I don't know if you added this source, but one editor seems to have issues with it. Best,  Mr.choppers | ✎  19:53, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Greetings Mr.choppers, It has been sometime now. But, if that source is not the best, please feel free to use one of these other ones [1], or [2]. Seems like the newer news articles are already referencing the new branding. Ktin (talk) 20:06, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Not spam!

Special:Diff/975849643 wasn't spam! My vote was pretty perfunctory—probably should have written what I just wrote in the first place :) AleatoryPonderings (talk) 19:29, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks AleatoryPonderings, much appreciated. :) Ktin (talk) 20:07, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
Hola AleatoryPonderings! Just saw this comment here. I definitely appreciate all of it :)
I am not sure if I have told this earlier, I genuinely like the diligence that you bring into your work -- be it the thoughtful way you go about the AfDs, or the way, you iteratively work on copy-edits and improvements such as the most recent one at Kesavananda Bharati. You have been a pleasure to know here at WP, and I look forward to much more collaboration in the days to come. Ktin (talk) 19:47, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
Ah, thanks so much Ktin—I'm blushing! It's great to work with you too—you're thoughtful, thorough, and so considerate. I look forward to working with you in future as well :) AleatoryPonderings (talk) 20:09, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Opening sentence of the article Kesavananda Bharati

Hi, Ktin. I tried to make the first sentence of the article Kesavananda Bharati to be as general and informative as possible, following MOS:LEADBIO. When I first read the first sentence, I couldn't immediately understand who the person in the article was. In my logic, as also shown in the examples of biography article opening sentences here, the first sentence of such article should contain the name of the person, the birth and death dates, the nationality of the person, the occupation, and then the positions/roles. The first sentence of the article as it is now does not follow this, and hence it is non-informative for me. I think we need to state that he is Indian, and then followed immediately by his occupation. What I could think of the occupation was "Hinduism leader". Perhaps it should be "Hindu leader" or "Hindu monk" or "Hindu priest"? sentausa (talk) 21:19, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the note here Sentausa. I do understand with what you are attempting to do there and I agree with the approach too. My concern with the text that you had there was that the phrase used was not right. Regarding the correct phrase - please can you post this question on the article's talk page for guidance from folks who are knowledgeable about this topic. Thanks and good luck. Ktin (talk) 21:26, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you!!!

Thank you, Ktin, for supporting my photograph of the construction site in Bellevue. You know, though, I am tired of fighting that one. I'm just going to edit other pages. But, thank you, it felt good to have a supportive comment like that.Truth Is King 24 (talk) 01:17, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Hey there, Truth Is King 24! Thanks for the note! I genuinely believed that a construction site is a vital part of a city. It is going to be with us for the next few years, and it is best that we embrace it and truly show our city as the way it is! Anyways, moving on, I think is the pragmatic thing to do! Good luck and have a great week ahead! Ktin (talk) 01:48, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Hindrise (NGO)

I'm intrigued by your assertion that an article at AfD that meets WP:G11 cannot be deleted under WP:G11. Always open to new ideas and correction. COuld you please show we where in policy it states that? Thanks, --Deepfriedokra (talk) 02:08, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

You wrote, while this might be water under the bridge, I will continue to expect better from you as an Administrator, could you please provide greater specifics on how to meet your expectations? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 02:10, 11 September 2020 (UTC).
Deepfriedokra, I have no particular stance on that deletion other than the fact that was already made, that your action was disrespectful to the time invested by others who had contributed there. Let's move on! Ktin (talk) 02:12, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
You say that by deleting a CSD candidate, I was disrespectful? I take that very seriously-- could you elaborate and guide me so that I can be more respectful in the future? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 02:17, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
There always have been and always will be those that hold deleting anything is akin to xxxx xxxxxx (preceding text has been blanked by the talk page owner, and not by the author of this particular comment) These are the people that will doom Wikipedia. John from Idegon (talk) 02:49, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
John from Idegon, Hey John! Nice to see you here. Absolutely nothing against deleting. Just the whole act of doing it while folks were discussing (however nuanced or not) seemed disrespectful to the time invested by the participants. But, anyways, water under the bridge now. I have moved on. Ktin (talk) 03:23, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Generally, it's disruptive to make any process take longer than necessary. Some people here are all about the fellow editors; some are about the encyclopedia. Some of us are on the extreme on both ends. Having been in business for about 35 years, I've learned no individual is unreplacable. However, there's only one en.wiki. Stats

