Another DAB Challenge Leaderboard Issue

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but you know what assume does.

The Leaderboard section is reporting the following error:

Database connection error: User 'jason' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 15)

Ulric1313 (talk) 05:47, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, they upgraded PHP to a version that doesn't support the pattern matching used in my scripts. I hope to have it fixed by tonight. --JaGatalk 10:20, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Just checking to be sure you know this: although the database connection error is gone, the Leaderboard still isn't updating (and hasn't since about March 7). I wanna know whether Woohookitty is over 5000 edits yet!  :-) R'n'B (call me Russ) 22:13, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Musicals - primary topic

Thanks for raising the issue at WP:MUSICALS. In the cases where there is a consensus, would you kindly go ahead and make the moves? Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:36, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, I totally overlooked this message! It looks like others have taken care of it. My apologies for the negligence. --JaGatalk 09:41, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Untagged Deadend Pages broken

As of right now, Untagged Deadend Pages has a total of 4 items, even after a refresh. As much as I'd love to believe that's true... :)--Fabrictramp | talk to me 23:31, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Fabrictramp. Updates on the Toolserver have broken my scripts. I'm going to have to rewrite it to get it working again - but I will get it working again! Don't give up on me, this is just a very busy time for me right now. :) --JaGatalk 12:15, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
I can relate. :) Thanks in advance for whatever you can do.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 14:59, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Done at last! deadend pages is up and running again. --JaGatalk 12:17, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Toolserver Pages

All seem to be saying the following:

Unknown database 'u_jason' Database connection error: Unknown database 'u_jason' Ulric1313 (talk) 17:25, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Ergh, Toolserver is killin' me. The error that is causing the dab challenge to fail is causing my database connections to pile up. I checked - the tables are still there, so my schema hasn't been deleted, despite what the error implies. I'll try to get to this, but we just moved to a new apartment (no broadband yet) and I can't access the Toolserver from work. But I'll do what I can. --JaGatalk 09:39, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
OK, should be sorted. Let me know if you see any new problems. --JaGatalk 12:12, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi

Yes, it's been a while. Never enough time to work on all of the projects that you're interested in. J04n(talk page) 21:19, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Wild Horses

Don't you think that making the Rolling Stones song the primary topic shows bias? If it stays at (Rolling Stones song) I'll be more than happy to fix the links. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 19:32, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

<<shrug>> I'd say that is the most famous "version", making it primary. The question boils down to popularity; if most people, when searching for Wild Horses (song), have the Stones' version in mind, the link should go there, with a hatnote for the other versions. Just the other day, someone wanted to point Balzac to a disambig because there's other stuff called Balzac. But since a large number of searches and links are with the intention of finding the author, the author gets primary status - proper bias, I suppose. Now, Wild Horses is much more debatable, and if the status quo stays I won't be upset. Mostly, I hope to see those who boldly move articles clean up after themselves. (I'm not at all worried about you, btw; I've seen you around and know you to be responsible; I only needed to make sure you were aware of the need of cleanup.) --JaGatalk 22:29, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Toolserver questions

Two questions for you...

  1. I've noticed a small bug in recent weeks when working with the uncategorized articles toolserver; what happens is that a vandal blanks all or part of an article, resulting in category removal, and another user or bot reverts — but then, even though the categories are back on the article, it remains listed as uncategorized until another subsequent edit is made to the article after the revert. I have no idea how many articles it ultimately affects, but I've seen it at least four or five times in the past week alone — just as an example, this happened to Aretha Franklin on Saturday, and then Cluebot reverted it, but even after that it remained on the uncategorized articles list until I did a no-change save on the article several hours later. Is that something you're able to fix on the toolserver end, or is it an unavoidable server glitch?
  2. I'm also wondering, is there a way to scan or search the uncategorized articles list for titles which have a specific word in them? For example, as a user who lives in Toronto, I'd sometimes like to be able to scan the list for all titles which have the word "Toronto" (or "Ontario", or "Canada", and on and so forth) in them, so that I can knock off a batch job in AWB whenever possible, instead of having to manually eyeball a list of about 15,000 articles one title at a time. Is there, or could there be in the future, a way to do that?

Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 22:47, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Another example of #1: design was blanked and reverted almost two days ago, and I just force-saved it off the list now. Bearcat (talk) 23:12, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
And Alex Ríos. I promise I'll stop now; you get the idea :-) Bearcat (talk) 00:30, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Ah yes, that bug has been an annoyance to me for a long time. I duly reported it some time ago, and it's been duly ignored. Would you be interested in updating the bug with your findings? You'll have to create an account on the MediaWiki site to get at the bug. Here's the bug report, which you'll see, is exactly what you described; the last update is one of those somewhat condescending "I can't reproduce it so obviously there's no problem" comments. Perhaps a word from you, a different user verifying its continued existence, could get it moving? It would be a service to the wiki, if we could only get the right person to look into it; this doesn't only affect the uncat reports. (BTW, sorry to say, I wouldn't know how to address your request #2). --JaGatalk 20:28, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Update: I was about to update the bug myself, but I can't seem to find a reliable way to reproduce the bug (Not that I'm blanking pages; I'm just finding pages that were blanked and then reverted, and they all have their links intact.) Any thoughts? --JaGatalk 20:12, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

is it possible

is it possible to delete an article "from all visibility"? brad olesen here

back in January you AfD'd an article - rightfully so. not contributed by me i had no idea it was up and I want any record of it deleted

and, can you delete this conversation as well??

Is the page showing up on sites that scrape content from Wikipedia? If so you'll have to wait for them to refresh their content. I would bring the question up at Wikipedia:Help desk; I'm not an administrator and wouldn't have the power to do what you ask, if it's possible. I'll delete this conversation in the next few days if I don't hear from you. --JaGatalk 09:01, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Arno Elias

Hello JaGa. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Arno Elias, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. What happened to http://toolserver.org/~jason/orphaned_images.php ? Did you give up on it or has it been replaced by something else? It is still listed at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media/Great Copyvio Purge. Thanks. ww2censor (talk) 09:45, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Huh, I didn't even know about that page. A change to the Toolserver some time ago broke most of my tools. I've rehabilitated the majority of them, but haven't worked on the Orphaned Images tools because I thought no one was using them. I'll fix it, but it'll be a few weeks before I can get to it - very busy at work right now. --JaGatalk 09:51, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

User Results

What is the criteria used to recognize a disambiguation link fix at your toolserver page? I am curious, because I cleaned up about 500 links to Washington last week, but the disambiguation link fix page shows none. -- JPMcGrath (talk) 19:08, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi JP, it's great to see you contributing to the project! The link fix page only shows fixes done to pages in the monthly list, which is a list of the 500 most-linked disambig pages as of the beginning of each month. Washington was converted into a disambig on May 4, so it wasn't available when the list was generated. Hence no one got credit for those fixes. I wish the list weren't so limited, but I have to do it that way for Toolserver performance reasons. --JaGatalk 19:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
That explains it, I think. I came across a list of top DAB pages with links here, which did contain the Washington page, but the monthly list does not. Is there a reason that the monthly list can't be updated from the other list? — JPMcGrath (talk) 03:58, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
It is updated from the other list, but only on the first of every month. This is the preferred way, as we can set a goal and pursue it through the course of a month. It would feel chaotic if that goal changed daily. --JaGatalk 08:12, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't really sound like a performance issue then. — JPMcGrath (talk) 01:15, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
There are also performance issues, but even if there weren't, I don't think people would want the change. --JaGatalk 08:05, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Toolserver suggestion

An article that has stub categories on it, but isn't in any articlespace categories, is actually considered to be uncategorized for the purposes of Wikipedia categorization. For example, China Stock Index Futures has the stub template on it, with the result that it has a category link on it for Category:China stubs, but since it isn't in any true topic categories it is still considered to be uncategorized.

So, is there a way that we can exclude such articles from the "Categorized articles" toolserver list, and include them in the "Uncategorized articles" list instead? Bearcat (talk) 00:22, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

There should be a way - aren't stub templates normally categorized as such? If so I could key off that. I'll check it out. --JaGatalk 08:06, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Done - and the uncat count has jumped to about 40,000. --JaGatalk 18:26, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:29, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Uncategorized stubs

Thanks for the change. The numbers may look daunting at first glance, but at least it gives us a more honest picture of the problem (and enables us to catch some articles that might never have been repaired otherwise.) I've also been able, so far, to identify about 5,000 articles that could be safely batched into bot jobs because the stub-to-needed-category correspondence was straightforward. I'm confident that over time we'll be able to whittle the list back down to a more manageable number again.

