There's a lot of names, a lot of Reverends but a lot of them in the book don't really assert notability, they'd need other sources to try to compile something. But worth a browse all the same. The Shrewsbury article deals with Welsh cloth and is closely linked to Wales, the Wales link was good enough for me, though as you say, based in England.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:27, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Tenuous. But not as much as the fact someone is currently winning the competition by writing articles, that they added themselves to the 'core articles' list, about ships with the "Welsh" names Nottingham, Essex, Cornwall and Cordelia. Listed buildings

Hi, I was wondering if you could help red link the buildings in the county lists of Grade II* listed buildings in Wales. A good chance of a fair few being started over the weekend. Later in the month or next time we'll have more started too. I think we should have articles on all Grade II* listed buildings. Deleted page

Hi Sionk, a page that I contributed to (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNC_Clef_Hangers) was recently merged into the parent university's page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_North_Carolina_at_Chapel_Hill#Organizations_and_activities). The request to delete the page was quickly turned into a vote by 3 people, which then settled on merging the article, which it looks like you did yesterday. This whole process took about a week, and didn't give time for sufficient input to keep the pages separate. I'm happy to make the case to unmerge/undelete the UNC Clef Hangers page, but I'm not familiar with the process to do so. You should probably try Wikipedia:Deletion review and make your argument there. Articles for Deletion isn't a vote, by the way. The closing administrator will base their decision on the arguments presented. To be honest, I'm surprised you weren't notified of the deletion discussion, because it looks like you were the original author of the article. But otherwise, all the arguments agreed that there wasn't enough evidence of independent notability of the group. Personally I think the decision was sensible, there's no evidence the Clef Hangers gave been noticed outside of their own university. Sionk (talk) 20:19, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Sionk is there a way to get the version of the deleted UNC Clef Hangers page before it was removed? Many of us used that page to track past events, discography, and awards, but I can't seem to find it anywhere now that it has been removed. On cy-wiki every school is notable; and it's about time that became the norm on en-wiki articles related to Wales. No. It's time for everything related to Wales to have its own set of criteria; we are not sheep. enwiki articles related to Wales should rethink their notablability or just copy cywiki: all schools are notable, all authors are notable, all Welsh albums are notable. Emboldening listed buildings

Why are you emboldening entries not on the core list? It's going to make it very difficult to accurately tot up the total core articles tackled now if you're now emboldening any listed building started. That's the missing article list. The core list is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Core articles. I have no problems with identifying Grade I/II* listed buildings started, but I just wanted a way to distinguish between those and the ones on the core list so they can be counted. Have no idea what you mean by "I've completely lost the purpose of this project", the purpose of it has been very clear on it from the start and core articles continue to be improved, and the results have been amazing. It's as clear now as ever. If you don't want to be part of something which is the best thing to happen to the Wales project on wikipedia because of a minor disagreement with highlighting that's up to you. I've been testing out a few things with this, once we find the optimum mechanism on this nothing will be changed. Sorry you feel so critical of this, but running it is far from easy, and I've put a great deal of my own time and energy into this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:18, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

I've actively participated since February. I spent many hours creating the missing photos hotlist, for example. If you find the purpose, rules and direction clear then I certainly don't. I guess a project based on an entire nation has such a broad ambit it gets in danger of becoming confusing, everything to everybody, or unmanageable. It's not a major issue that I'm not taking any further part, because we're 23 days into a 30 day project. Nice to see a large number of genuinely useful, quality articles being created. Well, there's a danger, but this initial contest was always about trying different things to see what works and what doesn't. I've been trying to cram into it a variety of different goals just for testing things. If we get support for another one the likelihood is that it will be a shorter one, no longer than two weeks, have a narrow focus and no complex bonus point systems, and prizes spread out in smaller amounts for targetting the most articles. So everything would be very straightforward. I need to run this to try things and am in a much better position now to be able to run something to produce the optimum results and avoid that danger. There was a reason why I didn't revert you or mention the bolding earlier, and sadly it seems my perception of you was right. When I disputed the scoring with the photographs you were quick to criticise my own scoring system for the others. With this, you did the same thing again, this time with a sarcastic comment about complex scoring, which you quickly removed. I can't see this ever being a productive relationship if you can't take alternative suggestions or deal with differences of opinion. Wherever the alleged 'sarcastic' comment you mention was made, if it was quickly removed then where is the issue? I don't go looking to pick fights, but if somebody responds aggressively when anybody even slightly questions anything they do I notice. From my perspective it's also a shame when people retaliate with a sarcastic comment/insult when somebody disagrees with their point of view. Wikipedia's guidelines prohibit lists of living people that are unsourced (WP:LISTPEOPLE). Please save that sort of information for elsewhere, for example the group's own website. Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge

