Please delete EdwardVII-descendants.gif - EdwardVII-descedants.gif - GV-Descendants55.GIF - File:GV-Descendants.png - GV-List.png - they are obsolete and I believe I cannot remove them as an administrator is needed. Do not remove EdwardVII-desc85.gif - it is in use (and I note you did not contact me about that file anyway) - but when it becomes obsolete, how do I remove it; who should I notify? Orphaned non-free image (File:TheSuburbs3logo.jpg)[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:TheSuburbs3logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. feydey (talk) 22:11, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hal Becker photo[edit]

could you tell me why you removed the photo of Hal Becker? i got this photo from his website on a page that makes photos available to the Media. I am writing this Wikipedia page with Hal's permission and know he wouldn't mind me using the photo. What do I have to do to upload this photo to Wikipedia and not get it deleted? I would appreciate any guidance you could give me. I am new at Wikipedia. I tried to figure it out by reading some of the Wikipedia materal but I don't get it.

I restored this as the IP is trying to hide the face that xe is blocked and as I understand, there is no precedent for deleting pages while user is currently blocked. Plus I didn't see where xe did anything but remove templates? Let me know if I missed a good reason? Thanks StarM 22:02, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yeah that was me rusty with templates because the sock block template says it's indef, whereas I just blocked the IP for a week. Has had no effect on the main account changing habits so we'll see. Regarding the comments you left regarding the uploaded pictures

Both "wong yan lam" and "wong lam hoi" are public figures whose pictures have cirtulated around the globe since the late 1920's, ie they are public by now

Where the lama logo is concerned, it is MY SCHOOL LOGO, I own it, so I have every right to upload it and release it to the public

Hi, Why did you delete this page? It is currently redirecting to community informatics -- they are related but definitely two different fields, two distinct histories, etc. Want to hear your thinking but not sure where to look. I have no idea to what you are referring- the page Social informatics has not been deleted and is not redirecting to community informatics. Neither of these pages has ever been deleted. If you're referring to Community informatics at the ischools and library schools refer to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Community informatics at the ischools and library schools and the admin there that closed that discussion (which wasn't me). Non-free image of Ken Shamrock[edit]

Hi, I was wondering how this image measures up with the fair-use policies. I'm unsure if it's a grey area with regards to being "replaceable fair-use" (actually "already replaced fair-use" since we have a free image of him), or if the justification with him technically playing a character is good enough? If it is a grey-area, where is the best place to bring it up? Thanks, --aktsu (t / c) 06:18, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should maybe also link the image: File:Shamrock wwf bigger.jpg :P It's used in the pro-wrestling-section of his article. --aktsu (t / c) 06:19, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I must say F7 seems kinda useless since in most cases at least one person doesn't think the claim is invalid (the uploader), and seeing as it isn't actually very "speedy" at all one might as well go FFD which takes just as long and additionally creates a proper place to discuss. (Or am I missing something?) Guess it's nice to have available though... Cheers, --aktsu (t / c) 08:10, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yerevan highway picrure file[edit]

Hello, I recently got your message about the picture. The picture is from a Facebook page dedicated just to Yerevan its a group where people talk, post pictures, and chat about the capital. I've talked to the admin of the group, and he has told me that I can only use the picture if it's linked to a topic about Yerevan, so I'm sure an article about Armenia and its capital fits with the copyright holders rules. Thank you, again. By the way if it doesn't already show my username on wikipedia is Armenian King

Deletion of image file :Abstract-blue smoke.jpg[edit]

Am working on gas article and needed this image to help the reader visualize. The page you deleted was a practice upload. Thanks for your help as I would have transferred the image as my image insertion skills improved. When I went back to read the F3 comment, realized there may be some confusion with the license attached to this photo. I traded for the image prior to my unloading it on the page where you found it. I went back this evening to that website dreamstime.com, and discovered that this image was available as a free download. I have italicized their licensing information below. Please advise on how to proceed.

Royalty-Free License - Concept Info

What Royalty-Free means is that you pay for the image only once and then you can use it as many times as you like, with just a few restrictions. In other words, there are no license fees except the initial fee and no other royalties to be paid except those included in the initial cost. Note that the maximum number of copies for printed materials is 500,000 copies.

