As I said, I don't talk much..., but I try contributing a lot. Under various monikers, I've been on WP for about 10 years and mainly contributed to the English and Italian versions (with some French & Spanish interventions) in areas varying from History to Judaism (especially the whole translation of the Judaism portal into Italian), from Fine Arts to Philosophy and Sociology, etc. What I need is more free time... as I travel a lot for my educational work. Well, I suppose, when I retire...--Monozigote (talk) 15:07, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. Sorry, I originally nominated this article for deletion under Wikipedia's rules since normally biographies of living persons would need at least one source to be created, but I noticed that actually the subject is deceased. You should still look to add citations to reliable sources to the article. More information is available here WP:CITE. Welcome to Wikipedia and good luck on creating your article. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. Connolly15 (talk) 16:52, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Will do, ta.--Monozigote (talk) 16:57, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Good point from Dunn, but probably needs to go to a new subsection of some type, for it is not about the OT. I will leave it to you. Cheers. History2007 (talk) 21:18, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

You're right. I'm really unsure how to subtitle it: the whole exposition of this theme has essential O.T. roots, but it continuously compares & contrasts with Johannine and Patristic derivatives... So, how about "Derivatives from the Old Testament"? I'll ponder it, and then fix it. Many thanks for the prompt advice.--Monozigote (talk) 21:44, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Fine, but in many cases the sect title will suggest itself after the section is finished. The heart of it is that Paul, John, etc. were living in that age in that context and drew on the OT, of course. A valid point. So your "O.T. roots" term may be best anyway. But in the long term, some IP will show and change it in 6 months, so cannot be cast in stone anyway. History2007 (talk) 22:04, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Understood, and well said. Titles are not my forte and you rightly advise the solution... I'll recap as soon as I finish the section, which should be soon enough. Ciao.--Monozigote (talk) 22:17, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

I liked the material you added on Christology, and I specially like O'Collins in general. I left a note on Sophia about link formats, in that the Biblegateway links may all get WP:LINKROT if Biblegateway dies tomorrow, but Wikisource is the general future direction of Wikipedia. And articles that already use Wikisource would achieve uniformity by using those. Thanks. History2007 (talk) 20:45, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

That's great, thanks! I'll keep it in mind, and use Wikisource when possible. However, as you may see from various quotations and respective links, from time to time I use different versions of the Bible text and insert the ref accordingly: I check the Hebrew vv. and then select the most appropriate translation from Biblegateway (or Bible browser)... Hopefully they won't die too soon! I'm grateful for your assistance.--Monozigote (talk) 21:02, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Fine. The OT case was not what I was thinking about, it was mostly the NT links. And in general, no one is ever happy about the NT version and using Wikisource avoids the denominational debates anyway. And yes, I do think O'Collins has been somewhat overlooked by others. It is not just his Christology that is impressive, but also on other issues. History2007 (talk) 21:06, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

I'm so glad I found another O'Collins appreciator: I thought I was standing alone. I met him in Rome, when he was at the Gregorian Uni, and we exchanged Aussie jokes... Actually, I was surprised Wikipedia didn't have a bio entry for him - so I created one, well, actually two (the Italian as well). I just quickly read your page and we seem to share a passion for History and the Arts (but my PhD is not in CS - my brain wouldn't be able to cope... although recently I seem to spend my professional life in front of a screen and masochistically not satisfied, I also waste away in the Wikipedia quicksands). Arrivederci.--Monozigote (talk) 21:30, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Interesting that you have met him... He does deserve an article, of course. I actually do not personally know any theologians to speak of - my mis-spent youth was in the computing world. And I usually think of Wikipedia in terms of sandcastles more often than quicksand... History2007 (talk) 22:15, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

The article Gavin Extence has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Randykitty (talk) 14:58, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Jeez, man, give me time! I'm still working on it! It'll be referenced, it'll be referenced, I promise...--Monozigote (talk) 15:11, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

The detailed information that you added about pencils is partly on topic, and partly right off topic. There is an article on Drawing an an article on Plumbago drawing and I presume an article on Pencil. An article on Sketch doesn't required detailed information about all the different grades of pencil and the types of drawing that they suit. It needs to be put elsewhere. In fact one of the other articles I observed already has details of grades of pencils.

You might as well have a list of brush types and sizes, types of crayon, types of ink and so on, because all these things are used for sketching. One of the significant characteristics of a "sketch" is that it can be done with the proverbial "thumbnail dipped in tar" and on any receptive surface, such as a flattened cigarette box, or a damask serviette. Likewise it is pointless to list grades of paper. Amandajm (talk) 13:02, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

  • You may be right. I started it as a short entry for "pencil drawing", not knowing where to place it... In fact "pencil drawing" redirects to Sketch (drawing) -- so I posted it there, but then I lost my way, aborting it. Perhaps "pencil drawing" should be a separate article, and then I could write it. Well, anyway, thanks for fixing it.--Monozigote (talk) 13:58, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Shabbat Shalom, Monozigote! I hope all is well. I have a bit of a quandary for you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:40, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

Request reason:

I cannot understand why I've been blocked: I hardly edit anything any more, as I've retired and dedicate myself to intense leisure activities which do not include editing Wikipedia. From time to time, possibly once or twice a year, on reading a wiki-article, I may correct (often without logging in) a typo or update a broken link -- that's about all. Perhaps I've been hacked? Don't know, but I would appreciate your unblocking my account, should you want my future (occasional) contributions. Moreover, the blockage is most unpleasant -- and sadly depressing -- for an affectionate editor who contributed actively for more than a decade, especially on it.wiki. Thank you.

Accept reason:

See below. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 15:53, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

I do not see a block on this account. If you are still unable to edit, please tell the exact message that appears when you attempt to edit. 331dot (talk) 23:02, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

I I knew it, there must be some glitch! Here's what appears each time I try to do any edits: "You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

These blocks can affect users who have done nothing wrong. If you are a legitimate user, follow the instructions below to edit despite the block. Users who are the intended target of a range block may still appeal the block. IP users (without an account): If you do not have an account and wish to bypass this block, an account can be created to allow you to edit. Registered users (with an account): Please make sure you are logged in to your account. If you are unable to edit while logged in you may request IP block exemption to bypass blocks unconnected with you that affect your editing. Post an unblock request to your user talk page.

I've granted you IP block exemption, which should let you edit through any blocks we need to perform to stop unrelated vandalism. You can contact me if you have any further problems. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 15:53, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Thank you NinjaRobotPirate - It works (to test it, I've just fixed a broken link). Ciao.

Copyright problem: Epigraphy

Hi, Monozigote; the following message is about some edits from ten years ago, so more than likely you will have no recollection of it. Apologize for templating you, but adding the following is required by the guideline on copyright I'm following.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Epigraphy article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text—which means allowing other people to modify it—then you must include on the external site the statement: "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, and under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribute Share-Alike".

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the Help Desk. You can also leave a message on my talk page. Mathglot (talk) 04:00, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