Hi there. I've started a new initiative, the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. It's a long term goal to bring about 10,000 article improvements to the UK and Ireland. Through two contests involving just six or seven weeks of editing so far we've produced over 1500 improvements. Long term if we have more people chipping it and adding articles they've edited independently as well from all areas of the UK then reaching that target is all possible. Those sub-articles were a result of a Wikimedia project sponsored by the Wales Tourist Board, several of them aren't recognised paths in their own right so it's dubious whether the articles should even exist. Adding the legionary fortresses to ancient roman forts

The legionary fortresses and others of the Roman military fortifications are meant to replace ancient roman forts as they are more specific, and the ancient roman forts are being discussed for deletion. California Water Plan Article

Hello Sionk,

Thank you so much for reviewing and creating my article, California Water Plan, and linking it to the Water in California article. I will embed links in the titles of the volumes of the California Water Plan Update 2013, rather than link to the volumes via end references. I really should have thought of this before. I believe that will eliminate the use of all primary sources/end references, except perhaps one (I need to check that), as I do for a number of terms and proper names that appear in the article. When I have done that, I will proceed with removal of the template message.

I do have a question about the photos I had uploaded and laid out within the article. When I uploaded them, I could not find what I considered the proper tag for them. By word of John Dunnigan, a career attorney with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), all photos that I included are in the public domain. I added a comment to that effect with each uploaded photo. They were taken by photographers employed by DWR, which is a State of California agency. So they are not copyrighted or owned. I thought those notes might make that clear. I even included Mr. Dunnigan's contact information at DWR, which he invited me to do. I would greatly appreciate any counsel you might be able to offer, with regard to how I can clarify for Wikipedia editors that the photos are not owned or copyrighted. They are available for use by the public, and they cannot be copyrighted by anyone.

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Gebler Tooth

you deleted the Reference from Newsweek for Gebler Tooth page. You said there was no reference to Sasha or Carlo Gebler in the Article. Yet there are TWO QUITE LARGE PHOTOGRAPHS of Sasha Gebler in that Newsweek article, and Edna O'Brien also refers to her children in it. Thanks ~~

Well, exactly, saying O'Brien has two children doed not prove the two childrens' names are Sasha and Carlo. In contrast, the "Country Matters" Guardian article clearly states the relationships, so the Newsweek article becomes even more unnecessary.

I was interested to see a new Wikipedia article about an architecture firm. However, if it largely relies on mentions of one of the partners because of his famous mother, or uses little more than brief mentions, or company website sources, it probably indicates the company isn't too notable (despite being around for several decades). I'm hoping you know of some decent news/magazine sources about the company, before someone decides WP:GNG isn't met. Sionk (talk) 20:26, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

In actual fact the first Newsweek article photograph is captioned: "O'BRIEN WALKING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT WITH HER SON SASHA GEBLER". Surely I don't need to point that out to you?

Might I also refer you to citations I've found from Architects Journal, and other solid sources, which I continue to build upon. Yesterday, the Cambridge University Library furnished me with a list of older articles on Gebler Tooth's work, from sources such as THE SUNDAY TIMES, the GUARDIAN and the Times (daily), Architects Journal, Building Design and Design Week. Two of the writers - Marcus Binney and Maev Kennedy - are quite well respected writers. Some of these old articles are not easily traceable online, which makes it harder to link the citations into the Wiki article. Perhaps you've come across this issue in the past, with pre-digital age citations? Does pre-digital automatically mean the source doesn't exist or that I'm a liar, or the subject is not notable? I would hope not. It simply means it takes longer to provide citations that I thought would be easy to trace.

