Featured Photo?

Guess what? The Cat Stevens photo, the black and white one up top of the article has been a Featured Photograph in Turkey, and I think someone nominated it in the Wikimedia Commons, so, I think the photographer should get some pleasure from basically signing away his photo to us-- please vote for the photo if it's possible. Here: [1] I just want to see a lot of generous people who continue to give to us be rewarded, even if just knowing something like this. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 02:31, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Excellent, it deserves to be featured. I'm not sure it IS a featured candidate on commons. But in that pinking box, it says you can nominate it. You do it, you uploaded it. I will come to vote. Suede67 (talk) 04:30, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Update

Just Say Yes isn't number one on iTunes anymore, but Di-Rect, BEP and Kane haven't got the amount of airplay that SP has. I have no idea what the best sold CD-single is, but K3 is losing in sales. So maybe something amazing can happen this friday and next monday, in a ceteris paribus situation! RichV 10:24, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

It was #1 for about a month (i think) so i dont think thats much of a problem, AND it only dropped 1 place. K3 losing sales is a good sign! maybe top 3 in the top 40 next week?! yay Suede67 (talk) 10:36, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
It topped a small two weeks (rlsdate 27 October). Bodies (the current #1 in the Top 40) is getting competition from his second single so his airplay is falling aswell. I'm happy about it! RichV 11:12, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Nice! Suede67 (talk) 11:14, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Intro

Up to Now is the first compilation album of original songs (and third overall) by alternative rock band Snow Patrol.

I would leave "(and third overall)" out as it seems a bit confusing to me. What about you? RichV 22:38, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Maybe, i'm not sure. But then they have 2 compilations before that. Thats the reason i put "of original songs". Btw, how do you find it confusing? Suede67 (talk) 07:22, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
I forgot to respond! The other two are DJ Mixes and aren't compilations of snow patrol songs. RichV 22:49, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh ok. Yes, the reason I wrote (third overall) is because the mixes are credited by name to the whole band, even though one/two members compiled it. I took that as a cue. In the LTN series, before SP, Matt Helders compiled one. The album is called LTN: Matt Helders, even though he is a member of the band Arctic Monkeys. Thats why. What do you think? Suede67 (talk) 22:52, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, i see your point. But there's still a division between the three compilations. I'd say that UtN is a compilation and the other two are mixes. How about you? RichV 23:12, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes! Good, thats the word, will you make the changes? Suede67 (talk) 23:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Or, like done in hip hop, Snow Patrol hosted the other two. RichV 23:28, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm not familiar really. Hosted wouldn't mean like a concert? How can they host an album? But anyway, if your positive that its a general used term, make the change. Suede67 (talk) 23:40, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
I want to make this clear first, and then I'll make the changes. I'll use the example of Fort Minors DJ Lantern Presents Fort Minor: We Major. DJ Lantern has little contribution in the whole mixtape, Fort Minor is the main artist. Lantern has only co-produced and helped a bit to arrange the songs. His credits aren't featured on the songs. RichV 23:51, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
That makes sense. basically Fort Minor is compiling, and DJ Lantern is producing(?) or giving Fort Minor the opportunity, right? So do you mean to say that DJ Lantern hosted Fort Minor? Grammatically, it doesn't sound right, but if its a term thats used, i'm fine with it. Or as you said before, mix album. UTN is the first compilation, and in the other 2 articles, The Trip is the first mix album by SP, LTN - the second one. That'd be fine too, in my opinion. Suede67 (talk) 23:59, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
It was all Fort Minor material, but Lantern oversaw the mixtape project. I know it's a odd choice of word, but i didn't made it up. Maybe a 'mix album' would be more properly, because if the term 'hosting' confuses you, it can be confusing for others aswell. But where do i need to make changes? Seperate headings in the disco? RichV 00:02, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Ok, good. Dont make any changes on the Disco article regarding this, because in the review, this issue had been brought up, and I had to explain the mixes concept to them. The articles which would need the change would be the 2 mixes themselves. Btw, JSY back on top in itunes NED, did you see? Suede67 (talk) 00:06, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
I made the changes, exept on the disco page. I hadn't noticed JSY being back on top, quite a surprise! But I'm off now. Talk to you later!RichV 00:14, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Review

