Translations in parentheses

Yes, I think you've got it. It's a pleasure to be able to understand the meanings of the titles immediately, and therefore the parentheses in the middle of sentences don't bother me. However, I'm speaking as a reader here rather than an expert on translations, and I'm unaware of any specific Wikipedia guidelines on how to handle titles in languages other than English. As far as the slang and other non-translatable stuff goes, perhaps you could add a footnote explaining that the translations are loose because, as you say, some of the titles contain made-up words and other wordplay for which there is no exact English equivalent. As a result of the recent deletion request I have now looked at Ableism in some detail. Since you closed this discussion, you probably should also consider closing this one and this one which are similar and made around the same time. Your GA nomination of Juha Vainio

The article Juha Vainio you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Juha Vainio for things which need to be addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:06, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for moving King of Kingz. Can you move for me Grace Potter and The Nocturnals to Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, I really don't like to wait for request move to complete.

Dead Reference links

Hi Jafe, A while back you invited me to ask you questions if I had more. Here's one.

What should I do about dead links? Recently, I have been seeing large numbers of references at the bottoms of pages that are dead links. I am wondering if I should mark these, delete them, call attention to them in some way? If it's easy to do while I am researching, I would be happy to do it.

In many cases, their presence gives an article an impression of greater authority than it may have. Thanks!

Eperotao (talk) 15:46, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! In some cases dead links can be replaced with a working one if one is available -- for example if the address of the page has changed, or if there's another page available that references the same information. If this is not possible, you can mark dead links with {{dead link}}, which can be used to point to an archived version of the web page (see the documentation of that template). Dead links in the "see also" section can just be removed; however, if a link is used as a reference in the article it should normally not be removed just because the link is not working currently. There's a whole help page on the issue at Wikipedia:Link rot. Hope this helps. Jafeluv (talk) 22:37, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Eperotao (talk) 21:53, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Another possible history merge case that may require a steward

Hi Jafe, thanks for the cleanup of the edits at nazism that you performed nearly two months ago. I didn't know about it until now, however. I did have the Meta speedy deletion requests page on my watchlist, but I was relying on email notification, which can be temperamental.

Would you be able to help with the possible history merge of the article Shakespeare authorship question with one of its sandbox versions? Please see User talk:Graham87#Unusual history merge for more details. Thanks! Graham87 04:25, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Umm yes, it should have. I've moved it now. Jafeluv (talk) 06:36, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

ÍA players CfD

Hi, I realised that you recently closed this CfD discussion. The thing is you've closed it incorrectly and repeated the word "players" in the category name. This means that the bot has changed the name of the category to the wrong title, and gone round editing players' articles to match. Would you be able to sort this out? Cheers, BigDom 10:40, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Argh, looks like you're right. Fixing it now. Thanks for pointing that out. Jafeluv (talk) 10:58, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
No problem, thanks for sorting it so quickly. Cheers, BigDom 15:08, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm a bit concerned about this move. I tried to undo it but I'm having insane issues with my Internet connection today and made a mess of it. I'd like you to undo it yourself if possible. Editors don't get to substitute their capitalization preferences for what a proper title actually goes by. According to the shows official pages at NBC and Sony the correct title is Days of our Lives without the "o" in "our" capitalized. Please see is 5 and k.d. lang for other examples where we don't use standard capitalization. AniMate 20:32, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Capitalization is a style issue, and in style issues we follow our own manual of style, not the preference of the subject. The move was in accordance with the naming conventions, but if you have a strong reason to ignore them I suggest you start a new discussion as instructed at the top of WP:RM. Jafeluv (talk) 21:40, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

rename

Can you explain what is going on with Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2011_June_10#Category:BAFTA_Award_for_Best_Actor_in_a_Supporting_Role_templates.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 08:18, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Umm, it was renamed to Category:BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor templates as you proposed. Is there something wrong? Jafeluv (talk) 08:19, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Last night when I sent this message that category was a red link. I see it is fixed now.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:11, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, it sometimes takes a while for the bot to start moving articles into the target category. It depends on the size of the backlog, among other things. Jafeluv (talk) 06:25, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Ramones

