Re:Aerith

[edit]

Well, if that's the case then go ahead and unhide it. I originally tried to add the info for {{cite web}}, but the link and gametrailers website would only return an error. Based on that and the incomplete reference info, I figured it'd best to hide it until it could be completed and verified. If you could add the missing info it would be much appreciated. The only thing it's missing is the title and accessdate. If the date it was posted is available that would help too. Thanks for the heads up. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:00, 30 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for finishing that it up. In regard to the citation template, I think either one is fine. If there's specific information that needs to be cited like time a specific scene occurs or an isbn, then I'd use cite video. But since it's a short web video embedded on a webpage, I normally use cite web. But either one can convey the appropriate information. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:57, 30 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Re: Fina Fantasy VII AC

[edit]

Hmm... I'm not sure. I'd say some of those would be best to avoid, but others look like they should be OK; like the interviews. I've been meaning to try to hunt down some of the issue information. Like the Nomura interviews on those fan sites. The proper/safe thing to do would be to cite the magazine, and provide the fansite link as a translation. But few people seem to know which issue these come from, just that it's the latest issue. I guess try contacting the website and see if they can provide the information.

In regard to RS, it has been getting tighter over time. The unfortunately thing about it is the amount of grey area in the description and other policies. I do wish more editors would try to talk things out more to come to a real resolution. Not taking the time to communicate and explain things normally leads to edit warring, arguments, and hostility. That's one reason I stopped posting on WT:VG, the amount of bickering that takes places there is more than I care to deal with. I guess see if you can start a discussion on the talk pages. Not sure what else to do. :-\ (Guyinblack25 talk 17:07, 3 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Nah, it's no bother man. I just wish I had more time to try and address some of this stuff. I'd like to get back to pushing articles to FA and GA. I guess we just do what we can for now. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:18, 3 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I've made the requested changes to the article. You can take a look at them when you have a chance. Thanks! Nall (talk) 04:24, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Final Fantasy VII

[edit]

Looks good to me, although to sum up the entirety of development you might want to compress the N64->PlayStation switch and add a sentence or two about the other topics covered in development. It's a shame most video game articles don't have comprehensive leads, considering the WP:LEAD is supposed to sum up the entire article... Cheers, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 15:59, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I'm writing to give you my rationale as to why I'm undoing your edit under the reason of "too detailed." I have corrected and/or given more detail to a noticeable amount of ambiguity and errors in the article that I have deemed necessary. For instance under 'Story', in the current revision that you have reverted to, there is an obvious error in "President Laguna apologizes for the incident and announces Dr. Odine's plan to let Ultimecia possess Rinoa and use Ellone's power to compress time, as it would allow Squall's group to confront Ultimecia in person." From your 'user page' I understand that you have indeed "completed" Final Fantasy VIII. That is why you should be aware that Ellone in fact, cannot "compress time", for it is the ability of Ultimecia. Ellone, rather, can only send the consciousness of individuals into the past, for instance, Squall's experience of Laguna's past. This is why you should notice that it is necessary to bring Ultimecia into discussion and which is why I included a short description of the Time Compression process (believe me, that is short compared to the full details of Time Compression).

Another error I've spotted: "A conclusive battle with Edea forces Ultimecia to transfer her powers to Rinoa; Edea survives, but Rinoa enters a coma. Squall becomes obsessed with waking her and seeks the help of Dr. Odine". It wasn't Squall who was seeking Dr. Odine, but rather it was Edea, who sought his aid to rid of her sorceress powers. Squall wanted to travel to Esthar in order to find Ellone (he learned this while on the white SeeD vessel) as he believed that she can remedy the situation. I've included a character reference (quote) in my revision as well.

Also, this character quote reference, "There iz only only one way to defeat Ultimecia." seems to have been taken from [1]. Of all other game scripts I have checked, they have only a single "only", which is why I have deleted the duplicate command. The last "Story" revision I will be detailing to you is "After the team escapes, Galbadian missiles destroy Trabia Garden." While each separate part of the sentence is true, the Galbadian missiles were only seen fired from the missile base; Trabia Garden was not yet hit (considering the distance between the Galbadian Army Base to Garden and Trabia, Trabia was hit much later than "after the party escapes").