A couple of other questions:

  1. Is there, or could there be, a search tool that could be used to generate a batchlist of all uncategorized articles that have a specific word in their titles? For example, sometimes it would be nice to be able to search through the list for "school", which would generate a list of all uncategorized schools so that they can be dealt with as a batch. Or "Arkansas", or "Las Vegas", and on and so forth.
  2. In the longer term, if you or anyone else who creates toolserver tools would like a new project, it would be useful to have a separate tool that would list all articles which are categorized only by years of life, and don't have any other categories (excluding stubs, of course) on them — for instance, if a person is only categorized in "(Year) births" and "(Year) deaths", or "(Year) births" and "Living people", etc. Such articles aren't considered uncategorized for Wikipedia purposes, but they're not considered properly-categorized either, and generally need to at least have the {{morecat}} template added to them. But I'm just putting that out for consideration in case somebody would like to work on a tool for this purpose; it's not an urgent task and for all I know it may not even be workable.
  3. Another possibility, if it's workable, would be a tool which lists all pages outside of articlespace (talk pages, user pages, sandbox drafts, etc.) which are inappropriately filed in articlespace categories. I come across this problem a lot and would like to find a way to make it easier to fix.

Thanks again. Bearcat (talk) 22:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Bearcat. I'm glad the changes are working out for you. This is becoming a very productive collaboration.
  1. Definitely doable, my only concern is how long the query would take. I'll look into it.
  2. We could do this if we can define a set of "weak" categories. That could be tricky, though. I'm never crazy about hard-coded lists because they require constant maintenance.
  3. Sounds interesting. How would you define "articlespace-only" categories?
--JaGatalk 08:01, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
On the last, a couple of examples would be that a page in userspace should essentially never be filed in any category that doesn't have the words "user" and/or "Wikipedian" in it; a talk page should never be filed in any category that isn't classed as a maintenance category; etc. Bearcat (talk) 01:36, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Wrongful deletion of entry on "The Slap" by Roger McDonald

Dear JaGa,

I am the author ("blueyonhill") of the article on "The Slap" which you deleted from Wikipedia. I am also the author of the novel "The Slap" which the entry described. "The Slap" was published in 1996 but the same title was used by another author in 2008 for a novel, which has either led to some confusion as to the physical reality of "The Slap" or in some peculiar way disqualified the book's factual existence in an on-line encyclopaedia devoted to the tested recording of fact. It may be that there are few references to "The Slap" on the internet, as the internet's role in bibliography and book promotion was minimal in 1996 compared with today. However I assure you that in library holding lists, on bookshop shelves and in the libraries of readers "The Slap" has a verifiable existence.

(----) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blueyonhill (talkcontribs) 22:05, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Roger. I've no doubt the book exists; it simply hasn't garnered the amount of attention necessary to merit inclusion in the wiki per Wikipedia:Notability (books). And the book is mentioned in your own article. --JaGatalk 22:17, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

You can email me at

blueyonhill@skymesh.com.au

--Blueyonhill 22:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blueyonhill (talkcontribs)

The Slap by Roger McDonald

"The Slap" has not won a major literary award, but several of my other books have, which in my reading of Wikipedia's literary guidelines (point 5) means that my article on "The Slap" could be restored on the grounds that "The book's author is so historically significant that any of his or her written works may be considered notable". Historical in this context relates to my long publishing history, the reality of my existence as a writer in the context of current Australian fiction, and not historically notable in any wider sense, I hasten to modestly stress (otherwise 99% of all authors' mentions would be up for erasure). As an aside, I doubt if you would have examined my entry on "The Slap" as closely as you have, if a 2008 author had not used my 1996 title for a similarly themed book that splash-landed in the internet age with attendant connective links, enough to wipe my proud little novel off your map. However, further to those guidelines, I shall in due course (after exhuming several dusty cartons in storage) supply you with a list of book review references from journals and newspapers establishing the priority of "The Slap" and perhaps saving it from Wikipedia oblivion, at least. (I have no doubt it will endure in less virtual contexts)

--Blueyonhill 00:32, 20 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blueyonhill (talkcontribs)

You don't need to get my permission; I just nominated the article for deletion and it was approved. I must say, though, I don't agree with the self-promotion going on here. If the book is truly worthy of its own article, it should be getting created by a person without a personal interest in promoting the book. Now, if you want to re-create the article yourself (or re-create using some other account now that you've revealed your identity), I'm not going to get involved, so you don't have to worry about any further interference from myself. Regardless, I hope you choose to respect our COI policy, now that you're aware of it. Thanks, --JaGatalk 00:51, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

The Slap by Roger McDonald

Apologies, I accept being rapped over the knuckles for self-promotion, an occupational hazard of authors. I do not see myself in that category, being "above that sort of thing", but clearly, from the Wikipedia point of view, can hardly escape the judgment. I don't want to pretend to be someone else, so shall mull over your advice with more understanding and appreciation of Wikipedia's aims, as best I can.

