Hi

[edit]

I just now found out that certain images (Marcos, Marcos2, Marco1 )have been tagged for deletion by you, from the discussion page. I would like to inform you that those images are genuine. Regarding copyrights, I would like to tell that those were taken by me & and another of my collegue and subsequently ,we sold the undeveloped the reel to the person, who has uploaded it.So, I think there should be no dispute regarding ownership of the images. The contributer (ultrastealth ) is free to upload the above mentioned images. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sindhusastra (talkcontribs) 04:49, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ziggee Images

[edit]

What is you problem with the picures uploaded by Ziggee? The intent of the photographer is obviously to make them free. This user only logs on infrequently to upload and may not have read your notification and it would be a shame to lose them because of some minor technicality that you have observed. Have you visited his web site? Would it be possible to constructively fix whatever the problem is, rather than delete them? -Lastcent (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:02, 1 April 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Talkback

Hello, Skier Dude. You have new messages at Dank55's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

More information - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 18:29, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier Dude,

I've added some notability and external references to this article, which I trust you will agree makes it possible to remove the deletion request. I'm not sure what you mean by verging on spam, but if you consider that is still an issue, please let me know. As I have said on the talk page, the charity onnly came formally into existance today, so there will be more information added over the next few days. regards, Lynbarn (talk) 19:06, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks- Any orphaned images of the Vega wont be used in the article. I had planned to make a subsection of Vega ads under an advertising subsection as they're colorful and interesting but now I realize non-free media should be kept to a minimum. Thanks (VegavairbobVegavairbob (talk))

Infobox Germany

[edit]

Hi Skier. Thanks for nuking those angolan templates. I another request. I;ve developed Template:Infobox German location/sandbox as an updated layout for Template:Infobox German location basically rendering the map a better size in relation to the coat of arms. One of the editors User:Stifle who operates this infbox informed me that he is very pleased with the changes I've made and said if there is no objection he will update it in a few days. However it turns out the guy is now on holiday. There has been no objection on the infobox talk page to the change so can you paste Template:Infobox German location/sandbox into Template:Infobox German location for me? Thanks for uploading File:Biopic.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

Changes to Infobox German location template.

[edit]

The infobox now looks dreadful. Will you please change it back? No, there have been no objections on the template talk page, but how many people actually knew that there was supposed to be a debate? There is really no consensus for this change. Kelisi (talk) 09:19, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that WP:Germany were notified before. No it doesn't look dreadful virtually every inofbox on settlements on wikipedia is rendered exactly the same way Yangon etc. Are you telling me that everybody else is wrong and that they all look awful?. Having a map the same size as a coat of arms looks dreadul. Pushpin maps are not supposed to be rendered as small as 100px. Funny how nobody showed a concern before and when the change is made people start fussing. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:17, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier. Seems the main concern was the size of the map and the captions. It just needs to be tweaked so those concerns about the map size and shape of the box can be contended with the change. Markussep has made the change in the sandbox, which I also agree with. Such is the shape of the German map it would be best at around 180px not 220, but one things for certain a 180px map is a huge improvement from a pretty useless 100px one! So at present replacing it with the current version Template:Infobox German location/sandbox would seem a further improvement on the current and should settle some of the main issues. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:10, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, thanks. Change often causes some people to comment so I guess it is expected. Rarely though do people say thanks! Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:18, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you deleting my messages? Linguistixuck (talk) 14:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the links that were previously attached to this article, I showed you my appearance on two nationally televisied programs (each which lasted for over three months and one ongoing). Four interviews in other programs, and 11 commercials. I am not citing a wikipedia because of my commercials, I am requesting a Wikipedia because I have searched for similar latin TV personalities like myself in your files and they DO appear and they have roughly the same exposure. Perhaps they didn't run in someone who was "policing" with such harshness.
If it takes someone else to write the entry about myself, then I'm sure it will happen eventually. However it will state the same things I am stating and it'll have similar sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Augustovalverde (talkcontribs) 15:25, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Qualifications...

