Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Billie Fleming, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Camden and Tommy Godwin (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Cropping photos

Hi Meriel, I decided to check in to see how you're doing, and noticed your great work starting the article Tom Rees (British airman), which looks like it will shortly feature on the main page - so congrats! As you've now probably experienced, it can be quite exciting working with several other editors on an article simultaneously.

Anyway, I also noticed that you asked a question and the Teahouse, which unfortunately appears to have been accidentally removed by another user moments after you asked it (see here). I'm not sure how this happened, or why nobody noticed it, so apologies for that. To answer your question, yes, you're allowed to crop that photo in the Vera Charles article (this is because it, like most Wikipedia images, has a license which allows you to make derivative works with appropriate attribution). All you do it download the photo to your computer, use any editing software to crop it, and then upload it as a new photo (with a new name) to Wikimedia Commons; when you are prompted for a source of the photo, simply state that it's a cropped version of that old one, providing a link to the old file (rather than to the Wikipedia article). If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help. All the best, Mark M (talk) 20:45, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice about photos. I've now replaced the one of Vera Charles with a cropped version. And, yes, it was very interesting to experience the interest in a Tom Rees / von Richtofen page. Finally, I can't work out which Talk page to use to reply when someone writes on my Talk page! Some people say what to do, but otherwise - should this be here, or on your Talk page?? Does it matter? MerielGJones (talk) 20:46, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi Meriel, yes it's fine to reply here (I've been away from Wikipedia for a while, but normally I would have seen your reply on my watchlist immediately; I, like many users, have set the preference to watchlist every page I edit by default). It's preferred to keep a discussion in one place; it makes it easier to follow that way. If you want to ensure somebody is notified, just make sure you mention their username (like User:MerielGJones) in your message and they will get an automatic notification, which appears at the top of their screen whenever they are logged in. Happy editing! :-) Mark M (talk) 08:55, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
By the way, there's an informal social meet up in Liverpool today at (1pm onwards in a pub near the train station) of a few Wikipedians; you'd be welcome to come! See the event page for further details. Hope to see you there. :-) Mark M (talk) 08:59, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, I'd seen about the social event, but already had something planned for the weekend. I'll look out for the next one. MerielGJones (talk) 17:14, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Glad to help. It was a really good kernel that you wrote. I was not happy with the way things were going, and apparently I (and some friendly and enthusiastic editors) could make a difference. Remember, you are not alone. I was pleased to show the naysayers that they were wrong. 7&6=thirteen () 16:52, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Mary Bagot Stack, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 02:10, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Ann Conolly

Hello MerielGJones. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Ann Conolly".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Ann Conolly}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Puffin Let's talk! 22:33, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Liverpool meetup

Hi Meriel, thanks for putting your name down for the meetup in Liverpool this weekend. It's always good to see new faces. However, so far there are only three names on the list: me, you and @Mike Peel. Mike and I have considered postponing the meetup unless more people sign up – ideally we need a minimum of four. There's always the risk that no-one will show up (it's happened before – I was the only person there).
If anyone else puts their name down, it's going ahead, and hopefully we'll see you there. But if there are no more names by Saturday evening, then I'll cancel. So I suggest you check the meetup page before leaving home.
If it is cancelled, and you still want to know more about Wikipedia, then you can always drop me or Mike a note on our talk pages and we'll try to help. Or perhaps you could come to the next Manchester meetup which I think will be 21 or 22 Feb (to be confirmed), and I expect there'll be another meetup in Liverpool in March. Cheers, Bazonka (talk) 17:36, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Two more people have just signed up, so it'll be going ahead! See you there, Bazonka (talk) 18:34, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Hello Meriel, it was nice meeting you yesterday. Just give any of us a shout if you need help with anything - though you seem to already have the hang of it. Hope to see you again at future meet-ups (if we can make it too!) ツStacey (talk) 09:59, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

The article Kate R. Rosenbloom has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ceradon (talkcontribs) 01:14, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Good to meet you. I am new to this game.

There are many more things we could add to Rachel's page, such as details of her political career. I will try to add some of this stuff when I have time!

AfC notification: Draft:Marian Lyons has a new comment

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Marian Lyons. Thanks! JSFarman (talk) 12:24, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Ana Hulea, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months.

HasteurBot (talk) 01:33, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Reviewed - well done! The only addition which I recommend is adding a footnote to the end of the === Edu and early life === subheading.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|SamHolt6}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

{{Re|SamHolt6}} Hi! Glad you liked it. I do not understand what a footnote is, or what it could be about. I have added an in-line citation for the source of the second sentence in the === Edu and early life === subheading in case that is what you meant. Please advise!

Also, what is this page review process for?

Please delete this until you get a consensus to add it. Thanks. CassiantoTalk 11:40, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Infoboxes

Just a heads, it is a very sticky subject for some people. There have even been a couple ARBCOM cases on the subject WP:ARBINFOBOX & WP:ARBINFOBOX2. PackMecEng (talk) 16:56, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Important Notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in discussions about infoboxes and to edits adding, deleting, collapsing, or removing verifiable information from infoboxes. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