Hi, would you be so kind as to give us support!

Hello, I hope you're doing fine and I sincerely apologize for this intrusion. I've just read your profile and I saw that you're a learned and open-minded person interested in justice and peace so since you support Tibet I think that you understand very well what are a minorized language and culture (even though you can hardly compare because Tibetans have a situation worse than ours...) and maybe I am not bothering you and you will help us... I'm a member of a Catalan association "Amical de la Viquipèdia" which is trying to get some recognition as a Catalan Chapter but this hasn't been approved up to that moment. We would appreciate your support, visible if you stick this on your first page: Wikimedia CAT. Supporting us will be like giving equal opportunity to minorized languages and cultures in the future! Thanks again, keep fighting against injustice and for peace! I wish you a nice, pleasant and warm summer, Capsot (talk) 10:57, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Capsot. Thanks much for the note. I'll look into it; I'll need to understand the pros and cons thoroughly before I give my support to one side or the other. --JaGatalk 11:40, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Importing list of disambiguation pages

I would like to pick your brains as an expert in importing lists of disambiguation pages with links. A list is generated on the toolserver of dab articles with links. This list needs to be imported into a page in the yi Wikipedia. How does one do this? Many thanks. --Redaktor (talk) 04:50, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Well, I'm more of a Toolserver specialist, but I would create a bot that has permissions to edit on that wiki (you'll probably have to have it approved) and then use one of the many frameworks (see the table at the end of the section) to write to your page. Personally, I use SxWiki. --JaGatalk 08:45, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

about Milena (disambiguation)

Hi JaGa

Thank you for your message (see my talk page).

Although your reasons, which are good, I would oppose converting back Milena article. In my opinion personal name like Milena (which became international) is too important to be overshadowed by a small Italian comune. I'm just cleaning up mess with Slavic names and I've alredy had some similar cases (see: Dobromir, Radomir). So please leave the article unchanged (or do something with links).

Thanks in advance and regards!

Moves and User:Schwyz

Hope you don't mind me mentioning the ANI thread. I was going to start an ANI thread purely to get more eyes on it (as the requested moves talk page doesn't get much traffic) and then realised there already was a thread, so it seemed to make sense to combine everything into one place. Dpmuk (talk) 12:07, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Not at all. I was going to post there at first, but they smacked the first guy that did, so I wasn't sure what to do. Like you said, I believe he's in good faith, we just need a review. --JaGatalk 12:51, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Having looked through his talk page I've no realised at least 8 separate editors have raised concerns about their moves. I've raised that point at ANI and we'll see what happens, but at the moment I'm prepared to discuss things with them and wait to see if they do it again. If so I definitely think a new ANI thread will be in order. Dpmuk (talk) 13:00, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Given this edit, what are your views on an WP:RFC/U. Although I find their moves worrying I find their lack of willingness to discuss them even more so. They've accused me of harassment and ordered me of their talk page and now accused you of a personal attack (completely unwarranted in my opinion - you were just raising a reasonable concern). They seem to have a very weird view of what harassment and personal attacks are and are using it as a way to avoid people questioning their actions. Dpmuk (talk) 09:24, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Dpmuk. While I appreciate your support, and believe you have handled this well, I'm going to back off from this. I was very disappointed to be accused of attacks, though. When the "Request for a move review" and ANI were more or less ignored, I took that as a message that others do not share our concerns. If we push too hard, we're liable to get smacked ourselves. So I'm going to let it go. --JaGatalk 09:38, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough. I find ANI a very weird place, if something doesn't obviously require admin intervention they won't do anything. Even when I've had a broad consensus and only one person disagreeing they've not done anything against that person changing things to their POV because it's a content dispute and it appears that no matter what happens in a content dispute it won't be considered disruptive and so not worthy of ANI. In my opinion that leaves little choice but RfC/U. That said I understand you're point of view and will see if anyone else will certify with me. Dpmuk (talk) 11:57, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

