Image Tagging Image:APCTalha.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:APCTalha.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

Yeah there is a URL there, but it doesn't work and as far as I can tell from the wayback machine it's been a domain park since 2003 at least...Sherool (talk) 14:26, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed the Image problem[edit]

www.pakistanidefence.com

Image[edit]

Hello Mercenary2k! I went through the images you recently uploaded to Wikipedia and realised that you were blindly adding the ((CopyrightedFreeUse}} tag to those images without finding out whether the copyright holder allows anyone to use or not. One example of this is Image:Pak8.jpg. The image was upoaded from Time.com. Usage of any material from this site without a permission to do so is a very serious copyright violation. I'll take up the matter with a Wikipedia administrator who will go through all the images you've uploaded and take necessary action. Please do not upload images to Wikipedia if you are not sure of their copyright status. This is for your own safety. Please see Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act --Deepak|वार्ता 07:23, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia:Confirmation of permission. Once you receive a permission letter, you should forward it to the Wikimedia PR department. Regarding List of countries by number of active troops please provide a source for the figures. According to World Almanac, Pakistani military has a strength of 620000 while it's paramilitary is 288000 strong. Thanks and happy editing --Deepak|वार्ता 00:13, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It seems that the website www.skins.be does not explicitly have any copyright or copyleft notice whatsoever. Wikipedia needs specific information on this status. Just because it is "free" does not mean that there is complete 100 percent unrestricted use of it. For example, something claimed under the GFDL or some versions of the Creative Commons license must always cite every single person that worked on that image, text, content, etc. I have also seen some web sites or services that provide free use of its stuff but only if it is "only used for non-commerical use". Because of how Wikipedia is distributed to others, it needs the license information on whether or not these images can be distributed freely, both to parties interested in both commerical and non-commerical use. Request for edit summary[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 22% for major edits and 8% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 90 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 05:03, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History of Pakistan Army[edit]

Soory I opposed, I found a couple of grammatical errors in the article. Also with Somalia piece it would read better if it referred to the battle directly instead of its current method, ie rescue of US personel during the Battle. It will benefit from peer review I like the article as initailly stated, it's just that during the second read i noticed these little things Gnangarra 16:09, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More than likely this won't be featured as there are too many subsections with just one sentence, and the lead is too short. Apparently it needs copyediting as well. I will try to copyedit it soon. In the future, I would not mind copyediting Pakistan-related articles, so if need be, send me a message and I'll gladly help out. Pepsidrinka 21:07, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Guys for helping out. It took me about 2 weeks to write up this article. Ya I read your comments, and I understand the problems. I will correct them. But If you wanna help you are more than welcome to. The main help that I need is for you guys to read what I have written and point out any grammer errors, sentence structure problems and any other things.

Hi came back for another read, I like the table for the UN Missions it does look a little cramped. The Yom Kippa war(I cant spell) reads as a Pakistan Air Force personnel voluntary action, not an official government sanctioned involvement. Is it in the right place in an article on the History of Pakistan Army?

The image of the 1st Nuclear test can be fair use within this article. I think you just need to add a comment within the article as required, required format is shown by the fair use page. Suggest you write something like this (or use if you want to correct my spelling)

This image is used in this article under fair use conditions because it was broadcasted in the public arena through media outlets, actual still image used was created by and obtained from Dei Spiegal. Source of the original footage is most likely from within the Pakistan Military who conducted the test. It's release by the military at the time would have been for propoganda purposes specifically directed at India. As this article is entirerly about the History of the Pakistan Army the first detonation of a nuclear weapon is a significant historical moment.

Hope this helps, I'll visit again for another read it is facinating Gnangarra 15:28, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Need your Help[edit]

I need support in editing the page for Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh from Pakistani-Wikipedians. The page concludes Pakistans link to 9/11 using information from Indian press and much information in that page is without proper references. I have checked some of the references on that page and information in the references is different from what is mentioned in it. Hi Mercenary2k,

I was wondering if you have seen the following page, its a place where alot of people work as a team to progress and work together on articles and images of Wikipedia.