[edit]

I updated my entry of Augusto Valverde. I have submitted multiple videos proving that I work as a Television Host on a NATIONAL PROGRAM. What else would you like me to do that I deserve a wikipedia entry? I do not care if you do not watch the shows, according to Wikipedia that qualifies me and I belive it is unfair that you delete the entry. I adapted it to remove the "blatant advertising" and I simply stated briefly my career and place of birth. Why do you delete that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.211.228.145 (talk) 23:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Articles only exist on individuals who are notable. That means that the person has received significant coverage from reliable sources, or that he meets one of the following criteria. In the absence of reliable sources, television personalities are generally only considered notable if they have had lead roles in multiple television programs. Commercials don't count for anything, unless they have generated the same significant coverage described above. You're also strongly discouraged from writing about yourself. Inappropriate Orphaned Fair-Use Image Message

[edit]

This concerns Image:Irina Roublon ArmsLogo.jpg. As is manifestly apparent from the history, this is an inaccurate statement of the case -- or more specifically, the way in which the statement is accurate is inconsequential. Please do not leave such messages.

User:718 Bot has failed to perform the entire suite of activity required when working with fair-use images. That action should have resulted in a bother-free replacement of .png for .jpg.

Beyond the aspects I've covered at User:east718 there's a fault in WP media handling of fair-use images in considering the .png to be different from the .jpg. Conceptually, the (dubious) replacement that 718_Bot undertakes is the equivalent of WP requiring that uploads of .jpg be (auto-) converted to .png. Importantly: With respect to fair use images, they must be substantively identical. In the practical sense -- as file formats and file names don't matter for the fair-use case -- they are one-and-the-same image.

Given this latter point (concerning the important distinction of fair use), no, there is no fair-use image orphan -- the fair-use image has been improperly cloned into a replacement or alias file format. That cloning, if it is a valid WP-space operation at all, should have silently made the entire replacement. Apart from a notation about the replacement operation, the .png would stand as if it were the image originally uploaded (again, because it is, must be, that image). This is what's important about this case.

The appropriate action consistent with a representative history of the handling of a fair-use image is the complete reversal of the 718_Bot action, and the correct re-application (if the conversion is at all necessary). — Dushenka (talk) 08:40, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"04:51, 9 April 2009 Skier Dude deleted "File:Amine - My Girl single cover.jpg" ‎ (F1: Redundant copy of non-Commons file in the same file format: File:0094636511955.jpg)"
No, it's not. The latter is a redirect left over when I moved the file. From what I can tell it isn't and never was at commons, and it's a fair use image so unless I'm missing a free-license release even if it were at commons, it should be deleted there.
What am I missing?

You also deleted File:"Leave..." CD cover.jpg as a WP:CSD#R3. It too was moved from that location, so it shouldn't be considered a "recently created redirect".

I'm guessing I'd find a lot more of those in your deletions from the last couple hours. What's going on? Some incorrect database report or script you're using? Amalthea 06:58, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it was a bad script that showed redirected images as unused non-free images - and was showing the redirect as the duplicate. I caught it after the 4th or 5th, and if you look at my edit history, I reverted myself on all of the notes to the users on the ORFUD, and made sure that the images (not the redirects) were reinstated into the appropriate articles. Was a royal pain after I realized I got them backwards :( - but I think that the net sum is a couple of redirects were deleted and the images were all restored - so no harm done, just a big waste of my time and a learning curve in trusting scripts to catch these things :) Skier Dude (talk) 09:17, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. So you checked all those redirects? I noticed one other image flicker up on my talk page where you reverted your orfud tag and fixed the link in the article. --Amalthea 09:31, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep - a couple other editors caught them while I was working on fixin them, but as far as I can tell I caught all of them. Skier Dude (talk) 09:35, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About: Orphaned non-free image (Image:Penguin Paperback 1977 PatrickWhite AFringeofLeaves.jpg)

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude,
The interim paperback image has been replaced with a image of hardback first edition. In my opinion, it is unlikely that the paperback image may be put any use per WP:NFC now or in future. I would ask you to delete the image, as it has lost any non-free use rationale. Deletion is, of course, your call. Or to put another way,

Police Dispatcher: Use of unnecessary violence in the deletion of Image:Penguin_Paperback_1977_PatrickWhite_AFringeofLeaves.jpg HAS been approved.

