January 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Elizium23. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, 1981, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Elizium23 (talk) 17:04, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Elizium23: Hi! Thanks for the message, I'll add the reference. Best regards! --NoonIcarus (talk) 18:11, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NoonIcarus, thanks my friend. Needless to say, your previous edits to year-and-date articles need sources too. I'm not going to be a jerk to revert all of them, but I'd advise citing everything you can get your hands on. Thanks. Elizium23 (talk) 18:26, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Elizium23: Thank you :) I have added again the entry with the reference. Almost always I include content with its references, but I have noticed that in the year-and-date articles the norm apparently is to not include references. In this case it seems that it was particularly important, since the source in the main article appeared to have a dead link. I'll be more careful in the future, please let me know if I can help in any other way. --NoonIcarus (talk) 18:35, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NoonIcarus, yeah, it's a long story and I am running into some pushback about this. The thing is that for a long time, consensus accepted that no sources were necessary in those articles. Therefore they grew and were formed without sources. Recently (I don't know when or where) consensus changed, and we decided to apply WP:V to all those articles now, especially for new entries. I am currently hunting for the relevant discussion which put that into place. But that is why they are in the current state and I have begun notifying people of this new need for sources, because it is somewhat unexpected, given the history.
Thanks for your understanding and cordial conversation. I appreciate your help. Elizium23 (talk) 19:01, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Elizium23:Ah, that clarifies a lot. I have to thank you once again for the information, it's a good moment to know about it now that there are several articles that I plan on adding to the pages. I'll make sure to let other users about the situation, I can either look up the discussion in question or you can leave it in this talk page, if it isn't too much of a bother. Best wishes! --NoonIcarus (talk) 19:14, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your email[edit]

Everything's good, glad you're back to working on cinema articles! Kingsif (talk) 22:56, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article 2020 Cagua fire has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG. Non-notable fire.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Lettlerhellocontribs 03:35, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lettler: Hi! Many thanks for the notice! I have further expanded the article and removed the tag afterwards. Please let me know if you still have WP:GNG in this regard. Best wishes! --NoonIcarus (talk) 13:05, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NoonIcarus, Looks much better now. Thank you. Lettlerhellocontribs 13:16, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Francisco Rodríguez[edit]

Hi. I've noticed you put a COI tag on Francisco Rodríguez that could be related to my editing. I'll ask you to state your sources for such COI at the time of the edits or remove the tag.Naldox (talk) 13:34, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Naldox:, regards. You have uploaded Francisco Rodríguez's picture in Wikimedia Commons, stating that it was your own work and that its description was "Economist Francisco Rodríguez during an interview in Caracas, on december 8th, 2019"[sic], which can lead to believe that you personally know Rodríguez or that you have a connection with him. Furthermore, over half of your main space edits since 2016 have been about Rodríguez (58%); an article where 47.7% of authorship and 36.7% are yours. Such is the case that after six months of inactivity, you have asked directly about the tag in the article only almost a week after it was placed.
If you believe you have a COI, per WP:DCOI, you should let other editors know about it. Best wishes! --NoonIcarus (talk) 15:05, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @NoonIcarus: as I stated before, photo was taken during an interview I did with Rodriguez in Caracas in December, 2019. As a journalist, I do have contact with sources, but as the ethics code of my profession states, we should disclose COI beforehand. I do not have a COI in this case. I was just checking in my edits today, since I believe I'm gonna start a project on Venezuelan media. I think it was just timing, and the fact that I have some free time today. In any case, WE do have an open discussion about Rodríguez's article and its references open since June. Regards, Naldox (talk) 16:17, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your replies, @Naldox:, they help to clarify the situation, I hope likewise my explanations have been satisfactory enough. Please let me know how I can help in any other way. Best regards. --NoonIcarus (talk) 16:45, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @NoonIcarus:Why is it the COI notification still hanging in Francisco Rodríguez. It is actually refraining me to do any other changes, such as primary sources. Why is this still an issue and how do we solve this? Do we need to upscale this? Regards, Naldox (talk) 22:02, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Naldox: Hi. The COI tag remains because you have admitted mantaining a relation with the subject of the article, and it's important to keep in order for other editors to learn and solve potential issues. The tag does not refrain you from continuing editing in the article, although it strongly encourages you not to. You can continue using the talk page to express proposals or ideas. Also, what do you mean with "upscale"? Best wishes. --NoonIcarus (talk) 15:49, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for 2020 Cagua fire[edit]