Please go to Talk:Ramones and explain why you moved the article without any discussion whatsoever. The band's name is "Ramones", not "The Ramones". The definite article is not part of the name. Check their logo and the covers of all 14 of their studio albums. Not a "The" to be found. This is similar to the Sex Pistols, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Descendents (as opposed to The Beatles, The Replacements, or The Vandals). You should discuss moves like this on the talk page before unilaterally moving articles, especially GAs. --IllaZilla (talk) 18:29, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

I haven't moved the article anywhere. Jafeluv (talk) 18:59, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh heck, my mistake...did you do a history merge? I think I misread it as a move and then a move back. My apologies. --IllaZilla (talk) 20:24, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
No worries :) I deleted a couple of revisions, and Graham87 performed the history merge. It did include a temporary page move, so I can see how it's easy to mistake the file history entries for an illegitimate move. Jafeluv (talk) 20:45, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I misread. My mistake. Apologies for mistakenly flying off the handle. --IllaZilla (talk) 22:49, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Train wreck?

You just closed this grouped page move request as 'no consensus'. However, it seems perhaps that a verdict of 'train wreck' should be recorded instead. A number of editors have commented on the appropriateness of bundling nominations with previously failed one. Oh, and while you are at it, perhaps you could see fit and close this move, which actually precedes the one you just closed. Cheers, --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 10:06, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi! It's unfortunate that the community is so divided on this issue, which means that there was really no consensus either way in that discussion. I just commented on the Ruzicka discussion before reading your comment... Jafeluv (talk) 10:10, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, it seems that there is consensus on Martin Růžička. Wikipedia editors are generally ahead of the news sites that, as I said elsewhere, it seems there is a largely consensus application of WP:IAR when it comes to the use of these names in their native form. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 10:33, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I've reread the discussion and still don't see any kind of consensus there. However, as a sanity check I've asked another uninvolved user to take a look at it and provide a second opinion. Jafeluv (talk) 18:41, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Your closed the request as "No consensus" eventhough quite a clear majority of users supported it (8 to 5, 1 of that being "for now until the debate about the use of diacritics in article titles has been resolved") and the fact that debate was still active 1 and a half day before. The moves also follow Wikipedia:HOCKEY#Wikiproject_notice. --Sporti (talk) 16:08, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. We don't generally count votes in RM (since it's a discussion, not a vote), and discussions are generally closed after seven days. However, as you see above I've asked someone else to look at the discussion as a sanity check. Jafeluv (talk) 18:43, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jarno, can you provide guidance on my article before going live please? I have followed guidelines and policies in it's creation but would like to be sure. I have saved it in my sandbox page. Many thanks (Karmul (talk) 11:03, 6 October 2011 (UTC))

Hi Karmul, and sorry for taking some time to respond. What your article needs is references to external sources that cover the organization in detail. An encyclopedia article is not supposed to describe what an organization has to say about itself, but rather what reliable external sources have written about it. You may find this notability guideline helpful. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 20:38, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Last month you moved Phage (comics) to Carl Mach, a page move requested because Phage was a fan-made codename, not an official name used in the comics. Unfortunately another editor has ignored the discussion, and, admitting he's gone purely on what he "thinks" he's read, not actual evidence, has moved it back. Potential TFL nomination of one of the jazz standards lists

I was wondering if you would be interested in suggesting one of the featured jazz standards lists to go on the Main Page as Today's featured list? Subject to a review (basically a quick re-check of the FLC criteria) the list would have the distinction of being the first to go on the Main Page accompanied by a sound.

