Report Errors Here
Hello Ogre, the sign said report errors here, so here I am. I noticed in my watchlist that you deleted: File:Sundown at Eastland Ranch.JPG because there was a copy on commons. Just to let you be aware: I see no deletion, and no attempt made or tag to achieve it. Perhaps I will put an "now commons" tag there. Thanks-Pocketthis (talk) 15:32, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
I'll leave it alone, because when I put the tag there, it wants to save it to the commons version. Perhaps you did successfully delete it, and it just hasn't stuck yet. Sorry to bother you. I'm commenting on an area I'm not an expert in. Thanks-Pocketthis (talk) 15:54, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Pocketthis: if that sort of thing happens, you can fix it by "purging" the page by appending a parameter to the URL (see File:MediaWiki-Purging-URL.png). Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:41, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
db-f8
Just a quick question about {{db-f8}} - is this edit for the backlog still needed? I ask because it's causing duplication of templates for NowCommonsReview. Avicennasis @ 21:14, 10 Tishrei 5776 / 21:14, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Avicennasis: it is not needed anymore. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:42, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

Transwiki of Attribution license
I'm not sure whether there's an automated or semi-automated solution to this, but the {{Attribution}} license template is constructed differently here and at Commons, which necessitates manual cleanup (at least when using FTCG or the other tools that I'm aware of). The main problems seem to come when anyone has used a string in the template to specify the author or the attribution text. When an en:wikipedia user is specified, the template ends up linking to a Commons user page instead of a userpage here. The attribution text block at Commons requires the use of "|text=" and doesn't here. I was trying to imagine if the cleanup.js script could rectify this - perhaps by converting the license template to "self|attribution" if "own work" is specified in the source, and than prefacing any other text in the template with the "text=" parameter. Or perhaps it would be better to have a bot grind through all the Attribution licenses here and standardize them with the Commons license format, if that is even possible. I know you're busy but was curious about your thoughts. Cheers! Kelly hi! 08:48, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- Just noted another annoying problem at Commons - when "Attribution" is used inside "self", it fails to grab and display the "text" field from the self template. This is a problem that also occurs inside the "cc-by-sa-3.0" field when the license is added as a result of the license migration from "GFDL-with-disclaimers". Kelly hi! 09:01, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Kelly: the attribution problem is one I'll have to think about. There may be some circumstances in which I can make cleanup TS do this task, which would be ideal because the bot will catch uploads which a human never sees. Fortunately it's not a very big deal anymore with SUL. Anyway, I don't actively maintain JS anymore unless there is a particularly obnoxious bug fix. It may not be the most user friendly but I think it's the best for everyone.
- Anyway I don't understand the other problem. Could you back up 20 paces and try again? I may not know something you assume I know. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 02:18, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
Giant Eagle and Dick's Sporting Goods
Hi Magog, great work and thanks so much for your contributions. I noticed that the store location maps for Giant Eagle and Dick's Sporting Goods are a bit dated, if you have the time please make a recent map for both. Love your work and hope life has been good for you! Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 02:44, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Marketdiamond: I will get to work on it. Due to changes in their websites, it will take a bit to figure out how to scrape the data. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 22:38, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Marketdiamond: this is done. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 04:42, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

- @Marketdiamond: the problem is that website owners routinely provide the ability to find a store by location, because it's what the public and business needs are. But they have little incentive to provide a list of the public of all their stores. So it involves some tedium as well as some (legal and ethical) hacking. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 20:41, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