On 29 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2020 Cagua fire, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that eleven people, nine of them underage, died in a sugar plantation fire in Cagua, Venezuela, while trying to hunt rabbits? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2020 Cagua fire. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2020 Cagua fire), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Year articles[edit]

No, sadly there isn't, though it's not for want of trying. Nowadays we tend to discuss individual new entries on the article Talk page if there is any controversy, and go on consensus. However, the guidance I usually give new users is that before adding any new entries to Year articles, they should consider the following:

  1. Is the individual internationally notable? (Sometimes, but not always, the number of languages into which the article has been translated is an indicator.)
  2. Is the person already in the relevant Year in Topic articles?
  3. Is a reliable source cited?

If they can't answer "Yes" to all three questions, they should not add. In the case of 2020, I might also advise checking the Talk page first to ensure that the person in question hasn't already been discussed. Deb (talk) 08:25, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb: Fair enough! They look as good references regardless, many thanks! I'll consider them in the future and ask if I have any other questions. Best regards! --NoonIcarus (talk) 21:37, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Deb: Come to think of it, is it alright to include entries whose day of death would be the first in the article, particularly in older years? In other words, is the criteria only important for people sharing a birth or death date or is it more flexible when there are few articles in the section? --NoonIcarus (talk) 22:03, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's very flexible. It's really meant to make people think about what they are doing. Some people, especially when they come here new, see adding entries as an easy way of "contributing". To be honest, a lot of the Year in Topic articles need a lot of work and they'd be contributing more if they concentrated on those, but I don't think everyone even realises those pages exist. Deb (talk) 08:33, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Deb: Understood, I'll bear it in mind. Thank you very much! --NoonIcarus (talk) 10:51, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Devin Stone moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Devin Stone, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Translation request for English-to-Spanish on a short article[edit]

Hello, I found your page through the Category:Translators en-es page.

The article EG LNG Pipeline Suspension Bridge is about a major point of infrastructure in the African country of Equatorial Guinea, which speaks Spanish, but right now the article is only available in English. I unfortunately don't speak Spanish well enough to translate, but I think this article would be beneficial and relevant to Equatorial Guinean readers and broader Spanish speakers on Wikipedia. Thank you for your consideration for translating this, no worries if you aren't available. Have a good day!

thanks for the welcome[edit]

I wanted to mention you on my page but I think I didn’t properly mentioned you, so thanks for the welcome

also thanks for the sources, I am still struggling with wikipedia UI, but I think I’ll get it over time

I also have a question, I have a lot of content that I know by heart that I can add to articles as improvement, is it okay if I add them even without any source?

here is one example of what I have written, let me know what you think and how should I proceed: (this is means to be inserted in the anarcho-capitalism page)

Dispute over Anarchism

There is a dispute over whether ancaps are anarchists or not. Many, if not all, of the anarchist schools do not consider ancaps as true anarchists. Ancaps on the other hand, do not consider the other anarchist schools as true anarchists.

Anarcho-capitalism is, in principle, an ideology centered around consent at it’s core. This makes it reject any type of coercion, being it done by an individual or an authority, and being the free-market and respect to private property the only compatible socioeconomic organizations with it.

Because of it’s principle, ancaps are first capitalists. It is by accident that their principles that all relationships in society should be consented leads to the notion that a government should also be consented (aka, private governance). Because of this, a state would cease to exist, causing the “anarcho” prefix Ancap has (while governing services still exist).

Because of this, it raises the dilemma of _what it means to be anarchist?_ Some anarchist schools do not consider Ancap to be anarchist because it allows hierarchies (the private governance), others says that Ancap is not anarchist because it causes hierarchies by allowing private property of means of production (which to them needs a state to exist and they believe it cannot exist without it). And on the the other hand, ancaps do not consider these other anarchist schools to be anarchists because they would intervene by force in a consented hierarchy.

