List of chinese american

Noticed your comment on the above page. I totally agree with you, unfortunately there are too much chinese editors on here and there spreading communist propaganda, anyway feel free to edit out the taiwanese on the list.--Bonafide.hustla 00:24, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Welcome!
File:World map.gif

Hi, and welcome to the Countries WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of countries.

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Starting some new articles? See some model pages such as Cambodia!
  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every country article in Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Shy1520 23:02, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Taiwan is not a country...Taiwan is governed as Taiwan Province under the country called the REPUBLIC OF CHINA

You are a citizen of the REPUBLIC OF CHINA. You are not a citizen of Taiwan. ROC is not equal to Taiwan. Taiwan is a province of the Republic of China. Those are the real facts. You can't change them. Stop trying to push a DPP Pan-green point of view. The Republic of China is the Republic of China 中華民國 中華民國不是臺灣

中華民國萬歲, 三民主義萬歲, 反共匪, 反臺獨 中華民國萬萬歲! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nationalist (talkcontribs) 01:37, 19 January 2007 (UTC).

I am the citizen of the ROC, but I'm still from Taiwan! Saying I'm from Taiwan does not mean that I support Taiwan independence. Because, again, Taiwan is the common name for the ROC. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names) for yourself.--Jerrypp772000 23:04, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
It has become the common name, but on Wikipedia we want to the cold hard facts. So that is why we can put Taiwan, ROC or Taiwan, Republic of China. They still know it is from Taiwan. Republic of China is the country. Just like we put Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. Same thing there. Taiwan is still merely a province of the ROC. Wikipedia has also agreed to recognizing the name of the Republic of China. You can see that the article name is the Republic of China, not just Taiwan, like you would find in other encyclopedias. Therefore, you have to respect Wiki naming conventions. -Nationalist 03:16, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
It is certainly true that Taiwan is part of the ROC, but putting Taiwan will be more appropriate. Here are some reasons:
  1. ROC is known as Taiwan, we should always use the common name. see the naming conventions.
  2. It says in the article, it is governed by the ROC anyways.
  3. Most, more than half, of the citizens of the ROC consider themselves as Taiwanese, and not Chinese.
  4. Taiwan is also an island where Guantian and lots of others are located at.
  5. It would be confusing to people who don't know a lot about the history of China, they would not know the difference between the PRC and the ROC.--Jerrypp772000 03:10, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I've been having similar discussions with Nationalist (talk · contribs) over the birthplace of Chien-Ming Wang (feel free to comment). While all sources say Taiwan, they are insisting on using Republic of China. There seems to be alot of POV pushing and original research from this user. Yankees76 03:44, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Please, folks. This is not the place for political debate. The relevant policy is at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese).--Jiang 04:02, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Question

And a good question it is, too. WP:3RR was put in place as an "electric fence" to prevent excessive revert wars, but users who are obviously "gaming" the system are still subject to blocking under the policy. There are a few options for dealing with such users -- you can open a request for comment regarding their behavior, or you can make a report at the 3RR noticeboard, or the incidents noticeboard. Hope that helps. Luna Santin 02:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Response to your comment

No, you are sadly mistaken Jerry. 2007-80=1927. Back in 1927, the Republic of China was on Mainland China and still estabilishing itself as the National Government of China. In 1927, Taiwan was merely a Japanese colony. So how on earth would ROC be equal to Taiwan 80 years ago??? Clearly Jerry you do not really understand the ROC or Taiwan at all. If you were actually from and schooled in Taiwan, you would actually know the real facts. It is apparent that you were not. You seem like some ABC in the US just supporting Taiwan independence without knowing anything about history. You are sadly mistaken and the consensus is that the country is called the REPUBLIC OF CHINA, Not just Taiwan. And it will stay that way. -Nationalist 01:38, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

ok. But ROC is still known as Taiwan.--Jerrypp772000 19:56, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