Thanks for adding the stats tables at Joe Ruklick. Don't get me wrong, they are nice to have (though some might argue WP:NOTSTATS). Typically, stats tables or comparable filmographies or discographies have not been an ITN requirement. Usually basic prose covering career highlights have been sufficient. Again, thanks for addressing it. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 05:44, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

Bagumba, Agree with you -- particularly when there are reams of incoherent tables. But, here it seemed to make sense. And, was easy to source. So, all is good. Cheers. Ktin (talk) 05:51, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

DYK

Not sure if John Turner qualifies for DYK since I don't think you/we expanded it 5x from where it was a few days ago (refs don't count, unfortunately), and that's the only WP:DYK criterion that seems relevant. Special:PermaLink/975172470 (last pre-overhaul version) is 3546 words; Special:PermaLink/979577307 (current version) is 3242 words. If it got to GA status it could be nominated then. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 14:58, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

AleatoryPonderings, You will not believe this -- I was planning to check with you first before posting there. I was under the wrong impression that DYK was just about interesting facts. Seems like it is tied to an article changing status (e.g. 5x change, conversion to GA status etc.) Ktin (talk) 15:02, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Haha, I'm hardly an authority! But I've done a few DYKs so I'm pretty familiar with the criteria. Yeah, unfortunately DYK is about interesting facts + satisfying the very detailed set of criteria. I think reffing up an article should probably qualify, but sadly that's not one of the ways to get a DYK, at least at the moment :( AleatoryPonderings (talk) 15:08, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
AleatoryPonderings, makes sense. Now, I should go and withdraw from there before it goes down a spiral. :) Ktin (talk) 15:59, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Sam Curran

The standard cricket project way of working is that we don't add franchise league teams to the lead. These are short lived contracts on a temporary basis rather than long term contracts. By all means feel free to remove the reference to CSK after this year's IPL is over and/or Curran leaves the team. Or just remove it now and go with the standard way we work. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:26, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

Blue Square Thing, Appreciate your note. I will add a reminder to myself to follow up at the end of this season. As you can imagine, I went in to the article after today's IPL game and made the edit. For comparison Faf du Plessis seems to have this accurately written up. Ktin (talk) 18:29, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
That specifically says that he has played matches for... rather than he does play for. The list specifically doesn't mention that he's played for Kent, for example - whom he played three matches for last season. That was such a short stint that I would never have considered it important enough to add to the lead. I'll remove Melbourne now from that list - he played a single match for them.
There are cricket articles that I've come across that are more than a decade out of date. That tends to be exactly this sort of thing and is why we would never aim to include it. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:30, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
Blue Square Thing, Point taken! I have added a reminder for myself and I will follow up [3]. Ktin (talk) 19:39, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
Blue Square Thing, btw -- Sam Curran has been in the top 10 articles globally in the last couple of days!!! Saw that one today and was reminded of our interaction. Cheers. Be careful if you get an edit conflict

You've just undone all my work again. I am not going to fix it! KittenKlub (talk) 19:06, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

KittenKlub, hi there, I selected your edits to prevent over-writes, not sure what is happening. But, that said, I will step back for a bit, go ahead and re-introduce your edits if you can. I think references are more important at this time. Thanks. Ktin (talk) 19:11, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
But please stop submitting if you get an edit conflict, because else you will undo everything the other person was done which is what has just happened twice.KittenKlub (talk) 19:13, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
KittenKlub, will do. My visual editor is not the best one at allowing me to merge changes. But, I will step back for a bit, please go ahead and add the references. My edits are copy edits and I can do that once the references are in place. Thanks again. Ktin (talk) 19:15, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
KittenKlub, Please let me know once you are done adding references. I will go in for a round of copy-edits. Thanks. Ktin (talk) 19:56, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Finding too specific German references is a bit to difficult for me. I've done the obvious gaps. (I can only switch between English and Dutch on my computer) Also I dropped German on high school to boot... KittenKlub (talk) 19:59, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Congratulations on the award! This is a rare and prestigious honour  — Amakuru (talk) 19:30, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
"rare" made me smile, at no. 2447 ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:49, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt and Amakuru -- thanks again for the very kind words, and also for the thoughtfulness that has gone into the comment in the prize box. I must admit, I feel like an impostor for the first article listed there, which I didn't have much to do with. Thanks again and have a good rest of your respective days. Ktin (talk) 19:54, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: according to Wikipedia:Wikipedians, there are currently 39,986,340 Wikipedia accounts, of which 132,545 are actively editing, so 2,447 still counts as a rare honour! I certainly count myself honoured for being recognised and having my own day, for my work on the Rwanda article!  — Amakuru (talk) 20:00, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
Amakuru, definitely agree, and thanks much again, both of you! Also, just read the Rwanda article and saw that you have close to ~75% of the authorship (of that FA article) [5]! I just can not even imagine the huge amount of effort that would have gone in! Thanks for all that you do Amakuru! Ktin (talk) 14:35, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes, it's very satisfying to work on an article such as that and see the fruit of your work by getting the shiny FA star. It took me a really long time though, several years on and off but definitely worth the effort! Rwandan Civil War was another one I worked on extensively, and it's getting its main page slot four days from now on the 30th anniversary of the start of the war. Out of interest, where did you get the 75% statistic from? Is there a tool for measuring what percentage of an article was written by particular editors? (never mind, I see you've just linked the tool for me!) Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 14:40, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Amakuru, Added the Rwandan Civil War to my read list. Will also look out for it on the main page. The depth of some of your works is truly inspiring! This thread has been truly eye-opening for me.
I just read Gerda Arendt's efforts at her page, and the community building actions there are truly commendable. All in all -- much to be thankful about in these interactions.

