Wikiproject Video games Newsletter survey[edit]

Hello Joe! I'm conducting a feature for the video games newsletter similar to that of a survey. I'm going to ask users their opinions on a specific matter and highlight unique and common answers to determine consensus on a subject. Your input would be very valuable, alongside others, to help answer this question.

The question is: How do you determine what makes a video game character notable enough for their own page? Do you follow pre-existing guidelines or have your own opinions on the matter?

Panini🥪 10:44, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Panini!, I usually see if there are a few in-depth articles that are mostly or all about the character in question. If so, I comb them to see if they contain noteworthy critical discussion of the character. I generally follow the preexisting guidelines, as I think they do a good job of defining what makes a character notable. JOEBRO64 15:29, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TheJoebro64, Thanks for your input! Panini🥪 15:31, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accidental reversion[edit]

Hello. I accidentally reverted a reversion you had made to change Mii Channel back into a redirect. I've undone my reversion and I wanted to apologize for my mistake. Thanks, Hashstalk 22:51, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EatYourHashs, oh no problem! I've done that more than once. JOEBRO64 22:57, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here's some wings[edit]

Buffalo Wings
From a guy in a suburb in Buffalo, New York and a wing fanatic, here's some wings for ya for your plethora of video game articles inspiring me to get my groove on with editing this online encyclopedia even more. You and Darkwarriorblake's featured articles gave me templates on how to improve future articles I create and expand. HumanxAnthro (talk) 23:41, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@HumanxAnthro: om nom nom Gosh, thank you! I absolutely love your work on articles like Conker's Bad Fur Day and Plok!—keep it up! (funnily enough, I just had some wings earlier today...) JOEBRO64 23:45, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. BTW, a comment about the Donkey Kong Country article; I'm noticing a source in the bibliography (""Data stream". News. Next Generation. No. 3. Imagine Media. March 1995. p. 18.") but I don't see it cited in the article anywhere. Did I miss it? HumanxAnthro (talk) 23:54, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
HumanxAnthro, I'm not sure. The citations are still pretty messy from when Jaguar and I were preparing it for FAC last year; before other stuff got in the way, I recall still having to go through all the sources and get rid of the ones that weren't used. I was planning to possibly convert them back to normal citations (I'm not a huge fan of Harvard cites) before I got caught up in real life and our FAC ambitions fell by the wayside. So it may not be cited anywhere in the article, but it could be. I don't remember. JOEBRO64 23:57, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"I hope to make it through 2021 before I leave." Oh no, are you gonna be retiring soon? I hope not :( HumanxAnthro (talk) 02:54, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
HumanxAnthro, oh no! I'm not leaving. I'm going to college this year, so my Wiki activities may no longer be a massive priority. I'll have to reword that... JOEBRO64 03:04, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Your input would be of value on the talk page for Super Mario Galaxy, where I have raised a discussion regarding the inclusion of "U R MR GAY" with reliable sources. As you have made significant contributions to the article, your perspective seems relevant. Waxworker (talk) 16:50, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dang, I was gonna do that. I replied instead. Panini📚 03:19, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Three-Quarter Million Award[edit]

The Three-Quarter Million Award
For your contributions to bring Sonic the Hedgehog (estimated annual readership: 870,000) to Featured Article status, I hereby present you the Three-Quarter Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers!  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 11:03, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Been combing through some VG articles and seeing which editors are eligible for any one of the Million awards. Sonic the Hedgehog had annual views of 870,000 last year Congrats!  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 11:03, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Spy-cicle: huh, I'd never noticed this until now. A very belated thank you! JOEBRO64 17:25, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BRD[edit]

You see, when you actually check the article history, you will see other editors like you who keep getting reverted because you keep removing sourced information. You may want to consider stopping. ภץאคгöร 19:27, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nyxaros, really? Because I just looked and I only found two edits: yours, and someone who added OR about user scores as well. It's debatable if reviews were mixed, and different sources say different things, so we should not make our own labels and just state the facts indicated by the reception section. You're the only one who's edit warring here. JOEBRO64 19:32, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Precious anniversary[edit]

Precious
Three years!