User:OgreBot's {{db-redirnone}} tagging
I've noticed that User:OgreBot is placing speedy tags on broken (image?) redirects. That makes a lot of sense, but it's deleting the existing content of the page when it does so (e.g. here), which is a little confusing (it makes it look like the G8 deletion is due to a missing image as opposed to a broken redirect, making the tag harder to patrol). It's not hugely important, but if you have the opportunity and it's not too difficult, could you make the bot add the tag to the page in question, rather than blanking the page when it adds the tag? --ais523 05:41, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Ais523: yes, I certainly can do that. In truth, I'm supposed to catch it before any other admins do, although it looks like sometimes I don't. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:01, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Milano Pablo, etc
Hey old friend. Good to see you over there still checkusering. I miss the tools a bit. I'm trying to get my old account back through WMFOffice, for license reviewing and whatnot. Hopefully they can help me repair my password scramble... Otherwise, I'll have to see if I can get my userrights transferred to this new account. BTW, that was a Ukrainian proxy open at port 80 that I used at COM/BP... :P Jeff the Obscure 02:42, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Well, I could block the open proxy, but it's a losing battle. Hell, the the Iranian government can't even find all the open proxies on their own borders. Also, I hope you're feeling better. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 02:51, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm a bit better (I've gained 40 pounds over the last two months thanks to a new medication; the medication helps me sleep too, though I wake up with the Sahara Desert in my sinuses and throat ;). I was down to 6'0/130... I know what you mean about open proxies. I blocked range after range and never saw even the slightest reduction in spambot creation. Hopefully I can get my pw back, but if not, maybe I can email you with evidence of my id, for a rights transfer here and at Commons... We'll see. I've emailed James Alexander and another staff member. Jeff the Obscure 03:13, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Jeff the Obscure: I would be happy to confirm that something is your email or not for the Wikimedia Foundation. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:30, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- I got an email from James earlier tonight. It looks like I should have INC back pretty soon. I caught him on vacation, so I don't mind waiting a bit. The two cat pics I showed on COM:AN are incontrovertible ID evidence IMO, along with what I've already provided James via email. They were enough to get my rights put on this account over at Commons. I did a couple hundred license reviews this afternoon to shake off the rust... Jeff 05:14, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Block evasion
Hi. User:Pbfreespace3 is evading your block with sockpuppet IPs. There is a case open here: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Pbfreespace3. The SPI presents a definitive proof of this. “This is because User:Pbfreespace3 used one of his IPs by mistake (was not logged in) when he was continuing a conversation on a talk page. He then “corrected” his mistake by replacing his IP by his user account signature...” Since you are familiar with him, you may want to pick up the case and close it (no checkuser was requested). You might give User:Pbfreespace3 an indefinite block for sockpuppetry (block evasion). But you’re the admin, not me, so you know better…
Respectfully, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.123.247.27 (talk) 12:30, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, that's definitely block evasion. Now may I ask why you also are cloaking yourself with anonymity and IP hopping? What is your screenname? This too is a form of dishonest editing. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:01, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

French FoP
I'm trying to understand French FoP, or lack thereof - are relatively simple buildings like File:Font de Gaume visitor's centre.jpg or File:Lascaux operations room.jpg OK for transfer to Commons, or should they be marked as {{FoP-USonly}}? Kelly hi! 16:08, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Your mentorship with me and recent problem
I did tell you my issue (#Talk:Full Service (book), and I have yet to see your response. I wonder whether you are currently committed to being my mentor any longer. Also, I have another issue: some editor banned me from his talk page for five days. The punishment is not that major. I tagged one of his non-free video uploads for deletion because I deemed it as replaceable by free content. I suggested having him do free rendition for out-of-copyright song. He didn't take it well and banned me from his talk page for five days. Shall I appeal to the ban, comply to the ban, or what? --George Ho (talk) 21:09, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- @George Ho: you're right. I've been lax. Sorry! I would definitely suggest a few things:
- Your approach comes across as combative ("Apologize for kindly asking a ridiculous question"), so don't be surprised if people respond in kind. People put a lot of effort into their work, so when you tag it for deletion, they're going to be salty already. No need to throw gasoline on the fire.
- I believe you are correct about NFCC in this instance. That clip would not pass NFCC#8 and possibly NFCC#1.
- Magog the Ogre (t • c) 01:12, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Empty categories
Be careful when deleting categories as empty. Category:Wikipedia files with a different name on Wikimedia Commons as of 25 October 2015, which you deleted, looks empty at inspection, but contains File:Freedom Monument Riga.jpg and possibly other files, as you can see by looking at the file information pages. This is apparently a software bug (see c:COM:VP#Cat-a-lot not working well). --Stefan2 (talk) 18:09, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, something strange is going on. For instance, I reviewed File:Coldrum Long Barrow side.jpg recently but it's not showing up in Category:Wikipedia files reviewed on Wikimedia Commons by Kelly. Kelly hi! 19:02, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- The file I mentioned should appear in three different "NowCommons" categories according to the file information page, but doesn't appear in any of them when looking at the category pages. That said, I'm more concerned if Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as attack pages is missing pages than if "NowCommons" categories are missing files, as attack page deletion is more urgent. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:38, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Kelly and Stefan2: there's definitely a category bug introduced with the latest version of Mediawiki. I noticed it too (see my own post at WP:VPT). I hadn't realized that it was omitting files like this though. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 02:43, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