Happy 2012 by the way! Best, —WFC— 22:48, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I think it's certainly an idea worth considering. Getting an accompanying sound file might be problematic, though, since sound recordings are never really PD in the United States due to infinite civil law protection in some states. Maybe I'll make a nomination at WP:TFLS later. Happy new year to you as well :) Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 00:54, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Thomas De Quincey move

Why have you relisted this move for discussion? It's already been open for discussion for 10 days, with only one comment, which doesn't oppose it, and the move was informally proposed on the talk page another 5 days before that, without attracting any comment at all. Surely that's long enough? Colonies Chris (talk) 10:47, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Oops sorry... I read your message and meant to take another look at this but apparently forgot. Taking a look now. Jafeluv (talk) 07:36, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
I felt that the move could benefit from more discussion since there was at least some evidence for the current name, and since there's no deadline it's usually better to get it right the first time. That said, as you said nobody has opposed the move and it's been two weeks already so the article can probably just be moved by now. Jafeluv (talk) 07:42, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Jazz pages

Why did you remove the jazz standards from the year pages, its an inconvenience having to go back to the decade lists.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:25, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

I posted here about a suggestion on how to write the yearly articles so that they're actually useful instead of just duplicating existing content. Unfortunately it seems like nobody cares about fixing the articles after the AfD was withdrawn. The "year in jazz" and "decade in jazz" articles still contain a lot of unattributed copypaste from existing articles that will take quite a while to clean up. The next step after that would be starting to write actual content for the year articles. In particular, note that the yearly section of a jazz standard list (say, 1917) is not all about 1917 in jazz -- if a song composed in 1917 was recorded by some artist in 1940, the information on that recording belongs in 1940 in jazz, not in 1917 in jazz. MSU Interview

Dear Jafeluv,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:06, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm not interested, but thanks for asking. Good luck with your project. Jafeluv (talk) 11:57, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:8-stage single-acting air cylinder, Ergo-Help.jpg

Jafeluv, on 03/27, I emailed the Wikipedia permissions dept at the address you provided, clarifying ownership of the file in question. I figured that would resolve everything, yet the file still has that "candidate for speedy deletion" tag. Please advise. George Vasell (talk) 17:00, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi George. Thanks, I found your message and the copyright question should now be resolved. I've sent you an email regarding the other file you asked about. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 07:44, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Jafeluv, hello! In regards to File:8-stage_single-acting_air_cylinder,_Ergo-Help.jpg, hey thanks, appreciate your help with that. I do have a question regarding this file as it is posted on the two Wiki pages. Namely, can I (or you) now delete the "This file is a candidate for speedy deletion. It may be deleted after Tuesday, 3 April 2012." tag which is attached to the picture?

As for File:EHTC.5DPL Cylinder, 5-Stage.jpg, I would in fact prefer to change the licensing to cc-by-sa-3.0. When I change the licensing on the description page, can I also remove all the dispute tags the editors put on that page? Or again, if you could do all that, I'd appreciate it, as I don't want to get in trouble for removing tags I shouldn't be removing.

Thanks again for all the help. George Vasell (talk) 14:56, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi again! I've removed the deletion captions, they were simply forgotten when I moved the image to Commons. There's nothing wrong with correcting the license yourself for your own files by editing the description page. Since it's a free license I took the liberty of moving EHTC.5DPL Cylinder to Commons so that it can be used in other projects as well. Hello. I've just seen that this disambiguation page has been deleted. I was wondering if you could tell me who the creator of the page is, so I can see whether they were informed that it was nominated for deletion? I think I may have created it; certainly I would have disputed it. For the moment, I will recreate it, although I can't see what entries were there before, and I'll put my reasons on the Talk page. Obviously if someone wants to PROD it, then they are welcome to. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 10:32, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Boleyn! The dab page was deleted as a result of this move request, and per WP:TWODABS – that is, dab pages ending in "(disambiguation)" that link two or fewer items are generally deleted as unnecessary. Feel free to recreate the page if there are more than two people that can be linked from it. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 10:35, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I think then the original had three entries, the poet, wrestler and link to Charles Wolf dab? Personally, I don't think WP:TWODABS recommends that would be deleted; Wolf/Wolff/Wolfe are easily confused, so Charles Wolfe would then need two hatnotes, one to Charles Wolf dab, one to the wrestler. However, here within a minute's search, I found six entries - it would have been better if this had been checked before deletion. I've looked at the move request, but can't see anything about deletion. Was I the creator, and who nominated it, as if I was the creator, I certainly wasn't informed? Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 10:48, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