Can you find a link to this? It's archived so I can't access it. I'm looking for (positive) reviews on Planets, I fell in love with the song again! RichV 00:23, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Haha, it is a positive review. The link (it wont last forever) is here. I suggest citing it like this:

<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.hotpress.com/music/reviews/albums/4965008.html|title=Snow Patrol - A Hundred Millions Suns|last=Murphy|first=Peter|date=22 October 2009|publisher=''[[Hotpress]]''|accessdate=20 November 2009}} '''Appears as:''' "Like it or not, Lightbody tunes like the panoramic 'The Planets Bend Between Us' will take you unawares on the radio and leave you blubbing in the supermarket aisle."</ref> Suede67 (talk) 00:39, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I wasn't looking it up for Wikipedia, just for myself! RichV 21:23, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Haha, alright! But why'd you need a positive review then? SP always gets mixed reactions, but that doesnt mean they dont make good music. Suede67 (talk) 21:28, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Because it makes me think more positve about songs. I try to read only positive reviews because it broadens your mind. If you hear/read a reviewer giving a negative critic on a song, you will associate a song with the critics, so you won't listen to with the same joy. RichV 22:08, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
I understand what you mean, I feel that sometimes! Never thought it like that before. Suede67 (talk) 22:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Nice to hear that :). Btw, after seeing your edit; Gary says here that it was written in the garage of Lee, where he set up a studio. RichV 22:16, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh! I'm assuming the webisodes are clips taken from the documentaries (on UTN). It still hasnt arrived here, when it does, i will cite the video, ok? But i'm in two minds. Q magazine is reliable. So should we keep both sentences? Like: "Q mag reported that Gary had written in.....However, Lightbody himself has said that it was written....."? Because it could be that Gary wrote the basic melody and rough lyrics in the garden, and then polished and developed it in the makeshift studio? I suggest we keep both sentences and keep it like that. What do you say? If you have the album already, you can cite the video. (As I said before, i'm not seeing anything UTN related until i get my hands on it) Suede67 (talk) 22:23, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't read Q, but i believe you if you say that they're reliable. on the other hand, it's lightbody (the main person behind the song) directly telling about the starts of the song. a nice compromis would be both sentences, like you said. i didn't purchase the album. i'm sorry, i forgot that you don't want to see or hear anything before you have the album (i have the same with LP). luckily the important part was on the beginning. RichV 22:28, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
So you didn't, no problem. I don't think it'd matter much though. Basically all articles are always in states of improvement. And since both sentences are to be kept, lets leave the Q one alone until I add the second part. Btw, Q is a pretty big magazine. I dont read it too, but have got to know a thing or two in time time at wiki. Btw, you didnt reply to your query above (previous section "Intro") I was curious. Suede67 (talk) 22:39, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: COBL

Wow, many thanks! I suppose you've been watching my edits to that? :P MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 07:14, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Well I can't complain, especially when you leave me little nuggets like that! I'm hoping to give this a complete revamp; it's one of my favourite songs and it deserves a lot better than the state it's at currently! MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 07:19, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Would you be able to cut a sound sample for me? I was thinking maybe 1:03 to 1:31-3 would work well for the article and what it describes. Cheers, MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 00:34, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Haha, your edit summary. I've added the clip. Again, the specific rationale. Suede67 (talk) 00:45, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Wow, that was quick! Thanks! MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 00:48, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

John O'Neill

I agree, prefer without (guitarist), however, they have just made a sweep of the artists and songwriters songwriter categories and moved a handful including Madonna to Category:Songs written by Madonna (entertainer) (check the revision history). I reluctantly followed that guidance. I see you have moved O'Neill, let's see how long before it is moved back - assuming it is spotted. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:42, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

