RfA Thanks
[edit]
Mike's RfA Thanks Mailer diablo: Thanks very much for your support at my RfA. Unfortunately, it was clear that no consensus was going to be reached, and I have withdrawn the request at a final tally of 31/17/5. Regardless, I really appreciate your confidence in me. Despite the failure, rest assured that I will continue to edit Wikipedia as before. If all goes well, I think that I will re-apply in January or February. - Mike | Talk 04:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC) Thanks for your input!
[edit]Thank you for taking part in my RfA. The RfA was not successful, mostly because I did a pretty bad job of presenting myself. I'll run again sometime in the next few months, in the hopes that some will reconsider.
In the meantime, one of the projects I'm working on is A Wikimedia Administrator's Handbook. This is a wikibook how-to guide intended to help new administrators learn the ropes, as well as to simply "demystify" what adminship entails. If you are an administrator, please help out with writing it, particularly on the technical aspects of the tools. Both administrators and non-administrators are welcome to help link in and sort all of the various policies regarding the use of these tools on wikipedia in particular (as well as other projects: for example, I have almost no experience with how things work on wiktionary or wikinews). Users who are neither familiar with policy or the sysop tools could be of great help by asking questions about anything that's unclear. The goal is to get everything together in one place, with a narrative form designed to anticipate the reader's next question.
A second project, related but not entailed, is a book on wikimedia in general, with a history of how various policies evolved over time, interesting trivia (e.g., what the heck was "wikimoney" about?), and a history of how the wikimedia foundation itself came about and the larger issues that occurred during its history (such as the infamous "Spanish Fork").
Again, thanks for your input on the RfA, and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide for the handbook. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:34, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell administratur and now I are one (in no small part thanks to your support). Now that I checked out those new buttons I realize that I can unleash mutant monsters on unsuspecting articles or summon batteries of laser guns in their defense. The move button has now acquired special powers, and there's even a feature to roll back time. With such awesome new powers at my fingertips I will try to tread lightly to avoid causing irreversible damage and getting into any wheel wars. Thanks again and let me know whenever I can be of use.

Hey, I was hoping to get you opinoin on the subject of Chicken and Rice and Hallo Berlin
[edit]I have stated many counter-arguments in both and since AfD is not a vote, I was wondering what you think the ultimate consensus would be as of now. I personally feel that the keep argument is much stronger than the delete argument. Currently deletionist are fighting for the fact that the article is unreference, however I have already spend time referencing the article and removing uncited word weasels. I feel strongly for this subject since as a denizen of the tri-state area, I personally know the effects these carts have had on people. Valoem talk 05:34, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, I have cited 7 sources include the one from vendy awards which should be reliable. What other sources are they looking for? Is WP:RS the argument deletionist are holding against the vote keep? Because I believe I have disprove WP:OR and the information is WP:V. Valoem talk 17:43, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Thanks for your input on my (nearly recent) Request for adminship, which regretfully achived no consensus, with votes of 68/28/2. I am grateful for the input received, both positive and in opposition, and I'd like to thank you for your participation. Georgewilliamherbert 06:07, 16 November 2006 (UTC) Basic4gl
[edit]I just wanted to bring to your attention Basic4gl, which seems to have reappeared recently after Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Basic4gl a few weeks ago. As you can see I tried the {prod} procedure but that was quickly removed by an anonymous user. I'm not sure what the correct steps are to take next. --Ghewgill 10:21, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

RfA thanks
[edit]
Thank you for the Support I'd like to express my huge thanks to you, Mailer diablo, for your support in my recent RfA, which closed with 100% support at 71/0/1. Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:27, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your support!

A week ago I nominated myself, hoping to be able to help Wikipedia as an administrator as much as a WikiGnome. I am very glad many others shared my thoughts, including you. Thank you for your trust! Be sure I will use these tools to protect and prevent and not to harass or punish. Should you feel I am overreacting, pat me so that I can correct myself. Thanks again! [edit]Thanks for your message. You provided a link to List of Caulfield Grammar School people, I would rather you take a look at List of University of Southern California people. If AC should be in any notable alumni list, it should first be at USC. But surprisingly no, you can't find it there! It has never been an issue on USC, the college AC attended in the United States, the country with the greatest freedom of speech and where her porn was produced and distributed. Is there censorship at USC? Of course not, it's simply editorial judgement. Why then does the porn star's entry keep seeping into Singapore school articles, the Culture of Singapore, and Singapore pages? This is really weird, the only articles that porn star get listed as notable alumni are Singaporean schools. The only possibly reason I can think of (from the discussion thus far) is that teenage sgpedians are simply under-exposed to subculture and that a porn star from Singapore captures a certain amount of amazement or imagination on them, and they wish to broadcast it out loud. Anyway, don't worry too much about those discussion I had with others, there is no hard feeling. But these discussions are important; otherwise, Singapore would have been the only porn-star producer in the world, according to wikipedia's "Culture of X" pages. Cheers. --Vsion 05:38, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Re:Icecold1
[edit]Hello! Regarding Icecold1's list of sockpuppet: I attempted to create the page from the red link on his userpage, but I'm afraid I wasn't confident enough in my ability with Wikipedia software to create a "category" page. Nonetheless, he is an admitted sockpuppeteer of User:Ryancc, User:Alpha12 and User:Echo9. Evidence can be found here, and the suspected sockpuppets entry is here. I apologize for the confusion. -ryand 06:20, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- New day, new discovery, I guess. The templates section on WP:SOCK led me to believe that any abusive sock puppeteer could be tagged with the template. Sorry about that :/ -ryand 17:52, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