JaGa, you can find at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Dpmuk_-_Harassment why I perceived your recent post on my talk as WP:HAR. I fix lots of links, but you say you never have seen me fix a single one. See also Wikipedia_talk:Disambiguation#WP:FIXDABLINKS_-_Code_of_honor. Schwyz (talk) 12:46, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

In view of this comment at ANI I'm wondering whether you've changed your mind. No problems if not. I've got a draft, not yet complete RfC/U here. I'd be happy to make changes to make sure anyone co-certifying with me is happy. Dpmuk (talk) 16:52, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
If anything, the "I'm the victim" ANI attempt has encouraged me to certify; it shows he isn't interested in collaboration and is instead willing to cynically work the system to have his way. It was very disappointing, as I think he's an good faith editor who just needs to accept collaboration and consensus, even if it slows progress a bit. I'll drop a note on his talk page asking him to give proper WikiProject notice before attempting mass moves (assuming he isn't doing this already - I haven't been watching him). If he rejects it, or accepts it and doesn't change his ways, I'll certify. --JaGatalk 09:10, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Now taken live at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Schwyz as another user has said they'd certify and given that user's are now asking for blocks at ANI I think it's best to get on top of this as soon as possible. As this has been started earlier than you'd have liked I entirely understand if you don't wish to certify. Dpmuk (talk) 10:48, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks like it's a moot point now. Sad business, really, but to honest I'm sure he'll be back as a fresh sock soon enough. --JaGatalk 12:09, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Does doesn't it. I'll probably leave the RfC/U up for the normal 48 hours in case they come back but it certainly is looking moot. Definitely a shame as their goals were worthwhile and I think with a little bit of tutoring they could certainly have come a very useful member of the community. It's a shame it had to get this far but I'd back off for a few days to see if anyone else could make headway but when they didn't I felt I had no choice but to start a RfC/U. I fear that your sockpuppet concern may be well founded. Let's hope they don't. Dpmuk (talk) 12:19, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi JaGa - you wrote Hi, I see you've made Hamilton West into a disambiguation page. Per WP:FIXDABLINKS, could you clean up the links that now point to the disambig? Thanks.

I cleaned up the 80 or so links pointing to all of the pages other than to the Canadian electoral district manually at the same time as I made the change; for the remainder I put in a bot request, which is in the process of being dealt with. I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet - I made the request within a handful of minutes of turning the page into a dab page. If it has not yet been done, I suggest you take it up with WP:Bot requests. Grutness...wha? 11:02, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I could've done that - there are some great tools for work like this. But I'll leave it to the botmaster. If they don't end up doing it, could you let me know? If all the dablinks need to be changed to point to a single destination, it's like a 5-10 minute job. Cheers! --JaGatalk 11:08, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
OK - thanks for that - I'll remember if I find any more that need doing like this. Hopefully the bot will clear this soon... if it's not done in a couple of days I'll let you know. Cheers! Grutness...wha? 22:47, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Looks like everything's OK now. Must've been a blip. Thanks much for the notification - sometimes I get caught up in other things, and don't notice an outage for a while. --JaGatalk 23:25, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I believe I have fixed the issue you alerted me of, regarding links to a disambig page. I moved the original to the *_(disambiguation) page, and then created a new main topic article. Please check this out and see if this is acceptable. -- Bill Huston (talk) 02:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Fences&Windows 13:56, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I'll watch it, but all in all I'll let my edit history do the talking. --JaGatalk 14:57, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your message. I don't think there are many links to the disambiguation page; User:M-le-mot-dit fixed most of them by editing the Haute-Saône communes template here. "What links here" looks as though its giving false positive results in this instance (does it lag behind?). I'd be happy to fix the ones which are left, but unfortunately I can't tell which are - do you know if there's any way to force the "What links here" results to update? Another quick request

As you may know, I've lately been doing a much more systematic "categorize or tag everything" run through the uncategorized articles list, but that's brought up a new issue (albeit one that should be easily fixable.)

The background is that SoxBot is programmed to remove the uncat template from articles which are already categorized — but according to its maintainer, User:X! there's currently a system limitation whereby the bot can't differentiate between content categories and hidden ones, meaning that it sometimes untags articles whose only categories are hidden maintenance groupings like Category:Year of birth missing that don't actually count toward whether an article is considered categorized. And then I retag those same articles again the next day, and then Soxbot untags them again, and on and so forth.