The Royalty-Free license is granted ONLY for the high-resolution, non-watermarked image (the one that is bought using the download button); all the other versions (small watermarked and non-watermarked thumbnails which are visible on the public site) are entirely copyrighted.

The free files downloaded from the Free Photos section may be used in commercial projects under our limited Royalty Free (RF-LL) license and according to our terms and conditions. This is a one-person license and is given to you as a designer, your employer (client) or any employed persons.

  • How should I annotate this situation so that I may use this image for the gas article?

There is absolutely no way this image can be copyrighted. If you go to the UCR website and search for the image you can see the entirety of the stereographic card. There is absolutely no copyright notice anywhere on the card. Because Keystone-Mast went out of business in 1963, and this image was definitively created by the company in question, there can be no question whatsoever that the image is free per {{PD-Pre1978}}. We don't observe blatantly false claims of copyright. I urge you to please undelete this image. There is no more information that needs to be obtained. Speedies for GL-117* screenshots[edit]

Skier Dude, I declined your speedies of the GL-117 screenshots appearing on the article I am incubating and reviewing (did you even place them properly? It seems your semi-automated inserts of the notices were not done properly? a bug?) and I could not find them anywhere listed on WP:IFD. Also, if you look at the talk page of the article, the images were up for deletion in 2007 and were kept. These are open-source software images so their licensing can be updates as such to be GPL, but I am not sure how to make the updates on the files, can you point me to the right place instead? I'll watch your talk page for a reply. Thanks! --Mokhov (talk) 17:48, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that these 3 images are currently licensed {{Non-free game screenshot}}, which means they're only usable in article space, not user space. Given your comments, it appears that they should be switched to {{Free screenshot|template=GPL}}. There's a couple of variations on the base license at Template:Free screenshot but it appears that "GPL" and not "BSD" would be the proper "template=" parameter. Skier Dude (talk) 23:47, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello:

I am the VP of Marketing for Winning Moves Games. EVERY image I upload belongs to Winning Moves Games. We shoot photos of all the product we develop. We use them on our website, our catalog, printed material. They belong to us and they are our property. My image of Go To The Head Of The Class has been deleted twice because someone on Wiki claims I don’t have permission to use it and that it appeared on Amazon so they removed it. This is not true. The image belongsto Winning Moves Games and I supplied the image to Amazon! They sell our products. I supply images of all our products to Amazon, Barnes And Noble and countless other retailers. We are a game designer.

More specifically, you copy right issues with many images on the CirKis page. Every one of of those images are property of Winning Moves. Our President, Phil Orbanes, handed me his sketch book and said here...scan these. You can use them on Wikipedia along with the essay I wrote on the creation of CirKis. Further, we translated it to appear on our German website at http://winningmoves.de/index.php?id=163.

I found this form on wikipedia.....I hereby affirm that Winning Moves Games is the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of EVERY image on http://www.winning-moves.com....we will sue any and all images from this site for pages on WikiPedia. I agree to publish these image under the free license TYPE OF LICENSE. I acknowledge that I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws. I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be attributed to me. I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

My name is Joe Sequino and I’m the Vice President of Marketing for Winning Moves. All of our images are placed on Wiki with my authority....they are our images...we own them. Please stop deleting them and please let me know if there’s anything more I need to do. THANK YOU!!

Helical Camshaft[edit]

Mr. Skier Dude, I have just noticed that the photos have disappeared from my "Helical Camshaft" article. I must say I thought that I had complied with the copyright rules - but maybe I didn't. The photos were all taken by me so there will be no problems with the copyright. Do I have to go back to the start of the whole image process and re-upload the photos, re-caption, re-copyright them etc. or is there a short cut? As an aside to the above matter, I have to say even though I find Wikipedia incredibly useful as a research tool (and I seriously think that it could actually change the course of the evolution of human thinking), some of the rules involved when writing an article with images etc. really are unbelievably complex. I don't think I am a notably dim person - but I have a lot of trouble with Wiki rules etc. I know qualified software engineers who think the same. For instance, there is literally page after page of rules about copyright alone - is this entirely necessary? Could the whole Wiki system be simplified? The complexity must discourage a lot of people who could make useful contributions to Wikipedia (In fact I know a few personally). Clivedog (talk) 11:26, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Dustbin of Milligan now linked to article.[edit]

Hello Skier Dude. I saw your comment re lack of linking of the A Dustbin of Milligan.jpg to an article. Thank you for your prompt.