I ran into the same editor who had disputes with others about Aaron Schock. He thinks of me as someone not able to cooperate with; he even said so in his user page. --George Ho (talk) 06:47, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- @George Ho: it looks like he let his frustration get the best of him. I'm sure you understand that many people don't know how to deal with someone who has autism, either emotionally or mentally, and I'm sorry you had to hear that. You did the right thing by being honest.
- If you sense people getting frustrated with you, I suggest that you ask them to articulate precisely why they believe what they believe, even if it's something that seems obvious to them and shouldn't need an explanation. It won't work every time, but it will work in some. I will ask Engleham to do this if he is able to deal with the frustration of the situation. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 01:04, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Regarding the last statement—how he deals with my situation—shall I or you ask? George Ho (talk) 02:12, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- I will ask this time if I get a chance, because he's already angry, and in general angry people running from mastadons won't listen anymore. But in the future, you can ask. Like I said, not everyone will be amenable, but it's worth a try. I also recommend apologizing and making it seem like your fault instead of their fault (even if it's no one's fault, per se), and you will help bring down their defenses. Also, the angrier the person gets, the less likely they will be to listen, so it's better to try earlier on if possible.
- All of this is just an educated guess on my part, it may or may not work. Good luck. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 02:49, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Regarding the last statement—how he deals with my situation—shall I or you ask? George Ho (talk) 02:12, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
I don't think removing comments will help him realize his errors. I want to confront him for ignoring considerations of living persons and of notabilities. However, he still antagonizes me, but I'll try my best to ignore him or discuss him (not with him) less. But what's your own decision: Will you either let this slide or report him? By the way, I'm not malicious, like Uriah Heep, and I believe that he appears either prejudiced or delusional. George Ho (talk) 03:52, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- @George Ho: well I suggest you get off your high horse. It's not your responsibility to reform anyone, and even if it were, you aren't very good at it. That's only going to get you in more trouble. Please stick to the issues. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:37, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Some pictures
File:South Sudan foreign relations and recognitions.png and File:Piedmont Provinces.png were copied to Commons long ago under the same name, and updates have since then been made to both projects independently of each other. What do we do here? Merge the images? Or keep them separated? The second file has different colours in the most recent revision, while the first file lists different facts (meaning that at least one of them provides wrong information).
Also, is File:Kit left arm est1214a.png pixel-to-pixel identical to c:File:Kit left arm est1214a.png? --Stefan2 (talk) 17:44, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Stefan2:
- File:South Sudan foreign relations and recognitions.png should remain separate, as it has a different license, and the original was never the base on Commons.
- File:Piedmont Provinces.png should be forked even though they come from the same source.
- File:Kit left arm est1214a.png is not a bit by bit equivalent, but the pixels appear to be equivalents. It looks to me like the Commons version was taken from the local version.

Racist Vandal Sockpuppet is back
Hello, Im reporting the official coming back of the highly racist User:Marvzi who is the sock master of User:Multi-gesture. If you dont remember then this is a summary :
You Blocked his puppet Multi-gesture in the aftermath of this case. Then you blocked his main account Marzvi for 24 hours after this report then you blocked him indefinitely but another admin objected User_talk:Magog_the_Ogre/Archive_32#User:Marvzi (which is weird since blocks are for persons not different accounts they have)
Then there was his multiple IP'S. Now he is back, reverting and editing the Rojava article
He made This edit to restore a text unrelated to Rojava and continued to make the article a battleground. I warned him after reverting him but he doesnt give a damn and reverted me calling my reverting of him a vandalism !!!. The text he has entered and called sourced information doesnt describe events that happened in Rojava !! yet he want it to exist. How long can he continue his behavior here !!!!!!.
I told him that I reported him to you. As usual, he didnt bother to discuss on the article talk page--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 02:24, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Attar-Aram syria: I thought I already blocked him indefinitely. He is proving yet again why he is unable to edit on here. All battleground and propaganda, no give and take. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 04:06, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

I tried to convince people to oppose posting one "ongoing" event on the Main Page, but opposition got rebutted, and someone else who voted also posted it, disregarding Opposition. However, the more I tried, the less convinced Supporters have been. Also, I turned what started as ongoing-only nomination into a blurb nomination by adding a blurb. One guy pointed out my supposed inconsistency. Actually, I was trying to sabotage the nomination and convince people to oppose, but administrators weren't convinced. I got college education, which is... my reluctant savior. But I've not cared much for education as much as Wikipedia. I've lost interest on DYK, and I'm losing interest on the press and ITN. Moreover, I've not found a close friend online here, but I've not found one good friend whom I can get to know. Well, Wikipedia is not a social network, but I still end up liking ITN less and less, even when I would vote for more obviously major events. --George Ho (talk) 02:07, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @George Ho: wait, what? You were trying to sabotage something? That sounds like WP:Disruptive editing. I may not have understood your statement, though. I will address your other questions after we get past this point. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 18:09, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't mean "sabotage"; I shouldn't have said that misleadingly. I turned the nomination from ongoing-only to a blurb nomination by adding a blurb, hoping to convince consensus to oppose. Then I voted oppose on the story and event as "Ongoing" in Main Page. --George Ho (talk) 18:12, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @George Ho: if you don't get support, then maybe it's because your idea isn't a good one. Try listening to why they tell you this rather than taking it personally. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 04:09, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

