<! — Template:Db-csd-notice — > A tag has been placed on Children's Dance Theatre, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate , such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Children's Dance Theatre is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Children's Dance Theatre saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion , particularly item 4 under General criteria. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please feel free to use deletion review , but do not continue to repost the article if it is deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we request you to follow these instructions. <! — Template: Uw-repost — > — Firefoxman ( talk ) 22:57, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Cross-posted from User talk:ff: This is not a private dance school posting a puff piece: Children's Dance Theatre is operated by the University of Utah . The company's founder, Virginia Tanner , received funding from the Rockefeller Foundation for the adult dance company, Utah Repertory Dance Theatre , which Children's Dance Theatre serves as a feeder to. She was also founder and director of the highly regarded dance department at University of Utah as is explained in her own Wikipedia entry (which is hyperlinked from the previously deleted page.) The Children's Dance Theatre is a rare, if not unique, dance company operated by a major university that has been training children to perform contemporary dance on adult level for over fifty years; its alumni are a who's who in the modern dance world. The article included a short list of same; you may not be familiar with these people or the companies for which they danced (or ran) but that is scarcely grounds to ask the entry's deletion. Would you approve of the deletion of an entry about John Quincy Adams proposed by a person who was unaware that Adams was a president of the United States? I do not propose that a contemporary dance company is as important as a president of the US though there are several nineteenth century presidents for whom I might entertain the thought. There mere fact that a professional calibre contemporary dance company composed of children could be nearing its sixtieth year is remarkable; this is approximately the same age as New York City Ballet or American Ballet Theatre , and I should hope their entries would not be deleted! The external link is to a webpage at UTAH.EDU which I reproduce in part; it includes fourteen hyperlinks, the last of which is to a list of major performances dating back to 1952. I reproduce the list at the bottom of this note, and quote from elsewhere on that page: www.tannerdance.utah.edu/cdt/cdtperf.html Please note that the website and e-mail address are all .EDU (private or commercial dance schools do not qualify for .EDU suffixes.) Please note as well that they have performed at Jacob's Pillow in Massachusetts and the Kennedy Center in Washington. Robert Greer "Children's Dance Theatre - This company of young dancers, ages eight to eighteen, shares its performances annually with more than 45,000 Utahns. Every spring, the company showcases an original work at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. The company was established in 1949 by Virginia Tanner. Since 1979, under the artistic direction of Mary Ann Lee, the company has continued to grow in size and programming, resulting in continued state, national and international recognition. During February 2000, a major goal was realized when the program became a part of the University's Department of Modern Dance in the College of Fine Arts. Reply to your comments on my talk page: I am not saying it is worthless or that it is unimportant, the article was simply written like an advert for the theater and not like an encyclopedia article. — Firefoxman ( talk ) 23:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of In Vento

Cross posted from Scope creep talk page and Talk:In Vento (Section Speedy deletion contested: I should think that reviews in the New York Times , Village Voice , New York Observer , New York Sun and The New Yorker would establish notability! — Robert Greer 22:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, no it does not. Read WP policies regarding the matter. It is clearly not notable. — scope_creep ( talk ) 22:03, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

This has been previously debated and resolved in favor of pages similar to In Vento. Please read the (much too) long debates on my talk page (they're way too long — and boring! — to cross post.) If you want I can refer you to various articles' talk pages with further debates. An unrelated matter; please post your comments at the bottom of my talk page (or anybody else's for that matter). You can do so automatically by clicking on the little plus sign between "edit this page" and "history". I apologize for having taken the liberty of moving your reply on my talk page to the bottom. — Robert Greer 22:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Romeo and Juliet (Lavery)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot . A tag has been placed on Romeo and Juliet (Lavery) , by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Romeo and Juliet (Lavery) seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion , articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable .

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Romeo and Juliet (Lavery) , please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD . Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here. — CSDWarnBot ( talk ) 22:02, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Now upgrade it. What it needs most is reference to two reviews — there must have been some. Also consider the title — should it be (Lavery ballet) or something of the sort.— DGG ( talk ) 23:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Done (more to follow). — Robert Greer 23:02, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Removing Speedy at Apres mois, le deluge

Hi Robertgreer, you recently removed a deletion tag from Apres mois, le deluge. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 14:27, 8 September 2011 (UTC) Hi Robertgreer, you recently removed a deletion tag from Apres nous, le deluge. The weird speedy deletion notices that you received a couple of weeks ago: Hi Robert, re: this bizarre notice that you received: the problem was partially caused by me moving pages across namespaces so I can fetch old edits from the Nostalgia Wikipedia, and partially by a hyperactive redirect fixing bot. I've just been informed about a similar problem at Maxwell's equations; see this section of my talk page for more details. Right now I'm going through the edits of the redirect bot, AvicBot (talk · contribs), to find any more examples, and I just found the example of your redirect at "Ballets to the music of Gioachino Rossini". Jason Fowler (dancer)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot . I have performed a web search with the contents of Jason Fowler (dancer) , and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.nycballet.com/company/personnel/artistic/fowler.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page . CorenSearchBot 05:08, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

==== Cross posted from Talk:Jason Fowler (dancer): CorenSearchBot is in error ====