Under junction, I have corrected "...and usable items. Spells are then stocked on characters as quantified inventory (up to 100 at a time) and are consumed one by one when used." because "usable items" implies that items that can be used (ie. potions, phoenix downs, tents) are magic spells. I have added "through refining" for clarification. On a similar note, "(up to 100 at a time)" implies no restrictions on the amount of distinct spells that each character can carry. I included necessary information to correct this.

As you can see, my revision was not solely on the grounds of detailing, but rather correctly several blatant mistakes in the article. I hope this rationale is satisfactory. PS: Thanks for the welcoming on my talk page. --Sokari (talk) 16:25, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for providing constructive commentary for your edits. I have only played the game once, so I'm not too familiar with it. The reason I reverted you is that the article is an FA, and because of that, the story and gameplay sections can't be overly detailed with trivial information. If this happens, it will be sent to WP:FAR, and there goes another Final Fantasy FA. However, after reading your response, I realise you were correct. But please keep in mind as a future reference that gaming articles can't include too much in-universe-information. Try to only include the most important factors, and leave out the unnecessary stuff. Thanks. The Prince (talk) 16:58, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd forgotten to unwatch Almathea's talk page, so noticed your request about this article. I've tagged it for speedy deletion. In case you didn't know, you can find the criteria for speedy deletions at WP:CSD. --Ged UK (talk) 15:42, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. I really need to read through all those WP guidelines at some stage. Just can't seem to find the time or the motivation. The Prince (talk) 15:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to explain my rationale at Talk:Xnoegars—let's discuss it there instead of scattering it across three talk pages. :)

Ah, it's nice to see someone else finally finding interest in working on the article. I've been trying to get it to GA for over a month now, so any help I can get is nice. You've done some great work on the article so far! Gary King (talk) 02:31, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words. It's ridiculous that one of the greatest games ever was in such a poor state. Anyway, I feel the article is very close to GA, and it only needs another copy edit, and some additional sources. The Prince (talk) 11:35, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's ridiculous that the greatest game ever was in such a poor state. Fixed. Oh well, it would have been good for me as a reviewer if the article would only have had some wording and reference issues, but a little more work is obviously needed. If you look closely at the text you find some cloudy statements in every paragraph. --Novil Ariandis (talk) 20:54, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's a shame that the article is so damn long... Anyway, you're right about the fact that it's not greatly written; unfortunately I'm not any good at spotting prose issues. But it's weird though, as the article used to be an FA. Maybe it's not even GA worthy. The Prince (talk) 13:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have condensed the information having read your concerns. Hopefully this is more appropriate. There is a sentence about both the universal commercial and critical success. Following that, there is the sales data but no mention of it's reception. I hope you can see why I'm adamant about including this.--HeaveTheClay (talk) 19:29, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you did some great work on the article – it was quite the monster to tackle! Now that that's done, yeah, I'll get started on FFXIII. And yeah, I think we should remove the two extra games from the topic. Gary King (talk) 00:29, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You wanna list some of the problems with the article somewhere? It isn't in that bad shape, so it shouldn't take us too long to clean it up. I think the biggest problem is the original research in the article; we have to weed those out. Gary King (talk) 15:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is there anywhere we can point to that's official and actually shows that only the 13 games that we have in the topic make up an official series? We had this problem with The Legend of Zelda titles. Gary King (talk) 17:05, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright if you find one, then let me know. Preferably more than one so we have a few that agree with each other. Gary King (talk) 18:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll ask around. If you take a look at the Zelda link I gave above, you'll see what could potentially happen if we nominate this topic. Gary King (talk) 21:11, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Final Fantasy (video game) was just delisted

[edit]