I have now linked it to the article where I originally intended. I grew up with Milligan's humour, and know it very well. The book is a good representation of his earlier work, and since I happen to have the book, I may get around to creating an article on the it. Helical Camshaft[edit]

Skier Dude, Thank you for your reply. I used the {{pd-self}} copyright on the graphs so I presume this is the one to use on the photos. I would appreciate if you could apply the copyright to the photos as I am sure to make a mess of it. I will position the photos - I was meaning to rearrange them anyhow. Thank you. Twinkling unlicensed images[edit]

Hey there. I was wondering what function you're using on Twinkle to tag images unlicensed. I've been using the CSD F4 button but there seems to be a bug when notifying the uploader. I see that you use twinkle as well, but your notifications to uploaders seem alright. ZooFari 04:43, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Friedrich Wilhelm von Thulemeyer[edit]

Hallo Skier Dude, yesterday you sent me a message about a picture on Friedrich Wilhelm von Thulemeyer. Actually I uploaded two pictures on him last year. They are the only pictures in the world, because the original was lost during or after World War II in the GDR. I tried to get information in Berlin and from the Von Puttkamer's on the painter, but nobody ever heard of Thulemeyer and this painting. The day before yesterday I tried to delete the smaller picture and somehow you noticed the information was gone. [4]

Do you think it is clever to delete the smaller one of the two? It is impossible somebody will ever claim its rights. The family Thulemeyer died out early 19th century. The painter is unknown and I found the picture in a Dutch magazine, that does not exist anymore.Taksen (talk) 05:25, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copy Right MonaLisa - 800 image[edit]

Dear Skier Dude, Regarding the image I've uploaded, the original comes from wikipedia itself and I've adjusted it myself and there are no copyrights from my part involved. I've tried to update the source information but I just can't figure it out. If you would have the talent to do the update I would apreciate it, don't know if it's possible, otherwise I'll give it myself an other try later on.

"File:Linksys by Cisco WHA family.jpg" file deletion[edit]

Hi Skier Dude, I uploaded an image a few days ago and you flagged it saying it needed to be deleted. I responded to it by saying that I actually contacted the company and received permission from theme. The released the image, and several others, via CC-by-SA 3.0 via email, ticket #2009100210033461. So, I don't understand why you deleted the image. When I uploaded the image, I made sure to put that the image had been released under CC-by-SA 3.0 via email and even put the ticket # of the email. I don't know what else i could haveve done so it won't be deleted. can you help or can you undeleted the image? Elmatamoskas (talk) 16:27, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

photos being deleted[edit]

Hi Skier Dude. I have been having some trouble with the photos I've uploaded, particularly on The Cove (movie) and Killing Kasztner pages. The photos I have uploaded are part of the free use, promotional images taken from the official movie websites with permission from the directors, Louie Psihoyos and Gaylen Ross. I have tried updating the copyright tags, so that it reflects the free-use status of these photos. In addition, I have had personal contact with both directors and they assure me that the photos can be used and that they are up for use by the general public, as well. Please explain to me what else I need to do, so that the pictures can remain on their respective pages without further obtrusion. Thank you for your time. -Jmorgana2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmorgana2 (talkcontribs) 17:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Skier Dude, I am wondering why an image of McKay McKinnon, M.D. at the same name article was deleted? I believe I requested help with the licensing of the photo that I found on the internet, but I never received any feedback on that request. I know I am new here, but is it usual that when you choose the licensing "get help with putting a right tag" during upload noone does anything and it just gets deleted without even any notice to me? Please clarify that deletion to me... WildHorsesPulled (talk) 23:16, 27 October 2009 (UTC) ‎[reply]

Chinese Embassy and FDSP[edit]

re: NATO bombing of the People's Republic of China embassy in Belgrade

I accept the deletion of File:Chinese Embassy and FDSP.jpg was in accordance with wikipedia guidelines. The 'blatant copyright infringement' part is simply not accurate, however. I carefully went over Google's fair use criteria prior to posting. The image was employed in accordance with their explicitly stated terms regarding educational, press and non-profit use. I linked to these terms on the page and no actual copyright violation occurred. I believe the copyvio tag resulted from the tag rather than the deletion, mind.

