Rfa for me within a year or so
Yo NSD. Could you do some work on SM UB-50 from the ships sunk section on uboat.net, as I'm tired. Also, how do you think I woudl fare in an RFA a year or so from now? (I'm askign you this based upon your messages to White Shadows). Buggie111 (talk) 02:57, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm tired right now, so it'll have to wait a little bit. You might stand a chance if you keep up the good work. You should also participate in admin areas, such as WP:AIV, WP:UAA, WP:RPP, !voting at WP:RFA, WP:ANI, WP:SPI to name a few. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 03:16, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm mainly active at WP:CSD, with that said, I need to do some today. Buggie111 (talk) 03:25, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Left some comments there, and I've put it on hold. You should also make the changes I noted (including expansion, sourcing, etc.) for all the other NASCAR GANs you have up right now. • ɔ ʃ → 22:19, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
A Question
So, how do you think that I would do in an RfA? I'm not thinking about doing one any time soon, but I would like someone's opinion. Is the way I edit now good, what I would have to change, that kind of thing. Thanks, Hi878 (talk) 22:53, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)Consider signing up for an editor review. I don't know you that well, but it seems like you're on the right track. Just go for some more experience (that just takes time) and don't do something stupid, and maybe in 6 months to a year, you'll make a good candidate :). Airplaneman ✈ 00:06, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think that was worth three cents, more because of my stupidity than anything else. :) Totally forgot about Editor Reviews. That might just be something that I want to do. Oh, and I saw that you are using my Igloo UBX. Nice choice. :) The other one might have the real logo, but I still think mine is better. :) Hi878 (talk) 00:10, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

- I'd recommend lowerng your percentage of edits in the userspace to below 15% and get your article percentage over your user talk percentage. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 00:52, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I do agree with the Userpage part. However, with the talk page part, there is a somewhat-valid-ish reason for that. The only thing I've really been doing as of late is vandal-fighting, and for each revision in an article, the user gets a warning. So for mostly every article-edit I make, a talk page one goes with it. So I don't know how valid that is, but... Hi878 (talk) 01:05, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think NSD is suggesting you become more involved in article work, such as GA and FA. This wider range of experience helps in RfA. Airplaneman ✈ 02:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't trust myself with article writing. :) I'd be awful, I'm going to stick with vandal-fighting-type things. Hi878 (talk) 02:26, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

DYK's could also help in an RFA. They're relatively simple to get. You have to create or expand articles though. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 03:20, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

DYK for 2010 Aaron's 499
On May 3, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2010 Aaron's 499, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Please stop
Stop interfering with HJMitchell's mentoring of DG. Your transfer of DG's vote to the AFD was inappropriate. I believe HJ has specifically told you not to do something like this, and I know I've cautioned against it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:49, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- So youi basicaly mean stop helping out? HJ was not there at the time so NSd did him a favor. If your going to ABF of NSD's actions I'd suggest you leave his talk page and leave him alone. He did nothing wrong and was only trying to help. This is not a case of "vice-mentoring" but rather a person trying to do the right thing.--White Shadows you're breaking up 22:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Wrong. NSD did something that HJ has said he would not have done. Talking to HJ first is not some silly hoop that DG has to jump through; judgment is required, and it is HJ's judgment we are counting on, not NSD's. So yes, I mean stop helping out as far as DG is concerned. I believe I was quite clear on this before. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:20, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I have to concur with Floquenbeam on this one. NSD has been told before about the issue. @NSD - it'd be best to leave them alone and let HJ deal with it. Airplaneman ✈ 22:23, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Edit conflict x3 I understand your reasoning with this, but HJ hadn't specifically told me not to transfer !votes to AfDs at that time. HJ actually appreciates me helping him out, as you can see in this thread on User talk:HJ Mitchell. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 22:32, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe HJ should give me a list of things that I could do to help that's ok with HJ. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 22:43, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I had not seen his thanking you for transferring this vote; that's unfortunate. I've asked him to come here and clarify what you can and can't do. The only thing that makes sense, IMHO, is that you do nothing regarding DG. This is HJ's mentorship, and as I pretty clearly said a week or two ago, it's going to end up getting DG blocked if it isn't handled with care. I can't think of anything that is so pressing it can't wait until HJ is online. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:52, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