No, Republic of China is not Taiwan. -Nationalist 22:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Can you read? I said known as!--Jerrypp772000 22:05, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey keep cool. Still not known as Taiwan. It is irresponsible for you to delete all instances of ROC and add Taiwan. Taiwan already exists. Its fine leaving Taiwan, but why are deleting ROC? -Nationalist 00:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Why not? It has a more common name!--Jerrypp772000 00:59, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Taiwan is still there! It is fine. Because Republic of China is the right and official name! -Nationalist 01:01, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

There was a third opinion in Talk:Guantian, Tainan, and you should have stopped. Also, I wouldn't be an ABC even if I was born here in the US, because I'm not Chinese. It seems like you don't communicate using English well, but why do you think I don't understand English well?--Jerrypp772000 17:32, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Picture

The man in the picture is not me. He is just some permanent fixture in the San Francisco Bay Area whom I thought could decorate my userpage.--Jiang 00:14, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

So I guess you do agree with him.--Jerrypp772000 19:59, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Re:Taiwanese Players

I can create pages for all Taiwanese baseball players, but it's going to take some time. I also need help with maintaining them, since it is very difficult for one person to keep tabs on hundreds of players and update their pages. Also, do you think we should limit this operation to only the pro players, or all players including semi-pro players? The difference is that semi-pro players have very little information on them, and some of them only play for a short period of time before retiring from baseball; it doesn't seem efficient to create pages for players that are going to be gone in the next year. User notice: temporary 3RR block

Regarding reversions[1] made on January 28 2007 to Jiali

You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three-revert rule. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future.
The duration of the block is 8 hours. William M. Connolley 12:21, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I think it is kind of unfair, because I was never warned. Second, I still think I am right because I've discussed this issue peacefully with User:Nationalist in Talk:Guantian, Tainan, and there was a 3rd opinion. But Nationalist not only called me a hypocrite, but also totally ignored the third opinion and kept editing those articles. He/She even called me a political extremist POV pusher before.--Jerrypp772000 18:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I will try to justify your action

Hi Jerrypp772000, and I strongly appreciate your tireless effort in the confrontation with Nationalist. While you are blocked for 3RR violation, I have requested the blocker to check on user Nationalist if he is using Taiwanlove as his sockpuppet to make you fall into this trap. See Will's talk page and request for checkuser on Taiwanlove. Regards, Vic226(chat) 14:22, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I contacted w/ another administrator before I was blocked too. Thanks.--Jerrypp772000 15:17, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually we didn't even needed this argument, because there was a third opinion in Talk:Guantian, Tainan. But Nationalist can't stop, he simply doesn't understand the naming conventions.--Jerrypp772000 17:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I noticed the request was declined and for good reason. If you were looking to lodge a complaint for sockuppetry, you went about it wrong. WP:RFCU should not be the first place you go to - you should state your case with differences at WP:SUSPSOCK first. Yankees76 20:18, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I'll do it.--Jerrypp772000 21:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
LOL, looks like I wasn't suppose to get blocked the first time. Because Nationalist used a sock puppet. But whatever, I'm still a nice guy:)--Jerrypp772000 01:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Stop making controversial edits

The Republic of China is the governing authority of Taiwan. Taiwan is governed as Taiwan Province. Therefore, Taiwan, ROC or Taiwan, Republic of China is the correct way. Stop trying to collaborate with your friends to make this encyclopedia false. See Republic of China, Taiwan Province and www.gio.gov.tw and www.president.gov.tw

If you continue to disrupt this encylopedia and revert war you will be reported for 3RRR violations. and subsequently banned. -Taiwanlove 00:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Talks exactly like Nationalist! 3RR"R"! Stop and just read the naming conventions! For the 20,000th time! jeez.--Jerrypp772000 00:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

