You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 20:54, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Deletion Process
[edit]Hi Vic, sorry for the slow response - haven't been on Wiki for the past week. I think that deleting these articles is a good idea - wiki has too many articles about inconsequential LCN characters. This is the article for the Wiki deletion process (complicated as usual): Wikipedia:Guide to deletion
Basically, you add a special tag (I deleted the tag itself) to the top of the article. If the author wants to keep the article, he/she removes the tag. If the tag is still there after a week, the article is yanked.
Good luck and thanks for taking the time to edit the stories in this category!Rogermx (talk) 15:43, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Another Gotti issue
[edit]Thanks.
If you have his book, can you see what he says about where Gotti's parents came from? Davis seemed to think they were Neapolitan immigrants. Capeci's second book took a recording of Gotti saying they were natural born citizens and it was his grandparents who immigrated here.
In the article you gave me, Raab is convinced Gotti's parents were the immigrants, but by the time he wrote Gotti's obituary he had changed his mind. If you have it, can you see if he discusses it? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 02:57, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
I was hoping he would go into more detail or discuss some sort of confirmation someone did, but I guess I can go with this. Thanks. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 01:27, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

South Brooklyn
[edit]I am reverting all of your recent edits to the list of Brooklyn neighborhoods. South Brooklyn is a neighborhood but it does not include any of the other neighborhoods you've put under it. Given your user status, I'm a bit surprised that you would base this on that one source you cited. Has your account password been compromised? Dave Golland (talk) 21:50, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
In my fever yesterday, I may have confused Red Hook with South Brooklyn. But the other thing is that the page isn't a historical list of neighborhoods, but a current list of neighborhoods. Park Slope, Caroll Gardens, etc. are actual neighborhoods now, not part of a larger neighborhood. By the same token, we're not categorizing the neighborhoods by historical town (i.e. New Utrecht, Gravesend, etc.) but by geographical region within the borough. Perhaps we could compromise: Let's make South Brooklyn one of the headings, like "southwest Brooklyn," and explain that its name derives from its location in the original town of Brooklyn, not the modern borough.
I enjoyed "Brooklyn by Name." When I get around to it I'll take another look. Arcadia Publishing has a series on NYC neighborhoods; I bought "Gravesend, Brooklyn" by Joseph Ditta at the New York Historical Society.
Dave Golland (talk) 15:17, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
I would also advocate removing Bococa and restoring the three neighborhoods there to full status. Bococa is a realtor creation and the residents mostly prefer their actual neighborhood names (in my observation). Dave Golland (talk) 15:19, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Gotti indictment
[edit]Do you know if there's any site where I can find the 1990 Gotti indictment? I wanna add who the other two guys he was charged with murdering were. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 20:25, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. As far as I can tell, judging from Rise and Fall, Gotti was first charged with Paul, Bilotti, Deebee (Robert DiBernardo) and Milito, and they added DiBono shortly afterwards.
- And on the subject, do you have any Mafia books? I am to understand Mob Star goes into more detail about Gotti's earlier career, in particular a codefendant to Dellacroce in a loansharking case he may have murdered. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 23:47, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

CSD rationale
[edit]I notice you tagged Anthony Stabile as a G12. The material comes from [1]. That particular page isn't very clear on licensing (or perhaps i missed it), but ]http://wiki.thesopranos.com/Main_Page this page] implies that everything has a license like Wikipedia. I think they've done an abysmal job at clarifying their licensing, but I'm not convinced this is a G12, which requires unequivocal evidence.
I'm sure you will agree there are other problems. Even if the license is OK, the attribution is nonexistent (or I missed it). However, I'm going to decline the speedy on this basis. It has been reported to Copyright problems for the experts to sort out. You are free to pick another CSD category, if you think one applies.--SPhilbrickT 14:46, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
In regard to this page, please note that WP:CSD#R2 does not apply when there is a redirect from the main article space to another page in the main article space. Furthermore, one reason redirects are used is to help people find articles when they misspell the names. We even have a template and a category to deal with that. Consequently, I declined the speedy deletion request. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:03, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

