Pace of additional edits to Fund for the Public Interest page

Hi MJL-

Thank you very much for your help with recent edits to the Fund for the Public Interest page. I would like to propose more changes but want to do it at a pace that is reasonable for you. Can you give me guidance on how often is ok for me to propose edits?

@CleanWater17: Hey there!
Basically, how often you should propose edits essentially comes down to wiki-politics.
Technically, you can propose edits as much as you want, but practically speaking that isn't true. In general, COI and paid editors are not particularly well liked on Wikipedia due to stuff like this because he would game the system and stonewall any negative change. You can see what I mean with this casebook example of what not to do.
To get back to the main question, I would say you should feel comfortable proposing edits as they get done (or get rejected). One method you may want to employ would be forking the article to Talk:Fund for the Public Interest/COI proposal or something. Then you could just request that your draft just be adopted wholesale.
By the way, I highly recommend uploading content to Wikimedia Commons (which doesn't require paid editing disclosure). A picture of where you work and anything else you can provide would be extremely helpful (See my comments here for more info). If you upload a picture you think looks really nice and would help illustrate the article better, then I can put post there.

@MJL: Thanks for the advice. I'm aware that as a COI editor I'm somewhat persona non grata, so I've been moving slowly on edits. I feel like the feedback I've gotten previously was to keep the proposed edits small and bite-sized, though my instinct is to present larger chunks at a time, as you suggest. I do have a photo that I was trying to figure out how to upload and will push ahead with that, too. I'll flag for you when it is ready. CleanWater17 (talk) 00:33, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
@CleanWater17: If it wasn't obvious, I have a lot of sympathy for COI editors in general. I think it is a lot easier to just avoid topics I could have a COI in, but my heart goes out to people who try to make it work anyways. For you, I have double sympathy, though. Working for the Fund was extremely brutal, but I think I came out of the job a better canvasser for it. I certainly know at least that I would never have been able to even consider running for re-election IRL without that experience. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 00:44, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Donnie Smith

Hello, how are you, i was wondering if we can do an article for Donnie Smith, we have a listing for him on article List of surviving silent film actors, he is one of the rare silent film stars in early Hollwood silent's that are still with us, thought there is no linked article for him, he only appeared in 4 films that where in the film shorts series Our Gang theatrical releases, they later where sold to television networks in syndication and where broadcast as "The Little Rascals", there is not so many references for him, the one linked is fo r a website called Lordheath.com, however this is user generated, it chronicles films in the series as well as the films that where released by Hal Roach studio's including the franchise Laurel and Hardy and Charley Chase series's — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.229.8 (talk) 05:34, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't think we'll be able to meet WP:NACTOR with just four films. Therefore, what I did was make a redirect titled Donnie Smith (actor) which will lead to a section on his brother's page. About the blogger/occupation thing, my own personal opinions aside, the important takeaway from that dispute is to always breathe and avoid getting into a edit war. Hmm, I think you are right that there was a clear MOS:OVERLINK issue. I just would be more careful and make sure to use the "show preview" feature to ensure you don't add unintentional mistakes. Perspective on agendas

If you were advocating against "get rid of the all trans people's birth names completely" that'd be one thing. However, you have clearly stated that your position is that birth names should always be included. To be honest, I personally find that stance absurd because we don't even do that for birth dates and places, so why should birth names be any different? Honestly, if it is someone outside of the issue, I'm calm and fine with them. My issue is primarily with someone in the issue or an outside person who tries to takeover. My issues have been with Snoogans as he has issues with TE. MrX and I have had issues with him trying to take over the situation without finding out what was going on. Add on my attempts to get the situation focused and there just not being an agreement on getting there. We got the article re-titled which I agreed with, outside of that we haven't gotten far. I don't intend to cause any issues with people. It is just frustration with the lack of effort to improve the article in the face of efforts to just get rid of it. I've always been blunt with my views on here. It is only way my historical discussions have gotten done when being straightforward got the ball rolling.--WillC 16:12, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