SwaK logo
Hi Magog,
Thank you for deleting the unnecessary non-free logo of Skeptics with a K when I was able to replace it with a CC logo on Commons. I noticed however that the logo in the English article had changed to its original size, and when I reduced it back to normal infobox size, a large blank space remained. Do you know what caused this and how to fix it? Greetings, Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 21:41, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Nederlandse Leeuw: it looks like you already got it? It was because English Wikipedia was naughty and used the base resolution rather than specifying it, so when Commons upgraded, it made the picture bigger. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 01:22, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- Haha, strange, it is ok right now. Well thanks anyway.:) Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 03:26, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
I think that there were three files under the same name and I moved two of them to Commons, but what happened to the third one? The deletion and undeletion log suggests that there was some confusion when you processed the F8 tags here. I thought that the file history was a bit confusing and wasn't sure if the third file would pass a {{subst:npd}} tag, so I never moved that one to Commons. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:43, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Stefan2: I undeleted and deleted again with a proper deletion log this time. I had some confusion between all the different versions. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 13:14, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- Nevermind, the file history is really confusing. I restored it as it looks like the author fixed the copyright information. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 13:15, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- What I noticed when I moved files to Commons was that the initial uploader uploaded an image credited to some 'Jeff Miller' who was not the original uploader, and used a copyright tag which would make the file subject to speedy deletion per WP:F3. After this, someone claimed to be 'Jeff Miller' changed the copyright tag to a public domain one. Later, the 'Jeff Miller' user uploaded two additional pictures of the building. The two pictures which had been uploaded by the 'Jeff Miller' user seemed to have credible own work claims, so I copied both to Commons, but I wasn't sure what to do with the initial file as I wasn't sure whether the picture would survive a 'no permission' tag. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:42, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Stefan2: he attributed it to a generic "Jeff Miller". Jeff560 came and edited the file to explicitly state that he was the author. Jeff560 lives near the location because he uploaded files later of the same edifice, and has continued to edit ever since. If the user was lying about the permission, he was going about it in a very unusual way. I might tag the image as NPD given that the user mentioned that Jeff was the owner of the GHS website, however, I couldn't find it on reverse Google Image search, or through Archive.org. I don't think it's necessary at this juncture. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 19:47, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

- Another tricky one is File:Kit left arm goldborder.png. One revision is on both Wikipedia and Commons, but the other revisions have minor differences. The one which is on both projects is 'subject to disclaimers' on Wikipedia, and there is no evidence that the user who uploaded the file to Commons had permission to remove the disclaimers. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:26, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Messing about with Arbuthnot Baronets.
When Sir William's brother was ennobled, Non. Wikipedia speculation occurred as to what coat of arms Her Majesty might be pleased to grant him. As a result the arms which have sat on that page for a long time. (Courtesy of Commons) have unaccountably been deleted (possibly 20151015) in svg form. Some error surely. Please would you restore the page to that which existed pre-Barony. Many thanks. Kittybrewster ☎ 05:10, 21 November 2015 (UTC) Kittybrewster ☎ 05:10, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

This is on Commons as File:Marvel Studios logo.jpg. Which old versions do you think that it would be safe to upload to Commons? [2] and [3] look fine, but I'm not sure about the light effects in [4]. There also seem to be old revisions which have been deleted. Maybe some of the old revisions should be split into separate files. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:55, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Stefan2: I think there is no right answer. Court rulings differ based on the competence of the court and jury and how they feel about the parties. We live in a world where Casey Anthony got off scot free and which a US circuit court flatly ignored US copyright law when it didn't like what it said. I'd say upload it if you personally think it's below the threshold, otherwise mark it as orfur. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 16:18, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
- I agree that the outcome of court rulings can be a bit random. Can you undelete the deleted revisions so that I can see if some of them should be on Commons? --Stefan2 (talk) 16:40, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

- I've uploaded three of the old revisions to Commons. I'd suggest deleting the versions which are on Commons under F8, update file usage and leaving the last revision on Wikipedia. One could argue that it is a different logo (and that it therefore shouldn't be merged with the files on Commons) and that the visual effects make it unfree. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:14, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

You deleted this as F8. Note that there is a different page, TimedText:God Save Our Homeland Ghana Instrumental.ogg.en.srt, which depends on this file. TimedText pages need to be copied over to Commons when a sound file is deleted under F8 as the subtitles otherwise stop working. --Stefan2 (talk) 01:37, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

- Using HTML, check if Special:PrefixIndex/TimedText:Filnemame.ogg returns anything, and if so, copy the content of those pages to Commons. With the API, you should be able to find the pages by using
action=query&list=allpages&apfrom=Filename.ogg&apnamespace=710

Hello Magog!
I have a question: If someone leaves their phonenumber in a sandbox, can we delete those pages? I would say that these examples fall under "Inappropriate or excessive personal information unrelated to Wikipedia" (WP:USERBIO). I have blanked them for now, but deleting them is probably better.