CSD A7 on Joseph Amato
[edit]Hi, just dropping by to let you know that I have challenged your WP:CSD A7 tagging of Joseph Amato. Criteria A7 has very strict criteria for application, specifically the article must not even indicate why the subject is important. Whether or not being the head of a crime organization is sufficient to meet the WP:BIO notability guidelines, it is enough to survive CSD criteria A7. If you still believe the article should be deleted, I suggest you pursue an alternative deletion process WP:DP. Monty845 17:25, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Joseph Massaro nickname controversy from "Anthony Baratta" entry
[edit]I see that you undid an edit on the Anthony Baratta entry from user "Ninelongnights" of Joseph Massaro's corrected nickname. I am 100% certain that his nickname was indeed "Joey Bang Bang."
To understand why you undid the correction, I looked up the information in the references related to the statement that mentions his nickname (reference notes 2 and 3). Although the nickname is mentioned in "Gangbusters: The Destruction of America's Last Great Mafia Dynasty" By Ernest Volkman (note 2) as "Joey Bang" on page 308, it is also mentioned in "Jerry Capeci's Gang Land" By Jerry Capeci (note 3) as "Joey Bang Bang" on pages 133, 142, and 327. I can assure you that the latter source contains the correct nickname, based on first-hand knowledge.
I understand that this message can not be considered a valid source, but either way that the nickname may be mentioned in the Anthony Baratta entry, it will be correct according to one source and incorrect according to the other. I edited the nickname back to "Joey Bang Bang" and I am starting this discussion on the controversy to help you understand why it was edited in the first place, and to avoid any sort of edit war. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.70.60.8 (talk) 06:39, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Mafia templates
[edit]Hi! I wonder if you could take a look at this and maybe share your opinion on how to move forward with the Mafia templates: Template_talk:Mafia#Reworking
I think it would be of great benefit to this subject area if we were to make it easier to overlook by having templates in all articles related to the American and Sicilian Mafia. For example, I just recently happened to come across your very good contribution about the New Jersey faction of the Genovese family. If we could work out a well defined and inclusive template it would be easier to find such articles and to establish a context from any one article. Shoplifter (talk) 21:35, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, I'm on vacation the next few weeks and will be off-wiki for awhile. I just wanted to alert you to this bot request I put up yesterday:
- Hopefully they will run a bot that will add the template to all articles in the Italian-American organized crime category. Shoplifter (talk) 22:55, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Great work on the Lucchese template. I was inspired to make one for the Genovese family: User:Shoplifter/Sandbox_2 It's a bit different to comport with the articles available. I wonder if you could have a look and revise it as necessary. I'm not exactly sure how to classify current and former members (i.e., people who are in prison seems to be regarded as "former" members, but obviously that cannot be the case if the person is still actively involved in the family). Feel free to make any changes you see fit. Shoplifter (talk) 12:11, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Should Casso's cops be included in the Lucchese template? The template is on their page, and given they were convicted it should be safe enough. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 21:55, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
Morello crime family
[edit]When editing the Genovese template I naturally came across the articles related to the Morellos, and there's a great deal of discrepancy between them. For example, Antonio Morello is claimed to be the first boss and the eldest brother of the Morellos in his article and in the article on the Genovese family (although it was said he died of natural causes in the latter and not by gunshot as in the former, I changed it), and so I revised the article on Giuseppe Morello to conform to this. But when I noticed that the family history was way off in between the different articles, I started looking for sources to find out what the consensus really is. In this one of few good sources I found Google books "Antonio Morello" is not mentioned at all or included in the Morelly family tree. It says in the article on Giuseppe that some believe him Antonio to have been cousins and not brothers.
Are you perhaps aware of what the historical consensus is or do you have any other sources which we could use in straightening out the historical record and making these articles conform to one another? Thanks. Shoplifter (talk) 05:00, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- I've straightened out the record to accord with the Critchley source (unfortunately it's not available in full at Google books, but the family tree and some of the text clarifies plenty of issues) in the articles on Giuseppe and Nicholas Morello. Left are the articles on the Morello crime family, Genovese crime family, Ciro Terranova and Ignazio Saietta. Also, there's a few related articles which should be included in the Genovese template, e.g. Charles Ubriaco, Joseph Fanaro and Tommaso "The Ox" Petto. One of the crucial points I haven't found a source for is whether the 107th Street Mob actually was the precursor of the Morello family - I presume this is true, hence the lede to Giuseppe's article. Anyway, I'll let this stuff lie until the AfD on Antonio Morello is sorted. Shoplifter (talk) 08:51, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