For the time being, my workaround has been to use {{morecat}} instead if the article has hidden categories on it, because SoxBot doesn't remove that, but then those articles reappear on the untagged list again the next day anyway. So could you double check whether the uncat list recognizes {{morecat}} as a tag for the purposes of distinguishing between tagged and untagged articles? Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 23:10, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Seems easy enough. Would you want the uncat list to exclude any article that is already tagged with {{morecat}}? Or just mark them as tagged? --JaGatalk 20:11, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Just recognize them as being tagged. Since normally the template would only be applied to articles that already have at least one category on them (such as a biographical article that's in Category:Living people but not anywhere else), most articles with that tag aren't even going to show up on the uncategorized list anyway — this request is just to deal with the few odd exceptions where I've had to use that template as a workaround on articles that are really {{uncat}}s.
Since I'm not sure exactly how the programming works, I should note that if whatever bot or system tool does the crawling and indexing is looking for the template tag itself, it should be made to recognize all of the redirects to that template, not solely the {{morecat}} form. Bearcat (talk) 18:44, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and by the way, just so you know: the backlog of articles that still haven't been either categorized or tagged is now officially less than half of where it started when you first made the stub change. Partly because I don't want to overload Category:Category needed all at once, and partly because I didn't want to sit in front of my computer for a week straight tagging 42,000 articles in one giant AWB run, I've been tagging in small chunks, and then directly categorizing articles that jump out at me as being ones I know how to deal with. But at least now the backlog is half-cleared. Bearcat (talk) 19:09, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Just wondering, any progress on this yet? Bearcat (talk) 21:16, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Bearcat. I'm glad you pinged. I haven't got to this yet; I'm working quite a bit these days, and unfortunately I can't telnet to the Toolserver from work; so when I get a spare minute I can work on Wikipedia but not Toolserver. I haven't forgotten you though! I'm looking forward to getting some of this together. --JaGatalk 00:13, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah, okay, no worries. Just wanted to check. For what it's worth, though, I'm going to complicate the request and ask you to also recognize the {{uncategorized stub}} template (and its redirects) as "tagged", too :-) Bearcat (talk) 03:15, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

One more quirk for you. Now that I'm at the letter M, I'm noticing that although it doesn't show up on the primary list, Main Page seems, for some reason, to show up on the downloadable "untagged uncats" list sometimes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it shows up or drops off, either. Bearcat (talk) 21:11, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Just wanted to check in again to ask if you're going to have a chance to get to this soon. Since the downloadable "untagged uncats" list only takes the first 4,800-5,000 articles off the complete list on any given day, it's now at the point where more than 60 per cent of the list consists of articles that have already been tagged as {{uncategorized stub}} — and I'm beginning to get concerned that the number's going to hit 100 per cent soon, leaving no room for articles toward the end of the complete list to get picked up. Bearcat (talk) 21:36, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

OK, I believe that should do it - it should now count anything that transcludes {{Cat improve}} or {{Uncategorized stub}} (or their redirects) as tagged. I don't have test data, so I'm not sure. Could you let me know if the results are what you're looking for? --JaGatalk 22:09, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Great. I'll let you know if any challenges pop up as I'm in the process of actively working with the list, but as of right now the "untagged" backlog is down to 4,485 and there are articles beginning with T in the first 1,000 — which does suggest that it worked. Thanks again. Bearcat (talk) 02:35, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Your harassment

I leave the project. Too much harassment and stalking. I did like to do disambiguation work, fixing lots of wrong incoming links to ambiguous article titles etc. Hope the stalkers can have a nice party now. ADIOS! Schwyz (talk) 10:56, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Adam Horowitz

I fixed all of the redirects but one: List of Lost episodes. Try as I might, I cannot find the remaining redirect to fix. Perhaps you can take a look. -Classicfilms (talk) 19:10, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

It was in a template. --JaGatalk 20:41, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Wow. I'm really impressed. I would have never found that. Glad to help out! -Classicfilms (talk) 22:12, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Coyote Mountains Wilderness

I altered-(immediately after making the article, and finding all the links, and after changing the Arizona article's name-The list of U.S. Wilderness areas has the correct links to both Cal./Az articles), the Template:Protected Areas of California, (which shouldn't link 1000's of articles, anyway) by changing the Template to: Coyote Mountains Wilderness (California). Mmcannis (talk) 13:48, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Looks good - a vast majority of the links are coming from that template, since it's part of the Template:Protected Areas of California mega-template. And a good fix too, if it previously pointed to the park in Arizona! Cheers, --JaGatalk 14:01, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