I Think before we add th einfobozes, can we go back and fix the other articles first, firstly of Virginia McLaurin, who we stated SHOULD get recognition for her contributions not only as a supercentenarian , but to humanity and society, adding to list [[List of centenarians), in the selection ACTICVISTS, NO-PROFIT LEADER, AND PHILANTHROPISTS) (2) Could we please with your help create a page for Dwarf actor Harry Earles from The Wizard of Oz a special entry. Yes, sorry I just got distracted with watching YouTube when I woke up this morning. Also, some user apparently called me a sockpuppet last night. That was a bit odd since I am clearly am not a sock puppet and was reporting that Sock puppet to administrators.
(1) Sounds good with Virginia McLaurin (I'll do it now).
(2)Harry Earles sadly does not meet WP:NACTOR, so the article would likely be deleted.
(3) I have access to some newspapers now that I didn't before, so I'll see what I can find on Allan Rowe.
(4) Glad that worked out!
(5)Oof, getting a that little star has not been something I have ever even came close to achieving in my time on Wikipedia. I'm not too worried about the sockpuppetry thing. It's confusing if nothing else is all.
I'll be honest and say that I don't think those two articles should exist either. Honestly, I probably should nominate them for deletion or at least redirect them to the main article. They're not particularly notable as individuals, but they are rather notable as a group.

Part of it's my fault because when we first met, I think it was 3:40am for me. I still do that a lot, and I kinda spoil you with how often I stay up to make edits lol! Hello, thank you fo your message, yes see how you go merging the articles, for the 2 members on the Doll/Earles family, the dolls where a close-knit family who ate, lived and performed together, did you know they actually had a house in California, that was fitted out exclusively as a Dollhouse, with all the furnishing's and fitting's custom designed to accommodate them comfortably,. They had a successful run in sideshows like Ringling Brothers and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and performed at such venue as Coney Island, it was only really Harry Earles who became mega famous and had the most successful career in films, so i don't know why the other's were given special articles. Thank-you for your tidying and cleaning up of the articles however, i like the way you do things so professionally and with so much clarity, i think that's why your Charles P. Roland article received much praise. Will get back with them infoboxes to update. Hi MJL,

As the heading suggests, I thought I would share with you this recent amendment to one of my MfD !votes as a potentially creative alternative to deletion in the MfD discussion for User:Bryan.Wade. Policy-wise, there is no, as far as I'm aware, decision to support deletion, which is why I supported "keep" originally. However, I fundamentally have a problem with editors displaying wiki awards like Vanguard Editor to which they're not entitled and which seem like "stolen wiki valor" to me. So, examining the editor's diffs and assuming good faith, I thought moving to a subpage of the editor's userpage is the best solution here. What do you think? Feel free to peer review my comment(s), if you wish.