The Pakistani community for sometime has been very dormant, as there were not many people here to write articles related to Pakistan. If you go the following "Project page" you will see a new community has been formed, where I think alot of us should asign tasks and work more as a community than individually. Here's the link;

Wikipedia:Notice board for Pakistan-related topics. Do take a look at all the other communities the way they are working to improve articles and promote their communities.

I think its about time we all do the same. As you may notice everthing is just been laid out, so now its our turn to fill the gaps. Do pass the word on to other Pakistanis and people working on Pakistani articles.

Many thanks, Fast track 08 May 2006 (UTC)

good work[edit]

Image copyright problem with Image:Pak.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pak.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 21:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bismarck picture[edit]

This is actually a classic picture that is usually shown in most WW2 books, and on the front cover. I doubt you'll find a better one. By the way, I like the photos you have added for the Soviet campaign. I did get rid of some of the maps, as they are unimportant, and just plain boring. I notice you come from Pakistan. It is always a shame that you are "lumped in" with India in WW2. I'm sure that Pakistan (well that part of old India) was heavily involved too. Wallie 19:17, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion on Kargil TAlk page[edit]

I have left a message for you at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kargil_War#Casuality_Estimates about the casualities. it is proper to discuss and arrive at a solutin rather than go into a reverts war.

Re:Kargil War[edit]

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert a single page more than three times in 24 hours. Edits to Al Franken that included incorrect information[edit]

Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! Croctotheface 16:21, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Indianpows.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Indianpows.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Hello! I'm not entirely sure where, exactly, you grabbed my username from when looking for help with improving this article (I assume it must be from the British military history task force of WP:MILHIST). I have added some categories to the article, and wikilinked some of the units in the order of battle, but I'm afraid that this particular event falls a little outside my area of expertise.

If I might make a suggestion, I would turn the listed order of battle into prose - something like "The British forces consisted of several regular army units, including.................... There were also a number of Indian units, including.................." It's not necessary by any mens, but the list is short enough that prose would probably be acceptable. Also, it's not neccessary to write "The 4th Hussars, now the Queen's Royal Hussars" - you can use the following code [[The Queen's Royal Hussars|The 4th Hussars]] which will display on the page as The 4th Hussars, while providing a link to the page for the modern unit which (in most case) will give the lineage.

If I can provide any additional help, feel free to ask on my talk page. Carom 05:39, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WWII infobox[edit]

Hi I've noticed your good work with the WWII article and I was hoping we could figure this out between ourselves. Many of these battlebox warriors seem to be more interested in stinking up the talk page than in helping out with the article. I think it's safe to ignore them.

a) You don't have to waste your time debating this. If it's too much for you to listen to me please just stay out of the way. I do respect your opinion and for you to chime on their side pretty much wrecks my case.

b) We have been making great progress on the body of the article lately. I think we have much more to do, but this is the first time that I've ever seen this article is actually starting to improve.

c) I've listed my arguments re:France on the talk page. Add to that the fact that if you crack almost any book about WWII, France is unavoidable. Anything inconsistent with this is just OR. I'm sure you have some perspective on this being reasonably well-read on the subject, but a lot of these jokers don't seem to have a clue about even the basic facts of the war.

d) We agree on 90% of this stuff. I have said I would support the infobox your way for the time being. Alternatively, I could put it up my way and you could choose to remain silent or support me. Either way this doesn't have to be deadlock because I am willing to cooperate. Haber 13:55, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --BigDT (416) 23:12, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

India in Great Power[edit]