The body of the text is my own wording, not that of NYCB. CorenSearchBot has perhaps been triggered by the list of Fowler's performances, which is longer than the narrative (he is a relatively young dancer and there isn't that much to say about him other than what he's danced.) The list is shorter than that on NYCBallet.com but as a subset would catch the attention of a bot. Generally I have written about ballets and not ballet dancers — I did so in this case to complete the entries about the cast of In Vento — but no bot has ever flagged an entry of mine before for plagiarism. If this entry is felt to be questionable, feel free to delete it as I have no desire to be accused (rightly or wrongly!) of plagiarism. — Robert Greer 05:29, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

The text is entirely my own, not cut and pasted; all that is in common between this page and Peaslee's website (which I cite) are the titles of his scores and the venues in which they were performed, information that is (1) explicitly permitted and (2) available elsewhere. This is the second time I've been the victim of CorenSearchBot's blunder, the other being Jason Fowler , and it's becoming tiresome. I understand the need for a 'bot to look for direct lifts, but this 'bot is not a very bright 'bot and if it cannot be wised up should be shut down. — Robert Greer 14:55, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Morphoses

The University of Canterbury Drama Society and Morphoses / The Wheeldon Company are not exactly in the same league. The former is a student drama club; the latter is the resident ballet company at Sadler's Wells , London, and at New York City Center . Its artistic director, Chris Wheeldon , was New York City Ballet 's resident choreographer for the past eight years and first-ever artist in residence. Among the other choregraphers on this year's program, Alexei Ratmansky is the former director of the Bolshoi Ballet and first-ever artist in residence at American Ballet Theatre ; and Lightfoot León are the resident choreographers at Nederlands Dans Theater . Among the dancers from the past two seasons at City Center are ten principal dancers and soloists from City Ballet and The Royal Ballet , London. This company's repertory is as important to ballet as the All-Star Game rosters are to baseball (and not nearly as easy to find if not documented at the time of performance). — Robert Greer 01:29, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

PPS Thank you for fighting the good cause! — Robert Greer 17:05, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

I think my contributions are doing more harm than good. I feel that certain people have already made the decision to pursue deletion until they get their own way. Obviously from my experience with the Ondine article, I know that such a tactic works well, and it worked in my favour on that occasion. Here I think the forces are working against you on this one, hence why I'm trying to think of compromises. Anyway, enjoy your holiday, if you do enjoy some good offerings in London, do let me know, it's always interesting to know what places people decide to pay a visit. Crazy-dancing (talk) 07:40, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I am sorry that I could not get on to this discussion, as I have been away for a while. I am back now. Is it too late to do anything about this? I obviously agree with you. I cannot see any reason as to why anyone would want this item deleted. The NYC Ballet is clearly important, and plenty of folks, both from and outside New York, would want a time series breakdown of what they were performing. There is so much trivia on Wikipedia already, and this is certainly not trivia. I would also be reluctant to delete anything I think of as trivia, as someone else may think it is important. Category:Ballet redirects

Hello. I've nominated Category:Ballet redirects , which you created, for deletion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion . Feel free to participate in the discussion here . I've also been nominating quite a few redirect pages and redirect categories for deletion over the last week or two – sorry for not letting you know, but I got the impression last time around that you weren't interested in hearing about it (you did say that it wasn't a matter of great importance to you). If you'd like, I can provide you with a full list of my nominations. I thought that you would like to know about this one, however, because of the sheer size of the category in question. Regards, Jafeluv 09:53, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the warning, but I think you now may be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. — Robert Greer 13:45, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

It is certainly not my intention, and I appreciate your comments on the CfD page. My nomination was based on a feeling that these were just categorization for categorizations sake; I'd appreciate it if you could explain in the CfD what purpose the categories are used for. I would have no problem with keeping if they do serve a meaningful purpose. You have been doing great work with the ballet articles, and it is definitely not my intention to make your work more difficult. Regards, Jafeluv 08:08, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

I've suggested an alternative proposal that in my opinion would benefit both editors and readers (see diff ). I would very much like to hear your thoughts on the idea. Jafeluv 13:47, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the diligence! — Robert Greer 17:33, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi again! You probably noticed that the CfD was closed. You made no comment on the final proposal, but I hope this is an acceptable solution to you. I've been selectively merging the entries in the categories to the corresponding target categories ( Category:Ballet redirectsCategory:Ballet etc.). I've tried to remove any duplicate entries, so that for example the redirect Carla Körbes is included in New York City Ballet soloists , but redirects from surnames and alternative spellings ( Carla Korbes , Körbes , Korbes ) are not. This way the categories are hopefully not flooded with redirects. Also, I've removed redirects to existing articles (like Nikolaj HubbeNikolaj Hübbe ) from the categories to avoid duplication. The surnames and alternative names are still categorized under Category:Redirects from surnames and Category:Redirects from alternative names , of course. I hope that the change doesn't affect negatively on your work with the ballet articles. If there's a problem or if you think that I've messed something up, please let me know. Regards, Jafeluv ( talk ) 20:00, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely so. I'm visiting my mother in Ohio and have been busy with chores. Having created Körbes and Korbes , Hubbe and Hübbe , etc., before I was aware of the existence of {{R from surname}} and {{R from title without diacritics}} templates, I had nowhere to put them. A place for everything and everything in its place! Thank you again. — Robert Greer 00:11, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:User fr-0

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Category:User fr-0, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. hydrox (talk) 02:34, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Robertgreer! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 3 of the articles that you created are currently tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

File permission problem with File:Alexandra Ansanelli, Royal Ballet, Ondine, November 2008 lift.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Alexandra Ansanelli, Royal Ballet, Ondine, November 2008 lift.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license. If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion. If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 08:10, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too! You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list. To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.