:(

I'm afraid #2 will be the peak of JSY (new week). Still a good effort of the band, I'm proud of them (although it is far from their best song). Btw, I totally forgot about the references and Nicole Scherzinger yesterday. A cd with exclusive Linkin Park material leaked yesterday and I got so syched that I totally forgot to do it. I'll see when I'll have the time to fix it. I forgot it, so I'm going to do it and NOT YOU! Have a nice day :) RichV 22:14, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Haha, well no problem. I dont mind, i'm concentrating more on UTN for now, you may have noticed i expanded it a good deal today/made fixes. Take your time on JSY. Btw, "a cd with EXCLUSIVE LP material"? Wow you fans must be going bonkers! About JSY, i dont mind if it climbs or not anymore, topping would have been awesome, but its ok. If the competition was with crap like K3, its an HONOUR that it didnt beat that song/band. I do agree with you that it isnt their best song, hell even in reviews they've been loving "Give Me Strength" much more! Maybe they'll release it as a single too? Lets see. Suede67 (talk) 22:21, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I quickly looked at the differences. One new song, and it's OMG xD. I really hope GMS will be the next single, I really love that song and I can't get it out of my head these days hehe. RichV 23:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
"OMG" Lmao...i know what you mean. "Cant get out of your head", now i'm getting restless, I emailed Universal before, and they replied that international orders can take up to 21 days to reach (thats the 27th of this month). Suede67 (talk) 23:23, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I'm SO sorry! I forgot that you didn't heard the song yet. I'll shut up. Btw, which country are you from? RichV 23:24, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Haha, no don't "shut up", i'm all ears for any SP praise. I never told you i'm from india? maybe I've assumed it, idk, because my user page has the category "Indian wikipedians". Btw, your dutch user page is so nice, can you make my user page awesome as well? I've tried checking out codes of pages in the past, but its so utterly confusing that i've given up. Suede67 (talk) 23:27, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
That explains the edits on Bollywood movies and songs! My great-great-great parents are from India :). I copied the style from someone else, but I can give it a try and post it on a sandbox. RichV 23:35, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Nice! Btw, i'm not too interested in Bollywood myself, but i sometimes browse around come across mistakes and stuff (small work/fixes really). Well, yes, working all the time on SP related stuff can get very boring. Of the user page, yes, no problem, I was more thinking of a direct mainspace edit, but no problem if you wanna try in a sandbox first, and the colors, can it be SP themed? Maybe a change of font/font size as well? But, AFTER JSY!Suede67 (talk) 23:39, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay. I'm not a big fan of Bollywood aswell, just one film once in a while. I'm sorry about JSY, but this is the first draft. It wasn't a lot of work, just copy-pasting it from my page. Which colors are Sp colors? Black and red? RichV 00:11, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
It does look good. Yes, red border, and a lighter shade of black as background? How'd that look? The border for the userboxes is a bit off, can it be fixed? Of not, you can remove it. And a font change and a change in text size as well, a wee bit smaller? Suede67 (talk) 00:15, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Don't you worry, I just copied the code too see if it is working. All the errors are going to be fixed, and color can be fixed. :) RichV 15:37, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Great! Suede67 (talk) 17:24, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Im about to sleep but

I did see your request. I'll send it via email tomorrow, like in about 12 hours. Hope that's OK. It's just a sort of made up message I use to ask for people to give up their copyrights on Flickr in favour of Creative Commons. Works fairly well. I'd say 8 times out of 10.. also there are a couple of anticipated issues I have answers to as well to help convince them to take a chance on the Wikipedia. Is that OK? Cause I gotta get some sleep. Oh, one last thing, I uploaded some cool Beatles and other pics, but the last batch included three having to do with the Small Faces, and Kenney Jones who was their drummer, as well as Keith Moon's replacement for a couple of years in The Who. Kenney Jones-- or even the Small Faces, need a Category, since I also uploaded one from Ian McLagan, also from that band. Can you help there in Commons? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 05:48, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Crop?

Hi S- I uploaded a photo with Ron Wood and Mick Jagger, but they're on the left side of the stage, and there's virtually nothing on the right side. Would you slice off the right hand side? I even asked the photographer on Flickr if it was OK, and he gave permission. The name in Commons is: File:Rough Justice.jpg It would be great if you could do that so I can place the photo. Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 03:43, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Done Satisfactory? link Suede67 (talk) 01:59, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Rough Justice

S- is there any way to salvage the photo or re-upload the same one so those little tags you added aren't there? I know you meant well, but aside from my own distaste for the look of it, there's always gonna be some editor here who'll want to remove the photo with one excuse or another. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 18:11, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by "salvage". I removed the notes. There is no need to delete then reupload. The option is there on the note itself. Suede67 (talk) 18:30, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
AWESOME!! Thanks "S"!!--Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:17, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Archived links