A war ending in a ceasefire is by no means the result of the war. Many wars end in a ceasefire. I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by alerting the mods? Traing 06:07, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't 99 being discussed when the article says India won three wars against Pakistan after it's independence. That does not include 47, which was essentially an independence-related war. By the way, your edits are unattributed. You didn't answer my above question. I'm fairly new to Wikipedia and have been very selective in my edits. I reverted your edits now that you have failed to reply to my comments but am ready for negotiations. Regards. Traing 06:15, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have read Wikipedia policies still. I know quite well about WP:ATT, WP:OR, WP:RS, WP:V, which are the policies I believe you fail to grasp. I am not at all blindly reverting your edits, I have thought it over carefully. Traing 06:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your recent comments indicate that while you have been on Wikipedia for longer than me. You are not fully aware of it's policies. Your source states that Prabhakaran wanted Gandhi killed, that does not have relation to great power. The source must be attributed to India's quest for great powerdom, or it becomes original research, which is against Wikipedia policy. Also I see that you have written about how the page is bad because it does not include historical powers like the Roman Empire. This indicates you have a lack of knowledge on great powers, as it would be anachronistic to attribute historical powers to a term which was never used before the 1800s. Your comments are unattributed and are non-compliant with wikipolicy. Also, you show double standards. You edited to claim that two of India's wars with Pakistan were ceasefires while India lost a war to China. The war against China also ended in a ceasefire, implying double standards on your behalf. Please consider these comments. Traing 01:17, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ci Chiamano Bambine.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ci Chiamano Bambine.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:41, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Large parts of the article Pakistan Army seem to be copied from http://www.defence.pk/Pakistan_Army/. This would be a violation of the Wikipedia copyright policy. As it seems that aforementioned material has been uploaded by you, I would ask you come to the Wikipedia:Copyright problems board, where I have posted a note about this possible copyright violation. Thanks, --noclador 21:26, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In this case your friends at http://www.defence.pk/Pakistan_Army/ are in copyright violation. In cases were other pages copy from wikipedia, they must give due credit and are not allowed to copyright the material themselves, as this violates the GNU Free Documentation License under which wikipedia is published. Here you will find some sample letters Wikipedia:Standard GFDL violation letter to inform http://www.defence.pk/Pakistan_Army/ that they need to acknowledge wikipedias contributions (I suggest using the letter: Letter for website that does not acknowledge Wikipedia as a source. The only thing http://www.defence.pk needs to do is inserting somewhere on the page: "This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Pakistan Army; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License. You may redistribute it, verbatim or modified, providing that you comply with the terms of the GFDL. The original article can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_Army." That would be all. By the way- as you wrote almost all the article about Pakistan’s Army those awards are well deserved :-) --noclador 08:49, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan Army[edit]

Please stop vandalizing the site. The facts put are the facts, if you have different facts you can put those. But the Pakistan Army is what it is\\

ISI[edit]

I saw your edits on ISI, please explain how you know that ISI contacts with Mosad are well known, knowing from your DOB you are to young to have been part of the ISI, so cite your references on the each of the edits you did. You cannot just add things without any citations.

Pakistan Army[edit]

Please dont threaten me. I have edited Wikipedia for a long time, what you are doing is making threats if you want we can take this whole issue to a mediator.

trueblood 04:23, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We will see, also what you wrote about ISI is nothing but wishful thinking. In fact I doubt you know much about Pakistan Army or the ISI. Before you start maybe you should read a few books on Pakistan Army and what it has done or read Dawn or other papers about this Army

trueblood 04:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For your information I dont hate Pakistan. I think you would agree that Pakistan Army did surrender in East Pakistan, and that this fact of the surrender signing is a valid addition to the article.

Furthermore, you will also admit to the following:

Pakistan Army:

1. Killed Nawab Akbar Bugti the leader of the Baluchis 2. Killed hundreds of Pathans in Waziristan and that in the end could not defeat the Pathans so it signed a peace agreement. 3. That the ISI is part of the Supreme Court investigation in Pakistan.