- NSD, because of time zones and things, if I'm not available, I am happy for you to (and I appreciate you doing so) do things like correcting fair use rationales and transferring comments to AfDs on Diego's behalf, however only where something of Diego's is up for deletion. With me being in a different time zone, it's possible that something could be deleted before I could get to it, but where Diego has no involvement with the article, as in the AfD being discussed on his talk page or nothing is at risk of being deleted, leave it to me to decide if the edit should or should not be made. I appreciate your help, but I hope you understand that the main condition of Diego's unblock was that his decisions are run past me. If you're not clear on something, do nothing or post on my talk page or email me or both. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:07, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- There isn't anything on WP that can't wait 12 hours. or a couple of days, for that matter. There's an undelete button too. --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:51, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- True. HJ could undelete a speedy-deleted image since he now has a mop. I have read HJ's comment above. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 13:27, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

- I'm going to be overtaken in the next few weeks/days. I will not be back to regular editing for a few days and I never can seem to win my pool (I keep comming in second) I'll just be happy to advance to round 4. And there is a bug that has yet to be fixed through another bot update with the current scores. I really have 210, not 250 points. Once I get my last GA done in the next few days, I'll have 250 points, that DYK of ours makes it 260 and my GTC makes it 290 points. Then I'll be on my own, I'll have to get at least a good 400-600 points just to pass as a wildcard. As for next year, I'm glad that you're thinking about it :) I'm going to liekly represent Austria-Hungary.--White Shadows you're breaking up 01:56, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

I've nom'd all of the NASCAR races that have been raced that aren't already GA with the exception of 2010 Daytona 500, 2010 Subway Fresh Fit 600 (peer review request), and 2010 Crown Royal Presents the Heath Calhoun 400 (probably still under construction). - Ummm, the user who is doing 2010 Shelby American may be wrong. The others are making GA, which means this one should be too. There is only one detail that makes me a little mad; it is when people say that these NASCAR racing articles are too short and needs to be expanded. I don't believe the articles need expanded, and how long they are depends on if the race was boring or exciting like the differences between 2010 Aaron's 499 and 2010 Auto Club 500. I am for sure that 2010 Aaron's 499 will pass GA. Will you help me, by either adding the table for the recent race here or on the race aricle its self? --Nascar1996 19:46, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