PLEASE READ THE NAMING CONVENTIONS! Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), and read the 3rd opinion in Talk:Guantian, Tainan!--Jerrypp772000 00:28, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

do u want me to report u for insulting and not keeping a cool head? -Taiwanlove 00:38, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

sorry, but insulting what?--Jerrypp772000 00:47, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

dont just say sorry cuz u dont want to be banned. that is not appreciated -Taiwanlove 00:50, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

What are you talking about? If you want to block, I want to know, at least, the reasons!--Jerrypp772000 00:53, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[2]

I've noticed that you said that Taiwan isn't the common name for the ROC. So that's why you didn't get it. Please read the top of Republic of China.--Jerrypp772000 23:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Taiwanlove

Hmm... if someone is using sockpuppets to circumvent WP:3RR, you might consider a request for checkuser. Beyond that, I don't usually consider myself an expert in dealing with sockpuppets, but I can have a look. Looks like you've already made a report at suspected sockpuppets. Luna Santin 03:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! He's confirmed to be one of Nationalist's sock puppets.--Jerrypp772000 23:03, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Taiwanlove indef'ed, and Nationalist blocked for another 72 hours for sockpuppetry, 3RR, and because it's his 4th block. Vic226(chat) 00:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I saw that. He also edited Jiali, which made me blocked. However, maybe we should be nice this time, since he's already blocked. And I don't think he'll find an excuse to unblock himself.--Jerrypp772000 00:43, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, actually it's Toucheng, Yilan.--Jerrypp772000 00:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

User notice: temporary 3RR block

Regarding reversions[3] made on January 29 2007 to Toucheng, Yilan

You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three-revert rule. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future.
The duration of the block is 24 hours.

Please learn to live within 3R or your editing here will be interrupted.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Jerrch (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I don't think I was wrong in a way. It's my fault that I violated the 3RR, but I have the reasons to change it. Taiwanlove, or Nationalist, has been trying to change Taiwan into Taiwan, ROC, without discussion. My reasons are listed in Rende, Tainan, and apparently, Taiwanlove had read them before because he/she replied. It has been confirmed that he/she is a sock puppet of Nationalist, so that means that he/she had read Talk:Guantian, Tainan too. A third opinion was shown there. So they should have stopped editing after they saw the opinion. I've been trying to resolve this problem peacefully with them, which I'm sure they agree, but they not only ignored the third opinion but also even called me a hypocrite. I took all those, and tried to explain more than argue. I really think I deserve to be unblocked, please.--Jerrypp772000 21:57, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Decline reason:

There are very few exemptions for WP:3RR the situation you describe is not one of them. The purpose of the rule is to prevent edit wars which are generally disruptive, so believing yourself to be right does not exempt you (everyone always does believe their side to be the correct side), if you find difficulty in resolving disputes please see WP:DR --pgk 22:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Sorry, administrator, I've got another reason. It has been confirmed that Taiwanlove is Nationalist's sock puppet. When I was having an editing war with Taiwanlove, Nationalist was still blocked. Wouldn't that mean that I was simply reverting actions performed by a blocked user?--Jerrypp772000 22:12, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Your intent as you layed out above was not that, it was edit warring. I suggest you consider acknowledging that and that you will avoid doing so in the future as being a more persuasive line for getting yourself unblocked. Though since this your second block for 3RR in the last 48 hours, that may take some believing. --pgk 22:19, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Okay, well, I'm sorry for violating the 3RR. I'll be more careful when I come back.--Jerrypp772000 23:24, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject

I'm going to create the Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwanese Baseball. People that are interested can join the WikiProject.

Jerry,

If you would like to create a page on Taiwanese Baseball, there is a fantastic history by Andrew Morris in David K. Jordan's The Minor Arts of Daily Life: Popular Culture in Taiwan. ""Could you please turn on your email so I could get more information to you?"" Maowang 00:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Republic of China

Hey, I don't really see the point of pipelinking "Republic of China" to "ROC". It removed accessiblity to information and is generally unhelpful. Please don't do it?--Jiang 02:08, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Moving County article

Please request the move before actually doing it. Your move concerned politically sensitive issues and therefore should be consulted on before you do it. Colipon+(T) 03:49, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

From the naming conventions.