USSR exit visa

[edit]

Hello!

You have deleted USSR exit visa image that I have posted. I do not know much about copyright. This image illustrates that one who wanted to leave the USSR had not only to get entry visa from the country he want to enter, but also exit visa from the USSR. This visa was granted not to all who wanted to leave the USSR. So I think this visa must be in the article Visa (and maybe Jackson-Vanik_amendment). Probably I had filled in copyright questions in the wrong way. I have asked for help on the forum, but nobody knows, how to fill in them. It seems that you knows a lot about copyright. Image question

[edit]

Skier Dude, I'm wondering if you can give me some very quick input on an image concern. File:KarenMok HKfestival2009.jpg was recently uploaded by an editor who claims s/he took the photo. In the past, this editor has uploaded other people's photos and claimed them as his own, so I just want to be cautious. In this case, the file page does have extensive camera metadata, so I am more willing to assume that the uploaded really did take it...is the camera metadata enough, or is there also a good way to search the internet and stuff to verify that the image isn't sitting around somewhere else? (I'm asking you because I know you do a lot of work at FFD and I was thinking maybe you know about how to deal with photographs like this.) Thanks, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 14:57, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, in case you're confused about this image's relationship with File:Karen perfume launch.jpeg... the uploader said at my talk page (User talk:Rjanag#Karen Mok picture) that he had uploaded the latter picture first and accidentally labeled it wrong, which is why there are two copies of this picture with different claims about where it came from. The metadata on the HKfestival picture confirms that it's more recent, I'm just still not sure if it is the uploader's own work. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 15:35, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into that. While I don't really trust this editor, I can't find any evidence that he copied the image from somewhere, so I guess I'll AGF it for the time being. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 16:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism potential libel page

[edit]

Hi Skier. For some time we've been having a lot of trouble with the article Bollywood and plagiarism. It was agreed betwene the project a while ago that the page is very problematic as it lists films seemingly at random and accuses them all of being copies and plagiarised from other films which is a serious issue so we redirected. User:Pepe962 however who is a sock of countless other editors has some personal vendetta, please read his user page that there is "rampant plagiarism" at work and has some clearly unencyclopedic agenda to identify all the film he perceives as being plagiarised without references. There is a decent paragraph on it in the main Bollywood article which the plagiarism accusing articles currently redirects to. However this troublesome editor perists on restoring his unencyclopedic and potentially libellous list of accused films. He has a long history of restoring these lists as an IP Maybe some of them ar eplagiarised but it is certianly not wikipedias place to identify it in frame of thinking that he has, as if its some watchdog policing site. He thinks that by keeping the page it will warn Hindi film directors not to copy ideas, as you can see this is totally wrong, wikipedia is an encyclopedia and the article which is precisely there for his reason should have gone long ago. The best thing is to delete this page to avoid restoration, can you delete it and perahps put a lock on it to stop him recreating the page once deleted? There is already an adequate summary on the main Bollywood page of it. Can you nuke the redirect to stop him restoring it? Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:48, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my comment in Bollywood discussion. It is clear that Dr.Blofeld is the one with the hidden agenda as he is intent on removing the Bollywood and Plagiarism page. Pepe962 (talk) 12:00, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Pepe962[reply]

Oh yes of course. I live thousands of miles away in a place in the UK where Bollywood films are unheard of and my sole aim in life is to serve as the Godfather of Bollywood and protect the flocks of thieving directors from accusations. LMAO. And this is coming from the guy who lists exposing directors who plagiarise as his sole aim on wikipedia on his user page. What a joke. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:27, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the Bollywood and plagiarism page had been around for several years. It was compiled meticulously with the collaboration of several users. Deleting this entire page is against the core principles of wikipedia and the internet itself, which is to keep information free and open. Is it libellous to accuse a thief of stealing? Pepe962 (talk) 17:28, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Skier, I think it is unfair that you deleted the page first before having a discussion on the issue. Since it was you who have taken this decision without any consensus, I thought it was appropriate for wiki users to take up this issue with you.