I'd rather not mention Edna O'Brien at all. But, despite the fact that GTA employs 50 people full time, who have collectively completed a large body of high profile projects including several for the British Olympic Association 2012 and BAA and etc, they seem to have been too busy to send out their news to the press or to do interviews. I will take the O'Brien links out, including the Guardian article, as soon as I get the online links to the articles provided by Cambridge. BTW, if anybody imagines one can employ 50 architects year in year out on the basis of having a famous mother, they really need their heads examined. I'm simply trying to write a good article on a successful and notable architectural practice. Please don't try to stop me just because you personally don't rate these architects. Thanks ~~

Well, I suppose for now it helps understand the subject, being an image of a magazine article that isn't available online. It describes Gebler Tooth as 'management architects', for example, which hardly suggests they played a lot in the creative process. Sionk (talk) 20:10, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Sionk,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

I understand that product features can sound like advertising, but Its really confusing that some information cannot be there, for an example: integrations are important information for a resource like this. As I'm sure you know, the article has already been deleted from Wikipedia recently. The independent reliable news coverage isn't strong at all. I agree, the Lucidchart article is not great, but at least the product has been more widely reviewed. Design With Memory Article Help

Hello Sion, I see that you reviewed the draft article we submitted on the Design with Memory sustainable design strategies. Perhaps this type of subject is difficult for Wikipedia? These design strategies were used as a teaching tool to challenge professional and student industrial designers to create economically viable sustainable product design and architecture. Our goal with the article is simply to make those design strategies generally available. It was a part of the last two rounds of the International Design Resource Awards program, so sorry if that was confusing. Those last two rounds, the 5th and 6th, were sponsored primarily by the government of Japan as an economic development initiative. I am retired now, and there is no advertising or commercial benefit to either this information, or to the archive site of the Design Competition. They are just information. And I would say that it is very important and relevant information, as education on this subject is literally critical for the health and well-fare of everyone. The notability of the program is verified I think by the quality of the funders and the exhibits and coverage in the design magazines. Also the entries are in books on sustainable design, so I am at a loss as to what more we can do?? There were more than 1,000 entries from 23 different countries. Also, the quality of the jurors was very high. Would it help you to speak to some of the jurors to verify the usefulness and importance of the Design with Memory teaching paths? I can suggest one there in the UK associated with Kingston University, and two here in the US who you can easily contact and talk with if that would help. Also, I am very happy to hear any suggestions you may have on how the article can be cleaned up and re-written if necessary. I have never tried anything like this before. Bridges in Wales

Hi - I believe you may have created the 'Bridges in Wales' page? A worthwhile addition, perhaps, would be 'Lady Mitford's Bridge', which crosses the Wye near to Llanstephan and is a single track, single span, suspension bridge - I was diverted over it after an accident on the A470 many years ago and only found it again recently via Google Earth. Hi Sionk

Thank you for taking the time to review my article on Patrick Whelan, Irish Volunteer. However, I really must take issue with your points on notability.

The guidelines I was going by were WP:ANYBIO rather than WP:SOLDIER as I think those involved in the Easter Rising aren't best judged by the standards of a military career.

Where I believe that Patrick Whelan meets the notability guidelines under WP:ANYBIO are as follows:

1) The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor:

Patrick Whelan received the 1916 Medal posthumously. Only those killed in action had their names inscribed on these medals.

Whelan House, which was named after Patrick Whelan, was erected and named at the same time as O'Rahily House next door to it. Given how important O'Rahily was to 1916, to have Whelan House contemporaneously named must be noted. Also the fact that this happened some 20 years after 1916.

As a Volunteer, Patrick is honoured annually at State Masses and all State Events pertaining to the Rising, in recognition of his contribution and sacrifice in helping to build the foundation of the Irish State. His name formed part of the logo used for the centenary events of 2016.

2) The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field:

The Easter Rising may have only lasted 6 days, but this seminal event in Irish history led to the founding of the Republic of Ireland. Patrick played his part in this significant historical event and gave his life for his country, which is a matter of note.

3) The person has an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography or similar publication:

Notable omissions of the Dictionary of Irish Biography have not gone unnoticed, so Patrick Whelan's absence from it is no surprise. Also there is a precedent for articles of notable deaths during 1916 and the preceding/proceeding years, such as Alice Brady (labour activist), Thomas Allen (Irish Volunteer), Charles Carrigan, Edward Costello, Joe Howley, and Larry Lardner.

The following sources were used as independent reliable sources for the article, with Patrick Whelan named in each publication:

• Bateson, Ray (They Died by Pearse's Side). Patrick Whelan is mentioned specifically on the back of the dust jacket.

• Bunbury, Turtle (Dublin Dockland - An Urban Voyage).

• Connell Jnr., Joseph E.A. (Who's Who in the Dublin Rising 1916)

• In addition, reference was made to the Military Archives, where Patrick's name appears on the Roll of Honour. These Archives hold the Witness Statement of the Captain of the 3rd Battalion, Joseph O'Byrne, who was standing beside Patrick when he was shot dead.