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:58, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for Sonic the Hedgehog, introduced: "Even if you don't follow video games, there's no way you've never heard of Sonic the Hedgehog. It's the series that single-handedly ended Nintendo's monopoly on the market, the franchise that turned Sega into a corporate behemoth and industry leader, and the brand that proved how effective youth marketing can be. Maybe you played the games in the '90s, when Sonic was more recognizable than Mickey Mouse. Or the 3D games of the early 2000s. Or maybe you or your kids watched the TV shows. Or you know about the memes and bizarre fanbase. Sonic's been a huge part of pop culture for almost 30 years, and I think it'll be staying around for a lot longer. This article chronicles the entire history of the series, through all of its greatest accomplishments and most devastating embarrassments."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:04, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Batman: A Death in the Family you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Some Dude From North Carolina -- Some Dude From North Carolina (talk) 01:00, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article Batman: A Death in the Family you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Batman: A Death in the Family for issues which need to be addressed. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Some Dude From North Carolina -- Some Dude From North Carolina (talk) 19:40, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article Batman: A Death in the Family you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Batman: A Death in the Family for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. About the recent edits[edit]

Can you explain why you reverted edits (on several Sonic pages and one Rayman page) where I credited the developers? I checked several articles relating list of video games from each development studio and several articles were using the category about games from this developer, hence I added that. Shouldn't we accidentally get rid of some games from Sonic Team's game listings if you don't approve to add a studio on infobox? Zeephare (talk) 19:59, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Zeephare, the list was incorrect. Sonic Team didn't exist when Sonic 2, Sonic CD, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles were created. The history sections in Sonic Team and Sega Technical Institute explain this. I updated the list to amend the errors. JOEBRO64 01:14, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A line that leads to nothing...[edit]

As a heads up, I made an edit to the Sonic 2 article to comment out a line you added to the lead concerning the game's prototypes... which never get brought up again. This threw me off when I read the article, and given MOS:INTRO, I felt it was best to hide it until something is added. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 01:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Brainulator9, ah, I’d forgotten to remove that when I rewrote the lede a little while ago. I have a draft where I was working on improvements to the article, which includes discussion of the prototypes. I got caught up with other things and never got around to finishing the article. Thanks for catching that. JOEBRO64 02:10, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome; I hope to see that section. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 02:18, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wording[edit]

You couldn't provide a valid reason for your edits. You cannot keep edit warring just because you don't like it. You MUST wait for consensus. Your contribution might be the consensus in the end, but being right about an issue does not mean you're behaving properly. ภץאคгöร 12:50, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You're the one who's constantly trying to force in your preferred wording in spite of the fact that no one agrees with you, so I don't see how I was edit warring. Also IDONTLIKEIT is an AfD topic that has no relevance and does not help your case in the slightest.
Also, re: "smartass": why don't you go and familiarize yourself with WP:NPA? JOEBRO64 13:09, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021[edit]

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello TheJoebro64,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Congratulations, TheJoebro64! The article you nominated, A Death in the Family (comics), has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) via FACBot (talk) 12:05, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Sources confirming production is underway"[edit]

Hello! I noticed your edit summary for contesting the PROD said that there are sources that confirm production has begun. What sources are these exactly? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:07, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Blaze the Wolf: the article contains a Nintendo Life source from last year in which Nintendo's president stated that production was "moving along smoothly" (there's also this Eurogamer source). For animated films, an article can exist as long as it's confirmed production has begun. JOEBRO64 19:11, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah alright. Thank you for clarifying! All I had known was that we got a release date and also the voice actors for the characters. Another user expressed a similar concern on the talk page. I do wonder how it'll turn out though.Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:15, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft notice[edit]

This is a notice that there is a draft for Robert Pattinson's Batman at Draft:Bruce Wayne (2022 film character) until such a time that it is ready for inclusion in the mainspace. All are welcome to come help nurture the article's development there. Painting17 (talk) 00:50, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Painting17: I've tagged the article for speedy deletion. There's no indication that the character will be independently notable. JOEBRO64 01:08, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sandman & Lizard in No Way Home[edit]

I'm still in disagreement with the decision to include Thomas Haden Church and Rhys Ifans on the cast list. Firstly, the only linked source on the No Way Home page is an Entertainment Weekly article in which Sandman and Lizard are mentioned by way of their previous actors, but unlike Molina, Dafoe, and Foxx, aren't said to be reprising their roles. Recent material, including the new trailer, has indeed confirmed that their characters will return, but it's unknown whether we'll even see or hear Ifans or Church outside of their superhero forms, or whether they'll be portrayed by voice and/or person by different actors. Second, Sandman or Lizard's CGI forms simply "looking like" Church and Ifans isn't valid enough. That's like saying Goblin on the posters looked like Dafoe, so he must be portrayed by the same actor. Reverting edit[edit]