A Bad Dream
[edit]Hi, you recently deleted A Bad Dream after it was nominated for deletion. However, a user has recreated it. Is this a candidate for speedy deletion? I don't know the procedure for dealing with this.
Also, I would put good money on the recreater being a second account of user User:Fluence, who is causing trouble by making poor quality articles about his favourite band, being zealous about his own edits and their deletions, and using second accounts for his dirty work. He has already threatened to recreate the article before it was deleted. This is his pattern. If you could check the IP addresses and have a word with him if necessary, I would be very grateful. The Mekon 18:48, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- I just have to tell you Keanemusic.com (the official Keane site) has announced "A Bad Dream" being the next single so it's now legally an article on the Wikipedia. If you delete it again as you did hours ago I'd have to report you causing the deletion of an official single. Actually, I've never used another account than mine as The Mekon said. This user has been causing trouble around Keane for a while now as well as on another Wikipedia articles so I'd suggest rather having a word with him than me. So, basically, you'd be poor now Mekon. Keane keeps on growing on the Wikimedia. Axcan in Nahuatlatolli zanazini--Fluence 01:26, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Alan Brazier
[edit]Please reconsider your vote on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alan Brazier. I have uncovered some sources. he is a notable inventor, with many sources from the 1980's. The article just needs clean up etc.Obina 09:05, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Fair comment on the company web site being a biased source for the inventor. I still think we should keep this as a stub for a bit. A deleted stub is hard to improve. We need to be careful that Wikipedia does not become too biased against people who were notable before every newspaper was on line. Will take some time to find the sources. I have no particular passion for this page - it is just that inventors seem more notable than 3rd division soccer players. Thanks for considering anywayObina 18:20, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Discussion request
[edit]I noticed your remarks on Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Discuss and Vote; I would appreciate it if you could take a look at WP:DDV, and indicate if it accurately represents the way Wikipedia works (and feel free to reword it if it doesn't). Basically it states that AFD (etc) are not decided by vote count, and in general voting is discouraged (but not forbidden). Thanks. (Radiant) 10:47, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Proposed meetup: Singapore 3
[edit]Hi Mailer, hoped you enjoyed the meetup that we had on Friday.
By the way, the third Singapore Wikipedians' meetup will be held either on 10 March 2007 or on 11 March 2007 in Chaerani's residence, a piece of landed property in Queenstown, Singapore. An estimated ten to fifteen users in the Singapore Wikipedian community are expected to turn up. Please visit the meetup page to indicate your interest for attending this meetup. —Goh wz 07:01, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh, the humanity! I had my doubts about a second RfA, but even I couldn't have predicted the way it caught fire and inexorably drifted to the ground in flames, causing quite a stir on its way down. UCD YFG
[edit]Hi..
I wrote an article on the above which was deleted on the basis that it was a 'non notable' student organisation in one paticular college. While I would dispute the reasoning for this I accept the decision and I do understand there is a precedent set by other deletions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/University_College_Dublin_YFG
Perhaps in the interest of balance you could delete this article aswell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Barry_Cumann

Right or wrong
[edit]Hi. I just noticed: regarding your recent voting in the Steward election on Meta, specifically the candidate Cspurrier. Your edit summary indicates support (you used an "s"), but you opposed. Since there have been a couple of cases of accidental voting (opposing when the intention was to support, mainly), I thought you should know. Obviously, you needn't do anything if you indeed meant to oppose. Cheers, Redux 22:12, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

ArbCom voting
[edit]Thanks for you comment, but ... I was trying to get a response from the ArbCom candidates, not particularly you, and I don't think it's helpful that you seemingly "answered" my question for them on all 37 candidate questions pages. --Cyde Weys 22:29, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hrmm, I'm just wondering why you archived that above message less than twenty minutes after I put it here. I'll assume it was a mistake. Anyway, I've gone through and modified my question slightly to make it more clear that it's a question, and removed your responses to my question in the places it was as yet unanswered. As far as I can tell this is supposed to be question/answer with the candidates, and threaded discussion is discouraged. If you would like to ask the candidates your own question about voting you are free to do so, but it's not okay to go ahead and answer my question for the candidates everywhere, as I asking them individually, not you 37-times over. Thank you for understanding. --Cyde Weys 23:00, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the comments you are making. Since Cyde Weys' questions were actually requests (to not act) and not reqs for info, I asked him to move them to the talk page; alas, not in time. So far the candidates seem not to understand that their right and responisibility to vote is not voided by their candidacy. Jd2718 21:56, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