I've noticed you have archived various links, which is great, link rot can be very annoying. Maybe you've seen my edits updating your links and formatting your links as citations but in case you didn't I just wanted to encourage you and to ask when archiving to make sure to include both the archive link and the original links too. If at all possible to format the links as citations (cite web or cite news), filing in the "archiveurl" and "archivedate" parameters, and also providing the original link "url" that would be great. See Template:Cite web for more detail but it is pretty straighforward. There are so many rules they are hard to keep track of but I think this it is worth making the extra effort for this one. Thanks. -- Horkana (talk) 22:40, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I know, but in my haste to do as much editing as possible, i've currently put that task aside for the moment. But its not far from my mind. Somewhere in the future, it will be done, dont worry. Suede67 (talk) 03:37, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: Bradley Quinn DYK

Done; most of the time it isn't that hard so long as you make sure it meets the criteria, since the templates are there to be copied when you edit the page. Anyways, I've nominated the article here; feel free to add in any Alts if there's a different wording or fact you'd like up there. Very nice article up there to be sure. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 21:24, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Rough Justice-- see?

thumb|200px|right|Wood and Jagger onstage together in a Rolling Stones concert S- For some reason the nowiki thing isn't in my toolbox options, so you'll have to click edit to see how I set up the photo but I used the cropped pic you did and got this effect. However, after re-uploading it, here is the same photo, different name. thumb|200px|left|Wood and Jagger onstage together in a Rolling Stones concert The only thing I did differently other than show you what appeared from the cropped photo when I went to place it, was put the cropped one on the right of your talk page, and the one I just uploaded on the left. Both were placed here with the same exact formula I use for every one of the photos I upload and place. I don't know why the alt text doesn't work for you, too! Look again at the Tina Turner article, with the photo of her with Eric Clapton. Then click edit, and you'll see how to add the additional caption stuff. It's pretty cool, actually.--Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:53, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

I see the problem now, not sure what to do in this clash. Maybe commons should give an error that wiki has a file with similar name. Suede67 (talk) 22:03, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
You need to UNTAG the new photo for deletion. It works. The Cropped one does not, obviously. Both were uploaded to Commons. Only one, however, the newer one works and is already on the Rolling Stones article. Take the request away. Jeez. Ask me things first before you do them there, OK? Please. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:56, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry you're right, should have asked you first. I guess I got confused because in the permission section of the newly uploaded one, you wrote "Yes, but it was compromised, and must be deleted. It has the name Rough Justice.jpg" I took it the other way. I untagged it and tagged "Rough Justice for delete", since you wont be needing that now. Suede67 (talk) 22:03, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. You have no idea how much I do appreciate the help you give me. This was just a weird isolated incident. Usually, when I upload a photo to Commons, I DO get a warning saying there is another photo with that name already. Maybe I missed it, could happen, I hadn't slept in days, so was tired; or possibly there was a glitch, I dunno. I thought, WHO else would pick "Rough Justice" as a photo title??! Oh well, it's done and gone.--Leahtwosaints (talk) 14:55, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Yep, there should be a warning of some sort, good its all worked out now. Suede67 (talk) 14:58, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bradley Quinn requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Gary Lightbody edit

Suede67,

I recently edited the "Early Life" section of the Gary Lightbody entry because, curiously enough, the first significant details one learns about this world-famous musician is that he has a big collection of comic books. My edit drew together the two sentences about his education at the top, followed on quite naturally with his early musical influences, concluding with the statement about him not being cool enough to be Bono. This point is emphasized well by going into detail about the comic book collection, which rightfully ought to be nothing more than a colorful sidenote.

I didn't change one word of any of the sentences. But as a professional journalist and editor, I felt it was essentially a no-brainer.

Your level of fanaticism means you have the final word, because I have better things to do than get in an edit battle. But reconsider whether you really think a lengthy treatise on Gary Lightbody's comic-book collection is really the aspect of his life that you want front-and-center on this musician's biography.