Hey! You reverted my editing adding Coleen O'Shaughnessy back due to her being on the website. Why? Is she not on the website for you? If so then that's rather odd. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 23:42, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NEvermind you explained it. I didn't actually understand what the billing block was and assumed it was the "starring" and other things on the page. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 23:43, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering if she requested to be left off the billing block or if they just accidentally forgot her. Regardless thanks for explaining. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 23:45, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know if you've seen it (missed the capitalization of your name, but fixed it later), but your helpful contributions to the Top 25 Report this year make you fit for the annual report. You can claim what topics interest you, and even change the color identifying your write-ups, whenever you feel like it. The Batman poster[edit]

I had uploaded the new one because it was less hazy than the previous one, and showed the Bat much clearer. Kailash29792 (talk) 03:32, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792, I personally don't think changing the poster is necessary right now. The current poster is fine and clear enough (it discernably shows the main character, the title, and the release date), and the one you uploaded has improper dimensions. I don't think we need to change it until the final release poster (with the billing block) is released. JOEBRO64 17:50, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent reverts at The Suicide Squad[edit]

While I respect why you are reverting this edit, keep in mind that anyone can start a discussion to avoid edit warring, which is what the history is now starting to show. Even if the WP:ONUS falls on the editor attempting the change, we should avoid back and forth as much as possible and go right to the talk page. Sometimes 1 reversion is called for, but rarely will that be the case for 2 reverts, let alone 3. This is especially true when you know you're dealing with an editor that will revert right back. Going to talk first is actually the prudent move, and it puts the other editor on notice and the ball in their court. Just some friendly advice that hopefully helps in situations like this. --GoneIn60 (talk) 01:56, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the article, introduced: "A Death in the Family" is one of the most infamous comic book stories ever released by a major publisher. When DC Comics realized that Jason Todd, who had replaced Dick Grayson as Batman's sidekick Robin in 1983, was an obnoxious little snot who many fans hated, it made what at the time was an unprecedented decision—the fans could decide if he would die or not. They voted to off the little punk, and sure enough, this story—by The Infinity Gauntlet writer Jim Starlin and veteran artist Jim Aparo—saw the Joker beat Todd to a pulp with a crowbar before blowing him up. "A Death in the Family" left a massive impact on future Batman stories and, to this day, Batman's failure to save his adopted son remains one of the most shocking and disturbing moments in his 80-year history."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:50, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Batman Budget Revisions[edit]

There is no justification for you to undo my revision. Wikipedia cites Forbes as an acceptable primary source, as shown in the link below. Wikipedia's sources page does distinguish between "Forbes Staff" and "Contributors." Articles by "Forbes Staff," which this one is, are acceptable sources. This budget figure is cited as a fact in the article, not an opinion. The Forbes article does not need to cite a "source" for its budget figure, as you erroneously claimed, any more than the Deadline article does. You should be aware that these professional articles that mention film budgets do not typically explain anything about where they got the budget figure from.

The Riddler and Batman's Identity[edit]

You did a great job with the movie summary. I ask that you show some humility here, because the part about Riddler figuring out his identity is wrong. No shame in that. I will try to convince you of why. Riddler clearly tries to kill Bruce Wayne in this movie. He sends him a bomb. He hates him. He tells him that much. Yet he sees Batman as his partner, his ally, he wants Batman to succeed and be with him at Arkham. You can clearly see how killing Bruce wouldn't make sense if he knew his identity. At the beginning of the scene, it is implied that he knows, yes. Even Batman is scared and looks at the camera, yes. But he keeps a poker face long enough until Riddler gives out that he doesn't know. When Riddler says that he doesn't think the identity behind is important, he MEANS it. He thinks Batman is a tortured "nobody" like himself. He clearly thinks someone who grew "with a view to a park" couldn't possible know the trauma it takes for both of them to act the way they do. Again, I think the rest of you summary is exceptional, but you misunderstood that part. I'd be happy for you to rewrite it in a less verbose way. --JoaumBoladaum (talk) 06:05, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the article with the careful introduction: "Sonic the Hedgehog is a 2006 video game published by Sega for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. It's best known for its negative reception, often being cited as one of the worst games in the Sonic series and in gaming in general. However, its story is one that is not widely known. You see, the game that became what is now known as Sonic '06 wasn't even supposed to be a Sonic game. It was conceived as a separate, completely different property. But, when it came time to create a new game in the Sonic franchise, series creator Yuji Naka wanted something big. He wanted to give Sonic a facelift, like how DC Comics had revived Batman for his 2005 outing Batman Begins. Thus, development on Sonic the Hedgehog began. The designers, with the advanced technical capabilities of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, began to create a vast, more realistic world for Sonic and his friends to explore. With these innovations, they created a new character (Silver) and experimented with new ideas never seen before. But it all went downhill from there. Naka suddenly resigned, and there was no one left who had worked on the first games in the series anymore. Then Sega got development kits for a system then known as the Revolution, and it split the game's development team into two: one to work on Sonic '06, and another to work on a completely different game that would eventually become Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii. There was now a small, inexperienced development team working on the former and... they rushed it. When it finally came out, critics blasted Sonic the Hedgehog as an insult to Sonic's fifteen years of making gaming history. What was supposed to be the Batman Begins for Sonic turned into the Fantastic Four (2015) for Sonic, and it left a stain that is still felt today." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:35, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sonic Robo Blast 2[edit]