I suggest you read the following articles:

http://www.dawn.com/2007/06/22/top2.htm http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0619/p07s01-wosc.html

None of the articles above were written by me. You would also agree that a civilian government is always better than an Army that rules its own citizens. As your page shows you are from Pakistan living in Canada so your democracy in Canada does not allow its Army to overthrow its elected government.

But in Pakistan everytime there has been a military government the Army has landed Pakistan into a war which it has lost. The book by an Australian military historian sheds light on Pakistans near defeat in 1965 which was only saved by a United nations cease fire.

I would like to know where your citations are concerning ISI contacts with mosad and ISI agents being in NGO's and in Pakistan embassies

Conscription?[edit]

Does the Pakistan Army have conscripts in its ranks? I doubt that, but the article states that it does. I've never heard of anyone being forced to serve in the military in Pakistan. Zaindy87 04:33, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For your information I removed the fact about conscription as I know that Pakistan has a volunteer army.

trueblood 04:44, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure what your idea of truth is, because you are the one who put in the revision that the Army consists of conscripts. you should check the revision history to the following and it proves that you put conscripts but you posted that I vandalised and put that in. This just shows you are loose with your factsuser mercenary2k is lying, if you look at the following edit, he is the one that put the conscription part in the article but than blames it on me. Maybe this user does not realize that all edits are kept on record.

Whilst I admire some of your work, I do request that you help keep an open mind and help neutrality. The points you make will be taken in consideration without doubt. Let's try and stay civil guys and improve this encyclopedia :-)

Something really needs to be done[edit]

...to stop the constant vandalism of the Pakistan Army page (by a single person it seems). Is there any way we could request a lock on the article to prevent non-registered members from editing it? Zaindy87 06:12, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan Army[edit]

I am not sure why you consider it vandalism when the facts that I put forward are facts. In truth the article did not have the correct treaties nor did it give the proper coups, therefore it seems to me that if the Army keeps on overthrowing the elected governments, than the sub headings should not be considered vandalism but are proper.

In reference to the Parliment building, I know for a fact that the white building is the Parliment building and I know the building that the ISI is in. My own relatives were DG of ISI so I know the facts.

If you look on Google Earth you can see the Parliment building it is on constition avenue. I think you are misconstruing my edits as anti Pakistan. My family fought for Pakistan and my family fought in every war for Pakistan, so anything I say may be negative if you dont like critism of Pakistan Army but the facts are the facts.

The Army is the reason that Pakistan today has 5 hour brown outs, high prices, terrorism and all the other ills. If the current democracy movement suceeds than there is hope for Pakistan.

So I hope you wont take my comments as negative but rather the truth. In fact I hope if the truth is told about Pakistan Army and its intelligence services which have kidnapped innocent people and sold Pakistanis to Intelligence services for cash, (this has been confirmed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.) Maybe if the Army would do its Army duties than Pakistan would be better protected. So dont take my comments as anti Pakistan trueblood 02:36, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ISI[edit]

I looked at the site, it is the Parliment building in the back and the supreme court in the front. The ISI building is about 4 miles from there or about 2 miles from zero point.

trueblood 02:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can go to Google earth Islamabad and go and see the Parliment building, next to the building is the President and Prime Minister offices.

Pakistan Army[edit]

Good job. I think breaking up the article like you did, does a lot to improve. See I dont hate Pakistan. I just want to improve the article that you just did. I believe that if the Pakistan Army does its job by training rather than ruling, Pakistan would be better than Korea as Pakistanis are smart, hard working and really good people. The only thing missing is the rule of law which the Supreme Court will now give. So the future looks good

Unspecified source for Image:Last-stand.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Last-stand.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:42, 13 July 2007 (UTC). Well does this fit anywhere. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1102/847936995_dac0b1bd59_b_d.jpg

I think you didn't get the whole meaning. The Siege of Leningrad can't be called tragedy because it's a attack on another country so it was war not a tragedy Germans weren't fighting against germans nor Soviet pitted against Soviet. While Virginia Tech Massacre was a massacre because one man killed many innocent people just due to his own madness.it was done without identifying friend or foe. Here we had our own army attacking our own people.and then what is the result suicide bombing agianst our own army with our 100 killing! User talk:Yousaf465

Now you are showing Pov.Although our might be brave but the general sitting over it has lost his mind. The first principle of war is reckon.which he didn't.even the staunch supporters of this operation are not questing about it's results.

