Extra eyes on possible reverse-copyvio

Hey Moneytrees, hope you're doing well. I'm bugging you because I know you do a lot with copyvios and I've never dealt with anything more complicated than "new page or new sections with obvious copyvio." I've temporarily declined a G12 at A1 motorway (Cyprus) because I think this is a reverse copyvio situation (and if so, the external site is copying without attribution or proper licensing). The page text matches [1], but the Internet Archive only has archived the external page since 2014 (and they were near-identical at that point) and the domain itself has only been registered since 2011. Meanwhile, the copyvio section is the first paragraph of the page, which has largely existed in its current state since the page was created and last had significant updates in 2013. When you have a chance, would you mind taking a look at this? I'd appreciate the second pair of eyes in case I'm way off base. creffett (talk) 00:14, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

@Creffett: Hmmm, I'm not Money but I have worked in Copyvios for a bit, I almost sure this reverse copyvio giving the age of the article compared to the age of the Website. I think you made the right choice of declining the G12. But Money may beg to differ. Best, Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) (What I have Done.) 01:00, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Creffett, This is a tricky one. I'm sure it's a backwards violation, although one wouldn't be mistaken if they though it wasn't. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 02:20, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

My edits on the WIV page + New page prospect

Hi!

Thank you very much for the message you left me on my talk page. I really feel like people want to welcome "new" users (2011 account XD). I have soooooo many questions for you. I wanted to thank you also for the CC by 4 thing you added in my citation, I used my usual paper/thesis citation knowledge and I don't deal with copyright when citing scientific papers. I must tell you that I was pretty scared that older users would immediately remove what I added because of the reception of my proposal in the talks section. I felt like they were very condescending. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. Do you think there is anything that I did that needs improvement?

I also wanted to tell you that I want to create a page about a new x-ray inspection method that I have been working on in my M.Sc. and that I will be continuing during my Ph.D. next year. The problem I have is that it is linked to a company that patented the method. I know what is public knowledge about that method and what isnt. And I wanted to have your opinion on the subject because I want this method to be documented somewhere, but I have been looking at this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Your_first_article#Are_you_closely_connected_to_the_article_topic? and it said that maybe to be able to do something like that you can seek for help. And by looking at your experience with copyrights I think I found just the right person!

Thank you again for your help and I hope to hear from you soon! Feynstein (talk) 21:51, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Oh and I also wanted to know what is the way to look for pages that need improvement in my current field of expertise. I might want to get more editing experience before doing something big like that. Feynstein (talk) 22:04, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

@Feynstein: I’m not Moneytrees but I could help. I think you should read WP:OR because if you are putting research that you Did your self you are not allowed to put that info. It has to be from a reliable source.
2. You can look for a WikiProject of your likings (Like if you like Lakes go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Lakes) and go to where they have a list of articles and looks for stubs, then you can expand the articles. Remember to read WP:RS To learn about sources can which ones to cite and whatnot. Hope this helps! Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) (What I have Done.) 22:51, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
@The4lines: Thanks a bunch for your answers :-) It's weird because even though you pinged me I did not see any notification for you message... I don't understand completely how the notification system works and I see myself running around the talk pages where I am writing looking for updates. Any help would be appreciated... And I hope that I won't be in trouble for the WIV page... I read it and I found it lacked neutrality... like big time... if it evers get heated too much and people start looking at me for a ban or something over stuff I wrote, is there a way to know before hand so that I leave it alone? And is there a way to see if I have infriged any rules? That's something I don't want to do accidentally. Thanks again :-) Feynstein (talk) 23:09, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
@The4lines: Oh I see what you mean by original research... yeahhhh. thats a good way to get doxxed lol... might want to contribute later under my real name if it is ever created. And I have a conference paper and my thesis talking about it. And eventually while going through my Ph.D. there will be more papers I guess. But I don't intend to be doing this anytime soon. Feynstein (talk) 23:09, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Feynstein, your signature doesn't match your username; that's why you didn't see a notification - The4Lines tried to notify Feynstein, not PhysiqueUL09. To change your username, because someone registered as Feynstein at German Wikipedia in 2012, you'll need to 'usurp' the account at meta. Fortunately, the user never made any edits under that name, so it's unlikely they'll object.

Another way to find articles to edit is to start with one on a subject that interests you. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and you'll see the categories the page belongs to. Click on one, and you'll find links to other articles in the same category. Happy editing! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 11:37, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Basic English

I don't understand what you mean with 'If you are going to reinsert this, please word it more mutually' Alifono (talk) 19:45, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Alifono, Sorry, I meant neutrally.... no idea why I said "mutually". What I was referring to was mostly this sentence: "It seems Basic English was aimed to take over Esperanto’s role as a world inter-language. Churchill made that obvious in his speech!"; I think that should have been rephrased. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 19:50, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Can you help me?

