Declaring possible conflict of interest[edit]

Hi. I’ve added some information on my user page to declare a possible conflict of interest. Is that information sufficient?

I’m an archivist an intend to update pages with links to archives and manuscripts on Wiki Commons. Some of this may be during working hours.

MagicPie97 (talk) 23:16, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions. Yes, that declaration should be fine. I'll put your talk page on my watchlist, keep an eye on things, and chip in if anybody complains. Schwede66 00:27, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Location for next Wellington Meetup[edit]

Kia ora, I'm letting all those that have attended during last few Wellington meet ups know that the location for the next two meet ups has changed. The location for the Wellington Meetup 17 August 2019 and Wellington Meetup 31 August 2019 is now in the Alexander Turnbull Library Reading Room, Level 1, National Library. The National Library net.work space area will be closed for building work from 12 August. See the meet up pages for more information. Looking forward to seeing you there. Photo of Chief Archivist[edit]

Hi MagicPie97. The photo on Archives New Zealand of Richard Foy can't be used as it hasn't been released under an appropriate licence. My reading of the site copyright statement indicates it is Crown Copyright and not a CC BY licence.

PS I would dearly love photos of all the Chief Archivists in the background of this photo to be available [1] so I could add to the Archives NZ Wikipedia page. If you're able to get permission to take a good photo(s) and release under a CC BY licence I will add them (either on Commons or your Flickr account, which is fabulous by the way)!
PPS I haven't had a chance recently to continue editing the Archives NZ page, but if you or your colleagues have any suggestions and good references, add to the talk page and I'll incorporate.

Hi @David Nind: I’ll be back in the office next Tuesday and will see what I can do. I’m check if we have any digital images of those CA photos.

The website is ok for re-use as this page states https://archives.govt.nz/copyright

I added some archway material recently and added cc2.0 plus a link to this page. All blacks images from 1924/5.

MagicPie97 (talk) 09:15, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@David Nind:

In cases where we have already published archival material on the archives.govt.nz website or have made it digitally available on Archway, it is covered by a Creative Commons BY 2.0 license, unless otherwise stated. You are then welcome to use it without seeking permission.

Cheltenham, Manawatu moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Cheltenham, Manawatu, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ōtaki Health Camp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/eyewitness/audio/2018663001/new-zealand-health-camps-under-the-gunn. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. February 2020[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Edward VIII abdication crisis, as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Celia Homeford (talk) 08:02, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear. You need to be careful with that; a copyright violation is one of the more serious issues that can happen. Any queries please be in touch (here's good). Given that, through your work, you may be close to those who work for the Ministry of Culture & Heritage, maybe you could initiate a conversation about their licensing. It does not seem sensible to restrict commercial reuse of historic biographies. Schwede66 23:15, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 20[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Churchill Julius, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Richmond and Linwood Cemetery (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

pictures at Chinese in Samoa[edit]

These were about Dutch India (zh:荷屬印度) and Satsuma (zh:薩摩); although, the first one is odd as Dutch India ended in 1825 while the document says it's from 1901, and the place mentioned is Dutch "緬鴉魯施里美士", located in "蘇門朥打"—no Google hits. (Perhaps 蘇門朥打 is a mistake for 蘇門打臘 Sumatra, located in zh:荷屬東印度 Dutch East Indies, but that would be a terrible mistake to make twice on a document...)

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