It's of year 1948 and PAF was up against Faqir of Ipi when a Polish national of PAF was fired upon from the ground while on a flight over that area.He landed back, loaded the T-6 with as much weapons as he could and then went on to bomb the area from where he has been fired upon. But alas it was Afghan area so a Afghan general was killed due to the bombing. This caused souring in relations and also we have to pay for it.So is the case with the this operation now our brave army is paying the price of it in NWFP just bcz Uncle Sam wants that.Uncle Sam is talking of doing a operation in Pakistan is this all acceptable to us.User talk:Yousaf465

This is all what media in Canada is telling you. This problem did have another solution there is no shortage of time for our army.Only just before all this Durrani had said "if media don't show the dead bodies we will do it in 24 hrs" was he such mad with agony or something else was causing him to say so.The only problem was that PoP have said just a day or day two before the operation that we will do it.and also he was to deliver his speech on the day when the operation ended this was the only reason for such an hurry.army should have waited there for at least the time till when insiders should have laid their weapons.about suicide bombing isn't it happening now. The people involved in negotiation do admit that there was a change of draft why just bcz the government wanted the PoP to deliver the address on time. What the Lal masjid Khatib said is happening now our own brave army is being killed and in reatilory fire the innocent bystanders are being killed.this will draw a blood line between the army and people. You are not in Pakistan that is why you don't know the real situation here. This is is leading to a uprising against our own army which needs to be avoided.User talk:Yousaf465

Questions: 1) On average, how many hours per week do you spend editing articles on Wikipedia? 2) Why do you contribute your time and energy to developing Wikipedia articles? 3) What types of articles to which do you typically contribute? 4) Why did you choose to become involved in the Wikipedia article on the Virginia Tech Massacre? 5) What was your primary role in the process of creating the article on the Virginia Tech Massacre (e.g. copy editing, fighting vandalism, contributing news, managing a particular section, etc?) 6) How was your experience with this article similar to or different than other Wikipedia articles to which you have contributed? 7) What were some of the most challenging issues facing the successful development of this particular article on the Virginia Tech Massacre? 8) What do you think were some of the primary reasons that this article was successful (i.e. cited in the press, nominated as a “featured article.”) 9) Is there anything else I should know about the Wikipedia article on the VT massacre? 10) Would you be willing to participate in a short phone/Skype interview to talk more about your experience with the article (if yes, I will follow up later by email to arrange it).

Haroon Islam copy edit[edit]

I did a copy edit of Haroon Islam, but I am not an expert in this subject. I saw that you have made a lot of edits re the Pakistani military. Could you please have a look at the article for notability, content and categorization. Also, could please you see how it could fit into the Lal Masjid siege? Fair use rationale for Image:BLCVNS D005 04858.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BLCVNS D005 04858.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Bourne Ultimatum[edit]

You would right on that timeline. He talks to the girl before the chase scene with the Russians. However, the car crash is the event that precipitates the chase with the Russians and the pharmacy scene. Therefore, it is the one that bears mentioning. The conversation with Neski's daughter does not impact this film, and therefore does not need mentioning. ColdFusion650 23:23, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:El-alamein1.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:El-alamein1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:15, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

edit summaries[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.  — MapsMan talk | cont ] — 08:53, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Pak1965IndianAttack.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Pak1965IndianAttack.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 21:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Paolaechiarablue.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Paolaechiarablue.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:49, 5 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 21:49, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shi'a-Sunni sectarianism! What next?