Northern Beaches

Hello, thanks for your message and help. I'm still new to wiki, so I appreciate any help. I just want to further understand which part of the article went wrong? Thanks! HornsbyBbSyd (talk) 14:50, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

HornsbyBbSyd, The issue was the text:
"Governor Phillip arrived from England as Governor of New South Wales and took up duties in Sydney Town. On 2nd March 1788 he arrived in Broken Bay and named the southern end Pittwater after William Pitt the Younger, Prime Minister of Britain. He described the inlet as "the finest piece of water I ever saw". At the same time he explored the Hawkesbury River as far up as Mullet Island (now Dangar Island). The land between Manly and Palm Beach was difficult to travel, however settlement in Pittwater was established soon after Governor Hunter surveyed Broken Bay in 1796. Principal means of transport was by ship.
Grants of land were made to prominent settlers who set about developing a timber industry and farm produce for the markets in Sydney Town. Since those days, urban growth proceeded slowly until the 1960's when development accelerated because of improved roads an a general increase for living standards in the regions.
Internationally acclaimed Palm Beach still retains it's historic aesthetic, and is linked to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse, built in 1881. Originally two white towers were erected on Barrenjoey Headland and were replaced by the Lighthouse which has been a beacon to shipping since."
It was copied almost word for word from the cited source. You can see the report here. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 14:57, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. Lesson learnt! HornsbyBbSyd (talk) 15:08, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

User conduct of 86.129.117.3

Hi there, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to request help from an administrator in dealing with an editor, 86.129.117.3, who has continuously been incivil and has somewhat attacked other editors on this talk page: Calling another editor's opinion "unbelievable": [2] Sarcastically calling another editor's opinion "absurdism": [3] Sarcastically claiming 'victory' over an argument: [4] Calling another editor's opinion pathetic: [5] Accused other editors of being paid: [6]

I gave them a few warnings that they were violating Wikipedia policies, which another editor agreed with: [7] [8] After my last warning, they told me I had "no sense of humor" and I was "easily offended" and said I should "relax". They also asked me what country I am from, which I don't understand how it's relevant: [9]

I don't think I am experienced enough to know if I should file a report at ANI, or actually do so, so that's why I'm coming to you. Also, I'm sorry if there are too many links here, I just wanted to make sure you can get a clear understanding of the issue. In addition, many parts of the article are in contention and there have been several reversions and undos without establishing consensus, so the article and its talk page overall needs attention. Thank you very much for your time and help. MrSwagger21 (talk) 01:06, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

MrSwagger21, that's some pretty obvious unneeded sarcasm/passive aggressive behavior. I left a note at the user's talk page and will keep my eye on the situation; On the topic of ani, you could have posted this as is; as long as you have diffs to back up what you're saying, you'll be taken seriously. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 02:01, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Hello, I noticed MrSwagger21 complaints on me so please allow me to defend myself a bit (I don't have much time sorry). First I have never accused anybody of being paid (and even if they were I would not mind). I am not going to answer about evth point by point because I have no time but I am just noticing that MrSwagger21 does not seem to be able to process emotional and social cues in a very advanced and positive manner, always perceiving things negatively, etc... Come on we are here to improve Wikipedia, I haven't actually done much edits on the article itself mostly on the talk page on which I have try to be both as logical and lighthearted as possible... So please yes relax am not here to be uncivil ("incivil" is not in my corrector for some reason I need to double-check that but I digress) or attack anybody, I have no time to waste with that, I am here to try to improve Wikipedia with the help of other users including you, I hope we can succeed together in all friendliness :) 86.129.117.3 (talk) 02:13, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
I would like to state for the record that I take offense to 86.129.117.3‘s remark: “ just noticing that MrSwagger21 does not seem to be able to process emotional and social cues in a very advanced and positive manner...” This is yet another example of your subtle yet rude personal attacks on other editors. You have also cleared your talk page, which seems possibly suspicious unless you truly are using a shared IP. MrSwagger21 (talk) 02:45, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Maybe having this coversion some where else that is not Moneytrees talk page. I don't think moneytrees is going to like to have agrment on his Talk page. Best, Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) (What I have Done.) 02:48, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
No it's ok.... that's what admins do, we solve people's problems and, in the words of Beeblebrox, "It's cleaning up trash on a website". And yes, that was a rather rude and blatant personal attack, which has not been redacted; I will block if I see more behavior like this. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 02:56, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
I was thinking maybe there is a little bit of lack of intercultural competence as well? I was wondering, is everyone of you American (USA)? Are you guys susceptible to being offended for the slightest things without being able to identify playfulness, etc... ? You don't like being playful? I am genuinely trying to understand what is going on here, please help me, thank you guys :) 86.129.117.3 (talk) 04:00, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Just to give you an example for example you said I was passive-aggressive or things like that, I thought it was quite playful from you and I don't take any offense about these things. But symmetrically for example if I said to you that you are passive-aggressive and things like that, would you understand the playfulness or not? 86.129.117.3 (talk) 04:25, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
And a second example, I think it will be the last, if I said sarcastically about myself that I am sarcastic, how would you interpret that? That I am playful with myself or sarcastic with myself or both or something else? I'd be interested how you would perceive that so I can understand better your emotional reactions. Thank you so much :) 86.129.117.3 (talk) 04:45, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Right, thats what admins do, they help solve problems! Sorry, Best, Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) (What I have Done.) 16:35, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Please undo your Beer Die revert

