Godofundead30

I reported this user at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/GodofUndead30 after noticing some odd edits and what seemed to be WP:EVADE, while he was still unblocked. Looks like you already blocked him again. Is there a procedure I should follow now to close it, or should I leave the investigation open so in the future the facts are known if there's a recurrence? -- ferret (talk) 16:14, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Let's leave the investigation open to make sure there are no sleeper accounts. I've commented on the SPI page. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 18:17, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Allafricancinema

Hello Nawlin I do not know how to leave a message on your talk page so I have written it here for you to see. you immediately deleted my page allafricancinema which I think u should have given me time to edit up to your standard. I was on my way to writing about several online African platform as this is lacking on Wikipedia as a whole especially when compared to other north american and European online platforms. I did follow the format for blinkbox even though this is a bigger site. Thank you for killing my enthusiasm even before I get started and I bet you're not even African. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Obi-talker (talkcontribs) 15:16, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Whaaaaaaaat...

I can't get my head around it, what just happened with this article!? Basalisk inspect damageberate 20:03, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • An IP had added promotional language to an otherwise-ok article. Another admin deleted the whole article as spam. A new user tried to rewrite it, but also in promotional fashion. I deleted that one, but then looked at the history and realized that the spam should have been reverted in the first place, without deletion of the article. So I restored and reverted. NawlinWiki (talk) 20:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks for explaining. Basalisk inspect damageberate 20:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • That is a valid source. Now you need to fix the second problem, which is that the article was a cut and paste of the band's Banglamusic page. If you can rewrite the article in your own words, following Wikipedia's reliable sourcing and neutrality requirements, feel free to repost. NawlinWiki (talk) 15:43, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article restoration

Hello. I saw that you had recently deleted this article as it had been created by a banned user. The article had sufficient content and was made to minimize the length of the topic article. While it would seem pertinent to revert abusive edits, this one was indeed constructive and the user had given a valid reason to create it. Could you restore it for that sake? Secret of success (talk) 14:11, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The general consensus is that edits by banned users should be immediately removed whether good faith or vandalism. The reason is because banned users are no longer allowed on Wikipedia. It sounds counter productive, but consider this for a moment. There was a legitimate reason for their ban. If we allow even good edits to stay, they are not really banned from editing. Editing would still be allowed albeit more tricky. In addition, if we remove their edits then it denies them the satisfaction of having the edit. They can have no satisfaction of having participated. We generally do not acknowledge removing it or any other acknowledgement of the banned user either. This is to deter them from continuing to do so. On the other hand, if you want to get a copy of it so you can produce an article of your own, I'd be happy to email you the contents.--v/r - TP 19:49, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you could email the contents, please do so. Thanks. Secret of success (talk) 14:53, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I recreated the article. Secret of success (talk) 16:13, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Um, what?

Here, specifically. Lorem got caught by an edit filter. He thought creating an account would fix the problem. He found out his IP was account-creation-blocked by you, and assumed you blocked him for hitting the edit filter. So he logs back in and asks you a question in that context. Is there something I'm missing here? Someguy1221 (talk) 02:06, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The full sequence of events:

  • 23:28, 10 July Lorem makes a good faith edit that is stopped by an Edit Filter
  • 22:58 to 23:46 July 10 Lorem creates two redirects and one user talk page in good faith. The redirect from AAAAAAA! is actually a popular page on uncyclopedia. The redirect to sun was from a symbol Lorem thought looked like a sun. The user talk page was a warning for the person who tripped the same filter on the same page as Lorem, which he presumably came across trying to figure why he couldn't make his edit.
  • 00:07, 11 July 2012 Lorem thinks maybe if he starts a new account his edit will go through. He logs off to find that his dynamic IP was blocked by yourself, and he assumes it's because you saw him hit the filter. That's what he was talking about when he left a message on your talk page.

