Image Tagging Image:Mario.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Mario.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Sherool (talk) 21:42, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
Penultimate?
[edit]On the Mario Kart page, I noticed that you changed "next to last" back to "penultimate." I seriously doubt that a lot of people would know what penultimate means; I myself had to look it up to find out what it meant. I think it would just be a lot easier to say "next to last" instead of the fancier term. What do you think? Hbdragon88 20:39, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
To me, "next to last" sounds a bit long (as in a lot of words), or perhaps un-educated. Maybe it's different where you come from, but where I come from, while a six year old wouldn't know it, it isn't too much of a fancy term. Sorry this was so late in coming.

Manual of style
[edit]I noticed that you essentailly reverted my reduction of solitary year linking (i.e. from 1997 to 1997. I probably should have explained – I was delinking the years in accordence to Wikipedia's Manual of Style; specifically, making links relevent to the context. According to the guide: "Months, days, years" should not be linked; only full dates, like those that include the month and day, should be linked. - Hbdragon88 21:19, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
How different are these games? I don't see why they need two different titles if there is some connection between them. Cheers! BD2412 T 17:55, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
Non-free use disputed for Image:MKDS9.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:MKDS9.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 11:53, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of João Carlos Teixeira
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on João Carlos Teixeira, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Sir Sputnik (talk) 18:15, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Template:2013–14 Football League One table
[edit]Hi. I just wanted to let you know that in your edits at Template:2013–14 Football League One table you made a few mistakes. First of all you forgot to update the date at the bottom of the table as of when the matches was played. Secondly you did not move the entire {{fb cl team .... weight:bold;}}}}
row so the bolding got wrong on the team pages, since for example Crewe got the shortening for Sheffield United (SFU). I corrected it here. On the upside you did very good not moving the switches and you did update the helper template, which many forgets so keep up the good work. QED237 (talk) 14:19, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Category:Football League clubs
[edit]- First of all - sorry for incorrectly reverting your edits on QPR, Reading and Mansfield. I just assumed that, because the edit on Southampton was wrong, all your edits at the same time were wrong. Mea culpa. My understanding of the basic structure of categories is that once an article belongs to a category, it stays there permanently. Thus, we don't have a Category:Former Premier League clubs. IMHO, the Category:Former Football League clubs should be deleted and all its contents moved back up to the Category:Football League clubs. The separate Category:Defunct Football League clubs should be retained, as long as it only includes defunct clubs who had once been in The Football League. I am copying this discussion to WT:FOOTY. Best wishes. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:06, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Places of birth and death in infoboxes
[edit]Hi The-, I noticed you have been making edits of the type here [1] and here, replacing country names with links to articles about specific earlier constitutional forms of the countries involved ("Germany" → "Nazi Germany" and "Greece" → "Kingdom of Greece" respectively). Can I ask you to please not make such edits? The purpose of these infobox fields is to answer the question "where?", not the question "under what political system?". We should give the reader the article that most easily identifies the place, and that is the top-level main article about the country, not a sub-article about a specific political phase of its history. Giving links to earlier historic states sometimes makes sense when countries have changed completely, but that is not the case here: "Greece" in 1854 was already "Greece" just as much as it is today, and "Germany" in 1945 was already the same "Germany" it is today. These are the same countries, merely under different political systems. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:01, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Historical election maps
[edit]Hello! I'm impressed with your work on council election result articles—I have Plymouth council elections on my watchlist and you've really done a lot to improve them. I was wondering where you got hold of shapefiles for historical ward boundaries? I've looked for them myself in the past but never had any luck. Ralbegen (talk) 19:11, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, it's good to know my work is noticed and appreciated. Most of the old ward maps come from the Local Government Boundary Commision for England website. If you look through the archived reviews of ward boundaries that took place in the late 1990s/early 2000s they will show a map of the previously existing ward boundaries as well as the proposed new boundaries. Sometimes it will all be in the same document, and sometimes the old boundaries will be shown in a separate map. For the 2001 Plymouth review, it's the latter. Here is the Plymouth page and here is the map showing the pre-existing boundaries. Here is an example of where they are shown all in one.
- It is also possible to find some old ward maps on archived versions of council websites, for example here is a map of the same ward boundaries on an archived version of the Plymouth Council website. I used the other map though as it is more accurate. Full maps of the old county council boundaries are unfortunately not available on the LGBCE website, but they can sometimes be found on archived versions of the County Council website.
