Addition to L. Steven Grasz

Greetings! I see you've removed recently-added material from L. Steven Grasz. I don't see where this qualifies for a 3RR exemption per WP:BLP, as the material is adequately sourced. I strongly suggest that you self-revert and then explain your concerns about the edit at the talk page. —C.Fred (talk) 02:33, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Photo for C. Kevin Blackstone

Hi - I’m Kevin Blackstone. I see that you’ve edited my Wiki page in the past. I have a new official photo, but am not sure how to upload it and remove the other one. Could you advise? Editor369 (talk) 17:02, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

@Editor369: Afternoon Ambassador. If you're in possession of that photo, it can be uploaded using http://commons.wikimedia.org. You can use this guide: Illustrating Wikipedia: A guide to contributing content to Wikimedia Commons that illustrates how to upload and place an image in an article. Best of luck and congratulations! Snickers2686 (talk) 17:30, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, I’ll give it a try. 71.114.70.117 (talk) 23:00, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Snickers - I’m clearly not up to par on the editing. I uploaded my new official pic to the same site as the old one (C. Kevin Blackstone.jpg) on Wikipedia Commons, but can’t seem to figure out how to put it into the place of the old one. Can you assist, or maybe advise what I’m doing wrong? Editor369 (talk) 14:15, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

@Editor369:: The old file was C. Kevin Blackstone.jpg and the new file you uploaded was named C. Kevin Blackstone - official pic.jpg so there was a slight variance in the file name, but I went and replaced the file name in the article, so the new photo is there now. If there's anything else I can assist with, please feel free to reach out. Snickers2686 (talk) 19:29, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks very much. I’ll just edit the title, since, technically, I’m not sworn in until the final attestation, hopefully in a few weeks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor369 (talkcontribs) 14:12, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, President Biden hasn't announced any nominees to the courts yet, so it seems premature to add those names to the draft.73.110.217.186 (talk) 19:47, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

This is a draft, and is not bound by policies governing article content unless and until it is moved to article space. Drafts often contain temporary text and notes of things to be developed. If it makes you feel better, add a {{citation needed}} tag to the lines for now. BD2412 T 20:12, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

It's always a struggle with many, between confirmation & swearing in.

FWIW, I'm in agreement with you at Antony Blinken. However, it's futile to stop less knowledgeable editors (including IPs) from updating these bios, at the moment they're confirmed by the US Senate. Most folks don't know enough to wait until the swearing in. Protection of all the Biden cabinet & cabinet level nominees should be in place, until they're sworn in. GoodDay (talk) 19:49, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

@GoodDay: Yeah, I agree with you. I've requested temporary protection for the Blinken page and I assume it will probably have to be done with all his nominees once they've been confirmed. Snickers2686 (talk) 20:00, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

cosmetic changes

Why are you making cosmetic changes like this which do not affect the reader-facing article at all. It just clutters up watchlists. MB 18:32, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

@MB: To provide uniformity amongst like-minded articles since there is an infobox template relating specifically to judges. The fact that it "clutters" up watchlists is out of my control. Snickers2686 (talk) 19:43, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
These are not two different templates. {{infobox judge}} is just a redirect to
Snickers2686/Archive 14
. This is a cosmetic change and project consensus discourages such changes not done as part of a more substantive edit. MB 19:57, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
@MB: Which project? Snickers2686 (talk) 20:03, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
The entire project. WP:COSMETICBOT is the policy specifically for bots, and the last paragraph notes that human editors should keep this in mind also. Various discussions I have seen over the years suggest many editors are bothered by cosmetic-only changes for the reasons given, myself included. I have over 5000 pages on my watchlist and do not want to waste time checking edits that are only done for internal uniformity. MB 20:18, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
@MB: I'll take a look at it and if that's what has been surmised, then I'll follow it, but again, the length of your watchlist and/or what changes occur to it is out of my control. Snickers2686 (talk) 20:21, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey, regarding this edit to the article for U.S. federal judge Lynn Adelman, can you explain the change in title? "United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Wisconsin" is the official title (as defined by the statute) and is the proper U.S. government style (according to U.S. government style guides). I used to do a lot of paperwork for a federal agency and this style was strictly enforced. On Wikipedia, I see this title ("United States District Judge for...") frequently edited to the incorrect style ("Judge of the United States District Court..."), and I have to assume it's because there's some guidance or discussion about this being the default preferred judicial style on Wikipedia ("Judge of XXX"). But I can't find such guidance anywhere on Wikipedia; I started a discussion months ago on the federal judiciary WikiProject and got no engagement. Would love to know where this style comes from. --Asdasdasdff (talk) 03:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Removing items posted

