Pictures[edit]

Hello,

I found a picture of the composer Aaron Copland from the Library of Congress website (government). It was uploaded and I said the source was from the government being the Library of Congress.

It was deleted for some reason however stating that there was no copyright status on the picture.

How do I upload pictures then?

Thanks.

Private Information[edit]

I received a message from you asking me not to release Private Information about a member that they have not chosen to share on Wikipedia. I am wondering whether that information applies when someone is an editor of a magazine and uses their Wikipedia identity to delete information about a rival publication under the cloak of anonymity?

He has admitted his identity fully on another website when this information came to light and therefore, the revelation of his identity was relevant to the discussion as it showed that edits were being carried out because of personal agenda and bias. Thank you for your time, CrimeBuff.

The Midway Sightings[edit]

I went and corrected it; I had thought there was a speedy tag for blatant advertising done in less than 48 hours, but I turned out to be incorrect; by that time, I'd hit the return key on accident. I'm still looking for info that may cooborate this as either advertising or part of a alternate reality game.--み使い Mitsukai 02:46, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

I knew that fair use images need to be used in some article...But some how got annoyed when I saw Albert Ekka’s stamp was deleted. He was one of the unknown soliders who became popular only after his death. I believe that there are no images of him in public domain and all are borrowed from the Indian Army’s Website.I still novice in viewing version histories.. So I was under the impression that there could have been some issues with the bot. I apologize. Thank you for your help and clarification.... Have a great day... bye....IndianCow 08:29, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martyman.

Yes, my mistake - I created the png from an earlier jpg image - the jpg was in the 'images for cleanup' category. I seem to remember the jpg original was uploaded by User:Rafti Institute and added to the article [[1]] by them - a number of their images had 'ifc' tags and I edited several of them back then. I can't think why I didn't add the name of the original uploader to the page, unless it was because I was having trouble with a slow Wiki and then forgot to come back!

BTW, the file it was based-on was Image:Spore print sheet.jpg but it appears to have been deleted.

Regards, Ian Dunster 11:57, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can make the image smaller and degrade it slightly, so that it would be usable under 'fairusein' but I'm not sure that that would be of much use without having a proper source for the original image. Ian Dunster 13:13, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, we started a new page at Wikipedia:Image legality questions, pretty much the same thing as the old Orphanbot help page just not in user space, also {{image source}} and {{image copyright}} link there, if you want to keep helping that would be great :D - cohesiont 06:45, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Climatic Map of Australia[edit]

Hi, I just noticed your map of Australia's climatic zone - looks good. There seem to be a couple of minor short comings however.

This map http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/climate/cgi_bin_scripts/clim_classification.cgi illustrates that the area in far northern N.T. experiences an equatorial climate and that the area in south west Wa has a temperate climate.

Locator Map[edit]

Hey Martyman, I used your locator map and edited it to mark Amity Point. I hope you are okay with this and if not, could you please make a map showing its location.

canberra images you have taken[edit]

Hi There Martyman, I was searching over google and have come across from brilliant photography of yours, such as mount ainslie, and the great panorama of lake burley griffin. I am organising a vehicle car show for 2007 known as "Shannons Wheels Expo", and i was interested in using one of your photographs for some flyers i was making up to help advertise the car show. It is 100% non profit, and supports local charitys, if you would like more information, visit http://www.actmotorclubs.org.au/go/shannons-wheels-expo Let me know if this is okay, my email address is Chris.Faulkner@streetrides.org.au Regards, Chris

Diagrams/maps[edit]

Hi there Martyman, I noticed you have created a lot of maps/diagrams for wikipedia. Can I ask why you have chosen to use the PNG format instead of SVG? I'd like to help out with some maps as this is something that Wikipedia is patchy with at the moment. Also, what do you use as a basis for your maps? Do you trace existing maps? How do you do it? Just wondering.. :) Diliff | (Talk) (Contribs) 15:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

Hey!

I really like your maps of Australia, but could you produce some maps of the individual states at a reasonable size? We need each image to be 230px wide for use as a locator map. I assume you still have the original illustrator files. If you want, it may be easier, you could give me the files, and I can then build the state images.

Thanks anyway, TheJosh 07:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Data[edit]

In November 2005 you created the image Canberra timeline-MJC.png. This graph has been tagged into the Collaboration to convert graphs to SVG. licensing of a derivative work of one of your maps[edit]

Hi Martyman, I've used your Tasmania locator map in this image. As the locator map is now pretty small and the other part of the map is public domain, I'm wondering if you would agree to drop the GFDL license on the derivative work? If so, could you simply change the license of that image to PD using your Commons account (to signal your "okay")? Thanks (whatever you decide), Ibn Battuta 16:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Charles Conder Primary School, by Penwhale (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Charles Conder Primary School fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Not all school are notable...