Final Fantasy (video game) was just delisted from GA. We need to work on it. Gary King (talk) 17:32, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. I'll see what I can do. The Prince (talk) 18:50, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've cleaned it up quite a bit. There's a lot of information in these old video game articles that are a bit too detailed for a general encyclopedia; a lot of stuff can be cut, and some information probably do not even have references available. Gary King (talk) 18:53, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you created Development history of the Final Fantasy series. To be quite honest, I don't really think it's necessary. If we can just trim out all the excessive details of the re-releases, I believe it can fit nicely into the article. The section would probably have to be renamed "Re-releases" or something similar, as it doesn't mention any development info. The Prince (talk) 19:12, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well if you want to, feel free to do so. It can perhaps be useful to have the article down the road, though, similar to something like Development history of The Elder Scrolls series or something. Gary King (talk) 19:14, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, when I was working on FF7, I thought about splitting the development to a standalone article, so it may come in handy. Are you planning on expanding it? The Prince (talk) 19:23, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the remake information in FF articles can probably be moved to this one. Gary King (talk) 19:26, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If so, then I suggest renaming it something like "Re-releases and remakes of the Final Fantasy series". That'd be a good idea, IMO. The Prince (talk) 19:28, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't want to limit the scope of the article. I think it's great how it is now, just like "Music of the Final Fantasy series", because it encourages readers to add more development information that we might not have yet. Gary King (talk) 19:34, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But do you think it's possible to make an article with both development and re-releases? That would turn out to be a very big article. And it seems a little repetitive to me if we're going to add the same content from the various FF articles.. The Prince (talk) 19:38, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't plan on the article including the same development information from other articles. It should ideally contain the development information and then have the game articles summarize it. If you are going to summarize the FF development re-releases, though, then ultimately the article can be deleted (or simply just redirected) for now. Gary King (talk) 19:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You may be onto something here, but I suggest you leave a note on the FF Wikiproject to see what other people think of it. The Prince (talk) 19:44, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll fish around first and see what more information could be added regarding general series development. I'll also hold off on Final Fantasy (video game) until you're done summarizing, so we don't edit conflict. Gary King (talk) 19:49, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been working on games in Metroid (series) while you've been away, another one of my favorite game series. Perhaps we could collaborate on Super Mario Galaxy at some point as I have the game and think it's pretty good. Gary King (talk) 20:31, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think that's a good idea. Perhaps we can start on it after I've completed my planned copy-edit of all the FF games I've played/completed (FFVII is done of course) to make sure the FF FT is strong when it gets renominated. I don't think it should take too long. BTW, I know very little of the Metroid series (I've only played a Hunters demo which was bundled with the DS). Are you a fan of the FF series? The Prince (talk) 20:45, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of photos from FFVII

[edit]

I don't mind so much the removal of the Columbine controversy. But I don't see a why you saw a problem with the photos of the Chinese game and the snowboarding game. Well, at least the Chinese game photo should stay, I say. Belasted (talk) 01:48, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't remove the snowboarding game, and the reason for removing the Famicom FF7 image is that the game has its own article and the image is already there. Besides, after I removed the Columbine info, the reviews box would crash with the image. The Prince (talk) 01:53, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for keeping it. I wrote that it is one of the most influential video games of all time, which, as you no doubt know, it really is. I think that's supported by the article so I'm gonna re-add it.–FunkyVoltron talk 15:36, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really eager in getting it up to snuff with the current FAC criteria. The Prince (talk) 22:01, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it took a lot less time than I thought; all the issues should have been taken care of. And sure, I'll look at FFX again. My main issue is referencing, particularly in game play, but I'll write out a more detailed list on the FAR page. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 22:16, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Final Fantasy VII (3)

[edit]

I removed it based on WP:SYN. There are no sources provided that indicates that Final Fantasy VII is the "the highest-selling Final Fantasy title" and that Gran Turismo is only PlayStation game that has shipped more copies than Final Fantasy VII.
I was unaware that it was also in the lead. --Silver Edge (talk) 16:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of best-selling video games was the source for Gran Turismo being the only PlayStation game that has shipped more copies than FF VII, so I assumed the "highest-selling Final Fantasy title" statement was also using that article as a source. My bad. --Silver Edge (talk) 17:29, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I certainly appreciate the extra pair of eyes. I'm a bit on the fence for FA with this one. I at least want to push it towards A-class, but I think the development section is too weak for FAC.

