Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello M.alnoor, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to House of Sabah have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page.

  • The website in question, http://www.da.gov.kw, states "© - 2017. Al-Diwan Al-Amiri. All rights reserved.", and the material which you added was an almost exact copy/paste of content from that website. Thank you. Begoon 10:12, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Dear Sirs,

I am consultant and wish to seek the process of listing a bio of living person on Wikipedia, I would like to know what is the template and the rules and regulations that I need to be in compliance.

Please help me with following the template and the process of compliance.

M.alnoor (talk) 10:00, 6 June 2018 (UTC) Kind regards, Dr. Mohammed AL NOOR[reply]

Dear Sir,
I will be your assistant today and I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.
Biographies of living persons are subject to the rules and regulations listed on the following page: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons.
Wikipedia will only accept articles on persons who meet our notability standards as outlined on the following page: Wikipedia:Notability (people). I hope that the person you would like to write about meets these standards but I would like to prepare you for the possibility that he or she doesn't, in which unfortunate case we would not be able to host an article on that person.
The best way to list a bio of a living person is by creating a draft using our Article Wizard that will guide you through the process. The Article Wizard can be accessed on the following page: Wikipedia:Article wizard.
If you require further assistance, please ask and I will answer as quickly as I can.
Kind regards,

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Help me![edit]

Dear Sirs, I am relatively new to Wikipedia, and very fond of its noble mission and thus making donation with monthly amount. However, as I am still amateur and new user, i find it very confusing on how to draft and upload articles on Wikipedia. I am international lawyer by profession and love writing, i have two areas of interest for writing:

1. Biography of living people 2. International law and global affairs

Please help me with on how I can place articles covering the two above areas. i have drafted an article and is placed in my sandbox as a draft.

Thank you in advance.

kind regards,

AL Noor

Wikipedia content should be a summary of what reliable sources that are independent of the subject have reported about it. For living people, newspapers or reputable magazines usually make good sources. For law topics, textbooks or peer-reviewed scholarly papers might be better sources. We should summarize in our own words (to avoid copyright issues) what the sources report, and we should cite the sources. That's the basic principle of writing on Wikipedia. A side effect of this principle is that Wikipedia considers a topic "notable" enough for an article only if it has received significant coverage in such reliable independent sources - otherwise we simply don't have enough that we can summarize.
I have added a messagebox with a "Submit your draft for a review" button to your sandbox. However, at a glance I'd say that significant cleanup and improvement is necessary before a reviewer would accept that draft: The tone is promotional, many of the references are not independent, some don't mention the subject of the draft at all. Yet others don't support the specific sentences they're cited for or mention Mubarak Abdullah Al-Sabah only in passing without providing meaningful information about him. A tag has been placed on File:= H.R.H. Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
