple does not have a checkuser, and Netoholic believed that ForestH2 was impersonating your username on simple in order to have another sockpuppet. I asked User:Danny, a steward with cross-wiki checkuser powers, to make sure that simple:User:IanManka was not actually ForestH2 impersonating you, and to see whether info from simple could help confirm that Carmelapple was indeed a sockpuppet, which he did. And so, hopefully Netoholic has unblocked you on simple, as I requested. And hopefully ForestH2 will realise that what he did was foolish and a detriment to the Wiki, will apologize and use only one account. And I think that's the story. Mak (talk) 19:35, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to read Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/ForestH2. -- Netoholic @ 00:23, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
