Template:Wikiproject ballet
Hi Robertgreer, I undid your edit to the {{WPBallet}} template on Talk:Ty Gurfein because I've found when one uses the WP:Ballet template, the template will not allow the editor to differentiate between the importance for WP:Dance and WP:Ballet. For example, if I tried to set the importance to low for the WP:Dance template and high for the WP:Ballet template, it would list the ballet wikiproject importance as low instead of high. This, of course, does not work for a fair number of articles in which I believe the ballet world holds in considerable esteem and in which the dance world in general probably does not (see, perhaps, Turnout (ballet)). I don't know if there is any significance of having the WP:Ballet template as the template used on these pages, but until the problem is fixed, I think it is best we use the WP:Dance template, as it lists both wikiprojects. Thoughts? I've been very impressed with the amount of work that you have put into this project and hope to learn from your experience. Sincerely, Dkreisst (talk) 20:46, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Just letting you know that I changed it to redirect to Regional accents of English; is this what you intended? There's not some use to circular redirects that I don't know about, is there? Thanks for noticing and commenting on my updates to The Australian Ballet, as well as undoing the revert of the work I did at Oregon Ballet Theatre. I have make the same type of updates in other ballet company articles including Houston Ballet, where I added a list of dancers in April 2010. That remained in the article for over a year and I see you were one of the people who kept it updated during that time. Unfortunately, another editor decided to delete the list in August 2011. I attempted to restore it with an updated list on 17 Feb 2012, but that same editor reverted all of my edits about four hours later. Not sure how to handle that, but I agree with your comment in the OBT edit that "this is long-established practice for dance companies and no different than, say, NY Yankees#Current roster". -- Zyxw (talk) 22:30, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately Your addition was also reverted about two hours later. I think that a solution may be to create articles for the notable dancers (to follow the baseball team analogy where most players have their own article). Therefore, all of the principal dancers now have their own article (some created and others updated; see Category:Houston Ballet principal dancers). If you choose to restore the list, perhaps adding linked names would help keep it from being deleted. -- Zyxw (talk) 15:38, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

you're welcome And thank you for bearing the flame of British ballet on Wikipedia! I did a little Wiki-specific punctuating but haven't much more to add. Though an enormous fan of MacMillan I am no expert. I saw Judas Tree and Elite Syncopations in London a few years ago — and no fewer than three casts of Mayerling in two days a few years earlier! All we get here in NY is Manon and his R&J — I prefer the Cranko, and we see even less of his work than MacMillan's. Might I suggest that you take a look at Ángel Corella's Barcelona Ballet? It's currently a section in his article but surely deserves its own. Thanks for the help! That's absolutely fine. I will do some more of my own research online, although I also have access to friends who have performed the ballet who may be able to help. Do you get yourself to London often? There is definitely a great ballet scene over here, with so many companies visiting on tour. Which section in Ángel Corella's Barcelona Ballet did you want me to look at and for what purpose? Was this for improvement? Yes, I'm Spanish born and bred! I danced with a small company there centuries ago. On a lighter note, I find it quite amusing that out of all people you started the article on my boyfriend's page. Barcelona Ballet I don't get to London more that twice a year (!) and have a standing appointment for the Great British Beer Festival the first week of August. But will skip this summer — I stop off for a week or two on the way to or from Stockholm, my regular vacation destination, at Midsummer and Christmas. The ENB is a favorite and, of course, the Royal Ballet. Sadler's Wells and The Coliseum are especially beloved as they still extend "professional courtesy" in the form of the best remaining seat in the house four hours before showtime for £15 to members of Equity, both British and American! You may rest assured that no American theatre management does the same any more for members of Equity, either American or British — not since the 50s. London's got some pretty good theatre too (I have a weakness for pantos.) You mention that you danced for a company — and that I wrote the first draft of the article about your boyfriend. May I ask whose article I had the honor of beginning and what company you danced for? As to the Barcelona Ballet, I was suggesting that you expand it from Spanish-language sources — there must be hundreds of articles — Ángel is after all a superstar, a megacelebrity, in Spain — and you are uniquely qualified to do so! — Robert Greer (talk) 12:06, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Apologies for that! I've now fixed my email address so feel free to reply that way if you feel more comfortable. Or soon your talk page is going to be as large as the bible! :) So who do you sing for? I've always been so jealous of such talent because despite having been in choirs as a kid, I'm completely tone deaf and can't sing a note! David Howard was one of my boyfriend's teachers. He trained him up for Jackson, where he was a finalist. I've always heard such good things about it. I've taken Willy's class before. it's always so pack and full of ABT/NYCB corps dancers in between seasons so quite daunting, even the lower/not-so-pro levels he teaches some times. How did you find their classes? It's funny that I have friends in both major ballet companies in NY (and I've dated some of them) but never actually seen a ballet there. Ironic uh?! Your assistance with lists
Hello Robert, I've been noticing that quite a few of the ballet company articles have list of performers. I am well aware that many notable people don't have WP articles, and that many people are simply not notable. Whilst I would see no objection to including a list of principals or other notable performers or 'alumni', I am slightly concerned to see some rather sprawling lists that contain Coryphées, Corps de ballet and trainees. I have cleaned some of these, but would like your input on whether we could draw a 'bright line' under some of these groups of performers, and have them stated at a more consistent level? Trainees and apprentices don't need to be listed, but even corps dancers probably do neet to be listed and principal dancers and solists certainly do. All of which is complicated by different countries' and companies' differences in terminolology. — Robert Greer (talk) 16:15, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

An old merge suggestion of yours
Hi! I note, that, in last November, uou suggested that Jones (surname) and List of people with surname Jones be merged. The tag was removed from the former article after a couple of months, with the edit comment "rm merge tag - no discussion found". (I have no idea why the one but not the other tag was removed.) I'm inclined to remove the remaining tag, too, unless you want to resume the suggestion (this time preferrably combined with some argument or at least link to some place where similar pages have been discussed.) I'm not really engaged in this; I just note, that, on the one hand, the list is long, and would be extremely long, if anyone tried to make it complete; instead, it ends in a "see also" list of over sixty lists of persons with the name <first name> Jones. while, on the other hand, the surname article contains discussion on the seemingly not quite uncontroversal rigin of the name. IMHO, a merge of the list and the article would be a bit long, and contain a bit too disparate elements, However, if there is a general tendency to merge in similar cases, this might be done here, too, just for consistency. Musicals by choreographer and director
Hi, long time no chat! I just came across Category:Musicals by choreographer which is very sparsely populated, as well as Category:Musicals directed by George Abbott and Category:Musicals directed by Jerome Robbins which have one entry each. I was wondering whether these might as well be deleted, as no-one has expanded those schemes since you started them in 2008. Would you like to add more, or would you consent to deletion (without prejudice to re-creating them later if you wished)?
I see that Jerome Robbins#Broadway productions lists more musicals that he choreographed; if you are going to categorise them so, then Category:Musicals by Jerome Robbins will need to be renamed to Category:Musicals choreographed by Jerome Robbins. – Fayenatic London 19:45, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Musicals directed by Jerome Robbins is more or less complete but it gets complicated. There're shows he directed but did not make the dances for and vice verse. Category:Musicals directed by George Abbott and Category:Musicals directed by Jerome Robbins belong in Category:Musicals by director, not Category:Musicals by choreographer and then there are shows written by Mr. Abbott that belong in Category:Musicals by George Abbott. — Robert Greer (talk) 21:48, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