There were just two entries on the dab page at the time of deletion, the wrestler and the poet. Maybe it should have been checked first whether there are other pages that could be linked. I see you've now added more links to the dab page. The original creator was Deyyaz back in 2005. Jafeluv (talk) 10:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for moving image to en

Thanks so much for moving the deleted University_of_New_Mexico_Seal.png image from Commons to en! I appreciate your help! ElKevbo (talk) 05:58, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

No problem! Btw, for future reference, Commons has its own admins' noticeboard. Might get a better response time there when you need a Commons admin, since not everyone follows WP noticeboards :) Jafeluv (talk) 06:11, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I know about that but I avoided it because I've had negative experiences asking for this kind of help from Commons admins who insist that they have no obligation to help in this kind of situation. I was hoping that a Commons admin active in en would be more helpful as he or she may have a better understanding of the problems it causes when Commons images used in en are deleted in Commons without warning. It would be nice if there were a bot in Commons that would warn other wikis when an image is being considered for deletion if that image is in use.

Hi! I don't know... To me it seems unnecessary since the technical requests are supposed to be uncontroversial in any case. After all, people could just mark the target page with {{db-move}} instead of making a technical request at RM, and those are not archived anywhere either. But if you feel strongly about it, asking for opinions at WT:RM might be a good idea. Jafeluv (talk) 13:37, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Rename to all

Hi! Recently, a number of article about dynasties had been renamed by un-capitalizing the word "dynasty", such as Ottoman Dynasty, Tay Son Dynasty. Yet, there are still other articles with capitalized "dynasty", such as Chakri Dynasty and those in Template:History of Burma and Template:History of China. It's time we rename them all. (talk) 21:52, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Feel free to propose a move at WP:RM, but keep in mind that it'll probably have to be decided on a case-by-case basis. For example, the dynasties of Egypt were recently moved in the other direction. Jafeluv (talk) 21:56, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
You're right! I noticed that too. Too complex if we have follow 2 different cases. (talk) 22:43, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
Early Dynastic Period of Egypt, lower case "Period" too? Yet most the links when I google it put "Period" in the upper case. (talk) 20:14, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
That page doesn't seem to have been part of the earlier discussion. Feel free to propose a rename on the article's talk page if you want. (The procedure is explained here.) Jafeluv (talk) 16:59, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

CfD: No concensus

See Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2012 May 22#Category:Open methodologies.

Hi, thanks for closing the CfD. Now since the CfD was closed as no concensus, what alternatives are there to go forward? Should I wait a bit and then reopen the same discussion? Open an RD/RfC? Renominate as delete/a other name? Primary I am thinking of giving it a bit of time (a week or so) so to not hound the issue, but I am not sure what is best. Thanks in advance for any advice. *update*, noticed that the talk page of the category it says the result of the CfD was keep. Shouldnt it be "No consensus"? Belorn (talk) 13:42, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Belorn. I think the best way forward would be to come up with one concrete proposal and see whether it gathers enough support to go through. The problem with open-ended discussions, particularly at CFD, is that there is often no clear consensus for any of the proposed alternatives, even if almost everyone agrees that the current name is not optimal. The CFD format is simply not well suited for open-ended discussions, especially since anything older than a week goes into the this-should-already-be-closed backlog. (I closed the CFD after someone requested it on the admin noticeboard.) In general if you feel that an issue would benefit from a discussion with wider participation, WP:RFC is one way to get more opinions.
You're right about the talk page note, that should have been "no consensus" instead of "keep". I've fixed it now. Jafeluv (talk) 17:38, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Moving the page Bacoor, Cavite to page Bacoor.