As a general rule of thumb, the official political terms "People's Republic of China" or "PRC" and "Republic of China" or "ROC" should be used in political contexts (that is, to describe the existing governments or regimes) rather than the imprecise and politically charged terms "China" and "Taiwan." For example, "Hu Jintao is the President of the People's Republic of China" is preferred over "Hu Jintao is the President of China." Likewise, one should write "one must be an ROC citizen to vote in the ROC presidential election" as opposed to "one must be a Taiwanese citizen to vote in the Taiwanese presidential election."

One subtle yet important point: Wikipedia treats the Republic of China as a sovereign state with equal status with the People's Republic of China, yet does not address whether they are considered separate nations. Taiwan should not be described either as an independent nation or as a part of the People's Republic of China. Wikipedia should merely state the de facto situation that Taiwan is governed by an independent government/state/regime called the "Republic of China." '

The Republic of China is a sovereign state governing Taiwan. It should be noted that in political contexts such as the political division of the Republic of China (ie township) Republic of China should be included. -Sid212 04:06, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I knew most of that. But why are you telling me this? I only asked if you are one of Nationalist's sock puppets. By the way, if you didn't know, Nationalist is blocked for 72 Hrs, because he was being stubborn on those topics.--Jerrypp772000 22:16, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
And also, you can't just copy that from the page.--Jerrypp772000 22:59, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh, he didn't exactly copy them. He missed the last few sentences in the 2nd paragraph above from the original one for some unknown reason:

When it is necessary to describe the political status of Taiwan, special note should be made of Taiwan's complex position. The term "province of Taiwan" can be offensive and should only be used when attributed to its source or referring specifically to the existing division under the ROC (for example, "James Soong was the only popularly elected governor of Taiwan Province").

Re: Taiwanese baseball

--Jitcji 08:34, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

This is the English Wikipedia, not Chinese

This is the English Wikipedia and we should follow the naming conventions set forth. Please do not argue on this matter. Thank you. -Nationalist 02:29, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but what are you talking about? I mean like which article I edited are you talking about?--Jerrypp772000 02:30, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Please watch out for the possible 3RR violation on Jhunan, Miaoli

Vic226(chat) 02:37, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I knew that. But he has to violate it first for me to have 4 edits in 24 hrs. so.--Jerrypp772000 02:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Just another factual note that WP:POINT#Gaming the system has the exact example of gaming the system by 3RR. Reverting only 3 times per 24 hours does not necessarily guarantee your innocence. That's what Yankees76 said about Nationalist with Taiwanlove. Regards, Vic226(chat) 02:48, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I'll be more careful from now on. I'll discuss more than edit.--Jerrypp772000 03:03, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Obviously he is trying to game the system and wanting me to violate the 3RR. I am asking him to stop and look at naming conventions. He is the only one stubborn enough to not. Like for example, Vic even looked at it and has stop supporting his crusade. Please listen to reason. Thanks. -Nationalist 03:49, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I listened and wrote Taiwan (ROC), exactly what the naming conventions said. But why are still reverting it? And no I'm not trying to game the system, I'm just trying to make it less confusing.--Jerrypp772000 03:51, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Besides, I've always assumed good faith, why would I want you to be blocked? I was not even that upset when you used a sock puppet just to get me blocked.--Jerrypp772000 04:12, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

No the naming conventions dont say to write Taiwan (ROC). Show me the line of the Chinese Naming Conventions where it tells you to that. You keep trying to report me to 3RR. Also, I have seen you report me to get you request declined. Obviously, you want to stamp out all opposition to your view and the reality that the Republic of China governs Taiwan Province. -Nationalist 05:20, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Read the text above the POV tag, please.--Jerrypp772000 16:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC) -Nationalist

please show me exactly where that is..link and everything -Nationalist 22:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Go to here, read the paragraph right above the POV tag. Thanks.--Jerrypp772000 22:25, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Taiwan should not be described either as an independent nation or as a part of the People's Republic of China. Wikipedia should merely state the de facto situation that Taiwan is governed by an independent government/state/regime called the "Republic of China."