The reason I'm responding is to ask for your expert opinion as to whether the image would qualify under wikipedia's fair use criteria as a non-replaceable image of a building (WP:FUG, WP:NFURG). I think the distinction between a claim of fair use and the specific acknowledgement of freedom to use the image as per Google's fair use notice is significant here. A the appropriate copyright information was on the image.

I know fair use is discouraged, but I thought I'd raise the issue here rather than simply upload the image with a new rationale. The image is genuinely impossible to replace. The core issue issue of the article is the claim the FDSP was mistaken for the embassy on satellite imagery. I'll make a low-resolution repro of the image if re-uploading for compliance with the criteria.

Thanks for your time, and for deleting the caption etc. from the page. Dduff442 (talk) 10:51, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Google map images are not licensed in a way that is acceptable for use here, as they limit use to "educational, press and non-profit..." Those restrictions are not in line with the Creative-Commons-type license that is acceptable here. IMO, a "Fair Use" claim would be challenged - but there may be the possibility of arguing that the use to show "before & after" could not be replaced. I'd highly suggest that you bring the issue up at Wikipedia:Non-free content review to get some more opinions from some those that deal with (c) and images. Skier Dude (talk) 17:43, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks -- that's very constructive input. I'll see what I can do as the image is really the only source for the information. Dduff442 (talk) 18:24, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted image on Alasdair A. K. White[edit]

I noted that you have deleted an image of the White-Fairhurst TPR Model due to insufficient evidence of copyright authorisation - my apologies for that, I am the copyright owner (Alasdair A. K. White) and I simply forgot to provide you with the necessary authority. The image can be found on my website at www.pm-solutions.com/ComfortZone_Performance.html and each page of the website carries a Creative Commons copyright licence. Having recently re-edited the page, I am content that the image remains deleted for the time being.

Alasdair A. K. White (TheSilentTraveller)TheSilentTraveller (talk) 13:31, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier Dude - you deleted the above image due to improper licensing. Can I ask for clarification? The uploader came to me for advice about their images and their question implies it was by permission to Wikipedia only, but I just wanted to make sure. Cheers, AJCham 13:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind taking a look at File:Duluthhigh.jpg?[edit]

The uploader of this image, which you tagged for speedy deletion, added a rationale. Since I'm a wimp who takes all the pleasant tasks and leaves the hard stuff to people like you, I'm not very familiar with our copyright practices. Could you take a look? I'd hate to have the new guy see his work undone. --Kizor 18:56, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well... 1) a picture of the school isn't a logo. (using logo fair use template) 2) It still doesn't have a templated license. 3) It would fail criteria #1 of the Wikipedia:Non-free content policy - as a picture of a building it's easily replaceable by a non-free image. So, even if a correct license is supplied, it will be deleted as replaceable fair use. Skier Dude (talk) 00:20, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
FIgured. :( So how do you suggest we go along fixing this? --Kizor 04:13, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for finding my Fair Use Images that have been removed from the article namespace. I have uploaded, and tagged many, so I guess it was inevitable that some of them be removed. Thanks, Tim1357 (talk) 21:17, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see I missed a few of his uploads. I am now suspicious of all his uploads because they all seem to be stolen and tagged as PD. Naughty chap. I am also looking at his commons images but they don't have sources which makes it more difficult to find the originals, unless they are really his. Any help you can give there would be great. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 05:18, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice job with zapping the overwritten history on File:Mill Creek.jpg. I never saw that before. So far I could only tag 3 commons images that I found sources for. (I usually watch the page I start a discussion on for a while, so no need to respond on my talk page, or to this.) Cheers ww2censor (talk) 05:39, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