Hello, I noticed your addition of Article Request: Sonic Robo Blast 2 back in 2018. Do you still have these sources that you mentioned? I am currently writing the article and any information would be very useful. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 17:49, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@PerryPerryD:, hi! Unfortunately, I don't have the sources I mentioned, but if I recall correctly they may be in an older version of the article that was deleted. I'd ask an admin to see if they can take a look. Also, given that I made the request years ago at this point, I'm not exactly sure if it'd meet the requirements for a standalone article. (I didn't have a strong grasp on WP:N at the time.) Happy to help out if you'd like though! JOEBRO64 02:56, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I figured I required a citation for the last paragraph, so that can understandably be omitted.

The textures weren't higher res in DX though. They're objectively worse due to recompression of the original stuff and simplified lighting, two of the worst examples are here

NPOV edit[edit]

You claim that your closure of the Sonic 3D Blast discussion in the Sonic Template talk wasn't in violation of WP:NPOV, when it clearly was. You gave the reason that no new points were made and it was the same discussion as before, when it was literally debating a new source, and its significance in relation with the game's status. -- Bluest Bird (talk) 16:00, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're completely misapplying WP:NPOV. NPOV's about encyclopedic content, not talk pages. The discussion was pointless and did nothing but regurgitate previous points, so I closed it. Also, may I ask if this is your first/only account? The topic is the frequent target of a sockfarm and your behavior is highly suspicious. JOEBRO64 17:59, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
NPOV rules that we should "Avoid stating opinions as facts". Closing a discussion that's debating "Is it X or Y?" by giving "It's X period" as the reason is passing off a POV as a fact. That's exactly what happened here. The section was debating whether the new source shed light on the game's status, and you closed it by basically saying "No it doesn't".
First account no, only account yes. Or at least only active one. I've created a number of accounts in the past, always after losing/forgetting the username/password to the old one, before settling with this one. I'm planning on staying on this one, and no, I haven't used more than one account simultaneously, nor do I have access to the old ones. -- Bluest Bird (talk) 20:12, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NPOV does not apply to talk page discussions. Full stop. Nothing at NPOV indicates it applies to talk page discussions or closing/archiving them. I can't stress enough that this is you complete misunderstanding on some of the most basic Wikipedia policy on your part. It's not even a close call. You are wrong here. Amy Rose[edit]

Hey, it's been a while, but I'm back, and I want to try and get the Amy Rose article back up. I remember you had an RFC to propose it to be redirected back into the Sonic characters article a couple years or so back, and the consensus was to merge it back there with no discriminations on re-creating it if more and better sourcing is found. So, that's what I want to try to do, because let's be honest, a character like Amy really deserves her own article, being the the most iconic female character in the Sonic series and everything. I'll use my Sandbox for now. You are welcome to help me out.

This is Kokoro20, by the way. I got the name of this account changed a little while back. I was the guy who reviewed the Shadow article for you and got it to GA. MoonJet (talk) 10:53, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, nevermind. It looks someone else already just restored the article, coincidentally. I'll see what I can do for the article from there. MoonJet (talk) 12:09, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see you merged Amy back. While I agree that Ceedub88 jumped the gun on restoring the article, I also think you jumped the gun on restoring the merge. There was a consensus to merge, but that was based on its then-current state. I have been trying to improve it. MoonJet (talk) 13:32, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) - MoonJet What you are saying is not the proper application of WP:BRD. Once that editor boldly un-redirected, and then was reverted, the proper venue was a talk page discussion on the talk page, not restoring the page again. The redirect restoration by Joebro was proper. Furthermore, the restored article was not significantly different from the article with a clear consensus for merging. If you truly want to pursue this, I'd recommend working on a draft, and when you're done, starting up a new discussion on whether or not the merge should be upheld. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 20:41, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair, I wasn't the one restoring the article, but I see what you're saying. Maybe I shouldn't have blamed Joebro here. I just found it a little frustrating, as I was trying to improve it. But with all that said, I currently have a draft at User:MoonJet/Amy Rose. You can check that one out, Joebro, and let me know what you think so far. MoonJet (talk) 21:19, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Batman[edit]