-SW

69.19.14.15 (talk) 03:10, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

No, thats not my intention. by your message, I now understand your intention behind the edit. My initial intention in keeping the comic sentence at the start was because he collected those when he was very young. Thats why beside the schools note. Then the bit about him being influenced by music and moving to dundee, which the next section picks up. Nothing "fanaticism" about this, nor do I own the article, just because I've made substantial edits.

I'm not a professional writer, so I dont know much about these intricate details you spoke of. If you say its essentially a "no brainer" to you, i guess you're probably right. But you better write an edit summary for your edits, that makes things easier. Suede67 (talk) 03:28, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Bradley Quinn

Updated DYK query On December 16, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Bradley Quinn, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Hey S-- You said: Having enough edits on my name isnt important. My editing a while back (maybe even now) was/is very sloppy. I wasnt really aware of what the edit count might indicate, and I used to make edit after edit (small ones) without realizing that what i could have added in 2/3 big edits, I made 50-60 small edits for that. More recently i've attempted to stop that. So even though my edit count is high, i suppose we can easily remove 3000 of them, atleast, to get an actual count.

Thinking back, my first edits were from an IP address, and thus, I don't even know what they were. I suppose I could find out, but what's the point? Anyway, probably all editors here have the same history of you or I, at first adding crappy edits, or rewording my own edits a LOT. But in the past year, to have racked up the number of edits you have is impressive IMHO. Technically, that medal does say, aside from the number of credits, you have to be an editor here for a year. However, I was amazed at the variety of barnstars that exist! Stuff you and I do on an ongoing basis, from ones for biography contributors, to music article contributors, to the tireless worker barnstar, etc. Seems like both of us have done all of that. For myself, Wikignomes rarely get noticed for their work, ever, and I don't want a trophy room like a bunch of the others here; however, it would be nice sometime for people to notice the work I have put into the Wikipedia. You know that phrase, "I can't get no respect"! I was thinking about those little items, the pendants and stars and thinking that when people are deciding whether to push me around or just be plain contentious, they don't normally count edits. They look to see if I have all those things hanging in my attic. Then, they proceed from there, which is a shame. Thinking I know nothing, reverting my newer project pages if I'm the only one before I can put the additional references in before they casually come along and destroy what you are in the midst of creating, that's all. Some of the "patrollers" like the guy I mentioned who runs around here swinging his big WP rule book with nothing of his own in contributions but minor edits, (a word, maybe) and the rest, eliminating articles before the editor can get it to Start (while a bizillion Unreferenced articles still exist from 2005-2007) or picking petty battles based on personality differences, and little else. The photo size issue is a guideline, but really isn't used, and doesn't make sense depending on how large the uploaded file is! I do a lot of photo resizing on articles that become FA or GA ranked, and I have a good feeling for how big is too big. SIGH. OK, lets not talk at all again on talk pages about photo hangups of mine anymore, OK? I dont mind barnstars and stuff, but I dont think whatever I do needs to be recognized, or that I should get any "respect". Everyone's here by their own will really. But yes, a little appreciation is good, makes you encouraged to continue editing. Btw, some users are only doing minor edits, those you speak, its maintainance work, which IMO is as important as adding content, as we do. Ultimately, since we are editing on wikipedia, we ought to follow the guidlines it states, but I hear you, we should use logic a bit more than the rules. Suede67 (talk) 04:15, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Can you chop a photo in half?

It's the one in black and white on the Superchunk band article. When you see it, you'll know why! I just want the bottom 1/2, since all that crap above the band is stupid. I bet it could be sliced exactly in half horizontally, if you're up to it. We just had a blizzard here! Have you ever seen one? We can't even get our front door open! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 19:52, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: If there's a rocket...

S- I took a preliminary (albeit belated look) at the Snow Patrol song, "If There's a Rocket, Tie Me to It". I think it needs tweaking in the writing after having seen the video for it, and have begun making minor wording changes. If you disagree, tell me. They focus around the description of what takes place in the video-- use of words like the band members "admiring" the origami, etc. doesn't feel right. I think "examined" would be a better word. Sure, I'm picky, but I think it's more accurate and there are a few other words like that which made the wording sound just a little silly, so I made a few changes. Also, they are on a beach. Wouldn't a beach have a bungalow on it rather than a "cottage", right on the sand by the waterline? There isn't a mention of the Japanese lanterns hanging from above, though that may not have any importance. Last, shouldn't the synopsis of the video mention Lightbody singing throughout their wandering, and mention that the second half of the video shows the band performing the song there on the beach? --Oh, a couple more things, about references. Your comment that The Irish Times "Hated" it: Where is the reference for this? Hate is a really, really, strong word. I'd assume that their critique would be in English, too, and yet, by using Google, the only times I was able to find that comment was from every other site it seems, who are quoting from YOU... perhaps not a good thing. I also think there were too many references where the reader would have to know foreign languages, or subscribe to whatever paper or periodical to see what they had to say. Personally, I would have said that the Irish Times panned the song, or some such word.