[edit]

No, I've never heard of them. I tried to look them up when Klokos was adding stuff about them to the MusicofFF page, but as far as I can see, they're a group of guys who've made some fan albums, and are trying to go professional. They haven't made it yet, though- although they act like it's a done deal, Square Enix has just told them that their application will be processed by February, and BBC/CNN said the same about January- no promises about them getting hired to do anything. As far as I can tell, they have no notability whatsoever. --PresN 16:33, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Final Fantasy (video game)

[edit]

I did a bit of copyediting; it needs some work. Good job on it so far, though. If we ever hope to bring the topic to featured status again, Final Fantasy II should probably be improved first. I'll get on that soon; I've been finishing up a few articles over the past few weeks so have been a bit preoccupied. Nice job on the FAR, too; I would have pitched in more, but alas after going through the article, I don't think I knew about it content-wise to be of much help. Gary King (talk) 22:38, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've continued working on the article. Regarding Final Fantasy II, do you think we should just ask that the article be reassessed to B-class? It might be a good idea, because when we work on it, we can renominate it for GAN; it's a good reconfirmation that the article really is deserving of its GA-class again. With both of us, I'm sure it won't take long; the FA articles will be harder to maintain. Gary King (talk) 20:38, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Plot is a tad long; it's about 700 words, and ideally it'd be around 500 words or so. I'll get the reviewer to reassess the article. Gary King (talk) 00:17, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep Gary King (talk) 00:56, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have underlined the subjects, and left the predicates in plain text. If each of the three lines above contain the main constituents of a sentence, then how can they possibly not be sentences? —LOL T/C 21:45, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought if they were so short, then a period was not necessary. In FACs I have seen editors point this out as an issue. But if you say that this is right, then I believe you. I'm not very good with grammar and such. The Prince (talk) 21:51, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, cool... all I ask of you now is to please be more careful when you draw conclusions in a field with which you are not familiar. You can also read the Wikipedia articles sentence (linguistics), subject (grammar), and predicate (grammar), which, I'd say, are fairly short and may help you understand the issue more clearly. Some sentences can be very short, such as "It's cool." Thanks for your time. —LOL T/C 22:07, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image resizing

[edit]

Just to let you know when you upload a smaller version of the same image you can tag it with Template:Non-free reduced - in the form {{non-free reduced|~~~~~}} - and the previous, larger versions will be deleted after seven days. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 19:33, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image resizing again

[edit]

I've commented on your post regarding image sizes at WT:VG. I don't usually follow those posts with user talk pokes, but I think resizing already low res images such as File:Ds-cover.jpg and File:Grim_Grimoire_Boxart.jpg is an unproductive exercise. I actually think the downsize of File:Secret of Mana Box.jpg by approximately a quarter, and the loss of tag-line legibility and detailing is of detriment to the article. - hahnchen 00:18, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've read your post and I disagree with it I'm afraid. I'm not breaking any rules, so I'm going to continue doing this. The Prince (talk) 00:20, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Any particular reasons? There's nothing wrong with downsizing overtly high res images, it's just that some of the ones you're targeting, aren't. The two examples I posted had the same exercise applied to them by User:Project FMF in 2008, it's a bit of a waste doing it again to hit the moving target infobox width. - hahnchen 00:27, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen a good argument from your part for downsizing images. As you probably know, people never choose an image size in the infobox higher than 256px, so IMO this is the most appropriate size. I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of this. The Prince (talk) 00:31, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Using infobox width to define your maximum image width is not a good idea. For one, width and resolution are different things. The resolution will depend on aspect ratio, the original image, and an analysis of the original's complexity. It's why you can use a lower res image for Smell the Glove, then for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Image resolutions are not one size fits all. If you go into the comments at WT:VG, they're all there. - hahnchen 00:40, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. If you can't provide a guideline saying specifically this, I'm not going to follow your example. And please stop stalking me. Thanks. The Prince (talk) 00:43, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's no guideline specifying infobox width as the ultimate arbiter of suitable resolution either. That width /= resolution is pretty clear. Sure - it can be a rule of thumb, but it requires some judgment too. By no means stop reducing image sizes, just apply an extra layer of discernment when choosing targets. If you consider this well meaning prod stalking, then you have your wikiparanoia meter a bit too sensitive. - hahnchen 00:58, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the Flickr image has "All rights reserved", than a username similarity won't cut it. Ask the user to send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org which says that he/she is the copyright holder to Ktanioka.jpg, that they release it per (license here), and that they fully understand the ramifications that people can freely use it under the license terms for any purpose. Tell them to have the URL to the file somewhere in the email and ask for a ping once it's been sent. Welcome back