Anyway..I have newly added a detailed rebuttal of each of the arguments made by Dr Blofeld and Shahid in the Bollywood discussion page. Please have a look. I hope it will change your mind. Pepe962 (talk) 09:53, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More on Bollywood (groan groan)

[edit]

If you are up for reading the pointless discussion at Talk:Bollywood go for it if not by all means don't LOL. I think the case for exactly why the page was locked is pretty clear (and always was) but our good friend Pepe seems to think it likely you will self-revert your changes. As it stands the plagiarism section in the main article I have improved further with a good balanced overview of the topic in prose using reliable sources (something alien to our friend), seemingly making his list even more redundant and the solid redirects more appropriate. Take care. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:56, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm Pepe's final attempt to promote the cause of Bollywood copyism. Can you believe that somebody in their leisure time actually is intent on this? The hilarious thing is that this guy has written an essay on his user page as if there is likely an army of people who care about his fetish to be recruited and march on the way to righteousness and expose those Bollywood nasties for Mother India. LOL Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:24, 15 April 2009 (UTC) Wow what a sad case if thats all he is here for. I'm sure you are thinking exactly the same. At least that solves the future hassles. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:22, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wowo 500,000? Thats scary!! If you include your main account edits too thats like 650,000? Excellent! Yeah some people really have the weirdest goals on here. Another nuisance I can think of who users like Darwinek, myself and well justy about evrybody can't stand is a guy wo spends all his time on here fussing about sort keys and worrying about foreign lettering in indexing. I remember I started a batch of articles on towns in SLovakia and he yelled his head off at me because one or two were not in the order he would have liked in the category and how anybody using the categories would leave wikipedia because of the disgrace. So weird. One wonders how these people are spawned LOL. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:33, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I could have sworn that Pepe was a sock puppet of User:Martineejames and countless other banned puppets. Maybe I was wrong.. but I could have sworn that he also had the exact same obsession with plagiarism, seems too cooincidental.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:43, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah its not the best for sure. I'd much rather watch football than cricket though. I'm more into watersports myself and probably winter sports like skiiing (like your good self) and snowboarding (if I lived in a snowy area!). Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:06, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged File:Girl Guides Association of Jamaica Golden Jubilee 1965.jpg as unused. It was renamed by a bot during the short period when file renaming was enabled, but the bot did not update the link in the article. If you check at the bottom of the page, you will see that File:Jamaicagirlgb.jpg redirects to this image. --Gadget850 (talk) 21:12, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Undelete Request File:John-Serry-Sr.gif

[edit]

Dear Administrator Slier Dude: Just a quick note regarding your editing of this file. Kindly note that the photograph was not released as part of a promotional kit by the manufacturer for commercial purposes and was used purely for educational purposes by the musician in question for his students. I have noted this in the description of the photo and removed the promotional tag and replaced it with the original undelete tag. I hope that this is permitted--I am an inexperienced contributer so kindly excuse my action if it is improper. Kindly note that I do not posses another photo which would be suitable to upload for an encyclopedia article as suggested by User:Damiens.rf. Perhaps a general copyright tag which protects the trademark and logo of the manufacturer might be appropriate if you wish to use this photo. Thanks for your help. I hope that the photo can be salvaged for the benefit of future students of the instrument. Sincerely----Pjs012915 (talk) 21:36, 15 April 2009 (UTC)User:pjs012915Pjs012915 (talk) 21:29, 15 April 2009 (UTC)User:pjs012915[reply]

Dear Administrator Slier Dude: Thank you once again for your kind and thoughtful editing of this photograph. I appreciate your thoughtful use of a general copyright tag for the photograph and wish to thank you for your prompt attention in this regard! I am certain that students of future generations will benefit from your efforts to preserve this photograph for use in their studies. Thank you once again for your very kind and thoughtful consideration and best wishes for the future. Regards:--Pjs012915 (talk) 19:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)User:pjs012915[reply]

unwarranted deletion

[edit]

i noticed that you were the responsible party for deleting the wiki for DeVern Fromke. i take issue with this because a) i came across his name in researching a widely circulated email and wanted to know more about him. what better source than wikipedia? your deletion inhibited my research and lessened the value of wikipedia, b) your reason for deleting that page is flawed in that he is evidently an author of several published books and public speaker. how exactly is that not noteworthy? c) in my opinion, someone should have a damn good reason for deleting someone else's work. someone took the time to compile that page and i find it incredible that someone else can come along and undo all the effort that went into it. please re-evaluate your decision.