Looking at this, I don't see long-term vandalism. I see a confused newbie who needs a little help, but is acting in good faith. Someguy1221 (talk) 02:37, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • This really doesn't seem like it's a new editor, and the pattern of immediately editing articles about sex and Uncyclopedia is very suspicious. I will give the benefit of the doubt and leave it unblocked (I see that you did so already), but let's watch this one very closely. NawlinWiki (talk) 14:44, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:26, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bariatric Fusion Article Deleted

About a week ago I wrote an article about a company called Bariatric Fusion. Just noticed today for it being 'not notable' or 'advertisement'? In the field of Bariatrics, this company revolutionized post-op vitamin regiments and are definitely worthy of an article. I was more wondering what I could do to improve it or change it to comply with wikipedia standards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bazil4444 (talkcontribs) 15:02, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Revolutionized" vitamin regimens? That sure sounds like an ad to me, unless you can find reliable, third-party sources that say that and not just your own opinion. See WP:RS. NawlinWiki (talk) 16:35, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marisa Weiss Deletion

I'd like to inquire why Dr. Marisa Weiss' page was 'speedily deleted' this past Monday... she is the founder of Breastcancer.org, which is the leading online resource (site reaches 28 million people globally) for breast cancer and breast health.

Your reason for deletion was 'personal promotion' and G.11... however if Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion of any person, then why does (for example) Nancy Brinker have a wikipedia page? She is the founder of the Susan G. Komen foundation, which is no different than the content/page we attempted to upload....

If we are missing any information or you feel the page needs to be fundamentally rewritten, please specify what, and describe what additional content we need. I cannot accept that the page was taken down simply for 'unambigious' promotion.

Thank you.

Please explain why an article that was just created about half and hour ago was speedily deleted. It contained information regarding a language learning company. Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). Deletion of Andy VanDette article

Hi NawlinWiki,

I saw that you had deleted my article on Andy VanDette, due to questionable notability of the subject. I think it is clear that my subject is noteworthy. My sources show that he has worked with momentous names in the music industry and has been credited on many best-selling albums. Moreover, he is referenced in over 40 other pages on wikipedia. He has mastered some of my favorite albums of all time- he's mastered some of the best-selling bands ever. My sources show that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AsingleyMD (talkcontribs) 18:39, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a list of things that can make a creative professional note-worthy: Creative professionals Shortcuts: WP:ARTIST WP:AUTHOR WP:CREATIVE WP:ECONOMIST WP:FILMMAKER Scientists, academics, economists, professors, authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, engineers, and other creative professionals: The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique. The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews. The person's work either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums. See Wikipedia:Notability (academics) for guidelines on academics

My independent and reputable (industry standard) source albumcredits.com shows Andy VanDette's album credits. From these credits, you can see that:

  • The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors. (Wikipedia also contributes to this)
  • The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.

He is so significant, in fact, that BloombergBusinessweek decided to interview him here: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-04-12/making-music-sound-better-on-itunes

If you need more proof of the credits, here are some links: http://www.grammy365.com/blogs/new-york-studio-art-craft-professional-mastering-featuring-masterdisk-engineers http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/artists/d3a68788-a5d5-4ca4-9bbe-411167c2ae7d/credits.mp

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AsingleyMD (talkcontribs) 20:08, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add that not only do these sources show his reputability, but so do the hard, print, reliable, album credits to the following albums: Rush- Sector 1, Rush- Sector 2, Rush - Sector 3, Rush - Retrospective volume III, David Bowie (Hours/Earthling), Deep Purple - Rapture of the Deep, Uncle Kracker - No Stranger to Shame.

Thanks. AsingleyMD (talk) 20:39, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • A lot of people get credited on albums, and I don't see anything in WP:N that indicates that being credited with production work on albums creates notability. The Bloomberg article is an independent source, but it's not *about* Mr. VanDette. It's about Itunes, and merely interviews Mr. VanDette. That doesn't count as a source showing *his* notability. You need to find sources that discuss Mr. VanDette himself, and show why he's notable. NawlinWiki (talk) 14:40, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How about this line: The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work. Mastering is one of the 3 steps of music creation: The Artist's Performance, Mixing, and Mastering. The mastering engineer plays a major role in creating an album.