- I knew I saw that "we don't have to" comment somewhere!
- Thanks...now just to find some way to cite it. The Biography Channel website seems to put up one full episode on rotation, so that won't do much good. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:55, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- I have seen it before, but given it's not an explicitly sanctioned posting it would probably be a copyvio link.
- And I'm not sure if that info would go in early life or early mob work. I know I've still got to include the J&S social club and the Infante murder, and finish reffing and expanding the '86 and '04 convictions.
- Two other things I'm not sure about, do you think "Grand Finale" and the Robert Perrino murder are relevant to Massino himself? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 01:57, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, and Massino's restaurant legit work. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 02:01, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
One more thing I just noticed when I redid the infobox: where did the old birth place of New Haven come form? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 18:26, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Interesting, got the DOB right but made up the place. Biography Channel puts it in Maspeth, but all the books I've got just say he grew up there.
- I tend to avoid using TruTV as a source because I'm pretty sure it counts as a tertiary source, but what do you think about Bio? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 19:04, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- "Born Jan. 10, 1943, in New York," - close enough? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 21:50, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'd had seen that on the Bio channel page, but I wasn't sure if it counted as a tetriary source, and if that would be a big deal at FAC. Still, seeing that I can probably fall back on it if the LAT isn't enough.
- And KotG mentions three daughters as well, but the preview doesn't have the full page. There's also a Daily Mail article that I had cited before, but it looked like a pretty blatant plagiarism case. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:38, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hadn't realized the name connection. It's probably safe to go with three daughters, though I wish we knew what happened to the middle kid. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 23:28, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- "Born Jan. 10, 1943, in New York," - close enough? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 21:50, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
KG
[edit]I've been looking for a mod to find King Genovese so I could ask them to check if he's a sock of this guy. The MO isn't a perfect match, but they share traits of counterproductive mafia-related edits, video game cruft, and blanking their talk pages, and KG showed up just after Evan got his first block.
Just if you find someone to talk to first.
On an unrelated note, I just hit the NYT paywall limit today. Might hold me back a bit on Massino. Thanks for trying to find his birthplace. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 21:50, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- I was checking a 2011 NYP article in the refs to see if there was a more recent statement on the matter when I noticed this:

[edit]All that's left now is the lead, and then the cleanup will be finished. I ordered a cheap copy of Unfinished Business, the only source without a Google preview, and there's still the Gangland article, but besides that it's almost done.

[edit]While some of your edits n posts are accurate,I have noted you base a hefty percentage of your posts on one outdated and sometimes incorrect source and when someone tries to correct erroneous information or sources you edit their corrections out. Ego has no place in the realm of truth. Please research your edits and posts for veracity before you erase the hard work of others. On the above referenced page your dates, names, means of death, number and names of living and dead members and associates are in many cases incorrect and this can easily be verified by numerous free online resources, however, you continue to automatically edit away all postings to the page simply because the info conflicts with your erroneous information.I wish you would verify before editing.Thank you.Genoeffa (talk) 11:08, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

- The reference you posted on your clean up for Russell BUfalinos appeal from his APalachin conviction is incorrect. You replaced my reference with a cite for an appeal from an I.N.S. inquiry board's decision, not the Apalachin appeal. The original reference from Justia is correct. Also, the onewal.com site which you have yourself used as a reference states in it's Scranton Bosses section that Joseph Barbara was a member of the Buffalo family there are also archived F.B.I. wiretaps where Stefano Maggadino nanes BArbara as a member of the Buffalo family. The Informer Journal April, 2011 issue, which I habe cited in my revision, also lists Barbara as a member of the Buffalo family. Informer Journal is a reference qualify monthly publication written by Genealogy researchers who have an interest in Organized crime history. The cited issue is abailable on scribd.com for 5 dollars for the printable issue or you can find snippets online for free. I find that much of Capeci's material on current events is mostly accurate but on historical issues he sometimes repeats tje same old inaccuracies that unfortunately sometimes take a life of their own. In reference to John Sciandra, he was not murdered. He died of a heart attack in 1949; also listed on the same issue of informer journal I cited as well as tje onewal.com site both you and I cited. I plan on working on tje page again this evening. Be glad to hear your opinion. Take care. Genoeffa (talk) 00:31, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I saw KG's latest sock made an article for him, but frankly it looked lacking enough that it might as well have been completely rewritten.
I'd been looking into him a little just to verify he existed for the succession box on Joey Massino. He was apparently an underboss and a Pizza Connection defendant, so he could be notable.
Couple online refs:
- NYP release from jail. (and BOP record)
- NYT
- Time magazine (date almost certainly wrong)
Also some references in Donnie Brasco: Unfinished Business, but I haven't read through the entire thing. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:30, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