Thank you, blushing a bit. Today, Wolfgang Clement died, - Id normally make him ready for ITN but this is too detailed and unreferenced, and I did already three articles today (which includes some basic formatting for him, - normal is one). Unless you feel challenged enough, Ktin ;) - then I'd watch and help. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:19, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I saw Wolfgang Clement's article earlier today. Seems like there is quite some work remaining. Unfortunately, I have work this afternoon, and I will have to go heads-down there. But, I can definitely help with copy-edits, if I can get some help with references / citations. Ktin (talk) 18:14, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, this effort was totally worth it! Ktin (talk) 23:23, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi there, I just wanted to discuss your edit on Eddie Van Halen before I make any changes. I know that the general rule is to refer to the subject of the article by their last name per MOS:SURNAME but, given that the band is also called Van Halen and the article talks about various members of his family with the same last name, I think that this would be an exception to the general rule and it would be more appropriate to use "Eddie" throughout to avoid confusion and to disambiguate from the band and his family members. What are your thoughts on this? TribunalMan (talk) 00:29, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

TribunalMan, thanks for checking. I did change per MOS:SURNAME. But, I do see your point. Maybe try changing it to Eddie and see if any other editor chimes in with their opinion? One thing to ensure is that we remain consistent with whatever we go with, through out the article. Good luck and thanks for checking. Ktin (talk) 00:33, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Chiratae Ventures, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. ITN recognition for Conchata Ferrell

If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:51, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

Hey, I just marked this as reviewed and then unreviewed it because I realized I had voted in the AfD and was thus involved. Sorry for the multiple notifications! No reflection on article quality, of course—just didn't want to review something I was arguably connected with, even in some distant way. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 05:15, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

AleatoryPonderings, howdy! Not an issue at all! I had totally forgotten about this one. Funnily, I was thinking of pinging you over the weekend to see if you could review Charles Allard. But then, thought that it would be inappropriate to do so and held off :)
Have a great week ahead! Cheers. Ktin (talk) 14:13, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
If you're sitting around waiting for reviews (I know it can be annoying), maybe consider applying for Wikipedia:Autopatrolled rights? You've been here for a long time and have created a number of articles, so it might be reasonable. Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving! AleatoryPonderings (talk) 15:54, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
AleatoryPonderings, happy thanksgiving to you and your family as well! Pardon the delay, I had stepped out with the family here for the weekend!
Re: the article itself, it seems so ironical, somebody went in and deleted it for being a copyvio of a site that mirrors wikipedia content and was created somewhere around September 22, 2020. No attempts to check dates, seems like someone has been trigger happy. Anyways, let's see. Ktin (talk) 01:13, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Ah, that's a shame! Maybe try Wikipedia:Deletion review? Hope you had great thanksgiving celebration! AleatoryPonderings (talk) 01:29, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
AleatoryPonderings, yup, thanksgiving was a good break. Ended up taking extra time off through today, and made it an extended long weekend with the family. Hope you had some good downtime too! Ktin (talk) 01:34, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

You made my day!