Hello,

I see you removed numerous birth years for federal judges I researched. I will go back to include the links for the birth years. I see there are dozens of federal judges that have their year of birth included that were posted by other people that you did not remove. I am trying to understand why you decided to remove the updates I made. Going forward, if you would just let me know if there is an issue with something I posted before you just delete it I would be happy to correct it.

Thank you Dequanhargrove (talk) 02:19, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

@Dequanhargrove: The issue with the citations you're using is, they don't cite an actual birth year or birthdate, that's why I remove them. Snickers2686 (talk) 16:05, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. And correct, they don't list the date of birth however for instance if it says they are 40 years of age, I just do the subtraction from 2021. It may be off by months but I am ok with listing it as 1979/1980 as I have seen you do on other pages. I am just asking instead of completely deleting the work I researched, lets work together to have as much accurate information as we can. Dequanhargrove (talk) 19:02, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

@Dequanhargrove: But again, the difference is I use this template: {{birth based on age as of date|age|year|month|day}} which, if stated in an article/reference, lists an age based on a date, so then the template itself will work out what year they were born and it's properly cited; however, I've noticed some citations you've made to Martindale for instance that list no birth year or birthdate at all, so to infer when their date/year of birth is based on a graduation date is incorrect, per WP:DOB: Original research cannot be used to extrapolate the date of birth. It has to be referenced in the citation used and then cited properly. I'll give you a chance to self revert the changes you made and/or find proper citations for birth years. Snickers2686 (talk) 01:27, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you. That is a great explanation. I was not aware there was a format for inserting the age. I do not have the exact dates of birth's. I will not update the side article unless I have the exact dates of birth's going forward. I can just indicate in the main article section the year of birth with a notation it is an approximate year of birth (Ex: 1979/1980) as I have seen done on other articles so the year of birth does not show up in the main section of the courts. Dequanhargrove (talk) 15:43, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

@Dequanhargrove: You can always use the {{circa}} template to indicate an approximate age/year of birth. There are many different ways to calculate an age within Wikipedia, I would familiarize yourself with Template:Age and WP:AGECALC to go over the various ways it can be done. My rule of thumb is, if the subject's article has a birthdate or birth year referenced, even if approximate, I've included it in a court article's main page. Snickers2686 (talk) 15:58, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Excellent, I will review. Thank you Dequanhargrove (talk) 16:06, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Page for DHS General Counsel Nominee Jonathan Meyer

Hi Snickers,

Do you think it would be appropriate for you to create the article for Jonathan Meyer. POTUS Biden has nominated him to serve as general counsel of DHS, essentially the number 3 position there. It has been highlighted in numerous articles. The nomination is currently pending before the US Senate. It appears you have taken note of and edited the DHS Nominations page so is this an appointment for which its own page should be created, particularly given the heightened publicity around the legality of DHS actions?

@2601:14d:8503:d790:f856:6ad3:d50b:abb2: Oh, I plan on making an article regarding this nominee, if it hasn't been done already. I've gone through the nomination pages and noted which prominent figures don't have an article yet and he is one of them. I just have to gather reliable sources first. Thank you for noticing and the suggestion. Snickers2686 (talk) 03:56, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
@Snickers2686: I believe the HSGAC hearing for this was held already and floor deliberation should be imminent. Perhaps it could be useful to have this up and running prior to confirmation. 66.109.44.242 (talk) 16:39, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