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Charles Conder Primary School, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Charles Conder Primary School itself. Got an original version of an image?[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you were the author of an image, , using Adobe Illustrator. Is there a chance that you could either upload an SVG version or email me a vector (.ai preferably) copy to convert to SVG? Canberra Population Timeline - Converting to SVG[edit]

Hello Martyman;

I am currently working on rebuilding your Canberra Population Timeline graph in SVG. From the Australia Bureau of Statistics, I got data for the past decade. However, I have not found statistics before 1991. If possible, I kindly ask for a listing of the data used in your graph. Alternatively, I would be happy to recollect the data myself, if you could point me toward your sources.

I've used one of your maps but...[edit]

Hi. I was looking for a template to use as the basis for a location map for the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. Found one of yours (Perth locator-MJC.png) and made some modifications. The end result is Image:DBNGP.png. Please forgive me if I've contravened your rights re: your original work. Can you have a quick look at how I've treated the licensing issues. I'm pretty sure I've botched the license attributes by not properly acknowledging your original work or whatever. E.g. even though I've mentioned you in the description field, I seem to be claiming my new map as an original work. Please set me straight if I've gone down the wrong track entirely. Apologies in advance etc...my humble excuse is -I'm only new at this! --Glen Dillon (talk) 14:44, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, I may have selected the wrong license type for my map...given that my work is a derivative of yours, I might not have a right to release mine to 'public domain'. Your thoughts?--Glen Dillon (talk) 11:45, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. File:Telopia park school-NLA01.jpg needs authorship information[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Telopia park school-NLA01.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Martyman}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:06, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of change[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for location map for Scrivener Dam[edit]

Hi mate. I'm impressed by all your work, creating maps. Well done! I acknowledge that you're having a break. I've been doing some work with waterways, lakes and dams, etc. I'd appreciate if, when you have a moment, you could create a map for Scrivener Dam. Many thanks. Canberra District Map[edit]

Just noticed some minor errors on your district map:

  • Pialligo: Majura District
  • Symonston: Jerrabomberra District
  • Beard: Jerrabomberra District (to be added)
  • Molonglo Valley District: (to be added)

or for more details, see map here: http://www.actmapi.act.gov.au/desktop.html (Click "Basic Map for Desktop").

I'd do it myself, but I lack any non-copyrighted source (ACTMAPi is copyrighted) to trace a map from.

Your upload of File:ACT historic buildings map-MJC.png or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Use of your map on my blog[edit]

Hi,

I have used one of your maps as the background on my blog about Canberra and it's facebook/twitter account. Are you okay with this? The map is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Inner-canberra-triangle_MJC01.png I want to attribute to you but I'm not sure if this needs to be on the image or if I should refer to this on my about page. Let me know what you'd like the attribution to say. If you're not happy with me using the image, please let me know and I'll remove it immediately. Many thanks, Vanessa — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.91.9.9 (talk) 23:46, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:52, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martyman My name is Lannon Harley, I am a Communications Officer for the ACT Government. I wanted to use one of your maps for an online interactive to promote Australia Day festivities 2016. Just wanted to check that this was okay and confirm the necessary attributions. The map is of the Parliamentary Triangle. Let me know what you think. Cheers Lannon

I'll be in Canberra from the 29-30 August, there is a planned meet-up at King O'Malley's (though I'm open to suggestions) from 6pm on the 29 August. Sorry for the short noticed, only had the trip confirmed this afternoon. Bidgee (talk) 11:31, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cliché question[edit]

G'day Martyman! How's 2017? I hope you're having a ripper! Just to notify you (uhh again...), if you made the maps and diagrams in Adobe Illustrator, it's best to upload the files as SVG and not PNG, as it becomes flexible and people can more easily append corrections. Ta heaps! — AWESOME meeos * ([ˈjæb.ə ət məɪ])) 12:41, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This image was seemingly uploaded prior to current image polices, Thank you.

However, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure all media on English Wikipedia is correctly licensed and attributed it would be appreciated if you were able to confirm, that it was your own work, by marking it as {{own}}, amending the {{information}} added by a third party, and by changing the license to an appropriate "self" variant. You can also add |claimed=yes to the {{Media by uploader}} or {{Presumed self}} tag(s) if present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

IF you have other uploads, please consider "claiming" them in a similar manner, You can find a list of files you have created here.

This will assist those reviewing the many many "free" images on commons that have not yet been transferred to Commons. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:01, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The file File:Yarralumla IBMap-TEST-MJC.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned map.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Rob13Talk 03:25, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