[edit]

Just wanted to leave a quick note to let you know that a matter you were involved with 8 months ago has been concluded in your favor. I ran into this report from October '08 that you had filed with AN/I and when I noticed you'd retired it saddened me to see that you wouldn't get to see your "comeuppance." Pretty trivial really, but anyway here is the most recent summary report. Thanks for the help you indirectly provided. -Thibbs (talk) 15:16, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, Thibbs. I have been paying attention to this matter, actually, and I must say that you are doing a brilliant job with your investigation. The way you were able to summon all this information about this vandal is very impressive, I must say. To be honest, that vandal was one of the main reasons why I left Wikipedia, even though I didn't explicitly state it on my user page. But now that I see you've got it under control, I'm more motivated to work on Wikipedia. I only edit more obscure articles now, however, as they don't attract as much vandalism. Keep up the good work, anyway; I hope we can get this vandal out of the way once and for all. The Prince (talk) 16:44, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've very happy to second Thibbs' welcome. :-D
Imagine my surprise when I noticed ArticleAlertbot updated WP:VG/AA with a GAN by you. Needless to say, it is good to see you back and I'm glad you're in better spirits. I must agree that more obscure games are the path of least resistance, and working on them has been better for my wiki-stress. Luckily, classic arcade games fall into that category. If you need any help with articles, you know where to find me. Good to have you back. (Guyinblack25 talk 19:34, 23 June 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks, Guy; I'm glad to be back. :) I have become more interested in video game musicians over the past few months, and luckily these articles get vandalised very rarely. Another thing is that there aren't that many sources available which makes it easier to keep track of all the information (it also means less reading...). I am still available for a good copy-edit on other articles, however, and I'm planning on reviewing some GANs in the future. Cheers! The Prince (talk) 20:26, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

No, I think that will be fine- you'll probably need to add in some information about the two that don't have articles into the Black Mages article ( in the section where it talks about them joining) so that the topic covers all of the members in some way, but if they don't have enough information for an article, then they don't need one. Good luck on getting the other members to GA! --PresN 21:21, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Junya Nakano

[edit]

The article Junya Nakano you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Junya Nakano for things needed to be addressed. MuZemike 20:01, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: images

[edit]

Fair use images for living subjects are generally discouraged... you can see if there are Flickr images or whatnot where you might be able to contact the photographer and get him to release the photo but generally it's not allowed. No article should fail GAN or FAC because of a lack of images; no article is required to have them. --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 00:40, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack sources

[edit]

Prince- I and a few others have been working on List of The Legend of Zelda media. It was originally just a list of games, but was expanded per the discussion at the still ongoing FLC. I was hoping you might know some reliable sources for the soundtracks. I think that's about the only thing keeping the list from gaining support. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:20, 13 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Well it's very hard to find reliable sources for Japanese video game soundtracks. When PresN and I are writing articles on video game music we mostly use RPGFan and Square Enix Music Online, and while they usually pass GAN, they're always frowned upon at FAC. For example, the main reason for Music of the Final Fantasy VII series not passing FAC is because of those two sources. So obviously I would avoid them since you're shooting for FLC. However, here you at least have a complete list of all the Zelda soundtracks, so you know what you need to search for. Sorry for not being of any real help. :( The Prince (talk) 16:24, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About your reversion on Yasuhiro Kawakami: Where does it say that my edit was out of MoS? I would like to take a peak at it. Thanks! --I dream of horses @ 19:11, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not against MoS, and your edit was all in good faith, but I think the level three section headers are unnecessary. If it were to be used, it would need to be consistent with the other game composer articles. Kawakami is an obscure composer who didn't create that many soundtracks, but for the more prolific composers like Yasunori Mitsuda, the ToC would become a lot bigger than it needs to be. Making an exception for Kawakami since he doesn't have a ToC as it is, is a bad idea IMO. Not trying to imply WP:OWN here, but I just really think the current layout works fine as it is. Thanks. The Prince (talk) 19:27, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

The Prince of Darkness

I apologize for my behavior in regard to recent events. I was terrible to you and others.

