[edit]Speedy deletion nomination of Aliens Deportation Act 1948
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Aliens Deportation Act 1948 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://press-files.anu.edu.au/downloads/press/p109651/mobile/ch01s02.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa (talk) 23:46, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
O'Keefe v Calwell
[edit]Hi Lollipoplollipoplollipop - just a tip that Australian legal case names use the abbreviation "v" not "vs" (and not "v." either). I've fixed this for O'Keefe v Calwell for you. Bookscale (talk) 09:49, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome, subscribers, to the inaugural Discontent Content newsletter! Hello, wonderful people, and welcome to the very first Discontent Content! I'm glad you're here, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do. In future issues, I hope to use this section to brag about the achievements of subscribers -- so why not go do something worth bragging about? Article improvement initiatives have a long and storied history on this project, and I'm honoured to add myself to the list of people trying to find one that works. My perhaps quixotic goal here is to unify a few different issues -- the maintenance of old quality-assessed articles (GAs in particular) and the sheer length of the long left tail -- in one fell swoop. I'd be happy if this ended in something like another GA sweep; I'd be happier if it ended in another GA sweep where those GAs got kept. I'd be even happier than that if this resulted in the improvement of our worst articles, not just our best. I believe in the project, and I believe in what we can be. Most of all, I believe in you. Let's get out there and make this thing better. |

This is ridiculously late, and I apologise -- I've been writing articles :) I've also, excitingly, landed a couple 'real publishing' writing gigs, which I'll be plenty excited to talk about when they're published. This issue's reader suggestion from Sennecaster:
One topic I've been broadly thinking about lately is the concept of GA sweeps. There hasn't been one in well over a decade; discussion of a new one is traditionally stymied by the sheer number of GAs that would need sweeping, considering there are over ten times as many as there were at the last sweep. Nonetheless, there's no dispute that many GAs don't really count as 99.5th percentile articles, or even decent-quality articles (whether one's own personal reading of WIAGA is closer to the former or the latter, and how different those things are, is an exercise for the reader). I've been brainstorming ideas, and I've been wondering if we can tackle the problem with limited-scope sweeps. One idea would be sweeping popular or vital articles -- those that get enough views to make up a significant proportion of the "GA experience" to readers. Another would be focusing on shorter GAs, which might trend towards a less in-depth treatment of the topic than could really justify the rating. There may very well be a path here to maintaining GA standards, and either of those would have the benefit that they might be more likely to encourage people to work on rather than simply delist articles -- popular topics with lots of interested parties willing to help, or smaller topics that don't seem like too big a challenge to pick up.

After my prior thoughts on GA sweeps and their viability, work is beginning to break down what parts of the backlog can be tackled. Planning is beginning at User:Vaticidalprophet/GA reform and its talk; feel free to give your opinion, participate in current GARs, and assess articles. The current plan is to look at GAs with outstanding cleanup tags as our first priority. Sorry for the delay this time around -- I've been having A Month healthwise. I expect to maintain this at an approximately monthly schedule and will try not to let it slip further. I'm enthused by the work going on at GAR lately and hope to work something excellent out of it. |

Article 4
[edit]I really like how that little table is looking in the Article 4 section. Fephisto (talk) 00:10, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- Definitely, yea. It might be worth having a separate column for what the outcome of each instance was. For example the 2003 consultation resulted in NATO cutting off cooperation with Russia. I removed the Cuban Missile Crisis from the table because it wasn't invoked then, but there does seem to be interesting literature about why it wasn't invoked, which may be useful to add: https://scholarlycommons.law.emory.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1224&context=eilr, https://www.jstor.org/stable/2152053 //Lollipoplollipoplollipop::talk 12:08, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea, let me give it a shot. Regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis, what do you think was going on with that other source I found from the National Security Council (that's a pretty good competing source, right?)? I saw that the NATO ambassador Finletter was ordered to convene, so I treated that as an Article 4 invocation. Your second source is interesting, so let me hold off until I can get access to the full version, but I'd like to see it to doublecheck through it. I also wonder if there were past invocations, but we just don't know about them because they haven't been declassified yet, or how many of these sources have kept up with recent declassifications. Fephisto (talk) 16:57, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- I'm going to move the Cuban Missile Crisis discussion over to the Treaty talk page because that source you found should be kept in the record over there. Fephisto (talk) 17:17, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

New article - want in on the DYK?
[edit]Howdy Lollipop, Given our recent tag-team on List of military alliances, I was wondering if would you want to help expand Franco-Greek Defence Cooperation Pact? I just made it a little bit ago. I love your username
[edit]I am user:Soap typing on an alternate account which I use on mobile devices. I acquired both names at a time when the namespace was not yet so crowded.
I read Wikipedia and Wiktionary quite a lot on my tablet and phone, but since I rarely edit from them, ive been offering to give up this username in favor of something more humble for several years now. Nobody has yet taken me up on the offer, and perhaps most people just don't think about usernames that much, but when I saw you posting I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if you wanted this name that I really don't need. Hello
[edit]Sorry to disturb you, but I saw you active at List of military alliances. Can you also take a look about the List of military alliances page from time to time, seems to couple of editors really want to make a mess and add stuff that are not military alliances by every cost. I noticed that there is some trend, you know, promotion of certain organizations, to are defense or military alliances to give them higher weight or so, and that has some fans what push it and I suspect it is motivated or represent someone's private views or wishes but that is not for encyclopedia. We here don't do any promotion or advocacy so. For me it is pretty clear, there is the article and article topic and eventual talk page for consensus and that is it. Nubia86 (talk) 17:05, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