So ultimately, Ancap is an ideology centered around consent, and by consequence, capitalism, that happens to take consent to such extreme that even governments would also work under the price system. That’s the only thing that can be said for sure. But it still is possible to see ancaps calling themselves anarchists to the point where “anarchist” and “capitalist” becomes interchangeable terms from their point of view. Iron Capitalist (talk) 23:05, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Iron Capitalist:, hi! In short, no, it is never alright to include information that is not references, specially when talking about something like political theory, contrary to reportable facts or events. If you know the information by heart then it surely means that you must have learned or read it from somewhere, is that right? You can try recalling where did you find the information and cite it in the article, if you wish.
I would also advise to be extra careful to not include personal interpretations or thoughts, and you can cite one or multiple scholars when talking about a definition ("According to...", "...argues..."). If you have time, I would recommend you to read or take a look at Help:Introduction, whose link is included in your welcome message, as well as Wikipedia:No original research#Verifiability and Wikipedia:Verifiability. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards and happy editing! --NoonIcarus (talk) 17:23, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Elizium23. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, 1990, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Elizium23 (talk) 16:03, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Elizium23: Thank you for reminding me again. I also included entries in the 2012 and 2013 articles with respective references, but it slipped from my mind in this case. I have restored the content with the appropiate reference. Best regards! --NoonIcarus (talk) 16:08, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Advice?[edit]

Hi and thanks so much for your contributions to improving the Nicaragua coverage—it’s so thin and needs so much work! Since you’ve been involved, I wondered if I could ask for a suggestion: I would like to nominate Medardo Mairena for DYK but I’m not sure what an interesting fact would be, while paying special attention to neutrality because of the attention on the homepage. If you have time to read it and anything jumps out as especially interesting, I’d be grateful to hear it! Thanks much. Innisfree987 (talk) 07:46, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(Or any other suggestions you have about improving the entry, would welcome those too! Innisfree987 (talk) 07:48, 14 July 2021 (UTC))[reply]
@Innisfree987: Hi! Thanks! I have to thank you too for your contributions as well; they're badly needed, especially due to the incoming elections. In my experience, personal traits and anecdotes are usually excellent material for hooks, what could usually be considered as trivia. The one that catch my eye the most is that he grew "corn, quiquisque, and yucca", but there might be references that include more biographic informatio. I could also ask how prominent the Constitutionalist Liberal Party and wonder if there is additional information about his family. I think the current hook is alright because it can be considered as trivia, but I hope the mention of politics is not too problematic. In any case, luckily you're still able to include additional hooks once the nomination has started. Good luck with your nomination! I'll see if I can give a hand later. --NoonIcarus (talk) 00:36, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NoonIcarus, thank you for checking it out—yes my concern was that most of the sources about him focus on politics, which is not great for DYK but it’s hard to think of something else... but yes maybe there is a way to make what he farms sound “hooky”. Thank you, I will give that a try and by all means, yes I’d welcome any ideas for additional hooks that can still be added. If I’m overlooking any interesting sources, also, would be glad to know! Your collaboration is much appreciated. Innisfree987 (talk) 01:01, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regime change pages and Cuba[edit]

Hello @NoonIcarus:, thanks for your contributions on United States involvement in regime change and the Latin American page. The pages are already much better than before. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the discussion on the Talk:Central Intelligence Agency regarding this section Central Intelligence Agency#Cuba: Sabotage and Terrorism. I corrected some misrepresented sources and reorganized the section but was completely reverted with frankly false reasoning. The section is not very balanced at all and poorly written. New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021[edit]

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello NoonIcarus,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Notice

The article Angola–Kosovo relations has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Substance and sources in this article are not about bilateral relations between Angola and Kosovo, but about Angola–Serbia relations, even if Kosovo independence have been treated in meetings between Angolan and Serbian politicians and diplomats.

I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.

Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).

The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

2020 Barquisimeto shooting moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, 2020 Barquisimeto shooting, is not suitable as written to remain published.
