IP user edits

I see that the IP has been vandalizing other pages, although the edit they are attempting to make to the Maine article is at least a legitimate content change(even if without explanation). 331dot (talk) 21:25, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Robert Halpin

You have deleted my update on the above as has another person SparklingPessimist. I originally did post references as in a death cert and a mention of Findagrave for the grave information. I posted back more detailed link to these two pieces of information to SparklingPessimist. But I do not know if I did so successfully ? I find this format very confusing for an amateur to master.

I fail to see what problem there is in my factual account of the death of Robert Halpin. His death certificate is now available online and details his diabetes and final illness. This information is missing from the original Wiki site. I have a family history interest in the man as a forbear of mine was born in same locality and a grandson of same was involved in cable laying in the Atlantic.

Hazel Green (talk) 18:57, 28 October 2017 (UTC) Hazel Green

@Hazel Green: If you have references, please cite them inline. If you need help, you can try in sandbox first (better to be your own sandbox in case the public sandbox gets auto-purged). This includes a brief tutorial of how to cite sources. Also you can go to your preferences and enable ProveIt in gadgets, this might also help you with adding ref. -★- PlyrStar93. All a bit too complex for me just trying to do a oneoff entry. I mentioned a death cert and a grave website, do I need to post the full https etc of the entry? Hazel Green (talk) 19:17, 28 October 2017 (UTC)Hazel

Hi Hazel Green, if you have the URL of the material, definitely put them up, it will help a lot. Just stating "according to..." without citing or linking to the original material is still unsourced. When you state according to something, it needs to be verifiable, so linking to it will be useful (and others can see if the material you cited is reliable). The link, page info, publisher, etc. need to be put between <ref> and </ref> tags and preferably use the {{cite}} template between them. -★- PlyrStar93. Message me. 22:27, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Your edit - namely this one, is clearly unconstructive at best. The only two user warnings are about the previous edit as well as this edit that was reverted by someone else, which is also clearly unconstructive because you introduced a red link with all CAPS. Both of your additions are unsourced and are not acceptable for encyclopedic tone or writing style, and I do not see any problems with the user warnings you received. -★- PlyrStar93. re: pizza bagel

I believe the version of the article I am trying to posit provides the most accurate history based on eyewitness accounts of events. The point that a reliable source is required is irrelevant. The article is about the Pizza Bagel - not a scholarly topic. The references within the current article are asinine, and hearsay based on the same level of eyewitness sources that the other version has. Just because somebody wrote an article on a unknown online magazine, that doesn't make it a source.

Effectively, this is like trying to get to the bottom of the individual that invented the wheel. The more interesting eyewitness stories on the article, the more interesting and closer to the truth it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edmundstjames (talkcontribs) 00:04, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello I might have got a bit wordy in my "edit" to the GGWO page, however, to say that my edit wasn't constructive is somewhat peculiar. I'll re-edit and will be less word regarding my personal experience and will just post Facts that ARE pertinent to the article as readers/interested parties should know what really happened. your edit of Samad al-Shan

Many thanks for your editing. Not quite sure what I did wrong with the Samad txt, but now it seems OK. Sometimes the Wiki guidelines are a bit daunting. I was busy today and will look, if I can find errors in my Wiki interpunctuation. I stopped writing and updating my German language texts. Thank you for today's email repeat re Lizq. I do not see any big problems. Repeated invitations to read the beginning guidelines don't really articulate a problem. Your problem might be that I highlight periodicals and monographs the same way in Wiki. I just corrected this again in my Lizq txt.

In the case of the Samad al-Shan text do you insist that some monographs have e.g. Cross-roads... but others (Arabian Archaeol. and Epigraphy) not?

Topics with which I am a special expert through my teaching and publications I often re-edit for content, for example 'Samad al-Shan', 'Archaeology of Oman' and 'Oman'. Often such are in Arabia. Rarely do I do this for South Asia any more. I am thinking about writing about the early spread of Arabic language. Azd0815 (talk) 11:07, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

@Graeme Bartlett: Hi, thanks for taking care of this. There are a few more still at AIV, you may block them even if there are no new edits from those IP's, as they are suspected to be proxies. Also, it's possible that new IP's may come up in the future, so I think monitoring recent changes made by unregistered users in user talks might be helpful. Alternatively monitor filter 249 but this would be a bit slower. There used to be derp vandal filters too, but for some reasons they don't seem to be enabled at the moment. -★- PlyrStar93. Deletion of my Page

You requested a deletion of the 250th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Battalion (United States), because you say its a duplicate. However, I created a re-direct to the original. This unit has recently been converted to an "expeditionary" military intelligence battalion which also changes the name of unit as well (even though it is the same unit). Not sure why you would just request a delete without researching this first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Policeguy31 (talkcontribs) 02:56, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

@Policeguy31: You created 250th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Battalion (United States) with the same content of 250th Military Intelligence Battalion (United States), and changed the second page to a redirect. This is a cut-and-paste page move and is prohibited for attribution reasons (see this administrator's guide, primarily the lead section). You warned this user about vandalism editing. He/she is still at it. How do we recommend a block. Bob Caldwell CSL (talk) 15:53, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

@Bob Caldwell CSL: There is WP:AIV where users can report vandalism. But note this:
1. has been a while since last vandalism, the user should be warned again (with higher level warnings) if they vandalize later; and
2. may not be a simple vandalism (i.e. the one I reverted was a large removal of content by the IP without any reason, which can be seen as a simple vandalism), but instead their additions yesterday may be seen as a content dispute by some admins if the topic is not what they are familiar with, then you might have to use the dispute resolution or even the edit war noticeboard if they see it as such;
3. it's been a while (almost half a day) since their last activity.
I would suggest leaving another message on the IP's talk page, letting them know their addition is unsourced and request them to stop while you revert their edit. If they persistently add them again, use higher level warnings but better off be careful with the number of reverts you do (basically the 3RR thing if this turns out to be a content dispute). That said, if the IP's addition is blatant hoax and they become active again, just present your evidence proving so with reliable sources, then report to AIV with the link to your evidence. -★- PlyrStar93. Hello PlyrStar93. Am I on the correct page for a discussion with other editors? new and inexperienced wiki editor here. I have been reading the page 'Prehistory of Australia', which I noticed you contribute to. The page appears to be a bit inaccurate, and very incomplete. I have a huge number of books on this subject written in the 1800s, and 1900s, on Aboriginal traditional culture pre-colonisation. I don't know why people are ignoring these easy to access sources? Most are PDFs online without copyright restrictions, so free to download. A quick read of the earliest sources tells us Aboriginal life was different to how most modern academics and story tellers tell it. Re-writing history, and covering up history seems to be quite common in Australia. I wonder why? Happy to share my list of recommended books.Alabama81bornandbred (talk) 11:39, 10 December 2017 (UTC)

Something's wrong

"To ignore the sacred character of the phallus is dangerous whereas by worshiping it one obtains pleasure (bhakti) and liberation (muktir ("Lingopasana Rahaysa").[38]"

Where does one see a translation of "bhakti" as "pleasure"? Bhakti means devotion. Though there is a long history of devotion to the phalllus, to combine "worship" with "pleasure" while sounding devotion seems misleading at worst and muddled at best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.115.184.80 (talk) 11:45, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