Hi! I'm Jimboy from Cavite, Philippines, I need an administrator help for moving the page Bacoor, Cavite to Bacoor, because recently the Republic Act 10160 or the law that converts the municipality of Bacoor in the province of Cavite into a component city to be known as the City of Bacoor, was ratified when 40000+ voters favored the conversion through the plebiscite that was held last June 23, 2012. I seek a help from you because I saw that you're the also one who moved the page Dasmariñas City to Dasmariñas last October 31, 2010. Because as a pattern, the pages of the cities of Cavite was renamed by removing ", Cavite" in the last name of their respective pages. Thank you very much! Jimboy (talk) 08:31, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Jimboy. Looks consistent with the relevant naming guideline, so I've gone ahead and moved the page. Thanks for pointing that out. Jafeluv (talk) 09:11, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Moving the page Imus, Cavite to page Imus.

Hi! I'm Jimboy again from Cavite, Philippines. I seek help again from you, can you move the page Imus, Cavite to page Imus, with the same reason like what you did with the page Bacoor? Thank you very much. 13:36, 01 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi again! That move looks potentially controversial, because there are other things called Imus. (Note also this.) I suggest opening a discussion on the talk page as described here. Jafeluv (talk) 17:00, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, but can't it be like Dasmariñas, when you open this page you'll see a note "For other uses, see Dasmariñas (disambiguation)."? In case of Imus can't it be like this, I'll put the note "For other users, see Imus (disambiguation)" also? Because for the case of people, based on my experience of using Wikipedia, there is no such article that has a title which is only a single word that refers to a person; for the case of place, Imus ranch is just like a ranch/forest which shouldn't be called by its name without the word ranch, I guess; for the case of Media, the American radio show Imus in the Morning should not be called using the word Imus only also. Because I feel an uneasy feeling if I think about this, that the cities of Cavite didn't followed the pattern of removing the ", Cavite" after the city name (sorry about this).
By the way, about this, sorry I don't know what did come to my mind at that time, a childish action huh? I'll never do that again. Sorry for disturbing and thanks for replying & everything! God Bless! Jimboy (talk) 18:32, 01 July 2012 (UTC)
There may well be consensus for a solution like Dasmariñas (ie. moving the city article to Imus and adding a hatnote to the disambiguation page at the top), but to find that out you have to propose the move on the article's talk page. Just follow the instructions on the page I linked above and present your arguments why you think the page should be moved, and if there's consensus after about a week, an uninvolved user will come along and make the decision. Jafeluv (talk) 21:11, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Good Day and hello Jafeluv! I did what you have suggested to me last time. I just want to ask what will happen if there's no opposers nor supporters with my move request within a week? Will it be automatically moved or rejected? Thank you very much! Jimboy (talk) 12:00, 03 July 2012 (UTC)
Usually if there's no opposition the move can be considered uncontroversial and it's performed after a week (or more, depending on how much backlog there is at WP:RM). That's a relatively rare case, though, and usually there are at least one or two commenters after the first week. Jafeluv (talk) 12:40, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:20, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for closing Talk:Great consonant shift#Redirect discussions. This was a very difficult close. Would you give a detailed summary of how you assessed the consensus? For example, please summarize the arguments for and against a redirect, explain why the arguments for a redirect were better argued and more well grounded in policy, and provide a list of any arguments you discounted. I don't believe your close is incorrect, though I believe a detailed closing rationale is necessary so participants will be aware of how you reached your conclusion. Thanks, Cunard (talk) 00:39, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Cunard. Sure, I'll try to take a closer look today and expand the rationale a little. Jafeluv (talk) 06:12, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Posted an expanded rationale on the page, hopefully that clarifies the closure. Jafeluv (talk) 12:40, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Thank you providing a detailed closing rationale, which should put to rest why the discussion was closed as redirect. I think Future Perfect at Sunrise's excellent arguments and rebuttals also merit mention in the close as pushing the consensus to redirect. Cunard (talk) 16:42, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, Fut. Perf. made a pretty compelling case and seems to have quite a bit of knowledge of the topic area. It's not often that one needs to close against the numbers in these things, but it just wouldn't have made sense to close that as no consensus. Aervanath had a pretty interesting essay on the subject somewhere at some point, I think.
By the way, nice job clerking the ANRFC page. It certainly helps finding finished discussions that could otherwise be archived without decision. Shouldn't there be an archival bot taking care of finished sections like other AN subpages, though? Jafeluv (talk) 17:52, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
And thank you for your RfC closes. :)