As a general rule of thumb, the official political terms "People's Republic of China" or "PRC" and "Republic of China" or "ROC" should be used in political contexts (that is, to describe the existing governments or regimes) rather than the imprecise and politically charged terms "China" and "Taiwan."

Keep reading.--Jerrypp772000 22:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Also, what you wrote was just about alphabetizing. NOt about the division/political status. We should follow the precedents in the Township and COunty articles for this. -Nationalist 22:35, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, you know the reason why we should put ROC (Taiwan) when alphabetizing?--Jerrypp772000 23:52, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Naming conventions

I strongly favor the independence of Taiwan, but the technical name of the country is the Republic of China. I see the user in question in this RfC changing it to Republic of China and I therefore see no problem with those particular edits. He has at times been somewhat incivil, but not egregiously. This is my position. Regards, KazakhPol 02:23, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, you probably have some sort of knowledge of the Chinese history, but you might not understand that there are a lot, in fact most, of the people who don't. And since Taiwan is the common name, ROC (Taiwan) would not be inappropriate.--Jerrypp772000 18:39, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Regarding the Jay Chou article, along the same lines, I know you're pro-independence, but again: on this page, it states that Wikipedia more or less wishes to avoid taking sides over the China/Taiwan debate. As you know, ROC is the name of the government on Taiwan and the islands that it governs, and it keeps the pro-PRC people at bay. -Pandacomics 15:06, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
I have never said that! But Jay Chou is only a person from Taiwan, and this person has done nothing important to the gov't of ROC, therefore has nothing to do politically with the ROC. We also try not to make things political in Wikipedia, don't we?--Jerrypp772000 02:17, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Deja vu all over again

No need to inform me, I found it. User:Chunghwa Pride. Vic226 05:54, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw his/her edits. I highly suspect that's another of Nationalist's sock puppet. And I'm sure you do to! What concerns me is that it's weird that Nationalist would do all these stuff just to edit the articles. If he thinks his right, he should discuss more with us, or even inform an administrator. So it's kinda strange. Sometimes I feel like he attacked me and other users just because he didn't understand what we meant, or couldn't give us any better reasons.--Jerrypp772000 18:37, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

You are terribly wrong. I am not Nationalist. I welcome anyone to perform a checkuser on me. I demand that you stop with your hurtful and insulting statements at me. I do not like that. -Chunghwa Pride 00:48, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

So now you stop vandalizing Chi-ling Lin

That was true. And you didn't know about it?! What makes you think you are even Taiwanese if you don't know shit about what is going on Taiwna. You cant even answer a question about taiwan for beans. You probably arent even Taiwanese but some fat hairy guy living in the Bermuda Triangle. Just stop ruining Wikipedia. The fact is that the Republic of China is teh country and the common name is NOT Tawian. You have doubel standards. everyone is sick and tired of your Taiwan independence POV. We dont want that. Alex678 02:19, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

O...kay. Some personal attacks, bad languages, and the same o' "Taiwan vs ROC" issue. I am Taiwanese, and I know it. It may or may not be you business, but not knowing things that are going on in Taiwan doesn't change the fact that I'm Taiwanese, and it certainly doesn't make me a fat hairy dude. Ruining Wikipeida huh? At least I'm not the one making controversial edits without leaving some sort of a reference. I do not know why you think that the common name of the ROC is NOT Taiwan, and that's probably why you've been reverting almost all my edits in the past few months. What most of the Wikipedians (I'm not even gonna say everyone) are tired of is a user that won't cooperate with other users, or is disruptive to Wikipedia.--Jerrypp772000 22:28, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
