A tag has been placed on Category:Irrigation in Ethiopia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Dogu'a Tembien into Tigray Region. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 15:02, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fetien Abay requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from awib.org.et/newsite/prof-dr-fetien-abay-a-pioneering-plant-seed-scientist. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Rastakwere! Your additions to Abiy Ahmed have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:14, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can I suggest that you have a look at WP:DUE and WP:NPOV. Under no circumstances would we ever call a nation a "thief nation" in the intro, or mention specific recent disputes in the first paragraph. – Thjarkur (talk) 19:38, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discretionary sanctions alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes). Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Permission for use of images[edit]

If an image is to be used in Wikipedia, there must be permission from the copyright holder to upload it. Please see this page for instructions on how to send permission (it has to be from the copyright holder, we can't just take your word for it). Also, the permission cannot be restricted to just Wikipedia. Per the terms of the Creative Commons license, anyone will be able to use the image, even for commercial purposes, without permission or compensation to the photographer. In fact, since some of the images, like this one, are dedicated to the public domain, the photographer would lose all rights in the image, including the right to be credited as the author. ... discospinster talk 20:06, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The image you mention has been uploaded from Twitter. By posting it on Twitter the author has already thrown it to the public domain... Rastakwere (talk) 05:14, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How would the interface do that? It's the responsibility of the uploader to verify that the copyright holder has given the proper permission. If this cannot be shown the image will be deleted. ... discospinster talk 14:28, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ala'isa[edit]

Hey hold your horses. Slow down! I may well be a Ukrainian, but I promise you that I am not a "European". I identify with my Slavic brothers only - not French, English or Danish people. And when it comes to people consciousness, I am 100% with the darker-skinned people of Africa. I made the deletion due to the fact I honestly don't feel it helps the article delivering the obituary of a local newspaper: names and ages of victims. Think about it - supposing one of the identities got muddled up and the named person is still alive while an actual deceased victim is not on the list. How would a reader be able to know this? If you confuse the recently killed President of Chad for someone else, we could verify it due to the notability of the individuals in question. And if there is anything similar for the lighter-skinned "European" people, I will support the same action of its removal. --Coldtrack (talk) 19:34, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Source is given; to the best of our knowledge, this list is correct. Rastakwere (talk) 19:36, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're missing the point. A list of victims and their private details is not notable, regardless of continent. Do you see a roll-call at Hungerford massacre? --Coldtrack (talk) 20:47, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
At the Hungerford massacre the names of the victims are mentioned, with full detail of how they were killed. Hopefully there will also be an international inquiry in Ala'isa. Till then we have only the list of victims. And I just checked other massacres randomly, see for instance the list of victims at December murders.Rastakwere (talk) 04:40, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well all right, I've restored them. But some massacres in this world are even bigger, such as the systematic Indonesian mass killings of 1965–66. Can't list hundreds of thousands of names even if we have them. --Coldtrack (talk) 04:55, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
True for the Indonesian massacre; though that could also be broken down in a large number of smaller massacres - but probably that info is not available (anymore).Rastakwere (talk) 06:08, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Tsadkan Gebretensae[edit]

On 25 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tsadkan Gebretensae, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Tsadkan Gebretensae, one of the top commanders of Tigray forces in the conflict against the Ethiopian government, previously served as chief of staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tsadkan Gebretensae. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tsadkan Gebretensae), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Bizet (disambiguation)[edit]

Please note that disambiguation pages like Bizet (disambiguation) are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory

Per WP:DABPRIMARY, the primary topic, in this case Bizet, goes at the top of the page. Leschnei (talk) 11:53, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bad advice[edit]

Hi there. I haven't looked into the details of this revert you made, but just to note that the advice you gave Desta Tessema in your edit summary ("please become a bona fide editor first; write some articles of your own, and then slowly start editing other peoples' work") is bad advice. There is no ownership of articles on Wikipedia and, as is frequently explained to new editors at the Teahouse, it's much better to build experience editing existing articles before attempting to write new ones from scratch. ANI[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

October 2021[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Ethiopian Airlines shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Jetstreamer Talk 11:45, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, sorry. yet, most of the edits that I reverted were done by IP-editors without justification from their side either. But OK, let's pick it up. See this sentence in the lead that I tried to reformulate towards a consensus: "...and is wholly owned by the country's government. As such, the Airlines carry out government policies, including ethnic profiling and military transports during the Tigray War.[1]". I think corporate ethics has its place in the lead also.Rastakwere (talk) 12:03, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category bug[edit]

hi Rastakwere, see Wikipedia:Tip of the day/August 23 which explains how to avoid accidentallly putting a page into a category when that's not the intention. To add a link to a category in an article (as opposed to adding the article to a category) create a normal link to the category page but place a colon at the beginning of it,... Your version, without a colon, puts Template:Tigray conflict inside the category Airstrikes during the Tigray War. I noticed the problem with having 139 articles in the category Category:Airstrikes during the Tigray War, but I think we just have to wait a few minutes (if we're unlucky, maybe longer) while the servers update how they classify the articles.

You'll see that I put the colon in my link to the airstrikes category in the previous paragraph. If I had not included the colon, then your own talk page would have been classified in the airstrikes category! So I suggest that you revert your reversion and we'll both have to wait a bit. Boud (talk) 17:24, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

aha - let's try Rastakwere (talk) 17:58, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looks OK to me now (7 pages) - in an editorial sense. It's unfortunate that the category exists at all and that the Tigray War template's existence is justified, so "OK" is not the right word in that sense... :( Boud (talk) 18:57, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify: the proposal is to delete 106 articles, not just 1. Boud (talk) 15:52, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, there is collusion by WMSR and Dawit S Gondaria to do this. Are they running a bot to put labels on articles that I created? Looks like vandalism. How to handle this? Rastakwere (talk) 19:21, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see no hints in WMSR's and Dawit S Gondaria's editing record to suggest at any form of collusion. WMSR has answered elsewhere regarding the software techniques that s/he used, and s/he takes responsibility for any errors or mess that results from using that sort of software. Since you asked: if I were you, the way I would handle it would be an apology for assuming bad faith. That doesn't mean agreeing with the deletion proposal, which is a separate issue. We all make mistakes, and apologies can help to smooth hurt feelings. The deletion issue itself is under discussion at the mass-AfD page. Boud (talk) 15:27, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2020 May Kado massacre (2nd nomination) has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. Please use the user warnings sandbox for any tests you may want to do, or take a look at our introduction page to learn more about contributing to the encyclopedia. I know I tagged your contribution in that AfD as an SPA, but counter-tagging what seems to you to be an opponent is not an appropriate use of the tag, nor does it help to improve the encyclopedia. Your edit history shows all or most of your edits related to the Tigray War, which is the topic of the AfD, and I clarified my tag as 'tigray war topics'. The other editor's edit history shows a broader interest and includes numerous collaborations with other editors to improve articles or improve their skills in editing of Wikipedia. Tagging them in the AfD as SPA was incorrect Platonk (talk) 17:36, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:57, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are you Jnyssen?[edit]

hi Rastakwere. Are you the user Jnyssen, as currently being investigated? Boud (talk) 02:41, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you two are in fact the same person, then my suggestion would be to make a clear statement of apology before the SPI procedure is closed. Wikipedia blocks and bans are intended to protect Wikipedia, not to take revenge. You might be able to convince the community to only give you a six-month or 12-month ban rather than an indefinite ban. Boud (talk) 16:14, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lemlem moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Lemlem, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