Hello, why did you delete File:Hard Kaur.jpg despite my request on the talk page to hold on till I get the permission? And why didn't you inform me that you are going to delete it? I have got the permission and will be mailing "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org". Pls undelete so that I don't have to upload it again, and I can tag it with OTRS pending. Jay (talk) 03:06, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I see that the OTRS ticket has already been added. I was not aware of the extension of dates that happened. Was this mentioned on the talk page? Pls restore the talk page as well. Jay (talk) 09:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Photo

[edit]

Greeting, Skier Dude. You added and I deleted a deletion tag on this image. Why did you add a tag in the first place? The license is on http://www.w3.org/2006/05/alan-photo as the file says and I replied to you (already archived). -SusanLesch (talk) 21:04, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added a note that the license information is on that page. Does that help? It's hard to leave Wikipedia behind me because of this kind of thing springing up out of nowhere. -SusanLesch (talk) 22:00, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Thanks very much for your reply. Glad that's what happened. Maybe I ought to move this to the commons. Peace. -SusanLesch (talk) 16:25, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletions

[edit]

Hi there.

Noticed that you had a couple of images I uploaded deleted. Thought I'd give a bit of brackground...

The page I'm creating is on behalf of a friend of mine, a musician, who has charged me with building his Wikipedia page by way of extra online info about him. He passed me the text and pictures for use.

What is the correct licensing 'option' to use to ensure these don't get deleted again?

Many thanks,

Jon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spankybumchunks (talkcontribs) 16:34, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Acacia.jpg

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude!

I see that the image "Acacia.jpg" was deleted. I was away for the Easter holiday so I just got the message today. If you could bring back the page, I can add the information to the file (specifically, that the artist is over 100 years/dead) that puts this into free image status.

(Same with Indian Mount at Acadia.jpg)

Best regards! PR (talk) 19:53, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Problems with upload of File:Dance.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Dance.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Deletion of images superseded by SVGs

[edit]

Hi, Skier Dude. I've noticed that you've listed for deletion a bunch of images that have been superseded by SVGs. You need to be careful when doing this, though—if the images are licensed under the GFDL, then we must keep all revisions in order to preserve the "attribution path" as required by the license. I'm not sure whether the same is true about Creative Commons licenses. Hopefully, if bug 4421 is ever addressed, we will someday be able to merge all of the revisions into one image description page, but until then we have to have both "File:Whatever.jpg" and "File:Whatever.svg" separately.

I've gone through the first few of your nominations and indicated the instances in which we must keep the original image due to licensing issues. If I have some free time later I will try to go through the rest, but I'd appreciate it if I didn't have to do that. Frankly, I think we should keep all of them, even if the image has been released into the public domain (say) and we aren't legally required to preserve the revision history, because it isn't hurting anything to have them around, and if we are ever able to merge file histories across format boundaries in the future then we will have them all in a nice convenient category rather than having to do detective work to undelete old versions. —Bkell (talk) 08:12, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:Political Dweeb here wants to explain that I think I downloaded the 3rd Party of America's logo again to put it under the PNG type. This is because the logo you discussed in the message you sent to me showed on the description page of it that a little blue box with an explanation. From this box it explained that "A PNG version of this image is also available, and should be used in place of this image whenever possible." Maybe I did not spend more time looking back through the Way Back Machine system that would show the various forms of this party's website to see if there was a PNG version of this party's logo. However I think I downloaded it from the party's website of today and used what is called the "Paint" system to save it again under the "PNG" type and maybe I thought this PNG logo would replace the ["3rdParty-1.gif"] however it did not but I choose to use this PNG logo in place of the 3rdParty-1.gif. Please let me know if this is suitable and please respond to my message here or on my talk page, thank you.

Greetings Skier Dude. I've seen you at WP:FFD and other places, and I thought I'd let you know about a new project (combining several inactive projects and breathing new life into the amalgamation) at Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media. I hope this becomes a centralized location for discussion of image tags, Commons migration, deletion policy, and all other things media-related.