AsingleyMD (talk) 14:47, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • We can't just take your word for that. Got a source? Is there any indication that other mastering engineers are recognized as notable (in external sources)? NawlinWiki (talk) 14:53, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does it help that mastering engineers win GRAMMY awards? http://www.grammy.com/nominees (ctrl+f for "mastering") Here is a source cited by the Mastering engineer wikipedia page that has already been approved as a valid source that discusses mastering: http://musicmasteringonline.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=35 AsingleyMD (talk) 15:08, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Has your guy won a Grammy? That would be sufficient. Otherwise, we will need an external source recognizing him as notable among mastering engineers. Again, it's not enough that he was a mastering engineer on notable albums. NawlinWiki (talk) 15:17, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, whom Music Radar placed amongst "The 30 greatest live acts in the world today"[^ Archive/Original. "The 30 greatest live acts in the world today" by Music Radar. (16 June 2011)], said this about Andy Vandette in an issue of Tape Op magazine: “I have worked with him a few times and he really cares. All you want is someone who can go the extra mile, and he has an affinity with the music. He’s a perfectionist — I once saw him discard a whole vinyl cut because he could get another half dB out of it — and I really trust him". — Steven Wilson discussing Andy VanDette, Tape Op, Sep/Oct 2009. In 2007 the band was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Surround Sound Album with their album Fear of a Blank Planet[6] and then again in 2010 with The Incident.[7]http://www.musicramble.com/50th-annual-grammy-nominations/ Grammy.org. If this isn't enough, I would like to refute the opinion that being the mastering engineer on very notable projects does not make you noteworthy enough to be on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AsingleyMD (talkcontribs) 16:03, 9 August 2012 (UTC) AsingleyMD (talk) 14:29, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nawlin, User:Malik_Shabazz is repeatedly deleting a comment I posted on user 211.26.243.21's talk page. "Removing harmful posts, including personal attacks, trolling and vandalism." You appear to be trying to "round up" support to launch an attack on another editor, at least that's how I read your question - and that's trolling. QU TalkQu 21:08, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is no censorship here since this is not a free-speech zone. The guideline you link to includes trolling as a valid reason for removal. There's two editors already that consider your comments to be trolling. Do it again and I'll block you. Drmies (talk) 21:11, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages newsletter

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right. It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). We'll be holding two office hours sessions to discuss the tool and improvements to it; the first is at 19:00 UTC on 14 August, and the second at 23:00 on the 15th. Both will be in #wikimedia-office as always. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 16:00, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rare Tea Co

Hi NawlinWiki,

I see you've deleted the new article for Rare Tea Company under G11. The article will be recreated - I'm going to oversee this and ensure that it is objective, well sourced and informative, covering the company's existence, history and notable facets. This isn't intended as a puff-piece page for publicity, merely as background on a notable British company. The initial 5-minute deletion seemed rather to be jumping the gun. Expect dozens of notable sources and a straight approach. We will not be deleting any fair, well-sourced additions - live long and wiki.

Just giving feedback on the deletion. Thanks for your time.

Just a note to let you know that the above articles which you edited recently has been nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dermasurgeon. KTC (talk) 19:44, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Don E. Hall

I was wondering why my entry of Don E Hall under Weber State University was removed? I am a successful businessman who was a student and student body officer who attended the school. If I did not follow protocol, please let me know what that is and I will be happy to do so. I can be contacted at dehall@q2consultants.com 204.126.147.87 (talk) 20:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article did not indicate that Mr. Hall met our standards for notability, see WP:BIO. Also, you should not be writing about yourself, see WP:COI. NawlinWiki (talk) 16:35, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