WP:OMT, want to join.
Hello NSD. I've looked over your edis, and they seemed to be geared to finding obscure u-boat articles that we need to get to GA. Not rally. I was wondering if you wanted to join WP:OMT, the attempt to make the largest Fetured Topic ever, all about battleships. It doesn't seem like as if your edits indicate that your interested, but WS, your fellow U-boatee, has done some work there after stalking my contribs and finding that I was working on SMS Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand. Premature AfD closure of 2010 Pennsylvania 500
You recently closed the deletion discussion on 2010 Pennsylvania 500, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2010 Pennsylvania 500. I'm not going to reopen it because I know your work and that you're not irresponsible as a general rule about these things, but I do not believe that discussion was anywhere near SNOW territory. There were two comments, one of them I disputed, and at least one by a user obviously involved in the NASCAR projects. It's only been open for less than 3 days.
Your close on Pit Bull on the other hand is entirely appropriate. I'd just ask you to allow discussion to continue, and refrain from non admin closures unless it's obvious. Shadowjams (talk) 20:06, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry if you thought it didn't qualify a WP:SNOW, but I thought it did since there is a guideline that makes NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races notable enough for their own articles. I'll let discussion last longer next time. The Pit Bull one certainly was a legit closure. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ message • changes) 20:13, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: You should be an admin
Thanks for the endorsement. However, Requests for adminship is a scary place. Anyway, I don't think I'm yet qualified for the mop as I don't usually participate in WP:ANI discussions, or go to WP:AIV very much anymore, etc. And it's always more useful to just dump admin work on other people when I need something done. Cacti
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Cactuses is the plural of Cactus, not Cacti. It is commonly called cacti, but because it is of Greek origin, not Latin (which it is commonly mistaken as being from). Therefore, it is not Cacti (as it would be if of latin origin), but rather Cactuses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.177.47 (talk) 04:10, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Vandal Space
If you find this encyclopedia or its sister projects useful, please consider making a donation. Donations are used primarily for purchasing server equipment. Also, you can help the project by not consuming extra space. Your vandalism space was filled with several huuuuuuge images which take forever to load, crash browsers, and put a great deal of strain on servers. What if every user did that? Btw, I am MfDing it as it seems quite useless.--moɳo 05:13, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- And the "extra space" consumed by 1 of the over 20 million total pages is extremely negligible. Deleted pages aren't really deleted, anyway, and consume space anyway (evidence: they may be restored). And just think: each edit you make causes the whole page to be saved again. See WP:PRUNE. So basically, if you want to stop consuming "extra space", stop editing. Airplaneman ✈ 20:11, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Problem
I probably won't be able to edit Wikipedia for a few days, so I want to point out to you a little problem that I just discovered, so that it can still be fixed. Just go to Shunan English School. Read the first seven lines, and the problem will be self-explanatory. I'm not entirely sure how to handle that, and I have to go, possibly for a few days, so... That is totally unnecessary, but it gives me an excuse to experiment with Twinkle, so I've semi-protected everything currently in your user or user talk space. User:NerdyScienceDude/Vandalism space
Hey NSD. I've gone ahead and moved User:NerdyScienceDude/Vandalism space back to its original location after you moved it to User:NerdyScienceDude/Sandbox 2, due to the fact that pages should not be moved in the middle of a deletion discussion. If you need a second sandbox, you can always just create the new page; there is really no need to perform the move, as the two pages (vandalism and sandbox) are irrelevant to each other. It also generates confusion during the discussion. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:33, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Bot and comments
I placed a comment on a page with the word crap in it. Your bot seemed to revert the entire edit. Did you want this behaviour (to scan comments for black listed words)? It doesn't seem appropriate to me. See Symbian OS for instance. Bpringlemeir (talk) 00:49, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Please stop your false vandalism warnings
Hello NerdyScienceDude,
This is the second time that you've given me a vandalism warning the instant I've saved an edit. You've subsequently removed both of them, but I'd like to know what's going on and to have you take steps to stop it. The fact that it happens instantly suggests to me that you've got it automated, and that something is wrong with your automated feature. Please let me know what you will do to correct it. Duoduoduo (talk) 17:50, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- The first revert was accidental, then the automated program, which is in alpha testing, marked all of your edits as probable vandalism. I reverted one of those edits confusing "shift" for "shit". This is not my first time doing this. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 18:04, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- Please make sure the automated program no longer has me listed as probable vandalism, and let me know when you've done that. I notice a lot of people are complaining on your site about your vandalism warnings -- please learn completely how the process works before you continue using it! :) Duoduoduo (talk) 18:16, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- Your warnings caused this user to think he was getting blocked. I must echo his sentiments: please, either learn how to use Igloo properly or stop using it altogether. One false positive can be dismissed as an honest mistake, but several in two days smacks of carelessness. False positives can have consequences, as seen here, and you don't appear to be taking them all too seriously. Xenon54 (talk) 18:44, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- NSD, I have to second the above. This is serious, and the number of mistakes here is, to be perfectly blunt, unacceptable. Any admin can prevent you from using the tool; and I will do so if this level of error rate continues. Bradjamesbrown (talk) 18:51, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

I then apologize (as you have done). That should help :). Airplaneman ✈ 19:46, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) It was all a mistake. I actually don't want to be blocked. The Thing reported White Shadows to AIV once. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 17:20, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- Let's stick to manual if the tools are yet again malfunctioning. From the looks of this talk page, this is certainly not the first time something has gone run. OK? —fetch·comms 19:06, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- I prefer WP:LUPIN as it goes slower and is not much more manual than igloo. mono 21:06, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

- Wow, neat find! I never thought of Hotel Wikipedia being real. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 22:26, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- I sent you an email earlier today, but MoiraMoira has a lot of cool stuff on her page. I suppose it's better if you speak Dutch, but it's all still cool anyway. kcylsnavS{screechharrass} 22:28, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