I think this all sounds harsh, but I think you know that I want the best results for your projects, and for myself, it truly is an outsider's view, (but an insider who has read a lot of song pages here).--Leahtwosaints (talk) 06:20, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Makes sense. That song article was the first I really ever seriously edited, and I will make the changes you suggested. Suede67 (talk) 08:33, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

DYK for An Olive Grove Facing the Sea

Updated DYK query On January 14, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article An Olive Grove Facing the Sea, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Help?

Can you start a couple of categories in Wikimedia Commons? I need one for Fairport Convention, and another for Folk rock musicians, and Celtic music. Please? I've got a zillion photos that fall into those categories! Last, one for the Rory Gallagher Band, and one for Irish blues rock musicians!! That's the main thing, OK Goofy? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 20:32, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

You still busy in the real world?

Because if not, I have questions for you. I took a look at your FA (congrats!) discography for Snow Patrol and wonder if it might be the best format for the Rory Gallagher discography, and where I might find album rating and reviews? And more questions that can wait if you're really occupied. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 09:56, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Category creating in Commons

S- is there a way you can sort of detail, you know, list the steps you would take to create a Category in Wikimedia Commons? Sort of like SpinningSpark used to do for me to teach me about uploading free images? Walk me through it once? I'd like to see a Category for Jack Bruce, or the band Cream-- I need to put some images in Categories like that. I was amazed that Steve Winwood and the band Traffic didn't have Categories. I mean, Robin Trower?! Really! Please show me once and I'll keep the Commons people from killing me. Thanks.--Leahtwosaints (talk) 18:36, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Bradley_Quinn.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Bradley_Quinn.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 07:36, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

DYK question plus

Hey S- you've had some of your work in the Did you know? category. Please take a look at the Derek Trucks article, in his early years. I found a reference where both Derek, and his uncle Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers Band too, both have kept a baseball card of Virgil Trucks taped to the back of Derek's guitar and Butch's drum kit for many years. Virgil is now very old but was a famous Major League baseball player, who didn't know anything about the Allman Brothers Band or any of that, but Derek visited him, and got to know him in the last handful of years or so. Do you think it's interesting enough to qualify? If so, how to I nominate it? I get lost in instructions of any kind (as you well know!) I have wondered how you are doing. Can you tell me? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 05:05, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure if he's still around or not (I haven't seen him around for a few months), but I can try to help if you like (I helped Suede to post most of his DYKs). Is it a new article or an older one? If it is a new article, it has to have at least 1500 characters - this doesn't include references, categories, charts, infoboxes, headings, etc. You can measure how many characters you have using this tool (just remove all of the wiki mark-up to leave the plain text. The article has to have been created within the last five days to be allowed to be nominated, and the part you would like featured has to be sourced in the article.
If it is an older article, then the criteria get a bit more tricky. The first rule is that it needs to be expanded by at least 5x the original content. If, for example, the article was a 300 character stub before then you'd need just 1500 characters to nominate. On the other hand, if it had 3000 characters before, then you'd need the expanded article to be 15000 characters at the minimum. I know; it's incredibly annoying! That expansion has to have occured within the last five days, and as before the part you would like to be featured needs to be sourced in the article.
If all those criteria are met and the article is eligible for nomination, trundle on over to T:TDYK and post your request using the appropriate template (the options of which are located here). Make sure to post it under the day that the article was created or expanded, and you'll be good to go! If there are any problems with the nomination, the reviewer should contact you on your talk page. Otherwise, you're all set. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 05:32, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Acdcblackiceworldtourposter.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Acdcblackiceworldtourposter.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Image copyright problem

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