Why did you revert my contributions to the Depiction of Batman section? The sourced content is just one person's interpretation. The interpretation seemed very narrow, so I provided a more context to paint a more complete picture. Nothing I added was factually incorrect and I worked very hard to make my wording very accurate.

Also, I've never been reverted like this before so I apologize if I'm using this discussion feature incorrectly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashura777 (talkcontribs) 12:45, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ashura777, your addition was original research not backed up by a reliable source. We cite the interpretations of what reliable sources say, not editors. JOEBRO64 16:49, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But it was a politically slanted source. I can provide a counter-argument from articles on the political right, but since the ratio of liberals to conservatives who cover mass media is something like 99 to 1, that requirement probably shouldn't be in place for topics in which mass media and politics intersect. Additionally, it's not like Mr. Baker from Inverse is a vetted publication. It's essentially a blog. So I don't think it should be presented in this definitive manner at all. But instead of deleting it I just provided additional context and perspective. I have a higher degree in mass-media than Mr. Baker does. It's funny that his publishing ~5 articles at Inverse would be what matters more.
In the end, if the only way to progress here is for me to cite other articles, I can do that. But I don't think it's super productive to turn this into a left vs. right perspective thing, which is all you really get in that particular sphere of bloggers.

May 2022[edit]

Your user page lists some interest in music articles and I've had a successful GAN for the music group BTS. I've not done a FAC and was wondering if you might be interested in a possible co-nomination for the article for FAC. The article has been stable for several months now and has an archive of about 1000 fully formated citations created by previous editors. Any interest? ErnestKrause (talk) 20:56, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ErnestKrause, I can take a look at the article and help clean it up in preparation. I'm not terribly familiar with music articles, however, so I don't think I'd be a good co-nominator. I think Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music would be a better place to ask for a co-nominator. JOEBRO64 22:32, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll look forward to seeing those clean up edits and preparation edits when you can do them. ErnestKrause (talk) 15:33, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Batman (part 2)[edit]

Why are you reverting my contributions? You asked me weeks ago to cite sources so I did my homework and did just that. Your reasons were that the sources weren't valid when they are just as valid as what you are content to leave in. You also said one review was not analysis only a regurgitation of the plot, but it wasn't, it was a review - hence analysis. So what are you trying to achieve exactly? It comes off as nothing more than gatekeeping perspectives you don't align with. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashura777 (talkcontribs) 20:06, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you checked my edits, I only removed the sources that weren't reliable and left in those that were. Please review WP:RS and WP:RSP to determine what sources are and are not reliable. The "analysis" in that New Yorker review I removed was just regurgitating plot information—it didn't say anything noteworthy about what the film's messages and themes are in the slightest. JOEBRO64 20:09, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And what criteria are you using to determine which sources are and are not reliable?
The New Yorker review doesn't have to specifically mention themes if the content quoted reflects the theme discussed on the wiki page. Ashura777 (talk) 20:14, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do the sources provide staff pages and editorial policies? From what I saw on the websites, Killer Movie Reviews and ScreenItPlus don't. And The New Yorker review doesn't have to specifically mention themes if the content quoted reflects the theme discussed on the wiki page is pure WP:SYNTH. JOEBRO64 20:19, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this reply. I see where you are coming from much better now. I think I said this a while back but I've never been involved in a Wiki disagreement/edit war before so this is new territory for me. I will look into the sources, arguments, and phrasing in light of what you just said. Hopefully you can understand my confusion when some blogger's work is treated as reliable while other's is not. But I can see the logic behind your criteria. So like I said, I'll take another crack at it soon. It's important to me that the film's analysis not be so lacking in diversity and inclusion and from the context provided so far, it felt like you were just trying to squash perspectives. It's fine with me if certain bars need to be cleared to achieve that diversity of thought. I just didn't see the difference before. Thanks for that clarification. Hopefully we can collaborate on this as it progresses. Ashura777 (talk) 20:43, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's worth remembering that the movie's only been out for two months. A lot of detailed analysis hasn't been written yet. JOEBRO64 21:52, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