References for The Tanglewood Boys
[edit]I'm no expert but WP:SFN appears to be for articles wholly sourced from books, where this article has the vast majority of its references to web pages. So wouldn't it make sense to add the book title to the one named reference it refers to? Like I said I'm no expert. -- Patchy1 00:31, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Frank Cali - Gambino boss?
[edit]Not sure if you heard this, but this site said that Cali got promoted.
It's been repeated in the Daily Beast and in USA Today-except-it-isn't. I'm not sure if it's worth a post. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 20:36, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure if that is true. The articles say the Gambino family has 700+ mobsters, and is the strongest family in the coutry. This article "America’s most powerful Mafia family active in unions: indictment" the Genovese as #1 family. Capeci didnt put a story out about Cali as New boss. He had one for Crea, and last week about Mancuso and DiFiore. Might have to wait for more news sites like times, daily news to report that Cali is boss.--Vic49 (talk) 22:46, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

"American Mafia (Cosa Nostra)"
[edit]I realize I put it in the Massino article's lead, but it just looks awkward. I only ever used the term "Cosa Nostra" once in the rest of that article anyway.
Looking at the work you've done on Tommy Lucchese and Steven Crea, I think I might've inadvertently set a standard for Mafia articles, and I'm not sure if it's a good one. Your opinion? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 19:53, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- I only linked there because the Sicilian Mafia article has more info on both names.
- And I guess Cosa Nostra has a place as the "official" name of the Mafia - it's just I thought the wording was awkward, but I can't think of anything better. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 21:40, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that just makes it longer. The more I think about it "Mafia (Cosa Nostra)" sounds better. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:01, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

The three crime families of Hamilton
[edit]Hi there! I stumbled upon your user page and noticed the info you had on the three crime families of Hamilton. What are your intentions for that info? Would you make individual pages for each of the families (the Musitano crime family already has a page), or create a collective page of the three families and name it something like "The three crime families of Hamilton", or maybe you're still trying to find more info? Buffalo family
[edit]Hey there. I’ve noticed you added some info to your user page about the Buffalo crime family and Hamilton families such as pertaining to the Luppino crime family. There’s been a user adding recent info to the Buffalo page, but from blogs and possibly some unreliable sources. Is aboutthemafia and cosanostranews really reliable sources? - @Diannaa:
I rewrote the the information. Please review.
- In December 2004, Bergen County Prosecutor arrested dozens of mobsters including Joseph "The Eagle" Gatto for operating illegal sports betting with ties to offshore wire rooms in Costa Rica.[1] The indictment identified Joseph "The Eagle" Gatto as a soldier in the Genovese family, who was in control of father Louis "Streaky" Gatto's old number rackets.[1] According to the New Jersey authorities the Genovese crime family operates in New Jersey with three captains.[1] The three capo's identified were Angelo M. Prisco a capo who controlled Jersey City and Bayonne waterfront, Ludwig "Ninny" Bruschi a capo who controlled rackets in Northern New Jersey and Silvio Devita the capo who controlled the family's rackets in the Newark area.[1]
Thank you --Vic49 (talk) 19:54, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- The final sentence is identical to what I already removed once.— Diannaa (talk) 19:59, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Diannaa:
I will replace the last sentence with the following.
- Authorities identified the three captains who were operating from Northern and Central Jersey as Angelo M. Prisco, Ludwig Bruschi and Silvio Devita. It was also stated by New Jersey authorities that the Genovese family was the most powerful and most active Mafia family in the State.

[edit]For the DeCavalcante family page, the street boss was not Guarraci, but Joe “Red” or “Milk” Merlo, his position was confirmed by Giovanni Rocco the undercover agent and by Douglas Schofield the co-author, and the description of Milk is the one of Merlo.