Armbrust (talk · contribs) usually clerks the page, but he can't do so right now because he's unfortunately been blocked two weeks for edit warring.

User:Aervanath/How to evaluate consensus was an interesting read. I prefer that admins weigh the quality of arguments more than the quantity, but admins very frequently fail to do that even though consensus is not a vote (e.g. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Universe Today (4th nomination)).

There isn't an archival bot for WP:ANRFC because bots cannot determine whether a discussion's been closed and some of the very difficult close requests are unanswered for several weeks; this was briefly discussed at Wikipedia talk:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive 10#requests for closure subpage. Cunard (talk) 19:31, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

SPI

I was archiving the case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ctetta when I saw your question after your close. At SPI, we always call the case that had the first edit, the "Master". It doesn't matter how much or little they contributed, or how "important" their role is, it is decided purely by date. That means sometimes the "master" has 14 edits, and the puppet has hundreds or thousands, but it is logical and easy to interpret by using only the date of first edit: no guesswork. If two of the accounts have the exact same time stamp for a first edit, it isn't likely they are socks, so I've not seen a "tie" before. Just wanted to pass that on so you would see it. Always good to have admin patrolling the area, btw. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 01:09, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the info! Using the oldest known account as the master makes sense, but shouldn't it be the oldest of the related accounts? At least I've seen reports moved under other cases when it turns out that the reported socks were't related to the purported master after all. If the Ctetta account is unrelated, isn't it a little unfair to keep the case at SPI/Ctetta? Jafeluv (talk) 07:48, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
Ugh. You are right. For some reason, I thought Ctetta was blocked, but they aren't. Good catch. It is early here, getting read for work, but I will move it over and fix it later today. Thanks! Dennis Brown - © Join WER 11:21, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi, thank u for your message. I have appealed the block (see links below). My last edit have been deleted without discussion. What I have to do? Appeal again ? I'm sorry for having used SP and IPs but it was the only way to communicate (and I admitted this in good faith every time). Furthermore if I want to contact a steward by mail I need to create a new account cause I can't access to all my old accounts. I would remember that I'm not a vandal. I have been blocked on IT wiki for abuse of multiple accounts, not for vandalism. Some italian admins have accused me also to have vandalised some pages but this have not been demonstrated. Please, if you can answer to this message, do it here (I can't access to my old accounts).

If you can, tell me what I have to do. I insist: I'm not a vandal. I diden't know some rules of wikipedia, concerning my abuse of accounts. I don't understand if I can write here or if this can be considered another violation of my ban.

I'm not so interested to collaborate to wiki projects but - you can easily understand - I don't accept to be accused to be a vandal etc. I'm in good faith.

This is one of the last article I've created: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massimo_Firpo

It has been proposed for speedy deletion. Verify his quality, pls, and you will understand that I'm not a vandal. I stop here. Best wishes --109.112.74.12 (talk) 11:28, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

About deleted article Rey "PJ" Abellana

Hi Jafeluv.
From what I have read, "PJ" was the David Hasselhoff of Television in the Philippines in the 1980s. I mentioned this here.
Article was speedily deleted:

If you think it appropriate, could you possibly email me only those barest details of this "blocked or banned user", so that the article might possibly be re-created?
This is of course at your discretion.