Wikipedia has always had its fair share of disputes. The issues surrounding debates like creationism-evolutionism had been a source of many edit wars. But recently enough, the ball-of-chaos had landed in our very own court. Pakistani issues are now polluted with a new sectarianism, especially the biographical articles celebrating some of the most influential people in Pakistani politics. These edit wars annoyed administrators who had no idea how the problems should be dealt with. Instances of religious inclination (either Shi'a Islam or Sunni Islam) were changed from one or the other. Debates have kicked off on the WP Pakistan talk page. Recently enough, a new policy has come into discussion (actually, it's just a set of rules) that defines major guidlines for such issues. It now awaits votes from all Pakistani editors.

In other news: Akhtar Hameed Khan has finally reached the FA status and Islescape is the happiest person on Earth.

Might I invite you to come back and work on Lal Masjid Conflict. I have addressed previous issues and am now working on the new peer review. Hopefully you would like to join me in working on the article. --→ Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 03:48, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Inter-Services Intelligence. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Harry the Dog WOOF 19:27, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beauties and PR

If you were lucky enough to watch that episode on Nadia Khan's show on Geo TV where Sonia Ahmed and Mahleej Sarkari were invited, you'd know that the Miss Pakistan World pageant is really the hype. At least, when it comes to controversies, the organiser know where to bring the PR campaign. Their serious POV edits which have been proven to be made by the organisers and associates of the pageant are under debate at the article's deletion debate.

Follow-up on the last issue

In the last issue, we discussed about the sectarian issues that Pakistani articles were prone to. For an update, an advocate of the Shi'a faith and its prominent inclusion into the articles, LahoreKid has been banned for an indefinite period. In the process, a citation review project page was created for providing editors with a third-opinion on vague references.

For a in-depth coverage, read the talks here. Some news issues will be addressed shortly and new activities like contests and quizzes would be announced shortly as well.

Talking of sects...

I don't want to sound like a separatist, if I say that for the past few weeks the highest number of edits on anything related to Pakistan have been on articles that concerned Baluchistan. From major editions to the article on Quetta to the 1935 Balochistan earthquake tragedy.

In other news: It is now important for editors to look into the logistics section for gaining or providing support for various things in the article such as graphics or copy-editing. So, if you need copy-editing of an article, or your article lacks a picture, please consult at this page.

i-post[edit]

Email to Postal Mail

A convenient free postal mail service which can deliver email messages all over Pakistan. Peoples can now use their email to send letters giving you another route to communicate with others who are not connected to the Internet in Pakistan.

In recent past Internet and e-mail have revolutionized the world of communications. But those who do not have easy access to Internet and e-mail facilities could not get benefits of this facility. In its endeavour to make the benefits of e-mail available to a common man, Al Tayyeb Group has introduced i-post service. By i-post all those who do not have computer or do not have access to Internet can send e-mail by Post Office or receive e-mail through a postman. Those who have access to Internet can also send i-post to those who do not have access to Internet.

Wikipedia should have an article on this social service & must be a part of WikiProject Pakistan. Please comments. --SaqibChaudhry (talk) 09:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image permission problem with Image:Pak-China-Training.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Pak-China-Training.jpg, which you've sourced to a friend. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 19:48, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Chapur.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Chapur.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gavia immer (talk) 22:58, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

German Casualties World War II[edit]

Hello, I have made a post in the discussion about this article, please have a look at it. But briefly. The casualties from the battle in Germany 1945 can not be attributed to the Eastern Front only, as made in the article, but casualties should also be attributed on the Western Front (thus, the number now quoted as casualties at the Western front is uncomplete, it only covers the war until 31/12 1944). I am not sure at which percent, but I have seen this figure before, I can be found somewhere. EriFr (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:18, 5 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:27, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