I understand that I was misguided, acting under the impression that I'm just sticking to Wikipedia policies, having forgotten two of the most important rules here: Assuming good faith in others and not being zealous to the point other goals are lost.

For that I'm sorry. I promise I never do that again. (At least I try... I hope it has not become a habit.)

Again, I apologize.

I also apologize for writing this text in this manner... But on one hand I'm in a hurry and on the other hand I'd feel guilty for eternity if I didn't apologized now.

Best wishes, Fleet Command (talk) 09:51, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yoko vs Yōko

[edit]

Where did you get the info that her name is spelled Yōko? her Japanese website (http://www.midiplex.com/) has it as Yoko, but that's not proof. --PresN 15:07, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most sources write it as Yoko, but as per WP:MOS-JA, a macron should be used in this case. The name Yōko is actually spelled with a macron over the first "o", see Yoko (name). Also, before I moved the page, the {{nihongo}} template had Shimomura Yōko after the Japanese letters. It's kinda the same thing with Kōji Kondō or Kō Ōtani, whose names are most commonly spelled without the macrons. I'm not really for using macrons as it's such a hassle having to copy-paste them from article to article, but since the MOS disagrees with me, I think it's for the best. The Prince (talk) 18:21, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MOS-JA also states that the individual's preferred way of writing their name in the English language is what is to be used over the Hepburn romanization. Do not move Yoko Kanno to "Yōko Kanno" again.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 01:26, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm seeing a ton of similar moves and I am reverting them where I see that the official English name has been given and it is always one spelling and not another. Merely because the name is written with a macron in Hepburn does not mean that the name should be parsed as such on the English Wikipedia. Do not make any more moves like this in the future or you may be blocked for it.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 01:33, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ryulong, cool it. Mr. Prince, I agree with you that most of those articles should be moved, but please contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(Japan-related_articles)#Moves_by_User:The_Prince_of_Darkness before you do so. Jpatokal (talk) 03:10, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, they should not have been moved because there exists an "official trade name if available in English/Latin alphabet" or a "form publicly used on behalf of the person in the English-speaking world" for most of the pages moved. For all but four of the pages that I found that were moved, these two criteria existed and per WP:MOS-JA#Names of modern figures, these should be used before any version of the name that is written in Hepburn romanization.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 03:45, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page versions of article

[edit]

I believe that simply copy-and-pasting articles into your userspace like this and this would be GFDL violations (for not copying the entire history over). If you would like, I or any admin you prefer can move the page into your userspace so you have the entire history (even if it's deleted). Otherwise, someone will have to merge that information when you want to move those articles back (i.e. when the appropriate sources are found). -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:28, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd give it a day or two (maybe pop another reminder on his page?), then if you don't get a response, I'll create it for you, as I think your draft is sufficiently different to not be deleted under G4. A tag has been placed on Kinuyo Yamashita, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Wine Guy~Talk 19:19, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted this as a) a repost of deleted material after AFD b) a probable GFDL violation.

I accept that the recreated version was better sourced and that may overcome the AfD objections, however that's technically a matter for DRV to reconsider. That in itself isn't a reason to deleted - it may be enough to say that anyone objecting to the recreation should go back to AfD. However, comparing the reposted text with the deleted text, I am also concerned that the repost seems to use the deleted material, and there's no GFDL attribution to the original writers. The best thing to do here is to go to DRV and have the original material restored (if that's the consensus).--Scott Mac (Doc) 11:24, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

License tagging for File:Still Walking.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Still Walking.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:06, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Yasuhiro Kawakami has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Nothing notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Template:The Parent Trap film series requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Re: Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures

[edit]

You may not remember me but I remember you. Decades ago I made edits to Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures that I saw as decent information about the game that you repeatedly deleted and called "fancruft", then you threatened to report me to a moderator like a high-and-mighty ass who was "in" with the moderation at the time. Well it always annoyed me how you acted so I'm wiriting this message to you now a decade and a half later to tell you how I think, and regretfully didn't tell you back then. So screw you for deleting those edits, screw you for threatening me and screw you for acting like an ass. - Double Dea (talk) 02:53, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