While the histories of the major figures of the Rising are well documented, Irish people are interested in the more personal stories of its participants too. Although you may not consider there to be a strong enough emphasis on Patrick from the sources listed above, it's important in this centenary year that all stories be told, so that the little pictures can help to create a bigger one and also a broader context for the event of the Easter Rising.

I was very disappointed to have missed the writing contest on Wikipedia this year, where I believe that the Patrick Whelan, Irish Volunteer article would have been of interest in the category People and Places of 1916. Could you please reconsider my submission bearing WP:ANYBIO in mind Sionk?

I left feedback on your draft. It's debateable (well in fact not debateable at all) whethere everyone who is killed in a battle is notable enough for a Wikipedia write-up. Not everyone killed in battle gets a building named after them. The fact that Patrick Whelan did makes him a figure of note in Dublin, particularly as Whelan House is built next door to O'Rahilly House. The O'Rahilly was a key figure of the Easter Rising. Its difficult to be 'widely known' or indeed known at all if your story can't be told. If you check back through her contributions, she's been very open about her identity, though she goes by several variations on her name. See Jennifer Caron Hall. The article was recreated only a few weeks after being deleted at the Articles for Deletion discussion. As such it could have been speedy deleted, but I thought I'd simply add the 'notability' template to allow you more time to improve it. The article hasn't really been improved much, though it has benefited from the El Pais blog and the Artshake article, which appear to have some independence and journalistic quality. If you are being emailed (as I was) by the subject, you really need to interrogate the sources/'further reading' a bit better (the further reading articles I found online were simply name-checks of Passa). However, because of the couple of reliable sources I won't add the 'notability' template back, if you removed it. I'm not sure I can see any signs of improvement. The article is still rather a bloated CV, with little evidence at all of any in-depth, reliable, independent news/book coverage about Jamieson. The length has grown, but not the quality. It suffers from many of the same problems (and format) as the Chiara Passa article, which was deleted from Wikipedia not long ago and is living on borrowed time. Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings in Monmouthshire

Yes, it's a mammoth project and some of the buildings were on my radar during the Awaken the Dragon event last year. Looks like you're ably filling in some gaps. For the WikiProject Architecture they rate "interesting buildings" as mid importance and "Very important" buildings as high importance, so certainly anything above Grade II listed will be 'mid' importance if not more. Hi IP 42, I'm not sure the problem is unreliable citations, it is more that the reliable citations are used in the wrong way. For example it isn't a great idea to pack the lean introduction with citations - after all, the introduction is meant to be a summary of the main body of the article. Neither am I a fan at all of plucking words such as 'pioneer', 'social innovator', 'foremost award-winning architect' (etc.) from news articles - what we really need to know is what someone pioneered and what awards they won ...which should make their achievements self evident!

I can turn a blind eye to the over-use of citations elsewhere. It is also acceptable to use WP:PRIMARY sources to verify basic uncontroversial facts. After all, Wikipedia is male dominated and generally biased against non-American/non-Western topics, so sometimes proof is needed beyond doubt to show something/someone has a strong claim to be in Wikipedia.

I don't have a lot of spare time at the moment, but if you want advice on a specific thing, maybe raise it on the article's Talk page. Sionk (talk) 05:12, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Sanjay Gupta Page

It looks like this page should be rolled back, the contributions to this page seemed to be from Sanjay Gupta himself and he sourced it from his own websites. The contributor was blocked indefinitely for that usage. Strongly do not feel user is of any notability.

What's not there on the page is that he's also a conman and has been arrested multiple times over for cheating innocent people by not paying money borrowed from people.

I am not going to get into an edit-war on this. It is very simple. It is a list. I am not disputing your comments that some of the entries may be notable. If so, they need their own article. That is where the references go. As it says in the edit notice, entries need their own articles. The list is for easy of navigation to the articles. So please remove the entries with no articles or I will do it. If you do not agree, please start a discussion at the article's Talk Page, or if you prefer, at AN. Entries with no articles will be removed. Well, it sounds like you are planning to have an edit war about this. I don't need a lecture either, thanks. The inclusion criteria of the list is that the entries need to be notable Irish artists. Someone has gone to the trouble of finding sources to prove that the redlinked artists meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. You are being pigheaded and unconstructive if you undo that hardwork. There are many notable people and subjects that do not yet have a Wikipedia article, the encyclopedia is work-in-progress. List of Irish artists isn't a list of redlink spam, which WP:WTAF warns against. If you are the person that has issues with this, you can of course write the articles.
