New help request

[edit]

Hello! I've added reliable secondary sources to the entry created. Can someone help me check? I also found out that there is a French version to this page. How should we interlink the text in another language to the entry in English? Thanx! Tabulyantonia (talk) 19:19, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I think you still misunderstand the issue. No one is refuting the sources at this point, your sources are fine. What is lacking in an assertion of notability. In the article I mentioned above there is a section about criteria for Creative professionals that I don't feel has been met by the article. I think it probably can be met, but some text (supported by the sources) has to be added to the article to assert that notability. Just being good at something and well-liked is not enough, the article subject also has to be important. I'm leaving the {{Help me}} tag on this discussion to help bring some more eyes to the issue. I could be wrong, and if I am some other editors will help us both by adding their voice. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 20:05, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've linked the English and French articles on Fiona Sze-Lorrain. In the left sidebar there's a "languages" section; that has an "Edit links" link that allows to add links to foreign-language versions of the article. In my view, the article's main flaw could be summarized as "too much fluff, not enough facts." For example, "she moves fluidly between American, European, and Asian sensibilities" - what does that even mean? Missing, on the other hand, is practically all biographical information beyond her place of birth - no date of birth, no information on her education, no information on where she currently lives and how she came to be there after growing up partly in New York, nothing on how her careers as a guzheng player and as a writer fit together (chronologically, for example). The China Daily article provides answers to many of those questions (but not all), yet it's cited for the "Shanghainese family", something it does not confirm. The article should be a summary (in our own words, not merely a collection of quotes) of what reliable third-party sources report about her; right now the impression I get that first we had a nice-sounding article, and then we tried to find sources that might back it up. Several of those sources are very good, but others, including the blog interview, are less reliable.
Notability seems a minor issue to me; someone written about in detail by the China Daily and reviewed in the Prairie Schooner should satisfy the general notability guideline. If there are reliable third-party sources discussing any awards she might have won, those might be nice to add. Huon (talk) 20:15, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Huon's assessment and explanations. I've changed the maintenance tag on the article to indicate the need for more biographical information. Please feel free to ask additional questions about the article on the article's talk page. I'm following there and will try to help with the clean up if needed. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 20:50, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