@Liz: Well basically, as you can see here, Jehochman was using that category as a redlink. I figured someone would have said something after a month. Since Jehochman was both the closing administrator and the only user with that category, I figured its use was intentional. Howdy hello! By filmography, I suspect you mean a formal chart/table. Creating a filmography is not a simple undertaking, you ought take a look at WP:FILMOGRAPHY, and view the source code of the tables. Do you have a set of sources that discuss her filmography? Yes, usually when a filmography is added and uploaded to a article it is more common than not, a formal table, that denotes the name of the production, the year and the role the actor/actresses played, of course filmography not only denotes the film they may have appeared but also television roles, internet roles, voice over for screen and video games etc. Like an example a filmography section for actress Judy Garland, if however there are numerous credits the filmography may beon a seperate page like Laurel and Hardy for example, which would also link to a seperate article of there solo acting appearances. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.229.8 (talk) 21:39, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for removing that. FWIW, I know what you mean, but we just aren't permitted to use words like that about specific living individuals no matter what they're guilty of. If Hitler was alive, you wouldn't be allowed to call him a dirt bag, you'd just have to call him a 'Fascist leader who was personally responsible for the torture and murder of several million men, women and children', and just hope that people would read between the lines and infer that you don't think he was a particularly nice chap.
By the way, I find your 'safe mediation space' idea quite interesting. I had a similar idea a couple of months back, but it was going in a slightly different direction - I thought about opening a 'Pub', where people could unwind, blow off steam, talk nonsense and chew things over in an informal manner. I am not feeling unwelcome here. Nor do I feel that everyone is harassing me. There is a group of editors yes, and then we know that ANI is not TEAHOUSE so I was prepared. There are a lot of "non admin" commenters at ANI who should look for something else to contribute.
Yes, I can see how he can be acting, and this is not a new revelation. MJL, Calling a person ridiculous or his AfD (which BTW have no glaring errors) as ridiculous is not "simply an innocent comment". Will I run to ANI asking for a block for it, obviously not. It was an uncalled for remark and the editor was made aware of it using the community accepted way of standard template. Rookie mistake made by a veteran editor of 16 years ? This is the first time I am hearing about a rookie with "only" 16 years of experience. Again having been editing here for 16 years it is hard to believable he is unaware of WP:ACDS, and even if he was, the whole point of the alert is to click it and read it. If the users are not reading then the process/template needs improvement. He could have asked questions on DS alert if he considered it some sort of warning. The attempt to mediation started on the wrong foot and I would also add badly mediated. MJL ended up giving the DBigXray haters yet another platform to continue their vitriol and campaign of hate against DBigXray and take potshots at him, after the ANI was closed without their desires being fulfilled. As I see it, they participated there with an intention to disrupt it, with what they had essentially been doing at the ANI thread, and then put all the blame of its failure on DBigXray. It is obvious (as was disclosed later) that the page was being used as a "forerunner to the next ANI thread" to get their wishes against DBigXray fulfilled. --DBigXrayᗙ 08:58, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Listen, I consider you a wikifriend. I cannot overstate that enough. In fact, the entire point of the mediation, flawed as it may be, was to bail you out of the last AN/I thread to give you time to think clearly. I know you are a good person and a net positive, but DBigXray you are just so stubborn sometimes.
Absolutely no one will file an AN/I report against if you just said you were sorry for how you acted and sought to make amends. If I, a 21-year-old kid, can find the room in my heart to forgive the people who called for me to be indefinitely blocked, followed me to other projects, threatened real life retaliation for my actions on wiki... if I can forgive all that... then why can't you forgive the others who you say wronged you here? –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 16:04, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
The feedback was a frank one without mincing words. I do strongly believe that you started the page with good intention trying something that you felt could work, and I know that you have already heard from others on their user talk about the rules. Not sure what is giving you an impression that my thoughts are muddied, no they are very clear. Regarding the comments on stubbornness, I consider myself a reasonable person and looking at my comments on AfDs and content disputes, you will find me frequently striking my previous comments and often I even go as far as making a complete U-turn, with respect to me earlier positions when during the course of discussion new facts and evidence emerge that I was previously not aware of. Since you have not reviewed the entire case and the diffs let me tell you that there was nothing in this case for me to say sorry about and I do believe that I owe an apology for the conduct of these users named on ANI. To give you a couple of examples, Leprivark considers that the insults to me came in response to my AfD noms, that is just factually wrong, the fact remains that I was attacked without any provocations frm my side, second example was about the scores of deletion templates on Soman's page. Leprivark continued saying, that I was incorrect and there weren't as many deletion notices, on his page as I had been claiming, you just need to look into the talk page history or the recent bot archive pages, (that Soman has not linked from his userpage for unknown reasons), to find the "scores" of deltion notices. Talking about forgiveness, if you look at my reply to DJM, I already prayed for their wellbeing, what makes you think that I have not already forgiven them for what they did to me ? --DBigXrayᗙ 16:28, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Without any explicit confirmation that you have indeed reviewed the case in its entirety, I can only make assumption based on what you have said and what you have not said. Regarding your point that banning him will escalate, that is your perspective to look at it. It has already escalated to what it already is and if it escalates further from here, then it was destined to go that way regardless of my ban. Based on whatever was said and whatever was not said, and more stuff that I found after digging around (that I did not speak of yet), I made a final decision after assessing the pros and cons of every thing that might happen after I did what I did. Interesting fact, as far as I can remember he is the only Wikipedia user right now who I have banned from my user talk. This obviously doesn't mean he is in any way worst that I have seen in this case or encountered throughout my editing history, it only means that I have determined (based on existing facts) that any future interaction between him will only lead to heat and no benefit to wikipedia, accordingly I did what I see is best, for our mutual peace of mind. I want to put it on record that my actions were not influenced by any bust-up between DBigXray and InedibleHulk (whom I interact with a lot), because I only learnt of those on 16 February 2020 (had I known earlier, I would have said something).     @DBigXray: To me, it seems that Djm-leighpark is upset that you and S. M. Nazmus Shakib several articles in a series for deletion. There is nothing wrong inherently with Djm-leighpark saying "I think that was unfair."
    Look, I mapped out how many Indian politics-related AFDs between you both in the last two months, and it's kinda excessive even if successful.   • Calling it upset is a massive understatement. He is badmouthing others blatantly violating WP:HARASS and WP:ASPERSION and using it as an excuse to reclaim deleted articles.
  • I have no back channel means of communication with that user and it is absolutely inappropriate to imply or accuse of that.
  • I am not responsible for what the other user does on Wikipedia. If you find his afDs problematic, go hang them, for all I care, but don't blame me for something that I have not done.
  • Similarly who comments in an AfD is not something I can be held responsible for.
  • A lot of these political SPAMs must not have been created or allowed to linger, but some of these creators have wP:autopatrolled flag and the creation of these articles is a massive misuse of Autopatrol.
  • I stand by each and every AfD that I have nominated or commented upon. And if you want to discuss any I can respond to your questions.--DBigXrayᗙ 15:46, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Uh oh...your page showed up in my watchlist, so I checked out your userpage, noticed your commonly used templates, and that {{nac}} is supposed to be substituted. I've been transcluding it! I feel terrible, but, evidently, I see it's got 4,872 transclusions and only probably 5-10 of those are mine (at most). Is that something that we could use AWB for to substitute those incorrect transclusions, and is this worth fixing? On a priority scale, how critical would you rank it (10 being hyper critical; 1 being eventually)?