3RR warning: List of countries by number of troops[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of countries by number of troops. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Macwhiz (talkcontribs) 02:32, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a short time for your disruption caused by your engagement in an edit war. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Kubigula (talk) 03:51, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mercenary2K. Now that your block for edit-warring at List of countries by number of troops has expired, may I invite you to participate further in the discussion at the talk page there? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on some of the comments I have made there recently. Regards, WikiDao(talk) 16:05, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Might I request?[edit]

Hi Mercenary. Just thought I'll leave a note for you here rather than on the article page. I have been following the discussions for quite some time; and this is a very uninvolved view of one particular factor, which I believe you really need to take into perspective and improve. You need to leave your anger behind when you discuss editorial issues on the talk page of articles. You also need to necessarily use extremely civil words when you talk to fellow editors. The examples I see on the talk page of the article in question are many. Disparaging comments, comments on nationalities, continuous usage of attacking statements, could lead to a permanent block in the future; and this is true for any editor. Please stop for a moment and think hard about the reasons editors like I take time off to write to you; that's because we believe you are an editor with a potential, and that given some guidance, you can turn out to be a really long term asset for our project. So kindly (and really, this is a request), stop the usage of uncivil words and extend an olive branch to parties with whom you might have an editorial dispute. I'm here to assist you; therefore, if you need any help, any assistance, contact me on my talk page and I'll get you along fine enough. Smile, and enjoy your editing experience on Wikipedia. That's my olive branch to you :) I'll keep watching over the discussions from this point onwards. Sincerely. Wifione ....... Leave a message 18:09, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Talk:List of countries by number of military and paramilitary personnel, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( in the enhanced toolbar, or if you use the old "classic" toolbar) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

File permission problem with File:Wasimkhanwithbush.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Wasimkhanwithbush.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. HIAS (talk) 19:41, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NYC List[edit]

Good day to you,

Thanks for helping out over at List of tallest buildings in New York City, I think that's good context and maybe something similar should be done for all "List of tallest..." articles for cities in the top ten.

I did notice that some of the information was redundant to another paragraph, which read as follows:

New York City skyscrapers are concentrated in Midtown and Downtown Manhattan, although other neighborhoods of Manhattan and the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx also contain some high-rises. As of June 2019, the entire city had 309 buildings that rise at least 500 feet (152 m) in height, including those under construction, more than any other city in the United States.[15]

Additionally the tone (e.g. "Even though this article") was a little bit off so I've revised it, and moved the explanation of the definition of skyscraper to a note for consistency and to help improve flow, granted I'm not the best writer of prose myself.

I also pulled the information about international ranking of the number under construction as it is often trickier to keep current, and of lessor relevance. Additionally, and maybe you already knew this but just forgot (I don't mean to seem pedantic), in American cities to accord with the Manual of Style feet are placed before meters, whereas for most other countries it is the reverse (the situation in the UK is complicated but just stick with whatever is already in use to avoid running afoul of general sanctions.)

So I removed the information from the bottom, and refactored the existing paragraph to read as follows:

New York City skyscrapers are concentrated in Midtown and Downtown Manhattan, although other neighborhoods of Manhattan and the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx also contain some high-rises. As of November 2019, the entire city had 282 completed skyscrapers that rise at least 492 feet (150 m) in height, more than any other city in the United States, and second in the world after Hong Kong.[D] An additional 31 skyscrapers are under construction.[17]

D. ^ The comparison uses the current standard criteria as a continuously habitable high-rise building that has over 40 floors, and is taller than approximately 492 feet (150 m).[15][16] See also Skyscraper for more details on how the definition has evolved over time.

That said I really do appreciate your contributions, and if you don't mind the occasional mass message, perhaps you would consider joining the Skyscapers Wikiproject, which I only just found myself, thanks. 𝒬𝔔 18:59, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I'm not the most active of editors, but ping me either here or on the article talk page if you have any questions or otherwise want to continue discussing and I'll try to get back to you within the week.

April 2020[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

A community discussion has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The specific details of these sanctions are described here.

Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.
