DPL tool weirdness

Hi, JaGa. I ran across an edit that used the DPL tool that oddly added some random pieces of text to the article as well as fixing the dab link. Checking other (identical) edits, I saw that it did that on other articles, too, but only intermittently. Betty Logan has gone back and cleaned up those mangled edits, but I wonder if it's affecting other users as well. (We had a brief discussion about this, which is where I learned what tool was being used.) Could you check into this, busy as you are? Thanks. — Gorthian (talk) 16:15, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Gorthian: I'm pretty sure that https://tools.wmflabs.org/dplbot/dab_fix_list.php isn't capable of editing anything. Perhaps the editor followed a link to http://dispenser.homenet.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dab_solver.py ? Based on the format of the edit summary, that's what probably did the edit. That tool belongs to User:Dispenser. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 20:06, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
It does generate a list of links with the word "FIX" next to each one. But you're right, clicking on "FIX" takes you to Dispenser's tool. I got confused. Thanks! — Gorthian (talk) 20:14, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Data strangeness

It appears that the data is strange for a few pages. The DPLbot (seen by edits to pages with >30 incoming links, and seen at the Templates with incoming links page is reporting that there are incoming links to pages that don't have any incoming links (the following pages did have incoming links on Saturday, April 30, but they were all fixed that day: (KIFM, Ain't No Way Around It, Mambong, Battle of Al Mukalla, Marudi, Will Johnson, Michael Miller, Richard Gough (footballer), Locale). There are more pages in that should be in this list, but they have a smaller number of incoming links. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 21:31, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

List of schools in India

I'm concerned about a tag on List of schools in India which includes the comment: "This article may need to be rewritten entirely to comply with Wikipedia's quality standards."

This tag has remained for 18 months amidst many improvements in the article. I now find the tag unhelpful. Can you say whether you think this tag must remain and if so what improvements are contemplated, please. I know the list is incomplete, a work in process, but are there any other specific quality standards that it offends against? If not, shouldn't the tag be removed or replaced by a more precise one? I've checked the talk pages on the article but did not find where they address this.Jzsj (talk) 17:43, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

DPL tool: report of edits that fix links to a given dab page?

Hi there, in order to count eligible edits for the monthly DAB challenge leaderboard, your tool seems to track edits that fix links to disambiguation pages. I'm wondering if there's any way to easily get it to list the edits that have fixed links to a given dab page. There's further details in this thread on the project's talk page. Hi, I was wondering if there is some key phrase that should be included in the edit summary for it to count towards the challenge. @Athomeinkobe: JaGa isn't on Wikipedia much these days. You might get the question out to more people if you ask at WP:DPL's talk page. AFAIK, nothing special is needed, but the links do need to be on the "official" list; if they were created since August 1, they won't count. — Gorthian (talk) 22:54, 6 September 2016 (UTC) (talk page stalker)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, JaGa. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi JaGa.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

Flagged edits on Fright Fest

Your Bot wrote: "...when you edited Fright Fest, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages La Ronde and Premier Parks...." As to La Ronde, that was unintentional, and has been fixed, thanks! As to Premier Parks, that was intentional. Premier Parks acquired Six Flags, and took its name (the WP article is Six Flags), however, there is still a new company, Premier Parks LLC involved. This is just a summary, and is actually so complicated it took me a week to figure out. I pointed to the disambiguation page as it makes this simpler for a reader to understand. DPL bot

Hi. It looks like DPL bot is having some sort of issue with Richard Gough (footballer). It's not a disambiguation page any more and nothing in article space links there, but the bot keeps adding {{incoming links}} to it. I think it might have to do with the fact that its talk page redirects to Talk:Richard Gough (disambiguation)? (Come to think of it, that should probably be changed since nothing of consequence links there either.) But anyway, would you mind having a look? Thanks. 786b6364 (talk) 04:44, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Adapting "Articles With Multiple Dablinks" for Bulgarian Wikipedia

Hi, I'm working on the disambiguation stuff on the Bulgarian Wikipedia since about an year. I'm solving the problems by automatically downloading the BG Wiki DB, converting it to MySQL and generating with PHP a wiki table with list of pages that have incorrect links to DAB pages with link to the Dab solver i.e. WikiProject Disambiguation. I saw your tool and I think it will speed up our process a lot. So my question is it possible to adapt it to work with Bulgarian wikipedia as well (I will assist of course) or if this is too much work can you provide me with the code so I can adapt it myself. I already have an account at Wikimedia Tool Labs and I'm a PHP Developer, so it should be pretty easy for me to make it work with our wiki. Regards! --StanProg (talk) 14:54, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Dab link template

Hi. I think your DPL Bot left a template on the Bangladesh page. But the link, http://dispenser.homenet.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dab_solver.py?page=Bangladesh isn't working from where I am at least. How do I remedy all the disambiguation pages? --Fez Cap 12 (talk) 20:02, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

DPLbot - Database connection error

The page is available but isn't updating. It still contains a list of errors found on 21 September, which have been fixed. I am attempting a fix to the "Battle of Al Mukalla" problem by deleting the existing template, creating a new one with the current content (at {{Campaignbox al-Qaeda insurgency in Yemen since 1992}}), and changing all the links to point to the new one. mistake in DAB bot message

The bot left a message on my Talk page:

Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. ...

If you look at the page's edit history, you'll see that

  1. the dablink I left was to Kono, not Lofa, and

@BD2412, R'n'B, and JaGa: Right you are. I obviously missed that one. Liberia has a Lofa County, which has six districts, none of which are named Lofa. So I have to infer that the author/editor who wrote that section confused these two levels of administrative unit, and I've linked to the county page. @BD2412, R'n'B, and JaGa: Each of the counties has a category, which includes all of the districts in it. (I assume that this is correct, as the pages are all structured the same.) To see if there was a Lofa District in some other county, I went to each county category and searched for Lofa (a quick job once I realized I could paste the string into the search field instead of typing it in each time), and none of them has a Lofa District. The closest is a park called Lofa-(something) Park, which wouldn't count. --Thnidu (talk) 03:27, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

While working with https://tools.wmflabs.org/dplbot/disambig_links.php, I found many pages like (ABF (disambiguation) (most of them created by RussBot), which are correctly marked with {{R to disambiguation page}} as intentional links to disambiguation pages. I estimate there are thousands of those, cluttering the list and making for a frustrating experience. Can they be excluded from the list, please? — Sebastian 06:18, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I put the wrong link there. (The page lists link targets, rather than the linking pages.) I meant that the list has many pages like ABF, which are in the list because they have one page with the same name plus " (disambiguation)" linking to them - in this case ABF (disambiguation). (The entry for that page currently shows with https://tools.wmflabs.org/dplbot/disambig_links.php?title=ABF&count=&limit=1&offset=1002, but that will probably change next time the list is recomputed. I see no way to display the actual entry without hard coding an offset which depends on the position in the list.) — Sebastian 06:16, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
ABF does have one incoming link, but it is not ABF (disambiguation) -- it is Merlito Sabillo, which you can see at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere&target=ABF&namespace=0.