@Dmehus: I'll be honest and say straightforward that I have been willfully transcluding the template with complete disregard to the template's documentation. Therefore, in my humble opinion, I'd rate it a 0. Transcluding practically never causes any errors, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 05:26, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
MJL, that makes me feel better knowing you've done the same thing. Honestly, I feel like transcluding this template is actually a better way to go, so that any updates to the template are automatically updated. Thank's for your assistance i di think like you,that the image/picture of Queenie Ashton was in the archives, however regarding again Virginia McLaurin, was apparently remove titled "Virginia McLaurin volunteering in 2015, so have re-added the previous, "Virgina McLauin Smiling" let me know if this is fine and by the way a lovely pic of her, the picture had to be removed because it is not on the wikipedia sister site project the wikimedia commons, hence not in the public domain, because it was taken from the website Flickr which are apparently private and/or licensed image/s, unfortunately the site in itself has apparently came under fire on several occasions for breaching copyright infringements federal laws. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.35.147 (talk) 01:26, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

I like you article on the Australian TV series Homicide, and congratulation's on it, yes i like you like to know the edisops on a specific seriesi think they should do that for more , even in filmography's i like to list the episode that someone has been in. now regarding the MarginHines aarticle, i see now see it is not actually a stub as such,as long as it is encyclopedia, could you please add those 2 films extra i asked of previous, just a side note how did you like the picture of Virginia McLaurin, could you please addsome infoboxes Henri Szeps, Geoffrey Atherden andd Martin Vaughan, oops forgot also Grahame Bond

WikiCup 2020 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 57 contestants qualifying. We have abolished the groups this year, so to qualify for Round 3 you will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with a featured article, five good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 895 points.
  • England Gog the Mild came next with 464 points, from a featured article, two good articles and a number of reviews, the main theme being naval warfare.
  • United States Raymie was in third place with 419 points, garnered from one good article and an impressive 34 DYKs on radio and TV stations in the United States.
  • Somerset Harrias came next at 414, with a featured article and three good articles, an English civil war battle specialist.
  • Pirate flag CaptainEek was in fifth place with 405 points, mostly garnered from bringing Cactus wren to featured article status.
  • The top ten contestants at the end of Round 1 all scored over 200 points; they also included United States L293D, Venezuela Kingsif, Antarctica Enwebb, England Lee Vilenski and Nepal CAPTAIN MEDUSA. Seven of the top ten contestants in Round 1 are new to the WikiCup.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. In Round 1 there were four featured articles, one featured list and two featured pictures, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. Between them, contestants completed 127 good article reviews, nearly a hundred more than the 43 good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Contestants also claimed for 40 featured article / featured list reviews, and most even remembered to mention their WikiCup participation in their reviews (a requirement).

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
