Copyright issues

Hi there,

I wanted to call particular note to the copyright concern in the AFC helpdesk answer you got.

Currently there isn't sufficient detail on your uploaded photo to confirm that wikimedia has the right to use the photo, so it may be deleted in a week.

The picture appears to be from a US newspaper printed in 1948. This means there are two likely options: either the newspaper didn't renew its copyright, in which case it's in the public domain, or it did, in which case it still has it and it can't be used. Checking this can be a bit fiddly - there's a few guides on the web like this one (see "how to check copyright status"), but you'll need to decide your willingness to check for it. Wikipedia and copyright

Hello Mritch999, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

• You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase.
