Three-revert rule warning

Stop icon
Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Spelling of "grandaughter"

Hello, Seasider53. You reverted my update to Joseph Cerveau where I corrected the spelling of this word. So I checked three dictionaries (Oxford, Collins, and Macquarie) - not one of them lists the spelling you used. Can you cite a source for why you insist on the spelling "grandaughter" instead of the "granddaughter" or "grand daughter" which all of those dictionaries do recognize? Gronk Oz (talk) 23:30, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

You’re ignoring the maintenance tag on the article, which is not good etiquette. Seasider53 (talk) 00:19, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Agreed. But nor is it good etiquette to leave that tag in place for so long; it should only be used "for a short period of time, no greater than a few hours". Some people might ask whether the article was ready to publish in mainspace in that case, but let's stick to the point - that spelling is still wrong and I maintain the correction should stand. But you still have left the error there - is there a reason?--Gronk Oz (talk) 10:59, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Reliable sources

I have a genuine question. Is there a Wikipedia article that showcases a list of different news outlets or websites that are considered reliable and/or unreliable? That would be very beneficial as a source of reference. Also, thank you for informing me about that article about Rachel Grae in reference to popsugar.com. But why is it generally considered to be an unreliable source. That certain editor on this encyclopedia never went on to explain why... Bibliophile Dragon (talk) 19:56, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Discussion on the TrueDepth Camera autofocus change on the iPhone 14 Pro

The TrueDepth camera *system* contains all the sensors in the front. The TrueDepth part comes from the infrared camera in combination with the dot projector and the flood illuminator. The front camera is what actually got autofocus and I think the article should reflect that.

See here for the iPhone X: https://photos5.appleinsider.com/gallery/30966-51220-22813-28065-TrueDepth-l-l.jpg

They moved stuff around and combined flood illuminator and dot projector on the 13 Pro, so the reference is not perfect. 194.39.218.23 (talk) 06:42, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

reversion on Larry Page talk page

Apologies if that was not the place for it but I did not intend that as an idle, "message board" type question. Page's real last name is Davies, and he managed the Kinks, hence the question. If he is related to the Davies brothers then it would be notable, especially since he was fired. 108.28.226.250 (talk) 02:01, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

The source in the article uses "GB", as does the source in the article for the SE 2. Also, the article for iPhone 15 (and seemingly most of the iPhone articles) uses GB.
As for "specify a binary definition in an article on RAM", the iPhone SE (3rd generation) isn't an article on RAM. Seasider53 (talk) 11:54, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
That part of the article is about RAM. --Yamla (talk) 12:14, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Yamla, from your ref "The IEC prefixes kibi- (symbol Ki), mebi- (Mi), gibi- (Gi), etc., are generally not to be used except:

in a direct quote using the IEC prefixes;
when explicitly discussing the IEC prefixes; or
in articles in which both types of prefix are used with neither clearly primary, or in which converting all quantities to one or the other type would be misleading or lose necessary precision, or declaring the actual meaning of a unit on each use would be impractical."

@Daniel Case: I've been toggling the wifi off on my phone to edit a page. My router IP (above) is still blocked. Seasider53 (talk) 11:05, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
In that case I direct you to WP:IPECPROXY where there's directions on how to request IP block exemption through email to the checkusers' list. Yes, I could give it to you myself but ... a) I'm not familiar enough with you as an editor to feel comfortable doing that, and b) the recent block history, even if the last one was by an admin who spectacularly imploded and banned themselves later, would also make it hard to defend if I were asked to. Daniel Case (talk) 16:32, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
This isn't what the pop-up says to do when I try to edit. I might as well just wait for the auto-expire now. (The other block I received was from an admin who lost his privileges shortly thereafter, but I digress. My block was not undeserved.) Seasider53 (talk) 16:44, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Butler School (Portland, Maine)

Hi Seasider, I recently created Butler School (Portland, Maine). It is a very interesting old schoolhouse in the West End of Portland. Since I noticed that you sometimes take pictures of buildings and infrastructure, I think you may be interested in photographing the building for Wikipedia. Thanks for your contributions to Maine history and Happy New Year!--User:Namiba 16:01, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Your article on Woodfords Corner inspired me to start Draft:Woodfords Congregational Church. If you feel so inclined, I'd appreciate help expanding the draft. Thanks!--User:Namiba 19:46, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
You may be interested in Cumberland Club. Thanks for uploading the photo!--User:Namiba 19:04, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Jimmy Carr text removed

Hi. I added some text to JC's page, cited and with links, and you removed it pretty much immediately. I've not made many edits so am not massively familiar with the site - but I've written for websites professionally for a couple of decades so am slightly bemused. Could you enlighten me please? Thx. Hi Seasider53,
These don't really appear to be compatible with the restrictions on when rollback can be used and the policy against edit warring:
[8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13]
So please don't.
Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:24, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Roger that. Thanks for the clarification. Seasider53 (talk) 20:48, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you and no worries. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:23, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

Re Dunans Castle; Needs attention in my view.

Owners in hat note? Seems like self promotion to me. Already in the Info Box. Also promoting own dubious web site selling hereditary titles? 2A00:23C6:CE0F:6D01:B822:45EF:F13E:14A1 (talk) 16:33, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

What is it promoting? It isn’t a hotel. Their ownership is referenced in the list of owners too. Seasider53 (talk) 16:35, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
Scottish Laird fundraiser. There was a comment about it a way back in 2008 on talk page. 2A00:23C6:CE0F:6D01:B822:45EF:F13E:14A1 (talk) 16:38, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
I removed the promotional URL. The ownership being mentioned in the lede (not a hatnote) isn’t problematic. Seasider53 (talk) 16:38, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
