HotNewHipHop not reliable?[edit]

I use HotNewHipHop regularly and I see nothing wrong with it. We can't easily distinguish it as a blog, as it's published by a media company and has various writers, so it's not a WP:SPS write-off. It's also not listed at WP:ALBUMAVOID, and I only see only one thread (with no replies) at WP:RSN asking it's reliable or not. Again, unless it's clearly a blog set up through Wordpress, is a student newspaper, looks like a site random music fans cobbled together and bought a .com domain for, or is already listed at WP:ALBUMAVOID, sometimes it's best not to declare to others in summaries that a source is not reliable. I've seen editors do it for sources that are actually recommended under WP:RSMUSIC; editors quite often claim Idolator is not reliable but it's under RSMUSIC as well. Ss112 08:36, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Someone did start a discussion asking about the reliability of HotNewHipHop at RSN [1] but it failed to get replies. I've never seen it used on any featured articles, but it might be reliable for GA purposes and in general. The only reason I removed it from the Glitter article is because its a GA (so I wanted to use the best possible sources), and more than five sources for the same thing feel WP:OVERKILL. I suppose it can be used in instances where a better source isn't available. Best, NØ 08:48, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: Also, there's no evidence of editorial oversight or a publication company on their About Us page. It reads like an advertisement.--NØ 09:06, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Plenty of sites' About Us pages read like an advertisement and don't talk about their editorial process. Doesn't mean it's a blog or not reliable. Ss112 13:20, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But those sites are associated with publishers and reliable media companies (eg: Viacom Media Networks, Prometheus Global Media). The about page of HotNewHipHop reads like a self-published blog, even its Wikipedia article does not specify who publishes the site. I'd be hesitant to use such a source in anything I nominate for GA or FA status. Its the site being reliable that needs to be proved, not it being unreliable. Also, it becomes clear upon reading the staff page that the contributors to this site are just regular hip hop fans with lists of their favorite artists but no list of qualifications or prior work.--NØ 13:25, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not even referring to sites associated with big publishers, and if you're referring to Billboard by naming Prometheus Global Media, Prometheus hasn't published Billboard in years. By linking to the staff page you've just proved the site has an editorial team. Your view that it's a blog is still unfounded—it's not got "powered by Wordpress" in its footer or some other obvious blog layout. Sure, it didn't need to be on the Glitter article but if you're about to start removing it everywhere you find it, I definitely have an issue with that, and I don't think I'd be the only one. I then think you would need to go to WP:RSN, which is what's that there for—for a consensus about a source being reliable or not. If you have concerns, you should take them up there, not attempt to set a precedent by removing it on one article. I don't have anything more to say. Ss112 13:59, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was gonna say. Please take it up on RSN and not here. I'm not sure how WordPress being the software used to design the website is supposed to make it reliable. As for the Glitter article, I only removed it because there were 5 more reputed sources available to source the same exact fact. This source is not used anywhere on featured articles (or even GAs?) so I'm gonna assume I'm not the only one who takes issue with its lack of editorial oversight and unexperienced staff. Anyway, I'm no expert and this is my talk page (not an official noticeboard), everything I'm stating here is just my opinion and not policy. I never said I'm gonna start removing it from every article so don't know where you got that. I'm still not convinced its a reliable source but what I think really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Please refer RSN. Have a great day!--NØ 14:10, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm stepping back in here to say you misunderstood what I said. I said the opposite of what you're claiming—being created using Wordpress and having a "powered by Wordpress" tag at the bottom would obviously make it a blog per WP:SPS and it doesn't have that. They probably already have some degree of editorial oversight with a team like that. Also, I don't know if you know how RSN works most of the time, but usually the editors who have concerns about sources go there. I am not going to seek consensus at a noticeboard for a site I don't have concerns with—to me, that's counterintuitive. And maybe FAs just haven't felt the need to use it. GAN requests[edit]

Hi again and thank you very much for passing "Taken by a Stranger". I wanted to ask you if you would have time to look into my two other GANs: Romanian Radio Airplay Chart and Romanian TV Airplay Chart? They're two relatively short article I've been waiting months to get reviewed. Just ignore this message if you don't have time... Cheers! Cartoon network freak (talk) 22:37, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I myself am stuggling to get my GANs Title (song) and MTrain Tour reviewed, truly a tough time for the pool of all GA noms which no one's bothering to review currently. I'll try to review more articles soon when I have time!--NØ 07:14, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Title (song)[edit]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Title (song) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Advice[edit]

I defended you recently so I'm not an advisory. Your talkpage management is coming across as harsh. If you want to clear stuff off your page, great, just do it quietly. Legacypac (talk) 07:09, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain 'quietly'? Legacypac. I'm really trying to be nice here despite a certain someone having been warned not to post here, yet I'm waking up every single day to a flamebait talk page message from them.--NØ 07:15, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Using edit summaries that flash across other editors watch lists feeds the dispute. Just clear without an edit summary and reduce the drama. I've not looked into the situation, just commenting on the optics of what you are doing. Legacypac (talk) 07:18, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I can do that, thanks for clarifying. I still laughed at the thought of someone assuming I 'followed' them to an article about the Billboard Hot 100 chart despite it being recently announced, and me being a pop music fan. That amount of bad faith is truly unheard of, lol.--NØ 07:22, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of awards and nominations received by Dua Lipa[edit]