Thanks so much for the nomination on Meta—it really means a lot. You're too kind :) AleatoryPonderings (talk) 15:53, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

AleatoryPonderings, I genuinely think you deserve it for doing the work that you do! That said, I think I didn't do something right in the nomination. E.g. your name shows up with a red link there. I have asked a question there. Will follow up for a response. Ktin (talk) 17:32, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Ah, I think that's just because I didn't have a userpage on Commons when you nominated? I just created a minimal one and It shows up blue now, although perhaps the nomination itself isn't transcluded on the main nominations page for some reason? In any case, thanks again—you truly bring joy to my wiki-life :) AleatoryPonderings (talk) 18:51, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
AleatoryPonderings, Yup, the transclusion has not happened either. I will follow up in sometime on that group! Btw, you are going to find this hilarious -- I finally learnt how to send one of those barnstar template thingies after all these days! [6]. Ktin (talk) 20:33, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! And ha, yes, they are somewhat perplexing—I don't think the "Wikilove" tab existed when I was editing back in the late '00s, so I've enjoyed giving out barnstars that way lately. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 20:40, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Popcorn for you

KittenKlub (talk) 07:29, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

KittenKlub, Article has shaped up well. Definitely can be expanded further. But, I think this meets the homepage / RD levels of hygiene. I am off to sleep now. Cheers. Ktin (talk) 08:39, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
@KittenKlub: on a different topic, thanks for that date of birth catch on H. G. Somashekar Rao. Seems like an IP editor added that one [7] in between edits and we didnt catch that one earlier. Much appreciated. Ktin (talk) 19:55, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Ktin I noticed it by accident, because I changed it to a template and suddenly the age differed from the story. That date of birth is on the internet, but most obits I have read said 86, so I assume that 86 is correct. Anyway, I made a double check of the article, so as far as I am concerned it's ready to go. KittenKlub (talk) 19:59, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
KittenKlub, Thanks much. I had given the dob a search, but, didnt find one. Hence, had left it empty in the body of the article. Agree on leaving the 86 as its referenced by almost all news articles reporting on his death. Ktin (talk) 20:15, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

TheRichest.com as a source

Hi Ktin. I noticed that you recently used therichest.com as a source for biographical information in Alex Trebek. Please note that the general consensus as expressed at WP:RSN is that it does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for the inclusion of personal information in such articles. I've gone ahead and removed it. If you disagree, let's discuss it. You may want to check WP:RSP and WP:RSN to help determine if a source is reliable. Thanks.--Hipal/Ronz (talk) 22:31, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

Hipal, Thanks. Have you considered adding it to the edit filters? We should, if not already. Not a scalable model for editors to reference discussions from WP:RSN everytime a new source is added. Good luck. Ktin (talk) 22:37, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
I've not paid attention to when and how that is done. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 23:00, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hi Ktin, we meet a bit on WP:ITN but I was just wondering would you be interested in New Page Patrol, I think someone with your eye for detail and enthusiasm would be great at patrolling new articles - just a thought JW 1961 Talk 22:42, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

  • Many thanks for the thought JW. I would be honored to support. Quick question -- I have been able to spend additional time this week, because of the holidays in my offline world. Would the NPP responsibility require a time bound commitment? E.g. x reviews in a 1 month period to remain active? That might end up becoming a little bit of a challenge, not in the short term, but in a sustained period. If it is on a best effort basis, I am 100pc onboard to support. Ktin (talk) 22:52, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Ktin, Like everything else on wiki, it's voluntary and so there is no minimum, though at the start you would be encouraged to take it slowly not approve or reject too many, 2 or 3 a day was all I did in my probationary month (that way an admin can easily see if you're doing ok) I just got the permission permanent this week so I haven't increased much yet. I just thought of you when I see the backlog and the amount of new pages appearing daily. JW 1961 Talk 10:26, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Joseywales1961, makes sense. Sounds good. Sign me up. Thanks again for the gesture, JW!
Also, if you have a moment, can I request you to have a look at Mary Fowkes and review (if appropriate). Unfortunately, I didn't get to this one on time to get to WP:ITNRD. Will send it to WP:DYK instead. RIP. Ktin (talk) 05:09, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Ktin, Done, nice little article JW 1961 Talk 11:35, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
We can't just sign up people - everybody (apart from admins) has to apply for the flag themselves at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/New page reviewer. Have a great day and I'll check in at ITN later to see what you've come up with today! JW 1961 Talk 14:45, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Joseywales1961, oh true. My bad. I think I have done this once before and got my hands slapped, but, hopefully with some additional data points, they might give me a relook. On your latter point, just wrapped up an WP:ITNRD submission. Was good to revisit my econ notes to expand the article. I think it is has shaped well. Thanks JW.