Hello moneytrees,

Could you undo the reverts you did earlier today on the beer die page? I, along with some others, updated the page yesterday, as we noticed that there was missing information. Most notably, the rules were outdated, and we added the current rules (along with a source for them), while leaving the old rules underneath. I'm not sure why this had to be reverted, as now the old, outdated rules are the ones that show up, which isn't in the best interest of anyone looking at this particular wikipedia page. I'd appreciate if you'd undo what you did as we put a decent amount of effort writing that out and now it's just gone. (I don't use wikipedia much so if this wasn't the right way to reach out to you I apologize)

Thanks

@Fendabenda53: The problem was that the rules you inserted were copied from https://dyeislife.com/pages/beer-die-rules. The rules there are unfortunately copyrighted, so they cannot be inserted into Wikipedia. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 15:08, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Blofeld and Roy D'Arcy

Hi Moneytrees. I'm still trying to contribute a bit to the Blofeld CCI cleanup. At Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Dr. Blofeld 20#Pages 19441 through 19480, I determined that the first diff of Roy D'Arcy is an exact copy of the IMDb bio. Of course, that was 13 years ago and the article has changed since but I believe it's still a very close paraphrasing of the source. Should we completely zap the biography section? Obviously, the best solution would be to rewrite from scratch but are there simpler options? Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 18:16, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Pichpich, This was a difficult one. I can't tell which way the copying occurred (since Imdb occasionally copies from us, and archive.org didn't provide much) so I decided to presumptively remove the material. Sometimes it's just best to cut the knot, you know? Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 01:53, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
And a huge thanks for continuing to work on the Drb cci. I know it's in a pretty slow stage at the moment, I've been trying to focus my attention on other ccis before I get back to it. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 01:54, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi! So you chose to revert and permanently delete my revision on The Way It Is (Keyshia Cole album) article. I understand I should have not copied from Encyclopedia.com but I also added several RELIABLE sources that took me a whole hour to find. Half of the information that I added to the section was not even copied. I would be okay with rewriting everything into my own words but I need the footnotes that I added to it back because I am currently working on that article and it will take much longer if I do not get those sources back. I am really disappointed because it took me an entire day to create the "Background" section and now that it is all gone makes me not even want to improve the article after all knowing that the sources that took me so long to add are gone and I cannot even bring them back since my whole revision was permanently removed. Is there any way I can have them so I can rewrite the section? Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 02:18, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Query

What is copyrightable in He procured the Juris Doctor degree from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth? ——Serial # 16:58, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Serial Number 54129, (sorry for the delay in response; I've been swamped with Irl work over the last few days) It's not. I would have completely ignored that passage, but the word "procured" gave me pause; it makes sense, but you'd think a different word would be used (received, for example). I thought, "is that enough for me to remove it? Is one strange word enough? Is it just an example of Billy's archaic, newspaper-reporter way of writing, or was it copied? And if it was copied, would that word make it enough to be un copyrightable? What would someone who knows about the area say.... but then again, I'm the main editor when it comes to removing this kind of stuff, so aren't I setting precedent if I remove it? And if I remove it, is that a precedent I want to live up to? I'm tired of sifting through all of these Billy Hathorn edits, should I just be on the safe side and remove it?" I decide to stay on the safe side and remove it. But I shouldn't have, because I should set a precedent where copyright isn't so restrictive. I was going to re-add it, maybe rephrase the one word, but Atsme already rewrote it. So that solves that.
Sorry for the overlong response, but it's better to be nuanced and self aware, after all. And now that you're here, whatever happened to the "Cheap Sh*t room" sig? That was one of my favorite ones.... Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 01:50, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Deleted photo that was uploaded to wikicommon

Hello moneytree, just saw your actions on the draft for Vinod Verma. I have uploaded a photo that I gave previously to wiki common. It is my photo - why was it deleted? Besides the quotes that you deleted, I think because they didn't show issue/date of the newspapers where they are from, you also deleted the links under "references". Why is that? Sorry to border you but though I read the help articles etc., I cannot find the reasons. Thank you.Hanuman Farm (talk) 20:31, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