Hello, I never called her awards useless. Think about it what would make a good introduction including awards like the Los40 Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards and Radio Disney Music Awards or Awards like the NME Awards, Grammy Awards and the BRIT Awards only which are considered important awards will make the page like more creditable and presentable. Rodrigo1198 (talk) 09:07, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you that we should trim the lead section. I think lets keep the Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, Video Music Awards, and the other more notable ones. I just don't agree with removing everything and keeping only the first sentence! Hence the restoration. Regards.--NØ 15:46, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One final question, Rodrigo1198, is there a reason you want the article to start with the sentence "Dua Lipa is an English singer and songwriter"? It reads awkwardly and doesn't give as good of a start to the article as "English singer and songwriter Dua Lipa has won 29 awards from 99 nominations." The latter type of wording is the one thats used at List of awards and nominations received by Taylor Swift, List of awards and nominations received by Katy Perry, and List of awards and nominations received by Meghan Trainor which are all featured lists.--NØ 16:46, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, go with that one instead, I created the page and left it like that as I didn't know how to start the introduction. I didn't mean remove everything but keep notable awards that qualify her as an good artist. Rodrigo1198 (talk) 11:01, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can also put that she made history with receiving five BRIT nominations by a female artist something like that. Rodrigo1198 (talk) 11:01, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Now the page sounds good! Rodrigo1198 (talk) 11:01, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Meghan Trainor), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Welcome to the 2019 WikiCup![edit]

Hello and Happy New Year!

Welcome to the 2019 WikiCup, the competition begins today. If you have already joined, your submission page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and we will set up your submissions page. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work during 2019, and which you have nominated this year, is eligible for points in the competition, the judges will be checking! Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! The judges for the WikiCup are Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email), Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Vanamonde93 (talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email). The WikiCup[edit]

As a WikiCup judge, I have removed your submission claiming points for the GA MTrain Tour. It does not qualify for the 2019 WikiCup because the substantial work on the article was done during 2018 and not during this year's contest. The WikiCup rules explain this in greater detail. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:50, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thats weird I wasn't aware of that rule. Thanks for judging this for us though, its a really fun contest and I have some featured content coming up that will get me points!--NØ 18:52, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cwmhiraeth, So does that mean this featured topic is not eligible for submission either since all of the individual articles were promoted last year? That would be highly unfortunate.--NØ 06:39, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the rule concerned is covered here. The basic requirement in general is that significant work should have been done on the article during the course of the contest. Featured and good topics are not an aspect of the WikiCup that I have come across much, so if in doubt, I suggest you submit the topic in the usual way and it will be properly looked at by a judge. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:55, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chart Data[edit]

I know Chart Data is considered an unreliable source and I was just wondering where I could find the discussion on its reliability if you know where it is or if it exists. Thanks. Heartfox (talk) 20:11, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if Chart Data has specifically been discussed, but the reason it is considered unreliable is the same as twitter.com/chartnews, as WP:CHART states: "In general, reproduces information available directly from sources listed in Recommended charts. Sales figures appear to be obtained from a mixture of reliable and unreliable sources, including mediatraffic.de; in some cases, provided sales figures do not match those from recommended sources provided concurrently."--NØ 14:13, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2019 March newsletter[edit]

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • United States L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
  • Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
  • Denmark MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
  • United States Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
  • Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
  • Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hello[edit]

Hello again. Apologies for the random message. I hope your exams went well and you are doing well overall. Just thought you would like to know that I listened The Love Train and I honestly enjoyed it a great deal. Maybe it is because I enjoy pop music and I am a hopeless romantic, but "Marry Me" has become my favorite song from her. It is a shame that the press release overshadowed the actual music because I think it is a good direction for Meghan. I enjoy her music ("Better When I'm Dancin'" and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" are probably my two other favorites) and it is a shame that there is so much hate for her. Hopefully, she can learn from it (as she has made some mistakes) to grow as a songwriter and an artist in general. Aoba47 (talk) 02:06, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I liked Foolish and After You the most on the new EP. Actually now that you mention it, “Hopeless Romantic” is one of her best songs too!—NØ 05:26, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Those are also very good songs, and I will have to check that out. Aoba47 (talk) 05:53, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Swan Song (song). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Swan Song (song)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

A No No[edit]

I swear "A No No" was on there for March 12 haha! I wish there was an archive for March 12, not March 10. I think it was added last minute or something. Heartfox (talk) 02:48, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I trust you, but we will still need actual verification if we wanted to add the date to the article. Especially since there’s a reliable source in support of March 4.—NØ 08:16, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The article Better (Meghan Trainor song) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Better (Meghan Trainor song) for issues which need to be addressed. Congrats! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:55, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to both of you. I wasn’t expecting the review to be picked up so quickly, so I nominated the "Me Too" article for DYK very recently. The sad thing is that unless that one gets approved in the next 7 days, I can’t nominate “Better”.—NØ 18:01, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GA articles[edit]

Hello, first of all, I want to thank you for reviewing "Mirror" article. Secondly, I would like to point out that you need to change the project's quality scale of the talk page to GA, as well as, to add the article to the list that you can find at the bottom, according to its category, 1. (I already add "Mirror", hope you don't mind).
